“By working closely with educational authorities and the Kwara State government, we aim to develop a comprehensive curriculum that includes Nigerian history, government structures, civic duties, and national values,” Abiola stated.

“A pilot program will be introduced in select schools, with the vision to expand it to all state-owned institutions.”

Presidency debunks Bloomberg’s report of Nigeria’s debt payment delays

The presidency has debunked a report by Bloomberg claiming the country had delayed coupon payments on its savings bonds, affirming that all financial obligations are being met on schedule.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his verified X handle, @aonanuga1956, described the report as incorrect.

According to Onanuga, finance minister, Wale Edun, confirmed that Nigeria has sufficient liquidity to meet all its obligations and does not owe anyone at the moment.

He said Edun affirmed that the country has enough funds to meet its financial commitments, with no outstanding payments.

He said Edun’s position was corroborated by Patience Oniha, Director General of the Debt Management Office (DMO).

Oniha said the Central Bank of Nigeria had processed all due payments as of September 19, with the payment due September 20 also being processed.

“Bloomberg is not correct with this report. Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, says that Nigeria does not owe anyone at the moment.

“We have enough liquidity to meet all our obligations. We do not have any outstanding payments.

“Director General of the Debt Management Office, Patience Oniha, also confirms that, as of September 19, the Central Bank of Nigeria has processed all due payments.

“The payment due today, September 20, is also being processed for payment”, Onanuga said.

Bloomberg’s report alleged that Nigerian authorities had failed to make timely coupon payments on two savings bonds, citing “system and processing issues” as the cause for the delay.

Bloomberg’s article claimed this was the second such delay in two months, involving coupon payments on two- and three-year debt sold in June, totaling ₦4.2 billion ($2.56 million).

$550m Ubeta upstream gas project kicks off – Presidency

The Presidency has announced the take-off of the 550 million US Dollar upstream gas project between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (NNPCL) and TotalEnergies on development of Ubeta field.

Special Adviser (SA) to President Bola Tinubu on Energy, Olu Verheijen disclosed this at an inaugural US-Nigeria Strategic Energy Dialogue, hosted by the US State Department, in Washington, DC.

Speaking at a luncheon organised as part of the inaugural dialogue, Verheijen said the upstream gas project would deliver 350 million standard cubic feet of gas per day when operational.

A statement on the event signed by Morenike Adewunmi, Stakeholder Manager, Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Energy,
was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.

Verheijen told the gathering that major energy reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu since June 2023 focused on improving energy security, attracting investments and deepening collaboration with key partners including the the US government.

She said the key reforms had improved the viability of the gas-to-power value chain of the country

The reforms according to her, included initiatives to improve cash flows in electricity distribution through smart metering and the payment of outstanding debts owed investors, and to reduce carbon emissions from gas production.

She added that, to support the reform efforts, the President issued five new executive orders aimed at providing fiscal incentives for investment.and reducing the cost and time of finalising and implementing contracts to develop and expand gas infrastructure.

The presidential aide said the directives also aimed to immediately unlock up to 2.5 billion dollard in new oil and gas investments in the country.

She acknowledged the support of financing and technical partners like the US government, the World Bank and the African Development Bank towards expanding electricity access and reliability through grid and off-grid solutions.

Verheijen affirmed her optimism about the bright prospects for Nigeria’s energy sector, especially with the renewed focus on gas as a transition fuel in the race to meet the country’s commitments to the Paris climate agreement.

“We see resilient demand for gas through the energy transition as it is a readily available, cost-effective backup to renewables while cutting emissions by half immediately,” she said.

Speaking on the Dialogue, Verheijen recalled it was established in June 2023 to create a platform for the US and Nigerian governments and private sector to deepen bilateral cooperation and advance the implementation of shared energy and climate action ambitions.

“Nigeria seeks to create a robust regulatory framework and attract new investments for the production of gas for power, transportation and clean cooking.

“I cannot overstate the importance of our longstanding relationship with the US and this inaugural dialogue.

“The goal of this dialogue for us to jointly proffer solutions that will close the energy access gap for close to 100 million Nigerians who still lack reliable power.

“We want existing and potential partners to better understand our areas of priority so that our collaboration can be better targeted, and with tangible outcomes,” she said..

On his part, Geoffrey Pyatt, US Assistant Secretary of the State Department’s Bureau of Energy Resources said the dialogue was apt and strategic.

“The inaugural U.S.-Nigeria Strategic Energy Dialogue has set the stage for strengthened energy collaboration between the United States and Nigeria.

The Nigerian delegation to the event was led by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas)  Ekperikpe Ekpo.

Officials from the Ministry of Power, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NNPC Limited, were also in attendance.

The US delegation included representatives from the Bureau of African Affairs, USAID, the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), and the Export-Import Bank

  • Presidency exposes Chinese Company’s failed attempts to strip Nigeria’s assets abroad

Presidency exposes Chinese Company’s failed attempts to strip Nigeria’s assets abroad

The Presidency has addressed the claims made by Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited regarding attempts to take over offshore assets of the federal government of Nigeria.

In a statement released on Thursday, August 15, Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, confirmed that the federal government was aware of the attempts by the Chinese company and firmly denied any contractual obligations with them.

According to Onanuga, the dispute involving Zhongshan Fucheng is primarily between the company and the Ogun state government, not the federal government.

He emphasised that the federal government has no contractual ties with Zhongshan, and any claims made by the company concerning offshore assets are unfounded.

Onanuga’s statement highlighted that Zhongshan Fucheng is attempting to use unorthodox means to gain control over Nigerian assets.

He said: “The ongoing issue centres around a 2007 contract between Zhongshan and Ogun State, which involved the management of a free-trade zone. However, the contract was revoked in 2015, and Zhongshan had only completed the construction of a perimeter fence on the land designated for the free-trade zone. Despite the revocation, Zhongshan has sought restitution from the Ogun state government.

Onanuga asserted that the company has no legitimate grounds for such demands, given the status of the contract and the limited progress made by Zhongshan before its termination.

The statement read: “The Presidency is aware of the various failed attempts by a Chinese company, Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited, to take over offshore assets of the Federal Government of Nigeria through subterfuge.

“The federal government is not under any contractual obligation with the company. The case in which Zhongshan is trying to use every unorthodox means to strip our offshore assets is between the company and the Ogun State Government.

“The Federal Government is fully aware of efforts being made by the Ogun State Government to reach an amicable resolution on the matter.

“It must be said without any equivocation that Zhongshan has no solid ground to demand restitution from the Ogun State Government based on the facts regarding the 2007 contract between the company and the State Government to manage a free-trade zone.

“When the contract with Ogun State was revoked in 2015, the company had only erected a perimeter fence on the land earmarked for a free trade zone.

“While the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice is working with the Ogun State Government on an amicable resolution, Zhongshan obtained two orders from the Judicial Court of Paris dated March 7, 2024, and August 12, 2024, without any notice being duly served on the Federal Government of Nigeria and Ogun State Government.

“This arm-twisting tactic by the Chinese company is the latest in a long list of failed moves to attach Nigerian government-owned assets in foreign jurisdictions.

“The material facts in the transaction between the Ogun State Government and Zhongshan point to another P&ID case in which unscrupulous and questionable individuals falsely present themselves as investors with the sole objective of undercutting and scamming Governments in Africa.

“Undoubtedly, Zhongshan withheld vital information and misled the Judicial Court in Paris into attaching the Nigerian government’s presidential jets, which are on routine maintenance in France. The use and nature of the Presidential jets as assets of a Sovereign entity whose assets are protected by diplomatic immunity forbid any foreign Court from issuing an order against them.

“We are convinced the Chinese company misled the Judicial Court of Paris regarding the use and nature of the assets it seeks to attach and did not fully disclose to the court as required by law. This same Chinese company had tried to enforce its questionable judgment in the UK and USA but failed.

“Like the P&ID case, foreign companies are trying to defraud Nigeria with the collaboration of some bureaucrats. Zhongshan appeared to have sold the judgment they got to a venture capitalist seeking to make money by embarrassing the Federal Government and President Bola Tinubu.

“We want to assure Nigerians that the Federal Government is working with the Ogun State Government to discharge this frivolous order in Paris immediately.

“Nigerian Government will always work to protect our national assets from predators and shylocks who masquerade as investors.

Background to the Zhongshan Fucheng Case:

“A contract between Ogun State and Zhongshan to manage a free-trade zone was executed in 2007. The parties entered into a dispute in 2015, and arbitration began in 2016.

It further stated: “By 2019, the arbitration hearing had been concluded. The Arbitral Panel awarded over 60 million USD against the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), a co-defendant, when all Zhongshan had done was build a perimeter fence around the free-trade zone.

“Based on legal advice, the Ogun State Government resolved to resist the enforcement of the award. The resistance was successful in 8 different jurisdictions. There are pending appeals against recognition orders issued in both the US and UK.

“Ogun State also engaged Zhongshan in settlement discussions on reasonable terms. The last meeting, held in September 2023 in London, lasted for three days and was attended by several officials of Ogun State, including Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Attorney General/Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi.

“Zhongshan’s initial reasonable readiness to consider Ogun State’s offer was surprisingly reversed by the second day when it insisted on the government paying the full arbitration debt. This led to a breakdown of the mediation, with parties agreeing to meet again in the first quarter of this year.

“Since then, Zhongshan has been evasive. Instead, it embarked on a series of enforcement proceedings, which the legal team appointed by the FGN and Ogun State successfully opposed. In cases similar to the present one, where Zhongshan obtained an ex-parte order, Ogun State successfully set aside the orders.

“Ogun State has not given up on a reasonable settlement option, with the most recent letter sent to Zhongshan last week. Zhongshan only responded after obtaining this latest illegal order.”

₦573bn payment controversy: It’s a loan, not a grant, Presidency clarifies

    • …says loan guaranteed by fed govt

The Presidency has addressed the controversy surrounding the ₦573 billion payment to state governments, clarifying that it is a loan from the World Bank, not a grant.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, explained that the loan is part of the Covid-19 livelihoods support scheme under the NG-CARES Programme funded by the World Bank.

Ajayi’s clarification comes after some governors denied receiving federal government’s grant, sparking controversy over the payment.

Ajayi emphasised that the federal government guarantees the loan, which means it will be responsible for repayment if the states are unable to pay.

The Presidency’s statement comes after some governors denied receiving a grant from the federal government, sparking a debate over the nature of the payment.

Ajayi stressed that the focus should be on the positive impact of the funding on the lives of citizens, rather than the semantics of whether it is a loan or grant.

The Presidency assured that President Tinubu will continue to work with governors as partners in nation-building, expanding the economy, and enabling shared prosperity for all Nigerians.

The payment is expected to support state governments in meeting their financial obligations and implementing development projects.

“They are not denying. They are saying it is not a grant, a dash from federal government. That it is a loan from World Bank

“I think the issue is not whether it is a loan or grant. The point, as clearly stated in the President’s broadcast is that the states got money and the amount, which is the second tranche under the Covid-19 livelihoods support scheme under the NG-CARES Programme funded by the World Bank, is N570 billion.

“The fact of the matter is states are getting needed support and funding to improve the lives of the people. Meanwhile the World Bank facility is guaranteed by the federal government because every multilateral loans must have Sovereign guarantee which means the loan will be paid by the FG in case the sub-nationals are unable to pay.

“There should be no hue and cry by any governor really if the objective is to serve the people and make life better for the masses. The President is elected to make life better for citizens same way the governors are elected to do same in their respective states.

“President Tinubu will continue to work to expand the economy and enable shared prosperity for all Nigerians. He considers the Governors as partners in progress and in the job of nation-building.

“What can’t be denied is that the states have more resources to deliver better service to the people, especially in critical areas of education, healthcare, security and physical infrastructure like roads among others”, Ajayi said.

The Presidential spokesman described the issue as more than just semantics, explaining that the payment was the second tranche, with the first tranche paid in October or November last year.

“I think the issue here is one or two governors trying to reduce the matter to semantics. It is much more than that. The fact remains that the federal government paid the states the money and the N573 billion is actually the second tranche. The first tranche was paid sometimes in October or November last year”, he said.

  • Presidency launches Abuja Citizens Assembly

    Presidency launches Abuja Citizens Assembly

To bridge the gap between the federal  government and local communities in the country, the Presidency has launched the Citizens Assembly for the Abuja area.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), Abiodun Esseit, speaking at the launch at the State House, decried a concerning gap between the federal government and local communities in Nigeria.

The presidential aide cited a March 2024 survey conducted across the North Central region, including Abuja, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau states.

According to her, the findings paint a stark picture of disconnection.

She said: “Community engagement plays a crucial role in building trust between the Federal Government and its citizens. It establishes a direct connection, ensuring that the voices of the people are heard and considered in the corridors of power.

“To gain a clearer insight into the challenges facing our grassroots, we conducted a survey in March 2024, involving 166 respondents from the North Central region, including Abuja, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau states.

“The findings revealed a significant disconnect between the Federal Government and local communities. For instance:48.2% of participants perceive a lack of engagement from the Federal Government.78.3% feel unrepresented in the government’s policies and decision-making processes.

“62.1% consider community engagement organizations effective. “68.7% believe the government does not consult with local communities before implementing projects.

“However, nearly 90% believe that co-creation can lead to more sustainable and contextually relevant solutions. These findings clearly indicate a substantial gap in trust and communication between the federal government and local communities, a gap stemming from unfulfilled promises by successive governments over the past 25 years since the return to democratic rule.”

To address this gap, the presidential aide noted that President Bola Tinubu appointed six Senior Special Assistants on Community Engagement across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones in September 2023.

She said this move is part of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve governance through strategic citizen engagement.

She said the Citizens’ Assembly initiative, launched by the presidential aide’s office, seeks to bridge this disconnect.

According to her, it provides a platform for residents to express thoughts, share ideas, and collaborate on solutions to community problems. She said the assembly will be replicated across the North Central states following its FCT launch.

“Nearly a thousand volunteers from the region applied to participate in this grassroots engagement effort. Selected individuals will represent at least one ward across the six North Central states and the FCT, serving as agents of change within their communities,”she added .

The presidential aide emphasized the crucial role of community engagement in building trust between the government and citizens.

She called on other government appointees and elected leaders to replicate this model in their respective jurisdictions to foster national prosperity.

  • Obi’s supporters behind planned protests, says Presidency

Obi’s supporters behind planned protests, says Presidency

The Presidency has unmasked the masterminds of a planned nationwide protests against the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, identifying them as supporters of presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, Peter Obi.

It, however, urged security agents to interrogate the “agents of destabilisation” behind the demonstrations.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a lengthy post on his verified X handle, @aonanuga1956, revealed that the same individuals who hijacked the 2020 ENDSARS protests are behind the planned demonstrations, spreading hashtags like ‘EndBadGovernance’ and ‘Tinubu Must Go.’

Onanuga, who described these masterminds as “anarchists” and “bad losers” who cannot wait for the 2027 elections, instead seeking to destabilize Nigeria through a “civilian coup, also called that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Obi, should be held responsible if the protests turn into anarchy.

The Presidency identified several key figures, including a faceless internet radio station owner and a Labour Party chief, as being involved in the planned protests.

Onanuga warned that the protesters’ calls for “revolution” and “ending an elected government” amount to high treason and urged security agencies to take action against those threatening the country’s stability.

The post he tagged “REVEALED: Peter Obi’s supporters are the people planning mayhem in Nigeria: Obi should be held responsible for anarchy”, recalled how a similar call for protest in 2020 was hijacked by other elements, leaving the nation’s economic hub, Lagos State, reeling in massive destruction and looting of public and private property.

“Don’t be fooled: the malcontents planning to stage nationwide protests are supporters of Peter Obi, the failed presidential candidate of the Labour Party. And he should be held responsible for whatever crisis emanates from the action.

“The protest planners are also the same people who were instigated by IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to launch the destructive ENDSARS protest in Nigeria in October 2020. ENDSARS began as a genuine protest by youths against the Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, notorious for its high-handedness.

“IPOB members planning to extricate the South East region from Nigeria infiltrated the protest and hijacked it for their own agenda. Lagos still bears the scar of the malicious destruction by IPOB elements until today.

“Two years after ENDSARS, the IPOB and the gullible innocents joined the Labour Party in 2022 to support Peter Obi, a sympathiser of their cause.

“They are the people spreading the hashtags ‘EndBadGovernance’, ‘Tinubu Must Go,’ and ‘Revolution2024’. They are not democrats but anarchists. They are attempting to call out our people via propaganda because their Messiah, Peter Obi, failed to win the Presidency in the 2023 election.

“As bad losers, they don’t have the patience to wait for another election in 2027; they would rather destabilise Nigeria by staging a civilian coup against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“If they understand the meaning of their hashtags, they will realise they are clarion calls for treason. Wanting to end an elected government is high treason. Wanting revolution is a call for a coup d’etat, which is also high treason.

“I have been on the trail of one of the protest planners, who is nameless but claims to have an internet radio station, PTM100.88 Abuja. The anonymous person joined X in August 2022 and has 520 followers today, among whom are FS Yusuf, another rabid Obi supporter, and Professor Pat Utomi, a Labour Party chief and a guy on X who goes by the pseudonym Peter Obi’s First Son. PTM’s profile image has someone holding the inscription` Certificate Forger Not My President, ‘ with a photo of Peter Obi as an inset. Only Obi’s supporters will be talking about certificate forgery long after the Supreme Court dismissed the allegation.

“In the past 24 hours, this faceless X user has been whipping up the gullible to join the protest being planned and also posting the activities of his Messiah, Peter Obi. He retweets Peter Obi often.

In one of the posts, a video shows a teenager, who is said to be in the North, printing T-shirts emblazoned with “EndBadGovernance in Nigeria 2024′.

“There is also a retweeted post by Babatunde Gbadamosi, a failed and frustrated politician in Lagos. In it, he refers to his earlier post urging people “ to identify APC members, sponsors, supporters, enablers, thugs, promoters, and appointees.” The police and DSS ought to have arrested the man for making a brazen threat to political opponents”, Onanuga said.

The presidential spokesman emphasised that every country faces economic challenges, but civilized nations address leadership concerns through elections, not violent protests.

He further highlighted the government’s efforts to address the cost of living crisis, including a over 100% increase in minimum wage, student loans, and palliatives such as food distribution.

He also noted improvements in the economy, including reduced inflation, increased revenue generation, and a booming stock market.

The Presidency, however, urged citizens to consider these efforts before joining protests, and warned that those calling for demonstrations should wait until the 2027 elections to effect leadership change.

“Security agents should, by now, begin to interrogate these agents of destabilisation. There is no country in the world where people are not going through some economic challenges and where the cost of living is not a major issue.

“No country is immune from economic turbulence at the moment. Civilised and democratic people wait for another election to make leadership changes. They don’t trigger mayhem in their countries by staging protests, the end of which nobody can predict.

“Nigerian citizens must consider the government’s attitude and concern about the cost of living crisis when deciding whether to join the protests by the Labour Party and IPOB supporters.

“The Tinubu government has not been found wanting in this regard. The minimum wage has been increased by more than 100 percent. Loans are being disbursed to students in tertiary schools.

“A credit corporation has been launched to promote consumption credit. Palliatives, including the latest distribution of 740 trucks of rice to the 36 states and Abuja, are being rolled out. Businesses, such as pharmaceuticals, are being assisted. The Federal and state governments are investing heavily in agriculture to produce more food.

“The economy is improving, inflation is slowing, the national debt has been reduced in dollar terms, and the FIRS has increased revenue generation to record levels. Investors are coming back to our country. Our stock market is the best in the world, with a 33 percent return on investment.

“President Tinubu has a four-year mandate to run his agenda. Those calling for protest should wait till 2027 to either re-elect him or elect their Messiah, Mr Peter Obi,” he said.

Leaked fiscal policy documents unapproved, unofficial – Presidency

The Presidency has cautioned the public and the media against the use of two fiscal policy documents circulating on social media platforms, describing them as unofficial and subject to review.

The documents titled: “Inflation Reduction and Price Stability (Fiscal Policy Measure etc) Order 2024” and “Accelerated Stabilisation and Advancement Plan (ASAP)” are said to contain proposals on economic policy, including customs tariffs and fuel subsidy.

However in a statemen on Thursday by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency clarified that none of the documents has been approved or finalised, reminding all that policymaking is an iterative process involving multiple drafts and discussions.

The Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, assured that the official position on the documents will be made available after comprehensive reviews and approvals are completed.

Quoting Edun, on the documents, the statement said: “It is important to understand that policymaking is an iterative process involving multiple drafts and discussions before any document is finalised.

“We assure the public that the official position on the documents will be made available after comprehensive reviews and approvals are completed.”

Emanating from the two documents have been reports second-guessing government’s policy on customs tariffs, fuel subsidy and other economic matters.

“The government wants to restate that its position on fuel subsidy has not changed from what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared on 29 May 2023. The fuel subsidy regime has ended. There is no N5.4 trillion being provisioned for it in 2024, as being widely speculated and discussed,” Edun stated.

The Coordinating Minister of the Economy further clarified: “As previously stated by government officials, including myself, President Tinubu announced the end of the fuel subsidy program last year, and this policy remains firmly in place.

“The Federal Government is committed to mitigating the effects of this removal and easing the cost of living pressures on Nigerians.

“Our strategy focuses on addressing key factors such as food inflation, which is significantly impacted by transport costs. With the implementation of our CNG initiative, which aims to displace high PMS and AGO costs, we expect to further reduce these costs.

“Our commitment to ending unproductive subsidies is steadfast, as is our dedication to supporting our most vulnerable populations”.

The Presidency urged the media to exercise restraint and verify documents through official channels to ensure accurate information and avoid misleading the public.

  • Sub-regional interests behind insecurity in North, says Presidency

Sub-regional interests behind insecurity in North, says Presidency

    • No cabal can hijack of Tinubu’s government

Sub-regional forces are behind the escalating  insecurity in parts of the North, the Presidency said yesterday.

Such elements aim to destabilize the country, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, said during a Sunday Politics chat on Television Continental (TVC).

He however foreclosed the possibility of a cabal hijacking the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ngelale responded to questions on the state of the economy, the effects of the activities of past government officials, the security and the multifaceted efforts of the Tinubu administration to reverse the course.

On the possibility of powerful individuals in the current administration, wielding the sort of influence that might allow them to mismanage and abuse public office, the effect of which might linger after the administration, Ngelale said “President Tinubu is not that sort of leader, explaining that the he (Tinubu) has not left room for such influence by any official to hijack his government”.

He added: “The good fortune we have is that we elected, not just a professional accountant, a professional auditor, but we elected a man who fully understands the governance mechanisms, not just at the federal level, but at sub-national level.

“I think this is a man who anyone working in the office of the President would tell you, there is not one individual in the Presidency that has a monopoly over what the President sees, hears and reads. Nobody has that kind of power in the office of this President and that’s intentional.

“He is someone who everyone has access to, everyone who needs to have access to him, has access to him. He has direct communications on a frequent basis with the heads of intelligence agencies, anti-graft agencies, and the like.

“So, there is not going to be the potential there for anyone to form a cabal around this President because he’s aware of the dynamics of what has happened in the past and he is determined to ensure that that is not replicated under his watch.

“I will also add the fact that in the person of the current CBN Governor Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, this is a man who is reputed around the world as being a prudent manager of men and resources. This is someone who has a reputation, even within the government, of being tight fisted and that is by the intention of President Bola Tinubu to have someone like that in place.

“I would also add that when you look at organizational structures that lead to Governor Emefiele, … put him in the position that he currently is in, the President has taken a comprehensive review of that structure and he has said, even by legislation, that we are going to ensure that not only guardrails are put in place, but that legislative changes be enacted in such a way that this can never happen again.

“He’s determined to do it, Nigerians will watch him do it and that will mean that moving forward, the kind of elite conspiracy we saw between CBN officials, high ranking government officials and high ranking members of the private sector, they’re not going to be able to conspire amongst themselves to find loopholes within the system because we have a president who’s an auditor and accountant, who will close those loopholes, just the way he did in Lagos State many years ago.”

On the security situation in the North, the special adviser said: “There are some sub-regional and geopolitical forces working against the stability of the country, he however noted that the government will continue working on finding solutions through collaborations”.

Given insight into the efforts being made to ensure peace and stability in all parts of the country, he said those behind insecurity, through sub-regional conspiracies, would be made to face the wrath of the law.

He said: “First of all, the President has been very clear that this is an administration of no excuses. If you look at other parts of the countries that were in flames before he took office, such as the Southeast and parts of the Southwest for example, you will know the level of work that has gone into securing our nation.

“Where we still have some challenges is in the north central in the northwest and to a lesser extent in the Northeast. There’s still a lot of work to be done along the Kaduna axis. Remember the time when you could not travel by road on the Abuja-Kaduna highway? Now, you’re able to do that.

“Now the problem is when you have these far-flung communities, we do have these hit-and-run incidences of not just violence and killings, but obviously kidnappings and hostage-taking.

“But I will say this, across the North, we understand that some of the sub-regional forces, sub-regional, geopolitical forces that are currently at play are actively conspiring against the stability of the Nigerian nation.

“We understand that and we are not sleeping on that. We are responding to it, and we’re doing it in a way that is concerned with our neighbors and it is worth noting that the United States (U.S.) government has also pledged its assistance to ensure that there is a full return of all of the school children who are kidnapped recently in Kaduna.

“But the point is, we are going to continue to intensify our collaboration, not just within the region, but internationally to make sure that some of the regional actors that are conspiring against our nation are brought to justice ultimately silenced in the future of our country”, he said.

Ngelale also confirmed that much awaited student loan scheme would be launched by President Tinubu on Thursday.

He said: “Later this week – on Thursday, the President will launch the historic National Student Loan Programme.”

Sub-regional interests behind insecurity in North, says Presidency
