Adeleke reflected, radiated patriotism at all times – Boroffice

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Science and Technology, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has commiserated with the government of the State of Osun and the people of the State on the demise of the first civilian governor of Osun State and senator representing Osun West, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke (CON).

In a condolence message signed by his media aide, Kayode Fakuyi, Senator Boroffice described the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke as surprising and shocking.

“I feel a sense of personal loss as I have lost a great friend and colleague. We shared so many great moments together. He was religiously devoted to the welfare and prosperity of his constituency. He is one Nigerian that reflected and radiated patriotism at all times. He will be sorely missed.

“I pray God will grant his gentle soul eternal rest and give all of us the fortitude to bear this huge loss,” the statement read.

Boroffice hails judiciary for crushing Olanusi’s impeachment

The senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Professor Ajayi Boroffice has said the judgement of Court of Appeal in Akure which nullified the impeachment of the former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, is consistent with the beliefs of APC members and the vast majority of citizens of Ondo State.

In a statement issued in Abuja by his media aide, Kayode Fakuyi, the senator said, ” I received the news that the Justice Muhammad Danjuma’s delivered judgement entirely crushed the kangaroo impeachment with utmost delight. However, the judgement is not surprising.”

“The judgement has merely reinforced my firmly held conviction that the kangaroo impeachment violated provisions of sections 188(2)(b), 188(3), 188(6) and 188(7)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

“Before the kangaroo impeachment, as the Asiwaju of  Akokoland, I had warned ex-governor Olusegun Mimiko against making attempt to frustrate an industrious and prominent Akoko man out of government simply because he exercised his right to defect to another party. The Mimiko-led administration failed to listen and dismissed my warning as the alarm without substance. However, barely few days after the warning, the kangaroo impeachment was executed.

“Meanwhile, since Justice Muhammad Danjuma has ordered the restoration of the privileges and entitlements due to the Alhaji Ali Olanusi from the time of his removal from office till February 24, 2017, I am confident that the Ondo State government will consider and act on the issue with utmost diligence and swiftness,” the statement read.

While congratulating the former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Ali Olanusi on his well deserved victory at the Court of Appeal, the senator wished him good health and long life so that he can continue to render selfless service to the people of Ondo State in particular and Nigeria in general.

  • Group makes case for Owo/Ose constituency

A group, Owo/Ose Egaliterian Group (OEG) has said that it is its turn to
produce the next governor of Ondo state under the plaform of any political
    party.

It emphasised that it was illogical for Akoko Division in the same Ondo
North to have the governorship and senatorial seats simultaneously.

A statement by its Coordinator, Akin Famadenuyi said the group was concerned about the capability of whoever should aspire to lead Ondo state now in the face of the dwindly revenue and zero industrial base.

It said the present prevailing situation demands for intergrity of a visionary leadership with unflinching loyality to the cause of the progressives party.

OEG recalled that it was a concensus in the state that the office of the governor should be rotated round the three senatorial Districts begining with late Chief Adebayo Adefarati (North) Dr Olusegun Agagu (South) and the
    incumbent Olusegun Mimiko (Central).

The statement reads: “It is most reasonable to continue in that direction
unless the North which is next in turn find it difficult to produce an acceptable candidate.

“Akoko has been the most beneficiary of political offices holding either elective or on appointments since the advent of the present democratic dispensation, they have produced Governor, two deputies, speaker, House of Assembly, Chief of Staff (CoS) to the President, Ministers and others including the incument Senator, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice.

“The concensus is that when the governor comes from Akoko, the Senator
should come from Owo/Ose axis and vice versa, but now Akoko has an array of
aspirants in the race which is morally wrong.”

OEG urged the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties to zone the governorship
slot to Owo/Ose Federal Constituency particularly Ose local government in
the interest of justice and fairplay.

  • Ondo guber: Tinubu, Akande have no anointed candidate – Boroffice

Ondo guber: Tinubu, Akande have no anointed candidate – Boroffice

The Senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State to disregard the rumours on purported endorsement of any of the 25 governorship aspirants of the party by its national leadership.

A statement in Akure, the state capital by his media aide, Kayode Adeniyi, described the rumor on endorsement as needless distraction that will never aid its promoters.

He urged the over 3,000 delegates in the party to remain vigilant and steadfast as some desperate politicians may have ignited the rumor in an attempt to derail the focus of the party on free, fair, credible and transparent primary election.

Boroffice said he got assurances from the APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former interim National chairman, Chief Bisi Akande and  party leaders in the Southwest geopolitical zone that there is nothing like anointed aspirant or endorsement as far as the governorship primary election of the party is concerned.

The Asiwaju of Akokoland said: “As an aspirant and democrat, I have had intimate interactions and engagements with party delegates over the years.

“The support I enjoy from them is reassuring. No distraction, whether calculated or accidental, can derail our focus on August 27, the scheduled date for primary election. My supporters and I are ready to participate and win.”
He urged the party loyalists to comport themselves and ensure that the desired change in governance needed in the state is realised from February next year.

  • Failed Akoko agenda and matters arising

Failed Akoko agenda and matters arising

The glaring and inexcusable failure of the political elites in Akoko Land to present an agreeable, acceptable and preferred governorship aspirant out of the about 10 aspirants from the Akoko division for the August 27 scheduled primary election of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State is a classical instance of how political elites could place personal interests above the communal desire for growth and development. With the declaration by the former deputy governor of Ondo State and member of APC Board of Trustees, Alhaji Ali Olanusi that Akoko Land has no preferred governorship aspirant, the ugly scenario painted above might have defeated the Akoko Agenda.

As an Akoko man, my understanding of Akoko Agenda is the collective desire of majority of sons and daughters of Akoko Land to produce the governorship candidate of the APC and by extension, produce the next governor of Ondo State. The choice of APC is understandable, given the fact that the party is the most dominant and the most popular political party in our region in Ondo State.

It is instructive to note that Akoko Land has four local government areas, namely Akoko North-East, Akoko North-West, Akoko South-East and Akoko South-West.

For those who would be tempted to accuse our people of sectional interest, the temptation would be defeated if they have a slight idea of how Akoko Land has been neglected by the government of Ondo State since 2009. We have the worst set of roads in the State. All indices of development show that our region in Ondo State lacks government patronage. Infact, it appears the region has been cut off from Ondo State with the alarming level of marginalization we have suffered from the Dr Olusegun Mimiko-led administration since 2009.

According to the testimony of Alhaji Ali Olanusi, he had an understanding with the Chief Felix Ayegbusi-led Akoko Elders Assembly to summon a meeting of the Assembly to discuss the issue of choosing a single Aspirant for Akoko in the forthcoming APC primary election in Ondo State. The meeting that was well attended by the governorship aspirants resolved to inaugurate a committee to screen the aspirants. Eminent indigenes of Akoko from the Akoko Development Group (ADG) and Akoko Consultative Forum (ACF) made membership of the committee. Chief Ayegbusi himself is a member of the committee. Without mincing words, both governorship aspirants and party elders accepted the membership composition of the committee.

The report of the committee placed Prof. Ajayi Boroffice from Akoko South-West LG at first position with 74.3%. Hon. Victor Olabimtan from Akoko South-West LG came second with 69.8%. Mr Gani Dauda from Akoko North-West LG came third with 61.8%. Dr. Tunji Abayomi from Akoko North-West LG came fourth with 57.6%. Mr Olusegun Abraham from Akoko North-East LG came sixth with 54.6% amongst others. The report, which was widely publicized further showed that scores on 5-point range assessment rating scale were collapsed into five (5) inclusive and mutually reinforcing clusters of desirable attributes of governorship aspirants.

The five clusters are: – relevant educational and related background, real and potential capacity to reposition Ondo State, demonstrated consistency, loyalty and commitment to APC and its core values since the party’s inception, contributions to the growth of the party and ability and political clout/influence to relate with the Federal Government and relevant International Organizations/Agencies to attract/secure patronage and investments for development. It is instructive to note that Prof. Sola Ehindero who served as chairman of the committee is from Akoko North-West LG while the committee secretary, Hon. Pelemo is from Akoko South-East LG.

However, the committee has barely laid its report to the assembly of Akoko leaders of APC that Chief Felix Ayebusi, who is a member of the committee,  whimsically and hurriedly announced the endorsement a governorship aspirant, Mr. Segun Abraham. The committee report had placed Mr Abraham at sixth position. Citing reasons for the endorsement of Mr Abraham, Chief Ayegbusi said since Akoko division has two parts, namely Akoko South and Akoko North, Akoko South that had been favoured most should give opportunity to Akoko North. He, however failed to tell the world the parameters he deployed to adopt Mr Abraham out of the many aspirants from Akoko North. Dr. Tunji Abayomi and Mr Ganny Dauda are from Akoko North Federal Constituency.

The intrigues and manipulative actions that culminated in an attempt by the Ayegbusi-led group to impose an aspirant on other aspirants left the group in huge integrity deficit. That is why all aspirants rejected the endorsement of Mr Abraham by Chief Ayegbusi. Even Dr Tunji Abayomi, whose Akoko North had been favoured by the Chief Ayegbusi’s kangaroo endorsement, kicked and rejected the arrangement by describing it as “embarrassingly self-serving and divisive”. Abayomi also said any endorsement without the consent of the Aspirants is useless while declaring that no group of leaders can impose a Candidate on any Aspirant.

In a similar manner, another aspirant, Hon. Victor Olabimtan described the arrangement as dead even before arrival because of lack of confidence in the leaders that are supposed to drive the process. The action of the Ayegbusi group is everything short of modest, honest and transparent. The bone of contention is whether imposition is allowed under a consensus arrangement.

Due to facts that the Chief Ayegbusi’s self-serving endorsement of Mr Abraham and the report of Alhaji Ali Olanusi-led committee, which recommended Prof. Boroffice for adoption as a preferred governorship aspirant, had been rejected by the aspirants, the aspirants have been admonished to go and discuss among themselves and present a single aspirant who will contest the primary election of the APC. Though, the aspirants said they are not opposed to consensus arrangement provided the process is thorough, all inclusive and the terms are acceptable to all aspirants, the possibility of presenting a single aspirant is almost foreclosed given the ugly turn of political events in recent times.

In clear terms, the disunity and dearth of cohesion in the club of governorship aspirants in the APC doe not speak well for the collective aspiration of the people of Akoko land to produce the next governor of Ondo State. If Akoko Land fails to produce the next governor of Ondo State, the Chief Felix Ayegbusi-led group should be chiefly blamed for pursuing personal interests at a critical time it was expected to offer acceptable leadership.

NDDC nomination: Boroffice calls for calm in riverine communities

The senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has appealed for calm due to the palpable tension in the oil-producing communities in Ondo State over nominations for the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The Senator made this appeal on Friday in a statement issued in Abuja by his media aide,  Kayode Adeniyi.

The APC Chieftain said: “I have received countless calls, text messages and electronic mails from concerned people of Ondo State, particularly our brothers and the sisters from the oil-producing communities in Ondo State on the issue of nominees for the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

“Some of the people did raise petitions and expressed dissenting views while some threatened to embark on protests as regards the composition of nominees for the Board of NDDC.
“However, the NDDC Act is clear with no iota of ambiguity on the requirements that must be fulfilled.

“Therefore, I want to alert concerned and aggrieved citizens of Ondo State that the leadership of All Progressives Congress at the topmost level has intervened and taken up the issue.  Our people should be rest-assured that justice will be done on the issue.

“Finally,  as members of one big political family, I appeal to concerned citizens to back out from any planned protest,  if any,  since the issue will be resolved soon.”

  • Boroffice berates Mimiko for funding Ondo PDP, forsaking striking workers

Boroffice berates Mimiko for funding Ondo PDP, forsaking striking workers

The senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has berated the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko for disbursing huge state funds to‎ the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State at a time the indefinite strike embarked upon by workers is taking severe tolls on the people and economy of the State.
He alleged that the money was reportedly disbursed to the PDP to enable it kickstart a well-orchestrated rigging plot ahead of the forthcoming governorship election by mobilising unqualified persons and political thugs for the ongoing continuous registration exercise and by extension seeking to manipulate the voters’ register.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his media aide, Kayode Adeniyi, the senator also accused Governor Olusegun Mimiko of personally coordinating the bleeding of state partly-owned company, Owena Oil and Gas Ltd to death for selfish reasons.
The APC Chieftain described the action of the government as irresponsible and callous, challenging Governor Olusegun Mimiko to come out clean on the finances of the State.
“The recent disclosure by Governor Olusegun Mimiko that the government has only N3.4 billion in its coffers is ‎the clearest sign in recent times that the state government has perpetuated a culture of wasteful spending in the last 7 years.
“It is instructive to note that many states including Borno State had never owed salaries. Despite National economic challenges and Boko Haram insurgency, Borno State that is not an oil producing state has managed to fulfil its obligations to workers. Therefore, there is no acceptable justification for the continued delay of workers’ salaries by the Mimiko-led administration in Ondo State.
“The trite claim by the government that it pays 3.9 billion on monthly wage bill can only suggest an institutionalised fraud. It is on record that government has not done any major recruitment since 2009. The Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) recruitment scam is still fresh in the memories of our people. How is the government expending the bogus sum of 3.9 billion every month? What percentage of this sum is voted to the personal security and the political appointees of the governor?
“Meanwhile, the Mimiko-led administration is the architect of the hardship that is presently ravaging our state. This is a government that has been shouting improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). This is a government that gets Oil derivation funds regularly. This is an administration that inherited over N30billion from the government it succeeded in 2009.
“The Mimiko-led administration should tell the people how itmisappropriated over N50billion worth of assets and cash owned by ‎Owena Oil and Gas Ltd. The governor should consider it a matter urgent importance to address the people of Ondo State on how he has expended these funds.
“I am confident that if the Mimiko-led administration had allowed the oil company to perform in accordance to its founding ‎visions as conceived by Late Governor Adebayo Adefarati, the state would have been able to comfortably pay workers’ salaries and meet other financial obligations.
“The Mimiko-led adminstration cannot continue to blame the federal government that gave our debt-ridden state lifeline and still willing to offer economic aid. The state government cannot continue to hide under non-existing capital projects. What are the capital projects? ‎Where are the capital projects?
“Finally, it is beyond imagination that a government can starve its workers while spending huge state funds on political activities. That is utterly callous. It is clear that the irresponsible administration in Ondo State has outlived its essences,” the statement read.

Boroffice urges Ondo indigenes to ‘troop out en mass’ for CVR

The senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice on Monday urged the people of Ondo State to troop out en masse for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the State.

According to a statement issued by his media aide, Kayode Adeniyi, the exercise is scheduled to take place between Wednesday, June 22 and Sunday, June 26, 2016.

The senator, in the statement, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), “to embark on the wholly cleansing of the voters’ register and thereafter safeguard the register from desperate politicians whose antecedents have shown the manipulative capacity to hijack and play foul with voters register by injecting invisible voters.”

“Those persons who did not register in the previous voters’ registration exercise and have reached 18 years and above should endeavour to participate in the CVR exercise. It is also an opportunity for registered voters to transfer their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to preferred polling units.

“The assurance from INEC on the credibility of the exercise is welcoming. Beyond the assurance, INEC should embark on a general cleansing of the voters’ register and safeguard same.

“Meanwhile, our people should be reminded that the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain the only instrument that can enable them to exercise the franchise to determine who governs Ondo State. It represents the power with which workers can change the party which government has made non-payment of salaries a matter of policy. It is also the only instrument with which the people can install a responsible government.

“I urge the people of Ondo State to troop out en masse to participate in the CVR exercise. They should rise and take charge of the process. I wish them hitch-free registration exercise,” the statement read.

  • Mimiko’s wife is gift to humanity – Boroffice

The senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, has showered encomium on the First Lady of Ondo State, Mrs OluKemi Mimiko as she marks her 49th birthday anniversary.

In a congratulatory note issued by his media aide, Kayode Adeniyi, the senator said Mrs Mimiko‎ is an indescribable gift to humanity.

“Over the years, through her accomplishments and interventions, she has distinguished herself as a virtuous woman and role model that is worthy of emulation by her contemporaries and the younger feminine population.

“I draw inspiration from 2 corinthians 9 : 15, to join other family members and well wishers to appreciate God for this indescribable gift to humanity. I wish her many more celebrations in good health,” he said.
