    INEC begins PVC distribution in Kogi

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the distribution of permanent voter cards (PVCs) to newly-registered voters in Kogi State.

    The Head of Department, Voter Education, INEC Office, Lokoja, Mr. Daniel Kure,  in an interview yesterday in Lokoja with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the PVC distribution, which started on November 14, would continue till November 20, adding that there were over 47,000 newly- registered voters in the 21 local governments.

    He urged voters to visit INEC offices in their councils to collect the PVCs to enable them participate in Saturday’s election.

    Kure said a stakeholders’ meeting would hold today at Riverton Hotel, Lokoja, by 10 am.

    He said the dignitaries expected included the INEC Chairman, Mr. Yakub Mahmoud, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase and the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Johnson Olawumi.

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently claimed the distribution of a total of 76% of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) nationwide.  South West

    The commission, through a document made available on its website on February 17, indicated varying figures representing voters’ registration for the PVC as well as the collection figures for each of the 36 states of the country, the Federal Capital territory (FCT) inclusive.

    North East According to the commission, about an approximate 52 million cards have been retrieved out of the about 70 million registered permanent voters’ cards in its possession, while 17.0 million cards remain uncollected.

    It would be recalled that the electoral commission had promised to attain at least 85 per cent distribution before the elections.

    INEC has therefore extended the deadline for the collection of the voter cards till March 8.

    INEC postpones PVC distribution, CVR in Kaduna

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to December 6 and 8 in Kaduna State.

    The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will hold from December 10 till 15 in the state.

    INEC National Commissioner Dr. Chris Iyimoga, in the zone, spoke yesterday at a meeting with stakeholders and political parties.

    The INEC chief said the distribution and collection were postponed because of “technical problems”.

    He urged the stakeholders and political parties to bear with the commission.

    Iyimoga said: “The distribution of the PVCs will now hold from December 6-8, while the Continuous Voters Registration will be from December 10-15.

    “Some of the problems we have are technical and we apologise and appeal for your understanding.”

    PVC distribution begins in 11 states, FCT tomorrow

    The second phase of the distribution of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will begin tomorrow in 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    The distribution will end on Sunday, August 17.

    It will be followed by the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) from August 20 to 25, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) schedule.

    The commission said only those with the PVCs would be allowed to vote during next year’s general elections.

    The states are: Yobe and Bauchi (Northeast); Jigawa and Sokoto (Northwest); FCT and Kwara (Northcentral); Anambra and Ebonyi (Southeast); Ondo and Oyo (Southwest) and Delta and Cross River (Southsouth).

    In its daily bulletin yesterday, INEC said new dates would be announced for the phase three, comprising Adamawa, Borno, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Plateau, Nassarawa, Niger, Imo, Lagos, Ogun, Edo and Rivers states.

    The bulletin said: “Only those with PVCs will be allowed to vote during the 2015 general elections.

    “Voters are expected to cross-check their names in the displayed voters’ register. Those who registered before but do not see their names in the displayed register are to re-register during the continuous voter registration (CVR).
