Uriel Oputa slams clout chasers for exploiting Phyna’s family tragedy

Reality TV star Uriel Oputa has expressed outrage over Nigerians exploiting the death of Ruth Otabor, sister of fellow BBNaija winner Phyna, for online content and clout.

She condemned the trend on Instagram, attributing it to a lack of creativity among content creators who prioritise trending topics over originality.

According to Uriel, many are willing to disrespect others’ privacy and exploit their pain for personal gains.

She urged Nigerians to respect Phyna’s privacy during this difficult time and allow her to mourn her sister in peace.

Uriel also vowed to publicly call out anyone exploiting Phyna’s situation for clout, stresing that Phyna has legal support and doesn’t need public interference.

According to Uriel, this behavior is not only insensitive but also reflects a deeper issue within the Nigerian content creation space.

She described the actions of these individuals as “disgraceful” and “absolute circus”.

She wrote: “Nigerians really don’t know when to stop. This is why I always say that most Nigerian content creators, or Nigerians in general, lack creativity. That’s why there are a billion people doing the same thing, creating the same type of content, because nobody wants to think differently or innovate. Small-mindedness is everywhere.

“To make matters worse, some people use someone else’s pain as content. Let me be clear: if I see anyone using Phyna’s sister or Phyna’s name to chase clout or create content, I will call you out publicly without shame. I will post it, and I will stand by it.

“Let her mourn her sister in peace. Let her handle whatever she needs to handle privately with her family and the company. Not everything is a joke until it happens to you.

“This behaviour is disgraceful. Absolutely disgraceful. Leave her alone. She has lawyers. Somebody’s life is not Nollywood. You people deserve Nigeria. You deserve Nigeria so badly. Absolute circus. Clowns.

“Stop Blaming People ….Leave her alone let her mourn in peace. She has lawyers. Somebody’s life is not NOLLYWOOD. I no call names oo if u take this as a direct hit then. Guilty as charged”.

Nwabufo defends Phyna amid rumours of N1bn demand from Dangote over sister’s accident

Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) ambassador Michael Nwabufo has debunked rumours surrounding Phyna’s sister’s case about an alleged one billion naira demand from Dangote.

Nwabufo, popularly known as Mike Premium, revealed this on Wednesday via his Insta story, alongside screenshots of his conversation with Phyna.

“On no occasion did we talk about ₦1 billion as a demand! False narrative. I was the one handling this case underground since the news broke out, without social media. This was my direct appeal to Phyna and the legal counsel I provided to support her in seeking justice for her sister because she really didn’t know how to go about it.

“The first and most urgent demand was that her sister be flown abroad for emergency medical treatment, because it was clear from the beginning that her condition required advanced care that wasn’t available locally. But instead of receiving compassion and immediate action, she was met with delays, excuses and now… tragedy,” he wrote.

He further stressed that the death of Phyna’s sister, Ruth, was due to negligence, and ‘not natural’.

“Let it be known: This was not a natural death. Her life was forcefully taken not by fate, but by human negligence and disregard. This case? Phyna will get justice.

Mark my words: No one born of a woman can stop it. Not in this country. Not anywhere,” he said.

The demand statement was titled, ‘Demand for compensation and medical intervention for victims of the Dangote cement truck accident’.

It encapsulated six items covering medical expenses and proper care, advanced prosthetics, and rehabilitation therapy.

He further threatened to sue bloggers and online platforms who reported the information if they don’t provide clear evidence of such a claim.

“To all blogs and online platforms pushing lies: any blog or page posting that Phyna demanded ₦1 billion if you don’t present credible evidence, I will personally make sure you spend some of your clickbait earnings in court.

“You people are trying to push a young woman into depression, after everything she went through fighting to save her own blood sister, a sister whose school fees she’s been paying for years!” he noted.

Phyna breaks silence on VeryDarkMan controversy amid sister’s health

Reality TV star Phyna has broken her silence on the controversy involving social media personality VeryDarkMan, opening up about the personal struggles she has faced amid the drama.

In a video, Phyna revealed that she had confided in VeryDarkMan about her sister’s health challenges, expecting confidentiality and support.

However, she alleged that he betrayed her trust by posting a video without her consent, disclosing sensitive details about her sister’s condition and her private life.

Expressing her disappointment, Phyna explained that her sister, a breastfeeding mother, is in critical condition after being hit by a Dangote truck driver.

She said her intention was never to make the matter public, fearing judgment and distraction from the urgent need for medical care.

Phyna noted that she has been working with individuals and organisations to secure proper treatment for her sister but believes VeryDarkMan’s actions have complicated the process.

She said, “Phyna speaks on VeryDarkMan’s, “Yes, you can’t say come online. You talk and I plead it with you. Like a sister having two children? Yes.

“The thing is, I’m not trying to say children are blessings to family, right? But there are some personal family things that we didn’t want to put out there.

“Like, she’s not married, you get. She just got pregnant. See, as the child is there, we’re happy about the kids.

“But I didn’t feel we needed that part out there. She’s a graduate that her life just got short. Like, she was able to graduate and she still went to school even with that.

“She still went to school. So, I wanted us to, because you know how Nigerians can be, they say, oh, she’s gonna be like, oh, eh, you mean she has kids, she’s not married. I just didn’t want those type of, let’s focus on, look at what happened though, see what happened though.

“I told him, what I told him was that day when I, when he said I was crying, yes, I was crying. I was incontrollable that day. I was not myself.

“I was, I was really not myself. He didn’t like when he said I was crying. I was, oh God.

“I was really, really, really crying. I told him, just, I just need to open up to him so he will understand my pain and understand where we are coming from. I told him, my sister has kids.

“She’s breastfeeding. She’s, yes, she’s a breastfeeding mother. Now that he has said it out, let’s, let’s call it spinning speed.

“She has a baby at hand. She has eight months, and we have eight months at hand that she’s breastfeeding and all of this is up. Now, baby has automatically stopped breastfeeding.

“I purposely didn’t bring it up because we didn’t want distraction and we know how Nigerians can be. I didn’t need to say they were changing the, you know, they’ll just change the topic. It’s a personal thing. We love the kids. I love the children. We love them.

“They are ours, but that’s not our motive here. I told him, I opened up. Almost everything he said, the things I was like, oh, bro, see, oh, bro, see, oh, bro, see, oh.

“All my movement, he was aware. He knows. I can’t even sleep, like, throughout today, I’ve just been, I just look like a mad person.

“I don’t know what to do, like, because everything wan cut out of my head. And they write to the Dangote, because information, whereupon they get, and I said, Dangote, they leave, the man, they didn’t put you for hospital, they will abandon you. That’s what it’s looking like, because the agreement was to take my sister out.

“But now you are saying that they are bringing professional from another hospital, bringing professional from another hospital, bringing professional, I’m not saying they cut them from another hospital to attend to her, but our plan was different. It’s because there’s no one moved from there at all. And there’s somebody that I confided in, waiting for him, I was eagerly waiting for his reply or call back, nothing.

“And suddenly I’m seeing video. No, the reason I did not leave voice notes is because he has not picked my call. And why is because anything, any information I give him at that point, he might likely go and post it. Why I did that was referring to when he recorded my call without telling me. So I was scared. I needed him to pick. I get it.

“So I was scared to write because I would, I might write him and he will not reply and I’ll be seeing what I wrote online. Do you get? I was just, I just wanted him to pick. So if I’m starting my conversation, I’ll say, bro, I didn’t want to write anything because I didn’t want him to screenshot it.

“And even that call, when you record, when you start recording somebody’s call, the person is supposed to know. I didn’t hear because I was crying. So I didn’t hear.

“So my plan was if he picks and I hear that he’s about to record, I’ll tell him, bro, see oh, he never get ahead though. This part, no more, never put him online though. That was like, I kept on calling him consistently, giving him updates.

“I sit there, I don’t come out, I don’t reach out, call me back. I was calling direct, calling on WhatsApp. For real, like I just, I just feel, I just feel everybody, everything just want to be against me.

“At this point, like if I woke up, I did it. I can’t leave him alone. Yeah, the way, I just hear from you now, you talk, say even the Dangote people talk to her.

“Yes, a girl came, she was in the room. Two girls, I mean, they were in the room. They were in the room, which were the people they sent.

“That is the girl that reached out to me directly. She came, she met me. She was telling me from outside the car, say, in the car, before I even went inside.

“She was telling me that, you know, please, they will talk to you. Just don’t involve very dark man. They will talk to you.

“They will… When I reached, I tell her, I said, I must see what she will tell me or say I cannot involve her. She was like, no now, for what? This time, will they go? I was happy. So, the guy kept on persisting.

“He gave her reasons for her ideas that we agreed. You’re for no accepture. See, I’m for no accepture, but I want you to understand that I was not able to get them because I cried out.

“This lady, because she knew me personally and she knew somebody there, she was the one who went to the office, spoke to them and said, you must answer this girl. It was from her phone. I was even talking to the men when she was at that apartment. She was the one who pleaded directly to him. Pleaded to me that now she gets them. Like, she went there. It wasn’t even because of my shouting. I mean, they replied my DM. I mean, because of nothing.

“That girl went there. She was the one that said she knows one person. This man is in position. So, it was her phone. Through her phone, we spoke. In the apartment, very dark one was.

“We spoke. We arranged the meeting. He knew everything. The only thing he didn’t know was when he didn’t take the calls.

“I didn’t sideline him. Now, the same thing we talk for phone. Because, okay, now, let’s put it this way. If none of that thing we talk for phone, or if they say they really sidelined am, you’re not going to tell me just be careful.

“Check the minutes. It was just five minutes after that call, he sent that message. That’d be four minutes.

“Check the timing now. It was just four minutes, five minutes. Why go there? Why? Why? They wake up for money go tweet about.

“Shame, even, they catch me now because a lot of people don’t talk to me. I say, come on. I’m against you.

“I’m against you. Now they spit on my head, they say I betray. I’m how? I carried you along, told you everything.

“Honestly. I know, like, it seems disorganized, me, taking- Actually, they… We did pray because yesterday she woke up.

“She may never wake for days. She woke up yesterday She woke up yesterday before yesterday the container try to commence feeding because she cannot eat through her mouth is through her neck The food that they give that not digest this evening that they say that you remove and say not digest and they need to like stop feeding Honestly, I know I don’t suppose they react like this but I just can’t help it. I just feel a lot is happening at the same time in my head like this is somebody I trust so much.

“This is somebody I’ve been waiting for his reply. I just can’t wait for him to call me back because I’m busy. like.

“Come online they see just the same brand new story. No. No. And I immediately I said I message him reply.

“I don’t know but I just felt we can do they can do better with her treatment it can be faster because I can never start explaining what has really gone wrong in my sister’s body right now I cannot really start explaining it and I thought that was the fight I was fighting for, her pelvis is like so that is my problem what you want me Nigerians do for you they should just join yes I get craze for head understandable but now this is about a young girl that her life has been cut short this is about a mother and this is about a mother breastfeeding like is a lot I know like we’re not getting feedback from them anymore our baby our one would be five years old the other one is the eighth month

“Most times when I feel when people are like we said like all the DMs, comment section are saying people are saying you I’m chasing clouts up like if I want to just clouts I know how to this is nothing you bring the money back on the account. I am feeling it I am feeling I’m not feeling pains of a sister I feel I’m feeling pains of a mother because I know I just know that I’m not a bad person I’m not that bad as you think and I will not behave the way this guy describes me today didn’t really break me

“This way I did talk so not be only me did they’ll not be only me Oh Christy O follow me girl we met three people in the room before those eyes people of course I don’t know if they are willing to like be like oh no now the conversation happen now but at least one for one no Christy can say happen because we’re all there in the room we’re there I know but if I won’t lie I know I mean not even in this critical state of it I don’t know say very dark man they important before me go meet them like I still drive upon say dem jam my bumper.”

In a live video on Thursday via Instagram, Phyna expressed shock at the allegation, insisting that she had been in constant touch with VDM.

“I don’t understand the betrayal talk because I’ve been calling and messaging him every day, giving him updates. He didn’t answer, he didn’t pick my calls. Yet I’m seeing this video. The problem at hand is not distraction; it is how I’m going to get justice for my sister,” she said.

Phyna explained that she informed VDM about her movements and was willing to share their chat history to prove she tagged him along.

The BBNaija star maintained that she respected VDM, but wished he had reached out to her directly instead of going public.

“I personally like VeryDarkMan, but should I kill myself? Please, I beg bro. You fore call me as you see say as you come face at the other’s guard you but if you check I still message you bro. Sir, I still they message you. You know they reply. You didn’t reply. Let’s not do it.

“Please. Thank you. If I offend you I’m really sorry from the bottom of my heart. I need you in this case. You know this I need you but if this is how you think you want to think maybe to shake me or I don’t know, but in as much as it pain me I stand,” Phyna said.

Phyna shares medical situation of injured sister

Reality star and actress Phyna has given an update on her sister, Ruth Otabor’s health status after being severely injured in a truck accident near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.

The incident, which occurred on August 13, 2025, left Ruth with significant injuries, including the amputation of one leg.

According to Phyna, the Dangote Group had initially agreed to support Ruth’s treatment, including flying her abroad for further care.

However, Phyna claims that the company later requested a medical report from the hospital stating that they cannot handle Ruth’s condition, which she finds unreasonable.

Phyna has expressed frustration and disappointment with the situation, emphasising her sister’s urgent need for medical attention abroad.

She said in a live Instagram video, “Medical reports he said to me received and I said these are all the medical reports and if you give it to your doctors too you realize she doesn’t have much time and we need to act fast what’s the next move right now he replied me and said I agree with you we would engage the medical team and revert and I said which medical team the ones in lagoon he said yes and then insurance That wants to inform the medical team in that lab. The same medical team that gave me this one. That gave me this one. And insurance. I was surprised like insurance.

“I mean… Like, I don’t know, but I said, okay, cool. I said, Cool. Engaging the doctors already on a treatment plan for Ruth. We would be guided by the medical option of what is best for Ruth at all times. Now, this one vexes me. Do you know why this vexed me? Because, hello, we had an agreement that we are only bringing my sister to Lagos. So they will be stabilising her while we prepare to travel.

“That was our agreement. I already asked the hospital’s MD if my sister can be moved. He said yes. That should be what you should be asking. Like I said, she cannot be treated in Nigeria. So that’s the question you all should be asking. He now replied, he said, Please, can we have the medical report from Lagoon that says they cannot handle ruth in their facility? Please, see, I don’t want parao. Because I told him, I’m like, I should tell the hospital to write me a medical report that states they cannot handle my sister. Now, see the hospital, they are good.

“I feel they can handle it, sir, we need to fly my sister out. And I made an instance that, sir, if you have a child, and your child is in the best hospital in Nigeria, and you still decide to fly your child, you don’t tell the hospital to write that they cannot handle your sister. Why are you even stressing me? What the fuck? If Dangote’s child is sick, do they wait for medical reports to tell them to treat the girl in Nigeria? My sister’s lungs have fluid.

“Her reproductive organ is crushed. Her bladder is busted. We are praying every day for her to get to the next day. And you’re trying to outsmart me. You’re trying to play me. You’re trying to make me feel like I’m not smart or that I don’t know what I’m saying.

“Burst my head, finish. After this man said that last thing, he did not reply to my message again. This was where he said, Please, I should get a medical report from Lagoon that says they cannot handle her. After we already had an agreement that my sister was just going to be in Lagoon, seal, all documents to fly her are ready. And now, this one will never even talk of other demands that will follow.

“This one, I just make her focus on her medical first. That’s what I’m trying to make clear. I cannot use my sister’s life to gamble. Now, I think I will share my demands with you….”
