    Buhari congratulates new Ooni of Ife

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday congratulated Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi on his emergence as the 51st Ooni of Ife and successor to the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade.

    President Buhari, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, rejoiced with Prince Adeyeye  on his  nomination  as  Ooni by the kingmakers of Ife  after a keenly contested but peaceful selection process, and confirmation on Monday by Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State.

    It reads: “As he prepares to begin the rites of ascension to the revered throne of his great ancestors, President Buhari urges the Ooni-designate to commit himself to carrying all his subjects along to a new era of peace, stability and progress in Ife, Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole.

    “The President called on Prince Adeyeye to be prepared to put his new position as Ooni and principal custodian of the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Yorubas to good use in the service of his people and country.

    “He also urged the Ooni-designate to dedicate himself to building on and surpassing the worthy legacies of his much-acclaimed predecessor, Oba Sijuwade, and working with government and other traditional rulers across the country to foster greater harmony, peaceful co-existence and faster socio-economic development of his people and all Nigerians.”

    The President prayed that God Almighty will grant him the immense wisdom and courage he will require to oversee further progress and greater prosperity for his people.

    He wished the new Ooni a long and highly successful reign in the service of his people and country.

    It may interest you to know that the new Ooni of Ife, Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi is one of the few young Nigerians who are doing exploit with their youth age. Young Ogunwusi, 40, has many achievements to his honour including the following: Prince Ogunwusi of the Giesi Ruling House, attended The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy. He was responsible for the establishment of the Association for International Business (AIB) in Nigeria. The new Ooni of Ife has employed over 300 youth at the Inagbe Cocowood Factory and has over 450 direct employees in his various companies.     Jubilant Ife residents hail new Ooni

    The people of Ife were in joyous mood on Monday after Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi from Giesi Ruling House‎ was named the Ooni-designate by kingmakers and the Osun State government.

    A group of jubilant‎ crowd, carrying a large portrait of Prince Adeyeye marched to the residence his father, Prince Ropo Ogunwusi, at NTA Road, Mukoro area of Ife, to share their joy with the family.

    Responding to questions from journalists, the Ooni-designate’s father‎ said it had been revealed to the family before the birth of the prince that he would become the Ooni.

    According to him, Adeyeye’s grandfather during his lifetime fondly referred to him as “Ooni Adeyeye.”

    He said out of his seven children‎, Adeyeye has always demonstrated special attributes that stood him out.

    The father said assured that his son would ‎pursue peace, unity and progress of people of Ife.

    Also, ‎former Special Adviser to Osun State Governor on Youths, Sport and Special Needs, Hon. Biyi Odunlade, an indigene of Ife, told journalists that a new era had come to the ancient town with selection of a youthful monarch.

    He said Adeyeye would prove to be a revolutionary‎ monarch, whose tenure would serve the best interest of everyone, particularly the youth.

    Odunlade urged the other three ruling houses – Lafogido, Osinkola and Ogboru to embarce peace and work together for the progress of Ife.

    Speaking with journalists at the outer hall of the Ooni’s Palace, the Laadin of the Ife Traditional Council, Chief Adetoye Olatunde Odewole, dismissed insinuations by other ruling houses that kingmakers didn’t follow due process in the selection process.

    The Ooni elect, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, will arrive Ile-Ife from Lagos on Wednesday

    A family source revealed that relations, friends and well wishers from Ife will meet Adeyeye at Ibadan, Oyo State capital, before they will accompany him in a long convoy of cars to the ancient town.

    He will arrive Ife triumphantly between 11.00 am and 12.00 noon and will proceed to his family house before going to Ile Oduduwa about fifty meters from the Ooni’ Palace at Enuwa, where he is expected to stay and undergo some rites and rituals.

    From Ile Oduduwa he will be received by the traditional chiefs and priests for another rounds‎ of rites and rituals for the next thirty day at Ilofi.

    He was initially expected to arrive Ife Tuesday but it was learnt‎ the Ilofi, where he will undergo rituals was not yet in proper shape, therefore, requiring the postponement of his arrival till Wednesday.
