    President Federation Cup:  El Kanemi, Pillars, others  hit semi finals

    Kebbi United and El Kanemi Warriors continued to march on with their impressive performances in the ongoing President’s Federation Cup following their qualification for the semi-final of the competition yesterday.

    Abia Warriors and Kano Pillars also picked the remaining two spots to the semi-final to ensure that only two Nigeria Premier Football League teams are remaining in this edition of the club competition.

    In Kano, EFCC FC were sent packing by more businesslike Kebbi United 4-3 on penalties after the game had ended goalless at the end of the regulation time.

    At Bwari in Abuja, El Kanemi Warriors beat Inter Lagos 2-1 to zoom to the semi -final while Abia Warriors stopped Sokoto United 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes to hit the semi-final for the first time in their history.

    Sokoto United had eliminated Enyimba 1-0 in the earlier round but Abia Warriors proved undaunted and held their nerves in the penalty shootout to cruise to the last four.

    Also in Abuja, Kano Pillars defeated Sunshine Stars 5-4 on penalties after the game had ended in a 1-1 draw at regulation time.

    In the last four, Kebbi United will face El Kanemi Warriors while Kano Pillars will strive to qualify for the final again for the first time since 2019 when they slug it out with Abia Warriors in the other semi-final clash.

    President Federation Cup: One  more NPFL team to bite the dust

    Only two clubs from the country’s elite division can reach the semi-finals of this year’s President Federation Cup competition, with two of the surviving trio, Sunshine Stars and Kano Pillars, going headlong against each other in one of the quarter-final duels scheduled for the Federal Capital, Abuja on Wednesday.

    The venue to be is Area 3 Stadium, where one of the NPFL teams must bite the dust, paving way for the other to progress to the last four.

    The other NPFL side, Abia Warriors, are up against giant-killers Sokoto United at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project field inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium Complex. Sokoto United eliminated two-time CAF Champions League winners Enyimba FC in the Round of 16.

    El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri will confront surprise packets Inter Lagos at the FCT-Bwari ground, while two surprise qualifiers, EFFC FC and Kebbi United tango at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

    Big teams face elimination in President Federation Cup

    A number of teams in the top-tier Nigeria Premier Football League countenance exit from this year’s President Federation Cup as the Round of 32 matches hold across the country today  and tomorrow.

    Former champions Lobi Stars and Shooting Stars battle in Awka while holders Bendel Insurance are up in arms against Wikki Tourists of Bauchi in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as Plateau United and Sunshine Stars test might also in Abuja.

    Katsina United square up to Bayelsa United in Abuja as well, while CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finalists Rivers United throw their weight up against Niger Tornadoes.

    Giant-killers Hammola FC and Inter Lagos are at each other’s jugular in Ibadan, while former CAF Champions League winners Enyimba must guard their loins against free-scoring FC One Rocket in Yenagoa, and Enugu is the battleground for the confrontation between Warri Wolves and Kwara United.
