    Padita Agu promotes new movie with stars

    Nollywood actress Padita Agu, who just released a new movie titled The Last 3 Digits, is currently promoting the movie with the likes of On-Air-Personality, Lolo 1, Audu Maikori and Seyi Shay among others. According to the actress, the reason for using popular faces is to enhance publicity for the movie.

    She stated: “Lolo1 receives a special preview copy of #Thelast3digits #movie. You know your soup is well cooked when #lolo1 got your back!

    The movie which is currently showing at the cinemas features Nonso Diobi ,Yemi Blaq, Dr SID and Rachel Oniga among others.

    Padita who has been missing in action for some years, according to reports, took a break from the screen to complete her studies at the University of Abuja, after which she left for the New York Film Academy for further training.

    The actress has starred in movies such as Egg of LifeThe Boy is Mine and Burning Heart. She is also an event planner, and the CEO of Goldie Locks Hair Salon located in Abuja.

    FRSC promotes eight in Gombe

    The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has promoted eight Assistant Route Commanders to Deputy Route Commanders in the Gombe State Sector Command.

    Sector Commander Galadima Kuteb, who decorated them yesterday, said the promotion was in recognition of their hard work.

    The commander urged other officers to be patient and work hard.

    Responding for the others, Deputy Route Commander Rimaskwe Gideon Kitan  said “promotion is about hard work, commitment and dedication,” and sought the cooperation of everyone towards the goal of saving lives.

    State Sector Commander Kuteb hailed the conduct of road users during the Sallah celebration.

    “It was crash-free, we have never had it so good, Accidents rates have reduced”.

    Lasaco Assurance Plc has elevated 31 of its workers.

    They are Miss Omoh Warrie, who was controller. She is now Assistant General Manager; Mrs. Jumoke Koleoso, Mrs. Taiwo Adegbola, Mrs. Abiola Aladejebi and Mr. Lawrence Oyedele, all senior managers were elevated to controllers.

    The Group Managing Director of LASACO, Mr. Olusola Ladipo-Ajayi, said the exercise was part of a strategic goal of the organisation to boost morale of staff and enhance productivity.

    The LASACO boss said the role of human capital development in the industry cannot be underestimated.

    He said: “Huge investment is being made in human capital in order to keep them abreast of global trends for efficiency and optimum performance.

    A FIRM, Vast Stream Limited, has announced its promotion of educational,  African culture and entertainment, and value through beauty pageant to discover intelligent and beautiful ladies.

    Its Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr. Ogboka Ebiware Thomas said the initiative was taken to promote education for the universal advancement of women beginning with the locality.

    The initiative, he said, started with the Egbe-Idimu-Ikotun Beauty Pageant in Lagos, which recently produced a queen, Miss Shakira Olabisi Uthman, a 22-year-old graduate of History and International Studies at the Lagos State University (LASU).

    “The aim of this educational/Entertainment event is to reach out to young women and provide a positive platform that would bring out the best of the young pageant hopefuls,” he said.

    Bank’s forum promotes SMEs’ roles in oil & gas sector

    Small and medium scale enterprises (SMES) wishing to play in the nation’s oil and gas sector have been advised to fully understand the intricate operations of the industry locally and globally before venturing into it.

    Audrey Joe-Ezigbo, author and co-founder, Falcon Petroleum Limited, who gave the advice on Fidelity SME Forum, a weekly programme by Fidelity Bank Plc, said though this may sound basic but it is the truth.

    Speaking on opportunities in the oil and gas sector and what it takes to build a successful partnership with a spouse, she said the oil and gas industry is such a robust industry that most people just miss it, pointing out that in the gas business for instance, there is opportunity for producing, distributing or retailing either natural gas.

    According to her, “there is opportunity in logistics and so many other aspects. The industry is not waiting for you; rather you are the one that is trying to carve a niche, so you owe it to yourself to do the research even beyond that specific field to understand the global industry. “There are lots of opportunities because it’s a very robust industry. There’s so much going on now with the gas revolution, gas to power development etc. It’s just incredible.”

    Explaining how she was able to build the skill to establish success in the oil and gas sector, she said: “In terms of my background, I didn’t have any in oil and gas or petroleum engineering.”

    The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in partnership with key publicly quoted companies will be holding the 1st NSE Corporate Challenge. The one-day event which is scheduled to take place in Lagos on Saturday, May 17, 2014 will be a highly competitive and fun-filled five kilometre walk, run or jog competition to promote and support teamwork, company pride and corporate wellness. The competition is open to the broker dealer community and companies listed on the NSE.

    Head, corporate services, Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Mr Bola Adeeko, in a statement, stated that the idea behind the corporate challenge is for responsible organisations and their employees to take part in the initiative as a way of enhancing employee-employer relations and boost goodwill by bringing all together for fun, fitness and fellowship.

    According to him, the inaugural NSE Corporate Challenge is a professionally organised and volunteer-driven initiative involving over 350 companies listed on the Exchange and support organisations from the capital market community.

    He said the NSE would be working in close partnership with public and private sector organisations such as the Lagos Island Central Business District, First Bank of Nigeria, Unilever, Unity Bank, Nestle Nigeria, Malta Guinness and First City Monument Bank among others.

    “The Corporate Challenge is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of the Exchange, aimed at promoting the health and wellbeing of our operating community which will also present a platform for teamwork and networking. The initiative will enhance the concept of volunteerism within participating companies,” Adeeko said.

    Though the challenge will be primarily open to teams of employees from companies listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, non-commercial organizations such as Federal, State and Local Governments, quasi-governmental organizations, educational institutions and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will be invited to compete as well.

    Sovereign Trust Insurance (STI) Plc has collaborated with Diamond Publications Limited, organisers of the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME), to further promote professionalism among journalists with special focus on insurance reporting.

    Managing Director, STI, Mr Wale Onaolapo, represented by the Head, Corporate Communication and Brand Management, Mr. Segun Bankole, at a one-day media workshop organised for journalists, said there is need to learn and improve in any profession.

    The theme of the one-day workshop was ‘Widening the pools of excellence.’

    It held at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Lagos.

    Onaolapo said the importance of the media cannot be undermined, hence the need to improve on the pratitioners’ skills. He noted that it is critical for journalists to maintain their role as watchdogs of the society.

    He said the public will only get the best from journalists when the reporting is of good standard premised on proper research and objectivity.

    He enjoined the participants to take advantage of the new insights they have been exposed to and let it reflect in their work in the years ahead.

    He noted that STI would continue to support knowledge acquisition initiatives in promoting the advancement of the insurance industry.

    He said: “The media in any society act as the barometer for social conscience and they must be encouraged to continue to play this very critical role. The company signed on with Diamond Awards for Media Excellence DAME, since 2008, to sponsor in perpetuity, the Insurance Award for Journalists at the yearly event.”

    The Chief Organiser and Administrator of DAME, Mr. Lanre Idowu, said the initiative was borne out of the need to enhance journalists’ professionalism and equip them with modern methods of news gathering for better reporting.

    He said further: “If the goals of impacting positively on the Nigerian Media development landscape are to be realised, reporting standard must be urgently improved upon.”

    He said the support from the firm had been strong, hoping that other corporate organisations would emulate the initiative.

  • UBA Foundation promotes ‘Read Africa’

    Students of Coker Senior Secondary School Orile-Iganmu, Lagos have benefitted from the UBA Foundation ‘Read Africa’ initiative targeted at reawakening a healthy reading culture amongst African youths.

    In a statement, the foundation said, Group Legal Counsel, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Mr. Samuel Adikamkwu served as UBA Foundation’s mentor for the occasion. He led the students through a reading session and also advised them on how to be successful individuals. “Reading has made me what I am today” he told the students.

    He also advised the students to read quality materials “even if it is a page of a newspaper you find, pick it up and read, you will learn a lot through reading, you will never lose anything from reading.”

    Citing the example of Chinua Achebe, author of ‘Things Fall Apart’, copies of which were distributed at the occasion, he said it was through reading that Chinua Achebe polished his writing skills which eventually turned him into the renowned literary giant that he became.

  • Kwara promotes 12,000 teachers

    Kwara State Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed has approved the promotion of 12,000 primary and secondary school teachers.

    A breakdown of the figure shows that 10,046 primary school teachers and 2,105 secondary school teachers benefited from the exercise. Civil servants due for the next tranche of promotions are writing the qualification examinations prelude to the oral interviews.

    The development came as the government said it would boost the Clean and Green programme with 30 RoRo bins and 10 compactors.

    Speaking in Ilorin, Governor Ahmed said the teachers were promoted to motivate them to higher performance and boost their welfare with enhanced pay.

    Stressing that the two levels are critical to the attainment of qualitative education and human capital development, he pledged the state government’s commitment to the enhancement of civil servants’ conditions of service in line with Performance Contracting.

    Governor Ahmed urged the newly-promoted teachers to reciprocate the gesture by redoubling their efforts to provide qualitative education to the pupils, adding that civil servants, who excel, would be promoted.

    The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), in a statement signed by its Kwara State Chairman, Alhaji Farouq Akanbi and Assistant General Secretary, Chief Wale Oyeniyi, described Governor Ahmed’s gesture as a humane posture that would boost teachers’ morale.

    Kwara State Government is to boost its Clean and Green Programme with 10 additional compactors and 30 RoRo bins to cope with the expanding population of Ilorin and attendant increase in the volume of waste.

    The Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Anthony Towoju, who said this in Ilorin, added that it would enhance government’s capacity to keep Ilorin and other parts of the state clean
