  • Job portal makes its debut

Online enterprise solution, PushCV, has announced its plans to connect prime employees to head-hunters and employers via a new initiative, Elite Employee Quest 2015.

In partnership with top companies across Nigeria, the Elite Employee Quest 2015 initiative according to  PushCV, will give everyone equal opportunity to be part of the qualified, deserving people that PushCV would place in gainful employment positions in these top organisations in 2015.

The programme was formally announced on the 12th of February, 2015 at a Cocktail Event hosted at Melarossa, Ikoyi. The  event had in attendance top CEOs and HR professionals across Nigeria.

The programme will be seeking talents across five major employment categories: Accounting, Engineering/IT, Administration, Sales/Marketing, and Customer Service.

PushCV and their partners believe that this initiative can bridge the gap between qualified candidates and employers.

“Job seekers, even qualified ones, find it quite difficult to find the right jobs because of the overwhelming competition and lack of knowledge of how/where to send their CVs; and the employers say they have jobs available, but most of the applications they receive are not up to standard. It takes up a lot of time and money going through the piles of applications looking for qualified candidates,” said PushCV in the release announcing the programme.

  • A portal for jobs

Many people searching for jobs find it hard to get one. This has led Temitayo to establish   jobsinNigeria to provide legitimate work opportunities. Daniel Essiet reports.

A young  Lagos-based   entrepreneur,Temitayo Olufuwa, has established  Jobs In Nigeria to help tackle the nation’s astronomical youth unemployment rate. Co-founder of  Jin Innovations Ltd, Olufuwa said the   jobs portal is designed   for those with varying  levels  of  education, skills, experience, and backgrounds looking  for  employment opportunities.

Olufuwa said he started the potal  to assist Nigerians looking for legitimate jobs.  The decision  was  borne out of a frustrating experience of knowing that there  are  job opportunities.

The  other  reason  was  the  difficulties  people face in finding  job leads online–where legitimate jobs are  buried under scams, ads, and sketchy business opportunities. To tackle this, he established the site bringing  all job postings on various job sites on a  mobile optimised platform.

Instead of people visiting sites that are not mobile enabled, his organisation get all the jobs on its  platform so people  can apply directly.

To ensure  the  authenticity of job postings, the  company   look at trusted job blogs, talk to them and crawl their job postings. According to him, the web portal has grown very quickly and was an amazing learning experience. But he started  with N15,000.Today,the  business is worth N5million.

When they launched it on June 1, 2012, they were funding the  business from their little  salaries. Initially, when  the business, started,he  and his partner,Dele Bakare operated from their homes, meeting  once a week  to  sort  out  issues. At the moment, he is operating from a rented  place.

The venture  has   finally paid off.  Some   15,000 users   signed up on the platform in just two months. That number has since exploded to 200,000 thanks to support from The Tony Elumelu Foundation and African Leadership Academy.

Jobs inNigeria, according  to him,   gives job-seekers a way to find jobs quickly, easily. The success  has  given  him  a love for entrepreneurship, growing a business, helping people find jobs, and following his passions. Besides this, Olufuwa is a story  of a  youth who rose   from grass to  grace, considering his own troubling upbringing. His father left his mother and three siblings at  six, leaving them in one of the most dangerous neighbourhoods of Mushin, Lagos.

He  grew up witnessing gruesome mob lynching, gang fights and ethnic clashes.

For Olufuwa, his childhood made him stronger. Circumstances that would make many western children and families crumble brought out the best in Olufuwa.

Thriving off of his obstacles, Olufuwa managed to gain a place at the Igbobi College Yaba. This eventually led to his studying software engineering at N.I.I.T. where he met his  partner, Dele Bakare.

He has been able to network  with  other entrepreneurs, building the confidence to share his  challenges and hear about theirs.

The site prides itself as being able to provide the opportunities relevant for individuals at the low-level income group. It provides a platform for people  to receive guidance and make employers aware of the availability of skilled Nigerians.

The major challenge is that of finding the available job opportunities which their users can benefit from.  To this end, the  company  is  ready to meet the emerging and growing needs of  companies, supporting local businesses in overcoming their skills gaps. This aligns with the plan to improve   the site  for economic prosperity.

CBN unveils portal for signature verification

•Apex Bank defends N65 ATM fee

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has developed an online signature portal for banks.

The process and upload of the authorised signatories to the portal should be completed on or before August 29.

CBN Director, Banking & Payments System Department, ‘Dipo Fatoku, said the policy is in furtherance of its effort in the development of safe, reliable and efficient payments and in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, developed an industry portal for the verification of authorised signatories in the banking system.

He said in a circular to banks and other stakeholders that the portal is expected to replace the printed signature booklets that banks distribute such that instructions/documents received from other banks can be verified electronically (online).

The portal will be used by banks, registrars, insurance firms, embassies and any other user of the printed signature booklets, to avoid fabrication of letters as coming from the banks.

The portal is meant to digitise the booklet and also ensure that updates can be made quickly, as staff change functions or move to other institutions.

Fatokun said banks are to contact Nigeria Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) for the needed training and access rights to the portal, amongst others.

Also, the CBN said cash withdrawal at the ATMs of a customer’s bank is free. It said a ‘’Remote-on-us’’ transaction is when a card holder goes to the ATM machine of another bank other than his or her bank to make a withdrawal.

It explained that in 2012, the CBN, in collaboration with the Bankers’ Committee, transferred the payment of N100 fee on ‘’Remote-on-us’’ ATM cash withdrawal transactions to issuing banks adding that N100 was never removed.

The fee, it said, was only transferred to customer’s bank to pay, and this was intended to encourage/promote the use of ATMs nationwide.

However, having sufficiently raised customers awareness, the first three ‘’Remote-on-us’’ transactions in a month are free for the card holder but paid for by the issuing bank.

“The N65 charge only applies when a customer withdraws cash from another bank’s ATM other than that of his/her bank. The N65 starts to apply from the fourth transaction at another banks’ ATM in a month. The charge is not intended to discourage financial inclusion as the apex bank will not endorse any anti-customer policy,” it said. The CBN said charging of fees on interbank networks is a widely acceptable practice globally.

The CBN said the new fee will ensure customers get better services, increase healthy competition among the banks even as transaction volumes at other banks’ ATM have increased astronomically due to the free Cash withdrawal at other banks’ ATM. The wear and tear as well as the frequency of servicing the ATMs has increased significantly.

  • Fed Govt launches online portal

    Fed Govt launches online portal

Determined to enthrone transparency and make governance more effective, the Federal Government yesterday launched a government services portal www.services.gov.ng as part of the initiatives for ‘’getting government online.’’

Minister of Communications Technology, Mrs Omobola Johnson, who launched the portal in Abuja, said it was in line with the mandate to deploy ICT to drive transparency in governance and improve the quality of public service delivery.

In a statement, the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, Mrs Efem Nkanga, quoted Mrs Johnson as saying the benefits of the portal are many, adding that the portal can be assessed in English, French and Spanish.

She added that it is one of the flagship projects of the Ministry aimed at enabling Nigerians to access government services.

She said the project is in line with the outcome of the survey which the United Nations carried out on Innovative E-Government Practices among nations, adding that the result of the survey showed that citizen service delivery is topmost on the government innovative technology adoption, all over the world.

Thus, governments’ use of the Internet to deliver government services has revolutionised the speed and effectiveness of government service delivery and public administration across the world, she said.

Mrs Johnson emphasised that governments recognise that e-government offers, not just a new technology, but also a mechanism of transforming the way the government operates.

She gave examples of nations that have taken this route of creating government service portal to include the United States, Britain, Canada, India, Singapore, South Africa and Kenya.
