  • Teacher charged with defiling minor in classroom

    A 26-year-old teacher, Muhammad Suleiman, who allegedly defiled a three-year-old girl, on Thursday appeared before a Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    Suleiman, who lives at Rimin Gata Quarters, Kano, is facing a count charge, but he pleaded not guilty.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale, said that the teacher lured the toddler into an isolated classroom at noon on April 13 and had sexual intercourse with her.

    According to Lale, the school is situated within the quarters.

    The prosecutor told the court that the child’s father reported the case at the Rijiyar Zaki Police Division, Kano, on April 14.

    “The accused had sexual intercourse with her, which caused her harm,” he said, noting that the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code.

    Chief Magistrate Muhammad Jibril ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody.

    Jibril adjourned the case until May 24 for mention.

  • Man in court for intimidating wife

    A 35-year-old man, Hamza Nuhu, was on Tuesday arraigned at a Kano Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly beating up and intimidating his wife, Fatima Hassan.

    Nuhu, who resides at Bachirawa Quarters Kano, is facing a two-count charge of criminal force and intimidation.

    The accused, however, denied the allegations leveled against him.

    The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 and two reliable sureties.

    Jibril ordered that one of the sureties must be the Ward Head of Bachirawa Quarters Kano, while the second surety must be a blood relation and adjourned the case until May 24 for hearing.

    Earlier, the Prosecuting Counsel, Insp. Pogu Lale, had informed the court that Fatima Hassan, of the same address, lodged a letter of complaint at Metro Area Police Command Kano, endorsed by a Magistrate Court on March 30.

    He said that about one month ago, the accused who is the husband to the complainant beat her up without any reason and threatened to deal with her by all means till he sees her end.

    The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 265 and 397 of the penal code respectively.

  • Court remands three men over alleged rape of 30-year-old woman

    A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered the remand of three men – Marcus Sani, Iliya Garba and Halilu Musa, in prison for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman.

    The defendants, Sani, 30, Garba, 40, and Musa, 35, who reside at Fammar Village, Kibiya Local Government Area of Kano State, are facing a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, abetment and rape.

    The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, ordered that the defendants should be remanded in prison until the next adjourned date.

    Jibril adjourned the matter until April 25 for mention.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale, had told the court that one Yusuf Musa of Fassi Village in Kibiya Local Government Area of Kano reported the matter at Kibiya Police Division on March 11.

    Lale said that on March 8, at about 1:30 p.m, the defendants conspired among themselves, attacked the complainant’s 30-year-old sister and forcefully had unlawful sexual intercourse with her while she was coming from an errand.

    He said that as a result of the rape the victim became pregnant. The defendants, however, denied committing the offences.

    According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 97, 83, and 283 of the Penal Code.

    Two brothers arraigned for strangling father to death in Kano

     Two biological brothers – Auwal Adamu, 26, and Rabiu Adamu, 27, were yesterday arraigned before Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly strangling their 55-year-old Father to death.
    The defendants, who hailed from Sumaila Local Government Area Kano, are facing a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, contrary to section 97 and 221 of the penal code respectively.
     
    The prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale, told the court that a good Samaritan reported the case of culpable homicide to Sumaila police Division, on September 30.
     
    Lale said on Sept. 24, at about 6 p.m the defendants criminally conspired with their six other brothers now at large and strangled their biological Father, one Adamu Gamji, 55, to death.
     
    He alleged that the defendants suspected their Father to be responsible for the death of three members of their family and also the sickness of their brother one Sale Adamu.
     
    When the charges were read to the defendants, they pleaded not guilty.
     
    The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, ordered the remand of the defendants in prison custody and adjourned the case until Nov.16 for a mention.

    Court remands man for defiling a boy

    A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday directed the remand of a 46 year-old man Kabiru Usman, for allegedly defiling a 12 year-old boy.

    Usman, who lives at Dawakin Dakata Quarters, Kano, is being tried on a one-count charge of unnatural offence.

    Chief Magistrate Muhammad Jibril directed the remand of the accused person and adjourned the matter until Sept. 26, for mention.

    Earlier, Public Prosecutor Pogu Lale had told the court that one Yusuf Suleiman of the same address reported the matter at Zango Police Division on Aug.15.

    He told the court that on the same date, Usman deceived and lured the complainant’s 12-year-old son into his house situated at Dawakin Dakata Quarters and had canal knowledge of the boy.

    When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty.

    The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 284 of the Penal code.

    Court arraigns man for homosexuality

    A 28-year-old man, Naziru Isa, was on Friday dragged by the Police before a Kano Magistrate Court for allegedly defiling a four-year-old boy.

    Isa, who resides at Dandago Quarters Kano, was charged to court for defilement.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale, told the court that one Muhammad Ayuba reported the matter at Gwale police Division on Aug. 13.

    Lale said the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 12 at his resident.

    He said the defendant lured the complainant’s son to his room and had canal knowledge of him.

    “The defendant later gave him (the boy) groundnut and asked him not to tell anyone. The boy, however, told his father,” he said.

    The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 284 of the Criminal code of Kano State.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, ordered that the remand of the defendant in prison custody pending his bail application.

    Jibril adjourned the matter until Oct. 5 for mention.

    Vendor remanded for raping minor

    A 30-year-old water vendor, Musbahu Abdulaziz, was on Wednesday remanded by a Kano Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly raping a minor.

    Abdulaziz was arraigned on a count of rape.

    The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, ordered the remand of the accused in prison and adjourned the case to Sept. 26, for mention.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale, told the court that one Asiya Musa, of Diso Quarters Kano, reported the case at Gwale Police Division Kano, on Aug 16.

    “On Aug.11, at about 8.30p.m., the accused deceived and lured the complainant nine-year-old niece into a house situated at Diso Quarters Kano and forcefully had unlawful sexual intercourse with her,’’ he said.

    According to him, the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code.

    The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    Court remands businessman for defiling neighbour’s 10-year-old boy

    A Kano Magistrates’ Court on Friday, ordered the remand of 27-year-old businessman, Usman Mohammed, in prison custody for allegedly defiling his neigbour’s  10-year-old boy.

    The accused, who resides at Unguwa Uku Quarters Kano, is facing one-count charge of defilement.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale, told the court that one Musa Abubakar of the same address reported the case at Unguwa Uku Police Division Kano, on July 15.

    He said that on the said date at about 4 pm, the accused deceived and lured the complainant’s 10-year-old son into his room and had canal knowledge of the boy without his consent.

    The prosecutor said that the offence contravened section 284 of the penal code.

    The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody and adjourned the case till Aug. 24, for mention.
