They are Abdullahi Isiaka and another identified as Abel.

The duo, it was learnt used to be members of a four-man gang including Governor and Brigadier, who have since been arrested.

They were nabbed around Ijora-Badia on Monday morning, while they were going for an operation on their motorcycle.

Unfortunately for them, policemen were raiding motorcycles flouting traffic laws in that axis, leading to their arrest and the recovery of a gun.

According to the police, Isiaka usually pleasured himself by fondling the breasts of his female victims before dispossessing them of their valuables.

He was said to have confessed that caressing the breasts of his female victims before robbing them made him very happy.

The suspects, it was gathered, are currently in the custody of operatives of the Federal Anti-Robbery Sqaud ( FSARS), where they disclosed their mode of operation.

It was learnt that they usually slept near the railway and during work rush hours, waylay their victims, mostly lone walkers, who they trap in their midst.

He said: “They target lone figures, put the person in their middle and rob the person. Once they get a victim, Brigadier would bring out gun and order the victim to cooperate with them.

“Isiaka targets women. Once they catch a female victim, Isiaka would start caressing her breasts. He said that caressing breasts before robbing the person used to make him feel happy.”

According to the source, Isiaka confessed that the gang once robbed a victim who had dollars, adding that he used his share of the loot to buy a motorcycle, which they used for easy escape.

“He said he used his share of the money to buy motorcycle and after that,  he started his own operation with Abel. He said they usually robbed at Ebute-Metta, Apapa, Wharf and Ikeja and that he handles the gun,” said the police source.

Oshodi hoodlums assault Lagos Taskforce official

A War Against Indiscipline (WAI) official attached to the Lagos State Taskforce on Environment, Oseni Rilwan was on Monday assaulted by some hoodlums in Oshodi.

Rilwan who was among the team that went to enforce the Lagos Traffic Law under the bridge at Oshodi, had two of his fingers chopped off by angry commercial drivers and touts.

He was also stabbed on the head with blood gushing all over his body. Trouble started after men of the Taskforce impounded six commercial buses and arrested some drivers who allegedly obstructed traffic and caused spill over on the busy road.

Angered by this development, the hoodlums were said to have stoned members of the Taskforce with broken bottles, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

It was in the process that Rilwan got injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
Confirming the development, the police command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, an SP, warned motorists to comply with the traffic laws or face the full wrath of the law.

Similarly, the public affairs officer for the Taskforce, Adebayo Taofiq said the newly constituted mobile court was set to deal with spate of traffic and environmental abuses.

“Offences such as commercial motorcyclists riding against traffic, refusal to obey traffic signs; commercial bus drivers (Danfo) who operate on motion with their doors open among others will be tried by the mobile court.

“It is expected that bus conductors should always make sure that doors of their commercial bus is closed whenever their vehicle is on motion and must only stop at designated bus-stop. Motorcycle riders should not ride against traffic or ride their motorcycles on restricted routes across the state.

“The step taken by the government would bring sanity to the system and does not exclude private vehicle owners who constantly disobey traffic Laws,” he said.

Taofiq also said that the Taskforce last week impounded 24 vehicles that flaunted the traffic rules and their owners paid fines.

“297 motocycles were impounded. 390 miscreants were arrested and 43 screened out, while the remaining 347 were charged to court,” he said.

  • Chaos as woman slumps at MTN office

A woman slumped yesterday when a huge crowd gathered at the MTN office on Fatai Atere Way in Matori, Mushin, Lagos for sim card registration.

There was a melee when some MTN staff allowed their friends and family members to jump the queue to go inside.

For about 20 minutes, numbers were not issued to the customers, as they insisted that they must all be attended to, unless those smuggled in were ordered out.

Angry customers, who said they had been on the premises since morning, laid siege to the entrance and rebuffed all entreaties for amicable resolution of the matter.

The woman was revived by the crowd and MTN officials hurriedly took her inside for the exercise.

The woman left after completing the re-registration process.

Some customers condemned MTN for what they called its inefficiency, complaining that they have been coming to the office for the past three days, without being attended to. They wondered why the network provider was putting them through such stress.

“I have done MTN Sim registration three times now. After doing it, they will still send sms that I should come for revalidation or data capturing,” a subscriber said.

A woman said: “I have been going from one MTN office to the other since Monday but it is the same story. You see so many people and everyone has the same complaint.

“What is paining me is that I spent almost my entire yesterday (Wednesday) here and I have been around today (yesterday) since 10am. I collected my number outside and sat down like others.  But before we knew it, MTN officials started coming out to bring in their friends and girlfriends.

“One guy came out and selected three people. And all the three of them just got here.”

A middle-age man wondered how MTN allowed people to queue in the sun only for them to come out and attend to their cronies?

He said: “Do they have two heads? I saw them take one Alhaji inside and one other slim lady. We have been complaining since. Even the security guy outside told them that what they were doing was wrong but they did not listen”.

“Now that we have all entered, we won’t go out until they attend to us or they send everybody out,” said a male subscriber amid support from others.

A senior management staff intervened, scolding the employees who caused the confusion.

He appealed to the customers to go outside to create space for those inside to be attended to, saying that disciplinary actions will be taken against the erring workers.

“We forge Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) waybills, invoices of major oil marketers and stickers of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas workers (NUPENG), to deceive security agents.”

Those were the words of suspected vandals arrested by the Inspector General of Police Taskforce on pipeline vandalism.

Among the four suspects paraded at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters annex, Lagos, were Ganiyu Oresanya ( 38),  Mutiu Bello also known as Omo Oja, and one Damilare, who had fake copies of Oando, Conoil  and MRS’ invoices, as well as fabricated NNPC waybill in their possession.

They were reportedly arrested in Ikorodu following intelligence report that they were carrying out operations in Shagamu and Ikorodu.

The suspects were caught while on their way to Ondo State to sell petroleum products they siphoned from NNPC pipelines in Shagamu and Ikorodu.

Oresanya, who acknowledged that he has been in the business of vandalism for sometime, said he was in charge of forging the relevant documents.

“We make sure that we do the background work of covering our loading with fake NNPC documents and fake invoice from oil marketing companies so that we would not be caught.

“I have been in the business for a long time. I am a printer and I print these documents myself. I did not know we would be caught because we are very careful in our jobs by backing the stolen products with all necessary documents.

“I supply all the fake documents, while Mutiu Bello produces the tanker that comes to carry the products from the pipeline.

“Damilare is the one who load the products. He is our boss,” he said.

For Bello, who claimed he was contracted to load the products into another truck, said he was not aware the products were stolen.

He claimed that one Temidayo invited him and he was offered N70, 000 for the job.

“This is my first time and I was promised N70,000. It was one Temidayo who called me for the job. They didn’t tell me that it was stolen oil.

“They said I was going to trans-load products from jerry cans at that area. They told me they are into black market operation but when I got there, I saw plenty Jerry cans,” he claimed.

Addressing reporters, the Taskforce’s Sector Commander, Solomon Ubani, said the Force has recorded major breakthroughs recently following improved intelligence.

“We have made breakthrough in the past few days. We have rejiged our intelligence for some time now and it is yielding results.

“These hoodlums have continued to break our pipelines and sabotage the efforts of the Federal government,” Ubani stated.

  • 537 truck drivers prosecuted for recklessness, says FRSC

537 truck drivers prosecuted for recklessness, says FRSC

In line with its drive to instill caution among highway drivers, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) yesterday said 537 heavy duty vehicle drivers have been arrested and prosecuted for reckless driving.

The traffic offenders who comprise tanker and trailer drivers were said to have been nabbed along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway between July 27 and 31, in the course of a special patrol code named “Operation Scorpion”.

‎Reviewing the operation, FRSC Zonal Commander, Assistant Corps Marshal Nseobong Akpabio said the exercise spanned across 139 kilometres, the patrol covered Ojota-Ikorodu road interchange and continued through Iwo Road in Ibadan.

‎He said the operation, which was the first phase of the exercise, was designed to focus on heavy duty vehicle drivers because their driving habit was worrisome.

“The recent death, pain and suffering brought on Nigerians resulting from havocs caused by falling tankers laden with fuel and unsecured container carrying trucks have become an embarrassment to the nation, hence the need to address it squarely.

“So 537 drivers were apprehended based on the designed objectives of ‘Operation Scorpion’ Special patrol which was to optimally deploy the human and material resources available to the corps to ensure compliance to traffic rules.

“These drivers who have been dubbed by many Nigerians as “killers on the way” were all prosecuted at various mobile courts in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo States.

“They were arrested for violation of various traffic offences such as trucks moving with unsecured containers, lane indiscipline, rickety vehicles, over loading, driving with worn out tyres and driver’s license violation.

“Personnel of the Corps were drawn from all FRSC formations along the corridor from Lagos Sector command headquarters to Ojota Unit Command, Lagos; Mowe, Sagamu, Ogere and Ogunmakin Unit Commands all in Ogun State and finally FRSC operatives from Oyo State coordinated by the Sector Commander Oyo with operation base on Oluyoye Unit Command.

“The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive Boboye Oyeyemi who led the National Headquarters team also participated in the exercise from Lagos to Ibadan,” said Akpabio.

Continuing, Akpabio said the operation would be extended to other routes across the country in order to complement the gains recorded, so as to attain the United Nations’ Decade of Action for Road Safety principle 2011 – 2020 in reduction of road transportation crashes
