  • NSCDC arrests 18 illegal miners in Niger

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger command, on Tuesday announced the arrest of 18 illegal miners in Bukuchi village of Bosso Local Government Area.

    Mr Philip Ayuba, Commandant of the Corps in the state, made this known in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna.

    Ayuba said that the suspects would soon be charged to court to serve as a lesson for others engaged in illegal mining activities.

    He explained that already the command had developed comprehensive security strategies to confront the activities of illegal miners and other criminal activities in the state.

    He said that plain security personnel had since being deployed to flash points of illegal mining and other criminal activities for their arrest and prosecution.

    Ayuba solicited for the support of residents in providing useful information that would assist the security agencies to confront any form of security threats in the state.

    The commandant said that such vital information would enable the command to check criminal and promote peaceful coexistence among the residents.

    NSCDC arrests 12 vandals in Niger

    Twelve vandals of power and water board cables have been arrested by the Niger State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

    The NSCDC State Commandant, Philip Ayuba while speaking to newsmen in Minna said the suspects were arrested in June.

    He stated that the vandalization done by the suspects has affected water and power supply in the State.

    According to him “we arrested twelve suspects who are involved in various crimes including theft, vandalization of power and water board cables within Minna and metropolis.

    “Also, some of them who are involved in motorcycle theft are Fulanis, Bello Usman and Umoru Halilu from Tegina. They were apprehended, taken to court and have been given three year jail term each without option of bail.”

    Ayuba then said three other suspects, out of which two are minors, were involved in the vandalization of fibre optic, water pipes and power cables.

    “We are still investigating their case. But two others (minors) who are specialized in water board cable, Bashir Sani (17years) and Aliyu Yusuf (16 years) both of Universal Basic Education school in Minna will be arraigned in court.”

    He then called on the people to be vigilant of the activity going on in their environment.
