    Ogun Police warn of rise in missing persons

    The Ogun Police Command has observed an unprecedented increase in reports of missing individuals across all age groups in the State.

    It also expressed grave concern that while only a small fraction of these missing individuals are located, a significant number regrettably do not return home.

    The command however assured it was taking proactive steps and committed to raising public awareness about the disturbing trend and urged residents to prioritize their safety by maintaining a heightened sense of security to avoid becoming a victim.

    The Police Public Relations Officer, 

    Ogun Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, who raised the alarm on Tuesday night in a release stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has outlined measures to keep the residents informed about this pressing issue.

    Odutola stated that following insights gained from rescued individuals, the command advised parents to refrain from using commercial transportation services for their children with unfamiliar persons.

    She urged the youth to activate digital communication and sharing features on their mobile devices while traveling, especially during moments of distress.

    Police arrest 19 over Owo cult killing

    Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested 19 persons in connection to the killings of four persons in Owo community, Owo local government area.

    A leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owo, Fisayo Oladipo, was among the victims of the cult related killings which occurred on Monday.

    Commissioner of Police Ondo State, Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed this when he visited Owo to ascertain true situation of things.

    Afolabi, who assumed duty on Tuesday as new Ondo CP, said he was also in Owo to monitor level of compliance of the curfew imposed on the town by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

    He assured that peace has been restored to the community.

    “We are in Owo this morning to monitor the level of compliance with the curfew imposed on the town by the state government.

    “So far so good normalcy has returned to the town and there is calm and peace across the town.

    “So far we have 19 suspects in our custody and we have only four people confirmed death in our record,” he said.

    “But for those who hate peace they will not find it easy with us because whenever they go to we will follow them  and laws of the land will caught them.”

    Abia CP disbands anti-cultism unit, demotes police corporal

    The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, has disbanded the Anti-Cultism Unit of the command due to allegations of unprofessional conduct and incivility toward the public.

    Since assuming office, CP Isa has emphasized professionalism during tours of various divisions and strategic meetings with senior officers. 

    He has consistently warned that his administration will not tolerate misconduct among officers and rank-and-file personnel.

    In a statement issued on Tuesday through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, CP Isa said the move aligns with the vision of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Agbetokun, to create a professional, service-driven, and rule-of-law-compliant police force that is friendly to the public.

    CP Isa also approved the demotion of Corporal Ebuka Okonkwo, with Force No. 527324, to the rank of Constable. 

    Okonkwo, previously serving at the Aba Area Command and on special duty in Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area, was found guilty of discreditable and unprofessional conduct following an administrative trial.

    The disciplinary actions reflect the Abia Police Command’s commitment to upholding ethical standards within the force.

    “The Commissioner of Police emphasized the Command’s zero-tolerance policy for any form of unprofessional conduct among officers that could tarnish the good image of the Force.

    Police confirm two dead in Abuja school explosion

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command yesterday said two people died in a suspected bomb explosion at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area of the FCT.

    The police command said it receiving a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi and dispatched a team of operatives, including the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the Area Commander of Kubwa, to the scene.

    It said the area was immediately cordoned off to protect residents and ensure a thorough investigation.

    The police said in the course of combing he scene, they evacuated the victims and took them to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.

    A statement yesterday in Abuja by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Josephine Adeh, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina, who were suspected to have carried an explosive, visited the owner of the Islamic school, Mallam Adamu Ashimu.

    Adeh said two of the men died while fiddling with the improvised explosive device (IED) on the school veranda.

    The third man and a female trader reportedly sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment under police guard.

    The statement said: “The FCT Police Command regrets to inform the public of a tragic incident involving a suspected bomb explosion that occurred on January 6, 2025, at approximately 11 a.m. at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School, located in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area of the FCT.

    “The FCT Bomb Squad has confirmed that it was an IED explosion, as remnants of the device have been recovered.”

    The statement said the school owner had been taken into custody for questioning, promising that further findings would be communicated in due course.

    But the Chairman of Bwari Area Council, John Gabaya, said the incident resulted in one fatality at the scene.

    He said: “One person died there immediately. That was confirmed. Four other persons, including a girl who sustained injuries, were taken to a hospital.

    “The girl was selling awara (soybean cake) when the bomb exploded. Since she was closer to the scene of the explosion, she was also wounded. So, they took the four of them to the hospital.”

    Gabaya promised to provide further details on the incident as he received them.

    In her statement, Adeh said FCT Police Commissioner Olatunji Disu urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, behaviour, or items that may resemble improvised explosive devices.

    The statement added: “Members of the public should always report such incident to the police via our emergency numbers:  0806 158 1938, 0803 200 3913, 0802 894 0883, 0705 733 7653, as well as: CRU: 0810 731 4192, and PCB: 0902 222 2352.

    “Emergency numbers: Keep emergency contact numbers handy and ensure your family members are aware of them.

    “Community vigilance: Collaborate with your neighbors to maintain a safe environment.”

    Police arrest suspected killer of CSP, dislodge child trafficking syndicate

    Operatives of the Force Intelligence Department-Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) have arrested a 35 year old Ogaga Dickson.

    The suspect is a member of a notorious armed robbery syndicate responsible for the death of CSP Hassan Jega, the DPO Agbarho Division, Delta State, who was killed on October 14, last year, during a gun battle between a team of police officers led by the deceased DPO and the assailants, after the team of police men had foiled one of their robbery operations.

    The operatives, according to the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, while parading suspects in Abuja, had earlier stormed the gang’s den and engaged them in a fierce gun duel leading to the neutralisation of four of the gang members.

    Adejobi said upon Ogaga’s arrest, the police recovered one Ak 47 rifle, one English pistol, one local pistol, ammunition of various calibres and six exotic vehicles.

    He said: “The Nigeria Police Force as part of its efforts to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians by employing proactive, intelligence-driven strategies to combat crime have evolved improved strategies to combat crimes and criminality.

    “These efforts have led to the disruption of criminal networks and a notable decrease in incidents of organized and violent crime, enhancing the overall security situation in the country.

    “On the 1st of November 2024, operatives of the FID-IRT arrested one Ogaga Dickson ‘m’ 35 years.’’

    “Similarly, police operatives apprehended a child-trafficking syndicate led by one Pastor Dayo Bernard ‘m’ of End Time Army Ministry, Bukuru, Plateau State on the 2nd of December 2024. The operation led to the rescue of five children between the ages of 2-4, abducted from various homes in Jos, Plateau State, and the arrest of other members of the syndicate identified as Rita Agboeze ‘f’, Victoria Ugwu ‘f’, Nanman Puntel ‘f’, and Peter Ukwuani ‘m’. “

    According to a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, Preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina visited the owner of the Islamic school, Mallam Adamu Ashimu. 

    The three visitors were suspected of having brought the explosive device with them.

    Adeh said two of the men died in the explosion while tampering with the improvised explosive device (IED) on the school Veranda while the third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries. They are receiving treatment under police guard.

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police command on Monday said its operatives arrested no fewer than fifty suspects for vandalism and theft of manhole covers within the territory.

    It was learnt that the suspects were arrested at various “panteka” hotspots in Kabusa, Garki, Mabushi and Wuse areas of the territory. 

    About twenty five manhole covers, three vehicles, vandalized solar street lights, galvanized rods used in the construction of flyovers, other tools used in vandalizing these government installations, and several other exhibits were also recovered. 

    The FCT Police Commissioner, Olatunji Disu, disclosed these during a parade of suspects in Abuja.

    Disu stated that investigations revealed that the suspects operated as part of a larger network, selling stolen manhole covers to scrap dealers. 

    He said: “Our operatives conducted a targeted operation, leading to the arrest of FIFTY (50) suspects and recovery of TWENTY-FIVE (25) manhole covers, THREE (3) vehicles, vandalized solar street lights, galvanized rods used in the construction of flyovers, other tools used in vandalizing these government installations, and several other exhibits at various panteka hotspots in Kabusa, Garki, Mabushi and Wuse. 

    “Investigations have revealed that these individuals operate as part of a larger network, selling stolen manhole covers to scrap dealers. This criminal activity endangers the lives of the general public by creating hazards on roads and walkways while undermining the integrity of public infrastructure. Below is a detailed breakdown of the suspects arrested and exhibits recovered:

    “The suspects arrested; Bashir Usman, Shaibu Ibrahim, Sani Isah, Ibrahim Hassan, Mustapha Hassan, Awal Nawan, Umar Aliyu, Auta Umar, Simon Clement, Datti Ibrahim, Mohammed Salim, Ibrahim Ibrahim, Ifeanyi-Chuckwu Emmanuel, Abba Ismail, Najib Abdul, Muhammed Lawal, Rabiu Ibrahim, Adamu Suleiman, Abdulkarim Abdullahi, Haruna Nasiru, Abdul Nai’ja, Josua Steven, Livinus Steven, Ismail Abdullahi, Munir Sada.

    “I want to emphasize that the FCT Police Command and our sister security agencies operate a zero-tolerance policy toward acts of vandalism and theft that undermine public infrastructure and safety. This achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to protecting the critical infrastructure of the Federal Capital Territory. We will continue to ensure that all those responsible for these criminal acts are brought to justice. The kind of these enclaves will continue,” the CP added.

    “Upon interrogation, the principal suspect confessed to having abducted and sold 13 children at varying prices, all of whom have been recovered by the police and reunited with their families through the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

    “Furthermore, in line with the IGP’s directive to all police detectives to mop up every illicit arm and ammunition in circulation, operatives of the FID-IRT have successfully recovered 14 AK-47 rifles.

    “These operations exemplify the unwavering resolve of the Nigeria Police Force and highlight the effectiveness of our efforts to combat crime and enhance national security.”

    Police confirm 18 injured in gas explosion in Port Harcourt

    The police command in Rivers has said that 18 persons were severely injured in a gas explosion which occurred in the Oroazi community in Port Harcourt.

    The incident occurred in Sunday evening at a gas refilling shop, causing significant damage to nearby buildings.

    The latest explosion follows a series of gas and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) incidents recorded in the state since 2024.

    SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.

    According to her, yes, I can confirm that the explosion was caused by a welder repairing a refrigerator.

    ‘’The technician was using a gas cylinder to weld while simultaneously trying to refill gas on the refrigerator which led to the explosion.

    “No fewer than 18 persons, including the technician, sustained injuries but fortunately, no lives were lost,” she added.

    Iringe-Koko stated that those injured suffered varying degrees of burns and were promptly evacuated to the hospital where they are receiving treatment.

    She also confirmed that the police have launched a full investigation into the incident and would share their findings with the public.

    An eyewitness, identified as Tamuno, described the incident as devastating, noting that the victims included a pregnant woman, four children, and a couple.

    “The explosion triggered a chain reaction with other gas cylinders in the shop also exploding.

    “Most of the victims were residents and passers-by who unfortunately happened to be near the shop at the time,” he said.

    He added that many of the victims were rushed to the Rivers State Teaching Hospital in Port Harcourt and expressed hope for their survival.

    Some of the suspected criminals removing sewage manhole covers on highways in Abuja have been arrested by the police, civil defence and other security agencies.

    Efforts are also being made to apprehend their collaborators, especially buyers of the manhole covers.

    According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant, (SSA) Public Communications and New Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has ordered  their arrest and said relevant stakeholders are already working hard to stop this act of vandalism by criminal elements.

    He said the public will be briefed on the development in due course.

    Wike reacted after a video of a man seen showing how the highway sewage manhole covers have been stolen thereby causing danger to motorists. 

    The statement went further: “The Minister, who lamented that Nigerians could go to the devilish extent of removing sewage manhole covers on highways and selling them, thereby putting the lives of road users at risk, vowed that government will do everything necessary to bring the perpetrators to book.

    “He said it was sad that government will use public funds to put amenities in place for the use of Nigerians, and criminally minded Nigerians will remove the amenities and sell them to Nigerians, who do not mind the danger their nefarious activities pose to their fellow Nigerians.

    “The FCT Minister thanked Nigerians, especially the man who took his time to record the video that went viral, describing his effort as demonstration of patriotism that the country desired”.

    Recall that that the highway sewage manhole covers were recently fixed alongside the new roads.
