    Ondo CP orders autopsy on late police Inspector

    Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has ordered an autopsy to be conducted on late Inspector Yusuf Suleiman Blessing following an outcry by the family.

    The family had alleged foul play in his death when his body was brought home for burial.

    They alleged that they were told that Yusuf drowned in a river but that his body was discovered to have been burnt when they opened the coffin.

    Police spokesman, Funmilayo Odunlami, in a statement, said Yusuf’s body was discovered two days after he went missing.

    Odunlami said there were no traces of injury or marks of violence except a swollen part of his head.

    She said the family rejected the conduct of the autopsy and demanded his body be released for burial.

    “Preliminary investigation revealed that on the 27th of January 2025, towards evening time, no one could give an account of the presence of the late inspector in the station. Immediately the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) directed that a search party should trace his whereabouts, as he was last seen wearing a blue vest and green tracksuit trousers.

    “Two days later the officer in charge of the Police Marine informed the DPO of the discovery of a corpse lying face down in a river. On close observation, it was discovered that the body was that of Inspector Yusuf Suleiman.

    “The family of the deceased was informed of the incident and in a bid to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of the deceased, the CP directed the state CID to take over the case.

  • Updated: Police Inspector kills man over alleged N200 bribe in Lagos

    A Police Inspector identified as Paul Joseph has been arrested for shooting a motorcyclist dead over alleged N200 bribe in Lagos.

    The incident occurred at Kilo Bus Stop in Surulere, Lagos Mainland Thursday morning.

    It was gathered that the policemen who was with two others in a patrol vehicle had stopped the deceased, Ademola Moshood and requested the usual money which the motorcyclist refused to give them because he had closed business for the day and was homebound.

    Angered by his refusal, Joseph was said to have moved closer to the man, cocked his gun and shot him on the head.

    According to witnesses, the policemen were attached to Soloki Division Aguda and had his behind a van when protesters stormed the station to demand justice.

    They alleged that the policemen after killing the man, fled the scene with his motorcycle, leaving his body on the ground.

    They identified the other policemen as AK and Patrick, appealing to the Police Commissioner Zubairu Muazu to investigate the issue and charge the culprits for murder.

    Police spokesman Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP) said the Commissioner Zubairu Muazu had ordered that the culprit be detained and tried.

    “The Inspector is in detention. He is being investigated and the circumstances that led to the shooting. We do not know what led to the shooting and we would not want to preempt the investigation. But be assured that the Commissioner of Police will not tolerate any unprofessional conduct. Details of the investigation will be made known.”

    The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that a policeman, Umaru Danladi, was killed by a suspected herdsman at Kaoge, Bagudo Local Government Area.

    Danladi was attached to the Kaoje Police Division in Bagudo council and the assailant, Babuga Kuaara, has been arrested.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a farmer reported the matter at the police division that Kuaara grazed his cows to destroy his farm on Wednesday evening.

    A witness, who craved for anonymity, said: “A policemen attached to Kaoje police division was deployed to arrest the herdsman who was still wandering with his cattle within the area.

    “The policeman arrested the suspect but the herdsman cut him with his machete while he was being taken to the patrol vehicle.

    “We saw the officer groaning in pains and bleeding but he died before we could apply first aid. The herdsman was overpowered by officers who rushed to the scene.”

    Police spokesman Mustapha Suleiman said the suspect has been arrested.

    “We have arrested the herdsman, Babuga Kuaara, for killing the policemen. He confessed to the crime and will be prosecuted accordingly,” he added.

    A police inspector and a soldier attached to 2 Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army , Herbert Mbachu (55 ), and Corporal Sikiru Balogun ( 46 ), and seven others have been arrested by the Oyo state Police Command  for various armed robbery operations in Ibadan and other major towns in the state.

    Other suspects who were said to be specialized in hijacking fuel laden trucks on highways were the leader of the gang ,Johnson Precious (45), Lawal Olalekan (26), Sodiq Onifade (26), Timothy Ayodele (53), Oluwadare Segun (30), Gabriel Olanrewaju (39), and Gbadegesin Olawale (45).

    The police inspector was said to have deserted for about a year, having served the police force for 34 years .

    Addressing newsmen at the Eleyele Police Headquarters, Ibadan  Wednesday, the state Commissioner of Police , Mr Abiodun Odude listed as exhibits items recovered from the suspects to include the sum of N1.2million cash, two Honda Accord cars with registration numbers AKD 74 BH , and LSD 680 ES , and one Nokia C-200 cell phone.

    The state police boss noted that until their arrest , the suspects had operated in Ojoo, Iwo Road, Lagos-Ibadan expressway and other parts of the state, snatching trucks conveying petroleum product to various destinations across the country.

    Odude said ”From 2016 till date , no fewer than six of such trucks had been hijacked by this notorious gang whose members include a dismissed police inspector and a soldier both whom often operated using the military camouflage and police uniform.

    ” In one of their latest operations , the suspects on April 4, 2017 at about 0800 hours waylaid a fuel laden DAF tanker with registration number APC 937 XB at a bad portion of the road in Salsa , Ojoo area of the state and snatched the vehicle with thirty-three thousand litres of petroleum from the driver whom they abducted to an unknown destination but was dropped off afterwards.

    “Discreet investigation carried out by the Special Anti-robbery Squad led to the arrest of one of the suspects, Sodiq Onifade , from whom the victim’s handset was recovered. His arrest and subsequent confession led to the arrest of other members of gang at their various criminal hideouts.”

    In totality, the Commissioner said about 34 suspected armed robbers were arrested in the past two weeks in the state.

    Paraded also by the Commissioner of police was the leader of a six man gang of kidnappers , Mohammed Abdullahi (29) who confessed to be responsible for the abduction of an Ibadan-based popular oil magnate , the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bovas Oil and Gas Limited sometimes in 2016 .

    Among the suspects involve in the kidnap of the Ibadan based oil magnate Abubakar Mohammed (35) , Umoru Abubakar (32) ,  Ogun Aremu ( 35) , Mutairu Mohammed (30) , and Tambaya Tukura (29).

    The Commissioner of Police explained to newsmen that the kidnap kingpin was arrested by the Federal Special Anti-robbery Squad in his criminal hideout in Ilesa  Baruba , Kwara state .

    ” The kingpin , upon his arrest confessed to have led series of robbery and kidnap operations on several occasions within the state. One of the victims of the gang was an Ibadan based popular oil magnate , the MD/CEO of Bovas Oil and Gas Ltd. who was kidnapped in 2016 and an undisclosed ransom collected from her family before being released from captivity.

    “The gang also kidnapped and eventually killed another victim , Alhaji Saliu Sale along Ago-Are , Saki after collecting a staggering ransom of six million naira from victim’s relations , ” he said.

    Also, paraded was a 20 year-old Ibrahim Aliyu Babatunde who allegedly masterminded the kidnap of his own father.

    Fake police inspector held at Oshodi

    Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) operatives yesterday arrested a man described as a fake police officer.

    Faith Sunday John, 32, was said to have been parading himself as a police inspector attached to the Ikeja Police Command. The task force said he initially claimed to be a commercial bus driver.

    Parading the suspect, task force Chairman Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Superintendent of Police (SP) said he was arrested while extorting money from some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Oshodi.

    Egbeyemi said the suspect was caught wearing the police original cardigan and identity card.

    Preliminary investigations, he said, revealed that the cardigan and identity card belonged to his late father, who was an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) before he died last year.

    Egbeyemi explained that the suspect who lives 37, Anjorin Street, Shasha, Egbeda removed his late father’s passport from the identity card and re-laminated it with his own passport.

    The suspect has been charged to court.

  • Court remands Police Inspector for killing ‘okada’ rider

    A Magistrate Court sitting in Oke Eda, Akure, Ondo State on Friday ordered for the remand of a police inspector, Anthony Nwadike in prison custody for allegedly killing an motorcycle rider in Omifon in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

    Sources said the deceased, Sunday Joseph and two other persons were shot by the alleged killer cop during an argument.

    They were said to be on the motorcycle and met the accused person and some other police men at a police check-point.

    It was learnt that accused threw a big stick to the deceased on the motorcycle to stop him, making the deceased and his passengers to fall down.

    Consequently, it was learnt that an argument ensued between the deceased and the policemen.

    This reportedly led to the shooting of the three people by the cop .

    The deceased was said to have died on the spot while the two other victims were still in critical condition at the hospital.

    The accused person however pleaded not guilty to the offence but his plea was not taken.

    In his ruling, Magistrate; V. Bob-Manuel ordered that the accused person should be remanded in Olokuta Prison and adjourned the case till October 12.

    Wife stabs Police Inspector to death in Ondo

    A Police Inspector’s wife in Ondo state, Wumi Omowa has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband, Israel.

    The suspect was arrested by men of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in connection with the alleged murder of her husband.

    It was gathered that the suspect stabbed her husband several times in different parts of his body when an argument ensued between them over a domestic issue.

    The incident according to a reliable source happened at the couple’s residence located at Olu Foam area, along Ilesa-Owo highway in Akure.

    The deceased Police Officer who was in his mid 30s reportedly married his wife four years ago and they were both living peacefully before the incident.

    Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations officer (PPRO) Mr Femi Joseph said Omowa was confirmed dead at a Private hospital in Akure where his wife rushed him to after stabbing him.

  • STF personnel kills police inspector in Plateau

    An army corporal attached to the Special Task Force in Plateau State on Monday, allegedly killed a police inspector at a check point in the state.

    The Plateau Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Onuigbo, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Jos.

    He said that the incident happened “at about 2pm on Monday.’’

    “Preliminary investigation revealed that the two men had a `little altercation’ that led to the shooting,’’ he said.

    “The matter is already under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Jos. We want to find out why the corporal shot the inspector.

    “The army corporal has been arrested and he is in detention with the appropriate authority.

    “As soon as the matter is completed, he will be charged to court,’’ the police spokesman said.

    The police official, however, did not give the identity of the persons involved.

    “Such details will be made public in due course,’’ he added.

    Efforts to speak with STF spokesman, Capt. Salisu Mustapha, proved abortive as calls to his line were neither picked, nor returned.

    An STF source told NAN that the spokesman was on the entourage of the STF Commander, Maj.-Gen. Henry Ayoola, on a peace sensitisation tour to some crisis-prone communities in the outskirts of Jos.
