    Family, others to police: release detained son

    Stakeholders and family members of the detained Mr Isaac Bristol-Alagbariya have called on the police in Rivers State to release him.

    They said their son was unlawfully arrested, detained and tortured without proper investigations.

    Speaking at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, the stakeholder said policemen, who were dressed in mufti, arrested Isaac on August 5, at the Osmosis Hotel along Ada George Road about 1.12pm.

     Speaking on behalf of the family, Aseme-Warisenibo, said the policemen came in two  Lexus SUVs, broke into the hotel room of Isaac and whisked him away to an undisclosed location in a gestapo manner.

    Aseme-Warisenino said: “Mr Isaac was transfered from the Anti-kidnapping Unit at Mini Okoro Police Station on August 10, 2024, to the National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC) in Abuja, via a United Nigeria Airline 6pm flight, after being subjected to torture with allegation of being a kidnapper and armed robber.

    “The laws of Nigeria presumes every citizen innocent until proven guilty but in this case , with every step and action taken, the Nigeria Police Force broke the laws.They treated Bristol-Alagbariya as guilty until proven innocent.”.The stakeholders and family members urged the Inspector-General of Police to release the victim.

    Police foil bandit attack, rescue five kidnapped victims in Katsina

    Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have foiled two bandits’ attacks and rescued five kidnapped victims in Malumfashi local government area of the state.

    This is contained in a statement issued by the command’s Spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq,on Monday in Katsina.

    He said that the police also neutralised two bandits.

    ”On Sunday, a distress call was received at the Malumfashi Divisional police headquarters,  from Layin Minister Village that bandits attacked and kidnaped five people.

    “Upon receipt of the report, operatives were quickly dispatched to the scene. On noticing the presence of the police operatives, the hoodlums opened fire and the team responded gallantly.

    “All the kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt, as the assailants succumbed to the superior firepower of the operatives and fled the scene with various degrees of bullet wounds.”

    According to Sadiq-Aliyu, on the same date, another distress call was received at the same headquarters, that some suspected armed bandits riding on twelve (12) motorcycles, wielding dangerous weapons were shooting sporadically.

    “They took advantage of the downpour and attacked Marabar Kankara village, Malumfashi LGA.

    “On receipt of the information, DPO Malumfashi swiftly mobilised operatives to the scene gallantly engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel and successfully foiled the attack.

    “In the course of scanning the scene, the bodies of two neutralised suspected armed bandits were recovered.

    “Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds,” Sadiq-Aliyu said.

    He explained that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Aliyu Abubakar-Musa while commending the exceptional act displayed by the operatives, reiterated the command’s commitment towards ensuring a better-secured Katsina State.

    20 kidnapped medical students: Police kill kingpin, arrest two others

    …as IGP handovers 20 rescued medical students to VC University of Maiduguri 

    The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, revealed on Sunday, August 25, that the leader of the gang involved in the abduction of medical students, who were rescued on Friday, has been arrested. 

    Egbetokun disclosed this while handing over the 20 rescued students to the Vice Chancellors of the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos.

    He said the police also rescued seven kidnapped victims alongside the 20 students. 

    The police boss also said that no ransom was paid to rescue the kidnapped victims.

    The medical students arrived Force Headquarters alongside the IGP at about 5:30 pm. 

    The medical students were kidnapped on 15 August and they were eventual release on Friday.

    He said: “Today, it is with a deep sense of relief that I brief you on a successful operation conducted by the Nigeria Police Force, which resulted in the rescue of 27 innocent citizens on 22nd August, 2024, who had been abducted by a dangerous criminal gang in Benue State. 

    “Among those rescued were 20 medical students of the University of Jos Teaching Hospital comprising 16 males and 4 females, who were cruelly taken abducted while in transit to a Conference in Enugu on 15th August, 2024, five other passengers and two other victims who had also fallen victim to these heinous criminals were also freed.

    “The successful rescue of these 27 individuals was achieved without the payment of any ransom. This success was possible through the activation of security intelligence network, synergy with other security agencies, community partnership and the deployment of our highly skilled and tactical officers, whose dedication, bravery, and precision in executing their duties are truly commendable. 

    “During the operation, our officers engaged the kidnappers in a well-coordinated tactical offensive. 

    “I am pleased to inform you that the kingpin of this notorious gang was neutralized during exchange of fire with our operatives and his weapon recovered, while two other members of the gang were arrested. 

    “These individuals are currently in our custody, where they are providing valuable information that will help us dismantle their criminal network and prevent future occurrences of such abductions.

    “It is pertinent to state that rescue operations of this magnitude are painstakingly difficult and complex, requiring not only deployment of resources but also meticulous planning and coordination. In this regard, I must extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Office of the National Security Adviser, whose support was instrumental in this operation. 

    “I also wish to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of other security agencies who partnered with us, as well as the local vigilantes who played a crucial role in ensuring the success of this mission. This success is a demonstration of what can be achieved when we work together towards a common goal.

    “Let me take this opportunity to address all Nigerians, particularly the relatives of those who have been victims of such criminal acts. We understand the anxiety and pain that families experience during these trying times. However, we urge you to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies when such situations arise. It is only through cooperation and trust that we can effectively carry out our constitutional mandate of securing lives and property.

    “We remain resolute in our commitment to rid our nation of criminal elements who seek to disrupt the peace and security of our society. The Nigeria Police Force will continue to employ every lawful means at its disposal to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians while strongly determined to ensure that those who choose to engage in criminal activities will be brought to justice.

    The Acting Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele said: “I am happy that the 20 medical students have been rescued. We will do everything possible to make them comfortable in school”.

    The Vice Chancellor University of Jos,  Professor Tanko Ishaya said: “As a university, we have already arranged and prepared that as soon as you hand over  these students to us, we are going to camp them somewhere where we are going to provide counseling, guidance and counseling before they are actually reintegrated back into the society. 

    “We may assume that they are not going through any  trauma because they are looking very unhealthy, but we believe that they require a kind of guidance, particularly counseling that will make them overcome the trauma and the experience that they have had”.

    One of the parents, John Enger who spoke unbehalf of others expressed happiness over the their rescue and urged the Security operatives to do more and rescue other people that are still in captivity. 

    Enger said: “We were desperate as parents. Anxiety was everywhere. You cannot work, nor sleep.

    “We had these challenges. The VC, as he said, he encouraged us. The commission of police, most of it through the PPRO. 

    “But you see, we were afraid. The person representing the minister said, and you said this also, that is a turning point. This turning point was not there. 

    We were afraid of the experiences of the past. That’s why we went all the way. Most of us, had the money to pay but thank God the security operatives rescued them without paying anything.

    “Fortunately, this is a good event. And we appreciate, we thank you sincerely. All our children are here safe. 

    “So we are very grateful to you for the effort. We are very grateful to the president.  we are very grateful to the NSA. You see, when you said it, that NSA gave all its best. We know that somebody had done something. Today, if it happened, we know that the security men are there. Before we were afraid. 

    “So thank you very much. On behalf of the parents, we appreciate the gentlemen of the press because they helped us. Information was everywhere”.

    The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia urged the students not to be discouraged by their abduction. 

    The governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Finance, Michael Oglegba said: “Despite what has happened to you. Go, and be successful. Prove that Nigeria has not spared its best to save you for nothing. Be there for the country. To the parents who stood and prayed with us throughout, thank you.

    “The whole country, we are all awake praying for you, hoping that the social media was at God with prayers and everything that you must come back. So please prove Nigeria right by being the best you can, the best doctors, the best whatever it is you’re studying. And the rest of the police, thank you.”

    The governor lauded the president, adding that the security situation in the state was getting better. 

    He said: “Things have taken a turn for the better with the coming of this present government. If you notice, the whole scale, industrial scale killings that used to happen in Benue have been reduced to a minimum. We’re not there yet, but we’re moving towards that place.”

    Kaduna police nab cattle rustlers, gunrunners, foil kidnap attempt

    The Kaduna state police command has arrested two cattle rustlers, two notorious gunrunners, and foiled a kidnapping attempt in separate operations across the state.

    In a press release issued by the command’s public relations officer, Mansir Hassan, the arrests were made following a raid on a hideout in the Kasuwa Magani area of Kujama on August 22, 2024.

    The operatives, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended two suspects, Aminu Saleh (25) and Jafar Ibrahim (24), who confessed to their involvement in cattle rustling.

    The suspects also revealed that four other members of their syndicate are still at large.

    On the same day, the Command’s Tracking and Response Team intercepted a kidnapping attempt following a report by one Shafiu Abdullahi.

    Abdullahi had reportedly received threatening calls demanding a ransom of N10 million.

    The police arrested three suspects, Umar Baso, Shehu Filani, and Babangida Abdulkarim, all residents of Soba and Kajuru LGAs.

    The suspects have since confessed to their crime.

    In another operation on August 24, the police arrested two suspects involved in supplying arms and ammunition to kidnappers across Kaduna, Katsina, and Zamfara states.

    The suspects, Dahiru Liman (47) of Garin Kurama Village, Lere LGA, and Sani Abdullahi Makeri (45) of Kankara LGA, Katsina State, were found in possession of a fabricated AK-47 rifle and five rounds of live 9mm ammunition.

    They have confessed to their long-term involvement in illegal arms trafficking.

    The Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Ali Dabigi, urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents.

    The Imo State Police Command has arrested five kidnapping syndicates responsible for terrorizing residents in Obinze, Avu, and environs in connection to the kidnapping of a 26-year-old woman from her residence in Obinze in Owerri West local government area.

    The suspects are: Umaru Usman, 40, from Mauree in Sokoto State; Tukur Yau, 25, from Dawakinkudur in Kano State; Musbau Sabo, 18, from Warsaw Local Government in Kano State; Abdul Ibrahim, 30, from Sokoto State; and Jubrin Idris, 35, from Sokoto State.

    A press release by the Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye on yesterday stated that the Command, in response to a reported kidnapping of a 26-year-old woman from her residence in Obinze, on August 18, 2024, swung into action.

    The release said that the Commissioner of Police promptly deployed the Command’s anti-kidnapping unit with all available operational resources and intelligence to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safe rescue of the victim.

    According to the release, the operatives targeted a forest hideout in Avu, where the suspects were located and successfully rescued the victim unharmed and arrested the suspects.

    Items recovered from the suspects include one pump-action gun, five cartridges, two daggers, a cutlass, and various criminal charms.

    He said  that investigations are still ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang and ensure they face the full extent of the law.

    The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a suspect involved in document leaks in his hotel room in Rivers State.

    The suspect, Bristol Isaac Tamunobiefiri also known as PIDOM was arrested on allegations of committing serious offences that undermine the integrity of government operations.

    A statement issued yesterday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said: “In a well-coordinated effort, officials from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) apprehended Bristol Isaac Tamunobiefiri, also known as PIDOM, on allegations of committing serious offenses that undermine the integrity of government operations. The arrest took place on August 5, 2024, in his hotel room Rivers State.

    “There are several allegations levelled against the suspect, including unlawful possession, leakages of classified documents, cyber related offences, and others. We will do due diligence in carrying out thorough investigation into the cases.

    Police detain woman with anti-aircraft ammunition in Nasarawa

    The Nasarawa State Police Command says it has arrested a woman in possession of anti-aircraft ammunition in Keffi Local Government Area of the state.

    The command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ramhan Nansel, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), disclosed this to newsmen in Lafia, the state capital yesterday.

    According to the police PRO, the personnel attached to Keffi Division had intercepted the suspect at about 5:10 pm on Friday, following credible information.

    The police spokesperson added that the suspect, who hails from Doro village in Katsina, was with a two-year-old baby when she was intercepted.

    “Consequently, 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil, one Tecno mobile phone and the sum of N78,500 were recovered from the suspect as exhibits.

    “Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect received a supply of ammunition at Rafin Sanyi village, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

    “She concealed the items in a gallon of palm oil en route Katsina State before nemesis caught up with her,” Nansel added.

    Nansel said the Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, had ordered the transfer of the suspect and exhibit to Force Intelligence Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja for further investigation.

    The police have arrested suspect involved in alleged document leaks in his hotel room in Rivers State.

    No ransom paid to free 20 kidnapped medical students – Police

    The Police said no ransom was paid to secure the release of the 20 medical students kidnapped in Benue.

    A statement by the Force Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said: “Contrary to some tweets and unconfirmed stories that some money was paid, no kobo was paid to release them. They were actually rescued tactically and professionally.”

    THE NATION reported the kidnap of the medical students on 15 August and their eventual release on Friday.

    The police are yet to provide details of the rescue, including whether any of the kidnappers were arrested or killed.

    A colleague of the kidnapped students told our correspondent the kidnappers demanded N50 million ransom.
