    PAAU gets new vice chancellor

    Prof.  Salisu Ogbo Usman has been appointed vice chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba.

    He relinquishes his position as the rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, following his  appointment by the state governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

    Ogbo is a seasoned academia and administrator who has served the Department of Political Science in several capacities in the polytechnic.

     During his four-year tenure as Head of Department, he was applauded for introducing strategic reforms that strengthened the postgraduate programme and enabled the department to retain full accreditation with an outstanding success rate.

    At the university level,  Ogbo has served extensively as Member, Secretary, and Chairman of the E-Examination Committee; Deputy Coordinator, Coordinator, and Acting Director of the General Studies Unit/Directorate; Dean of Student Affairs; Director of Consultancy Services; Member of Senate; among several other standing and ad hoc committees.

     Prof.  Sanusi Avidime succeeds him as rector.

    The appointments  deeply reflect the state government’s commitment to strengthening leadership and academic excellence across its tertiary institutions.

    Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Kogi State, has held its 27th annual matriculation ceremony,  formally admitting 9,000 students into various faculties and colleges.

    Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Marietu Tenuche, said the ceremony marked the official induction of newly admitted students into the academic community. She disclosed that the university received over 30,000 applications, out of which over 9,000 candidates were offered admission.

    The Registrar, Dr Yahaya Segun Alilu, conducted the matriculation exercise as provosts presented students from faculties including Law, Agriculture, Arts and Humanities, Computing, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Education, Media and Communication Studies, and the College of Health Sciences.

    Prof. Tenuche cautioned students against social vice such as cultism, cybercrime, rape, extortion, indecent dressing, and other misconducts, warning that offenders risk expulsion.

     She urged parents to remain actively involved in their wards’ academic lives and encouraged the use of on-campus hostels, which she described as safer and more affordable.

    The VC also announced the introduction of a digital platform that enables parents to monitor their wards’ academic performance, assuring stakeholders of a conducive learning environment for academic excellence.

    PAAU announces matriculation date

    Authorities at the Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) has announced the scheduled dates for the orientation and matriculation ceremonies for newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

    According to the announcement, the orientation programme is slated for Friday, January 9, 2026, while the matriculation ceremony will hold on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

    Speaking during the announcement, the school advised all newly admitted students to fully pay their prescribed fees and complete their registration, as these are mandatory requirements for participation in the matriculation ceremony.

    “Attendance at the orientation programme is mandatory,” it stated, urging students to take the exercise seriously, as it serves as an avenue for them to familiarise themselves with the university’s rules, culture, and regulations.
