The commission had on its website last week published 5,059 names as those shortlisted for medical screening.

The figure for medical screening was lower than the 6,000 advertised and the final number released as successful candidates for training is higher than the advertised position.

Also, contrary to the list released last week, where Kano recorded the highest number of candidates shortlisted for medical screening, The Nation observed that Niger State now has the highest number of successful candidates.

In the list released for medical screening, Niger had only 169 candidates. But the list of successful candidates for the job shows Niger with 346 candidates.

Curiously, the Inspector General (IG) Ibrahim Idris is from Niger State.

The list of candidates shortlisted for medical screening had Kano with the highest number of candidates with 308, followed by Katsina with 238 and Oyo with 225 candidates.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has the least number of candidates with 45, followed by Bayelsa with 54 and Gombe with 75.

“The date of commencement of training is Friday June 8, 2018. Resumption closes on June 13, 2018 in all the training schools.

“Failure to report at the training schools by June 13, 2018, will mean that the candidates have declined the offer.”

When The Nation contacted the commission’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, to know why the figure was higher than the advertised figure, he promised to confirm and get back to us.

On why there were some irregularities in the list, a highly placed source in the Police said: “You don’t have all the list. There were additional list, which you didn’t have. They gave more people opportunity to go for medicals. They choose about 10 persons per local government believing that at medicals, some people will drop but it is like most of them passed their medicals.

“Those places where we have names repeated, they will clean it up and then we might arrive at something close to what we are supposed to get.

You know these things are based on local governments.”

On whether Niger State recording highest number of had anything to do with the IG, he simply said: “I can’t comment on that.”
