  • 2019: Saraki urges Christians to pray for Nigeria

    Senate President Bukola Saraki yesterday asked Christians in Nigeria to pray earnestly for a hitch-free 2019 elections. He also charged to intensify their prayers for the peace, unity and restoration of the country’s glory. Saraki noted that Nigeria was passing through a turbulent period. He said this in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital at an end of year programme he organized to felicitate with the Christian community in the state.

    The programme included the distribution of food items to Christian men and women selected from across the state. About 2000 women, widows and men benefitted from the programme which was attended by many religious leaders. The Senate president who was represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff,  Gbenga  Makanjuola, expressed gratitude for the support he has so far received from the Christian community and requested for their continued association.

    He added that “we know what is happening in Nigeria today, we need peace because that is the first thing before any other thing. We plead with our fathers and mothers to continue to pray for Nigeria, that God will restore the glory of Nigeria. By the grace of God this is the beginning of good things to come to you. The Senate president appreciates the Christian community in Kwara state. I am not here to make sweet talks but all the points you raised will be looked into and there is none of the requests that won’t be attended to,” he said.

    Pray for Nigeria, Buhari, Akeredolu urge pilgrims

    The Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has urged intending pilgrims to the 2017 Hajj in Mecca to pray for the peaceful coexistence of Nigeria.

    The governor, at a farewell ceremony for the 301 intending pilgrims, at the Babafunke Auditorium, Akure, the state capital, also asked them to seek God’s intervention for President Muhammadu Buhari’s health challenge.

    Represented by his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, the governor advised the pilgrims to conform with the rules and regulations of Saudi Arabia and shun the conducts that could bring their names and reputation of the state into disrepute.

    He said: “You must resist the temptation of carrying hard drugs or prohibited goods to the Holy land. The attributes of honesty and discipline which are enshrined in the Holy Quran must be conspicuously displayed in your performance of hajj.

    Earlier, Chairman, Ondo State Muslim Welfare Board, Alhaji Khaleel Fawehinmi, urged the intending pilgrims to pray for the state and country in general.

     

  • Pray for Nigeria, Minister urges Christians

    Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Malam Muhammad Bello, has congratulated Christian faithful across the country on the occasion of Christmas celebration.

    The minister who gave the advice in his Christmas message also urged Christians to use the occasion to reflect on the life of Jesus Christ and imbibe his teachings. He reminded Christians that the life of Jesus Christ is primarily premised on selflessness, sacrifice, patience, modesty as well as spirituality, and should be the focal point on this auspicious day.

    According to a statement issued by the Deputy Director / Chief Press Secretary, Muhammad Sule, the minister said that the celebration calls for sober reflection and spiritual rejuvenation as Jesus Christ lived his life for mankind.

    Bello urged Christians to imbibe the spirit of Christmas especially the lessons from the life and times of Jesus Christ to assist the nation move out of its present economic predicaments. His words: “As you pray for the nation, I enjoin you to also pray for its leadership, for God to continue to guide, protect and give President Muhammadu Buhari, the strength and the wisdom to steer the affairs of the nation to effectively surmount the present challenges being experienced.”

    While assuring that the FCT Administration would continue to guarantee the security of the lives and property of all residents of the Federal Capital Territory, the minister said that all security outfits in the territory are adequately prepared to be on top of any unexpected security breach during and after the festive period.

    Amosun to religious leaders: pray for Nigeria

    OGUN State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has assured that the nation’s dream towards attaining the much-desired height will be fulfilled.

    He urged religious leaders to continue praying for positive change at all levels of government.

    Amosun said this in a message at the grand finale of the 2015 Tabiorah programme of the Church of the Lord World-Wide, Aladura Ground at Ogere Remo, Ogun State.

    The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Yetunde Onanuga, noted that the ongoing change by the Federal Government and All Progressive Congress(APC) state governments were taking a positive shape.

    He added that only prayers from religious leaders/stakeholders could help political leaders achieve the required breakthrough.

    A statement by Press Officer in the Deputy Governor’s Office, Miss Damilola Koleade, said the governor acknowledged the support given to his administration since inception.

    He reiterated his government’s commitment to the provision of more infrastructural development and other people-oriented programmes that would improve the well-being of the people.

    Amosun congratulated the Primate of the Church of the Lord Worldwide, the most Rev. Rufus Ositelu, and church members on this year’s anniversary, which also coincided with its 79th evangelism.

    He urged the primate not to relent in praying for peace, tranquility and development of the country and state.

    He added that the theme of this year’s anniversary, “Divine prosperity”, was in tandem with the ongoing transformation agenda embarked upon by the President Muhammad Buhari-led administration to take the country to the promise land.

    In his exhortation, Ositelu decried the insecurity, corruption and unemployment among others  challenges facing the country.

    He called on Nigerians to join the Federal Government in tackling the menace that has become the order of the day.
