According to a statement yesterday by police spokesman SP Bright Edafe, the police have arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered N5million ransom from them.

Edafe said the Special Anti-kidnapping and Cybercrimes Squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor, tracked down suspected kidnappers operating in the state, stating that the suspects were found at their hideout in Ogwashi Ukwu, Oshimili North Local Government.

He said one of the arrested suspects, Sanusi Abdulahi, was apprehended in possession of a ransom of N5,000,000 (N5million), which was part of the funds collected from one of their kidnapping victims.

He said preliminary investigations linked the arrested suspects to multiple kidnappings in areas such as Ibusa, Ogwash-Ukwu, Obulu-Okiti and Isele-Ukwu, among others.

The spokesman said the operation led to the identification of a recent kidnapping incident involving a young lady on July 9.

Edafe further said the suspect, Abdulahi, provided information that led to the arrest of four additional gang members at their hideouts in Asaba.

He said investigations into their criminal activities were ongoing.

He also said during a sting operation on armed gang on July 9,  around 8:35am, the CP-Special Assignment Team conducted a raid along the Patani-Ughelli Expressway, specifically near the Unenurhei axis targeted at arresting Solomon Danisco (alias “Picolo”), Nelson Jacob, Oruma Saturday, Olise Jude, Precious Urhobowin, and Whisky Rufus (alias “Asawana”).

They identified the suspects as 25-year-old Yunusa Abdullahi, a male from Borno State, and Peace Keno Danlami, a 20-year-old female from Taraba State.

Wang, who was an employee of WH Great Resource Ltd., Ogere in Ogun State was found dead in his office on January 12, 2025.

Seven months later, police operatives arrested the suspects on July 14, 2025 in Jos, Plateau State, following months of intensive surveillance and coordinated intelligence operations.

Recalling the incident that led to the death of the Chinese, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said a distress call led officers of the Ogun State Police Command to the scene, where his lifeless body was discovered with multiple stab injuries to the chest.

According to him: “His killing immediately triggered a high-level investigation. The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda, has recorded a breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against criminal elements in the state, particularly kidnappers.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, five suspected kidnappers were apprehended and a ₦5 million ransom was recovered from them.

According to Edafe, the arrest followed a coordinated operation by the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrimes Squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor. Acting on intelligence, the team raided a hideout in Ogwashi-Ukwu, Oshimili North Local Government Area, where one of the suspects, Sanusi Abdulahi, was arrested in possession of ₦5,000,000—believed to be part of a ransom paid by one of their recent victims.

Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to a series of kidnapping cases across various communities, including Ibusa, Ogwashi-Ukwu, Obulu-Okiti, and Isele-Ukwu. One notable incident was the abduction of a young lady on July 9, 2025.

Abdulahi’s confession led to the arrest of four additional members of the kidnapping gang from their various hideouts in Asaba. Investigations into the gang’s broader criminal network are ongoing.

In a separate sting operation on the same day, around 8:35 a.m., the CP-Special Assignment Team conducted a raid along the Patani-Ughelli Expressway near the Unenurhei axis, targeting an armed gang. The suspects—identified as Solomon Danisco (alias “Picolo”), Nelson Jacob, Oruma Saturday, Olise Jude, Precious Urhobowin, and Whisky Rufus (alias “Asawana”)—engaged police officers in a fierce gun battle.

The exchange of gunfire left six of the suspects fatally wounded, with two others currently receiving treatment. The police recovered four locally-made firearms and 19 live cartridges during the operation.

SP Edafe said the success of these operations reflects the proactive approach of the Delta State Police Command in combating kidnapping and armed robbery.

He emphasised that ongoing investigations are vital to dismantling criminal syndicates and enhancing the safety of residents across the state.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that they were allegedly responsible for a series of kidnappings at Ibusa, Ogwash-Ukwu, Obulu-Okiti, Isele-Ukwu, Isele-Asagba and most recently the kidnapping of a young lady at Ogwash-Ukwu on the 9th July 2025. Police arrest 10 robbery suspects, recover three cars, guns in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected armed robbers, uncovered an illegal gun fabrication workshop, and recovered three stolen vehicles in a renewed crackdown on crime across the state.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Mansir Hassan, revealed in a statement on Friday that the arrests resulted from coordinated operations in Kawo, Makarfi, Ungwan Sanusi, and other identified crime flashpoints in recent weeks.

He said the intensified operations are part of the command’s ongoing strategy to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety.

“In one incident, a Good Samaritan reported a brutal attack on a commercial motorcyclist at Unguwan Gwari. The victim, 40-year-old Ismail Bello, was stabbed multiple times by a passenger who attempted to snatch his motorcycle,” the statement said.

Hassan noted that operatives from Kawo Division swiftly responded and arrested the suspect, identified as Nura Auwal. The stolen motorcycle was recovered and held as an exhibit.

Similarly, on June 19, police nabbed two suspects — Sanusi Bala of Zamfara State and Nura Bala of Zaria — while trying to rob a tricycle operator in Kaduna metropolis. The duo reportedly confessed to belonging to a syndicate notorious for targeting tricycle riders.

“Police recovered three stolen Golf III Wagons, two bearing registration numbers KMC 818 AA and MKA 839 AA, while one was unregistered. The suspects confessed they had been supplying stolen tricycles to one Jamilu Zurmi in Zamfara, who is now being tracked,” he said.

In another case, on June 4, five robbery suspects invaded a residence in Ungwan Sanusi and carted away a Toyota Corolla along with other valuables. They were later arrested and identified as Ahmed Umar, Isah Musa, Zailani Sa’adu, Abdulrahman Mukhtar and Ibrahim Bala.

“The suspects confessed to selling the stolen car in Maradi, Niger Republic. Their accomplice, one Alhaji Garba Yaro, is currently on the run,” Hassan stated.

Two locally made guns and two live cartridges were recovered.

Hassan revealed that the suspects are linked to a kidnap case involving the wife of a local resident, and that investigations are ongoing.

Further, on July 11, acting on credible intelligence, operatives raided Giroji village in Makarfi where they uncovered a local gun fabrication hub. Four suspects — Hassan Ibrahim, Murtala Yakubu, Shuaibu Abubakar and Ismail Shuaibu — were arrested.

“Recovered from the workshop were three locally fabricated rifles, 14 live cartridges, five rounds of T.06 ammunition, skeletal gun frames, metal pipes and welding equipment,” he said.

The PPRO added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the officers for their resilience and urged residents to continue volunteering credible information to aid security operations.

“Our message to criminal elements remains clear: there is no hiding place. We will keep going after them until Kaduna is safe for all law-abiding citizens,” he declared.

All suspects, he said, remain in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

…CP charges personnel to be firm, professional

Ahead of Saturday’s local government elections in Lagos State, the Police have deployed air assets for surveillance and rapid response, Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh said on Friday evening.

He said the command also deployed special forces including Police Mobile Force (PMF) squadrons, Explosives Ordnance Disposal units, Special Intervention Squad (SIS), Marine Police, Eko Strike Force (ESF) and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) who would station at close radius to each polling units in case of any eventuality.

The Nation reports that over 40,000 security operatives are to be deployed in this election, including military operators, officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), federal Fire Service personnel, among other safety and security agencies.

At the command headquarters on Friday afternoon, The Nation observed several logistics vehicles conveying police and security operatives moving to their respective areas of responsibilities.

Also, Police Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and anti-riot vehicles were also seen ready for movement. There were Operation MESA vehicles carrying soldiers, just as officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) were seen in their numbers, ready to be deployed.

In an interview with reporters, CP Jimoh said, “We have already deployed air assets. Equally, marine operatives for this election. Fortunately, the police hangar is here in Lagos. They have been going round for surveillance and will be involved in this election. Also, our waterways have been properly policed. We have put measures in place for adequate security and to ensure things go well.

“There has not been any flash of incidents of violence anywhere throughout the state…We will not tolerate overzealousness and over-dramatisation from any group. Nobody will be allowed to take us into his hands.”

The CP said the restriction of vehicular movement was in the utmost public interest, adding that it would ensure that nobody conveys prohibited firearms, objects or things that could cause harm anywhere in the state.

Addressing the operatives, CP Jimoh charged them with professionalism, warning that they should not allow miscreants and hoodlums to hijack the exercise.

“We should be very professional, polite and firm. We should be strict in carrying out our responsibility. This is to ensure that there is safety everywhere across Lagos State.

“As residents go out to vote, they should go without fear or apprehension. They should not be afraid that they will be attacked or that anybody will snatch ballot boxes or cause disturbance of public peace. Is that clear?” He stressed, assuring them that their welfare would be adequately sorted out.

“You shouldn’t be afraid that your welfare will not be taken care of. No, your welfare will be taken care of properly and directly. So you go out there and make us proud,” he added.

The police boss reminded them of their roles as provided by the guidelines on election security, reiterating the need to adhere to best practices.

“This is not the first time we are coming for election duty, and this will not be the last time. This will not be an exception in giving the maximum and ultimate performance in ensuring that the election is secured, safe.

“So, I welcome you to the Lagos State Police Command. There are a lot of expectations on us as the lead agency for internal security. We have put a lot of resources into this planning for the security of the election.

“In terms of material resources, in terms of time for lectures and meetings and in terms of deployments. The Inspector General of Police equally provided us with all the equipment that we needed to ensure adequate security for this election. He gave us an additional four armoured personnel carriers to ensure we protect ourselves while deterring criminals so that we don’t suffer bodily harm.

“He has equally provided us with water cannons so that if there is any disturbance anywhere, we can promptly put it under control….

“I want you to shun any act of indiscipline, shun any act of corruption. Don’t allow anybody to embarrass you with issues of corruption. I know very well we are professional officers, we are not corrupt and we make sure that we do as is expected of us to make the Nigeria Police Force and the IGP very proud,” he concluded.

Journalist petitions police over harassment by businessman

A senior journalist, Dr. Mbonu-Amadi Osadebe Chiedozie, has petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, urging a thorough investigation into alleged threats to his life and continued harassment by a Lagos-based businessman, Kingsley Akamere.

Dr. Mbonu-Amadi, who is the Arts Editor and Deputy Chairman of the Editorial Board at Vanguard Newspapers, accused Akamere, a solar equipment dealer at Alaba International Market, of refusing to fulfill his obligation to settle his nephew, Chimobi Mbonu, after a four-year apprenticeship.

He also alleged that the businessman had launched a campaign of intimidation and defamation against both him and Chimobi, adding that he even caused the arrest of his nephew on trumped allegations.

According to the petition, Chimobi was placed in Akamere’s care in 2021 under the traditional Igbo apprenticeship system. Upon completion of his service in late 2024, instead of receiving the agreed settlement, he was allegedly evicted from Akamere’s home and attempts made to send him back to his village without explanation.

Disturbed by the development, Dr. Mbonu-Amadi said he intervened and took Chimobi into his care. However, he claimed Akamere began threatening him, boasting of having police officers, soldiers, and street thugs at his disposal to deal with him and his family.

The journalist detailed how Akamere later showed up at Vanguard’s premises, demanded that he sign an undertaking over Chimobi’s custody, and advised him to “send the boy away” and “give him N5,000” to avoid further problems.

“It was the most absurd advice I had ever received—an outsider telling me to cast away my own nephew,” he wrote.

Dr. Mbonu-Amadi further accused Akamere of launching a smear campaign against Chimobi, including circulating a public notice bearing his photograph and warning others not to transact with him, an action he described as defamatory and damaging to the young man’s efforts to make a living.

The situation escalated on June 25 when Chimobi and two other former apprentices were arrested by the police allegedly on Akamere’s instigation. They were accused of conspiring with a current apprentice to defraud the businessman of N22 million. The journalist, however, claimed that one of the accused, Favour, later sent a voice note confessing that Akamere had instructed him to fabricate the allegations, which he refused to do.
