  • 1.38m PVCs yet to be collected in Lagos – REC

    The Independent National Electoral Commission ( REC) in Lagos State on Thursday said some 1.38 million Permanent Voter’s Cards ( PVCs) were still uncollected in the state.

    Mr Sam Olumekun, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Lagos State, gave the figure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria  in Lagos.

    “We still have about 1.38 million PVCs uncollected as we speak. Only about 15 per cent of the 2017 new registrants whose cards have been produced have come to pick their cards. It is very poor.

    “We have also added close to 750, 000 new registrants, whose cards are still going to be produced and distributed.

    “Of course, the ones (PVCs) newly printed for those who registered in 2017, people are coming to collect them than those which had been there since 2011 elections,” he said.

    The commissioner urged eligible voters whose cards had been produced to visit INEC offices in the 20 local government areas across the state to pick them up.

    According to him, this will enable them to exercise their civic responsibility in the 2019 elections.

    “We are still looking at the possibility of going to meet the people; taking the cards to them, but we are still looking at that. It is going to be a policy issue,” Olumekun said.

    The REC urged the people to be involved in determining those that would represent them in government.

    “We are imploring all stakeholders in this business to educate and sensitise the people, because it is important to get our democracy working.

    “Sensitisation, mobilisation and education is not the business of INEC alone; it is the business of every interest group, for people to come out and perform their civic responsibility,” Olumekun said.

  • 93, 788 PVCs uncollected in Plateau – INEC

    The Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ) has said that 93, 788 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) were still uncollected in Plateau.

    Mr Imahiyereobo Osaretin, Head of Voter Education and Publicity of the commission in the state, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria  on Wednesday in Jos.

    According to him, the unclaimed PVCs were for persons who registered between January and December 2017.

    “Between January and December 2017, we registered 133,007 new voters in Plateau and their PVCs have been ready long now.

    “But as I speak to you, only 39, 219 PVCs were collected, leaving 93, 788 unclaimed,” he said.

    Osaretin explained that Jos North, Jos South, Wase, and Kanke local government areas of the state had the highest number of unclaimed PVCs.

    “For example, Jos North has a total number of 11, 147 PVCs, but only 5, 706 are collected.

    “In Wase, we registered 10, 408 voters and their PVCs ready, but only 1,253 have so far been collected.

    “In Kanke, only 906 PVCs have been collected out of the 4,848 produced for the area” he explained.

    The head of voter education said now that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) had been suspended, more attention would be channelled to collection of PVCs.

    He, therefore, urged registered voters who are yet to collect their PVCs to do so, adding that the personnel of the commission would be on ground at every collection point.

  • PVC: Oyo declares today work-free day

    Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi has declared today public holiday for public and civil servants to enable those who have not registered or collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so.

    The governor gave the directive yesterday in Ibadan, the state capital, through a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Olalekan Alli.

    As the registration entered its last day today, preparatory to the 2019 general elections, Ajimobi enjoined workers to take advantage of the work-free day to perform their civic responsibility.

    Alli said: “The governor has directed that it is mandatory for all public and civil servants in the state to ensure that they duly register for their PVCs in the ongoing exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which ends on Friday (today).

    “Consequently, His Excellency has directed that August 31 (today) be observed as work-free day in all government offices across the state.”

  • ‘If you don’t have your PVC, don’t complain of bad governance’

    The General Overseer of God First Ministries, Bishop Isaac Idahosa has joined in voices  calling on Nigerians to ensure that they get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) as he said that no Nigerian should complain of bad governance if they do not have their PVCs.

    Speaking to newsmen in Minna, Idahosa said that prayers will not elect the next leaders of the nation, “it is your franchise, your PVC that elects the next governor or President, prayers will not elect these people.”

    He urged Church Leaders to educate their members and encourage them to get their PVCs adding that without living by example, the members will not follow suit.

    “You can preach all you know but you produce who you are. If as a leader in the church, you ask your members to get their PVCs and you do not have one, then you have done nothing. If you do not have your PVC, do not complain of bad governance. ”

    The Cleric decried the incessant killings of Priests and Pastors in some states across the country describing it as unacceptable as such action is a call for anarchy in the nation. ‘

    “The killings of Priests in churches in Taraba, Benue and Kaduna are unacceptable. One soul lost is too much of a loss and when you now get into sacred places and kill Priests and Pastors, it is a terrible thing.

    “What the perpetrators are inviting is anarchy. If Christians tend to respond the way they do then peace will become a very scarce commodity in the land. ”

    He stressed on the need for Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of tolerance, love and being their brother’s keeper.

    Idahosa then lamented in the high rate of poverty in the nation describing it as ‘terribly bad’ adding that the poverty rate have helped increased the crime rate in the nation.

    He called on government at all level to work our ways of tackling poverty.

  • Osun 2018: INEC presents voters’ register to political parties

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday presented soft copies of voters’ register for the Sept.22 Osun governorship election to the 38 political parties participating in the election.

    Mr Segun Agbaje, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun, presented the register to the representatives of political parties at the INEC office in Osogbo.

    Agbaje said that some political parties had approached him to collect the register individually, but he insisted that the copies must be distributed to all the parties at the same time.

    He said the presentation of the register was in line with INEC’s guidelines, urging the political parties to call the commission’s attention to any wrong they discovered after going through the document.

    He assured the parties of INEC’s neutrality, advising them to promptly report any officer of the commission found culpable of wrong doing, including himself, to the national headquarters of the electoral body.

    Agbaje gave the parties the details of the efforts INEC had made in the compilation of the register in order to ensure a successful election in the state.

    The resident electoral commissioner appealed to the representatives of the political parties to inform the electorate about the importance of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) during the election.

    “As we speak, majority of the non-sensitive materials that would be used for the conduct of the election have been received from INEC headquarters, Abuja, and distributed to INEC offices across the state.

    “Furthermore, a total of 1,152,773 PVCs have been collected by their owners out of 1,668,524 received in the state, leaving a balance of 515,751 as at Aug.17.

    “It is important for you to help us to inform the people on the need to collect their PVCs during your campaigns and rallies, because without PVC, nobody would be allowed to vote.” he said.

    Mr Adedeji Shoyebi, INEC National Commissioner in charge of Oyo, Osun and Ekiti said the presentation was to enable them verify the voters and fish out underage persons and foreigners included in the list.

    He said that it was sad that over 500,000 PVCs had yet to be collected out of the over 1.6 million produced for registered voters in the state.

    He said that meant that about one-third of voters in the state had yet to collect their PVCs and might not vote during the election.

    Shoyebi warned that the commission would not tolerate vote-buying and violence during exercise.

    The national commissioner warned that anyone caught in the act of violence or inducing voters with money would face the full wrath of the law.

    He, however, advised the political parties to call on the electorate yet to collect their PVCs to do so, urging them to also sensitise their members, especially the youths, to eschew violence during the election.

  • 2019: Use PVC to elect leaders not weapons – Sultan

    The Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs ( NSCIA) Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar on Tuesday urged Nigerian youths to use their PVCs not weapons to choose their leaders.

    According to the reverred leader, is the only sure way to ensure the success of their parties and candidates in the forthcoming elections.

    ‎”I urge you to obtain your PVCs. Without which you cannot not vote for your favourite party and candidates in the forthcoming elections in 2019.

    “We should see our PVCs as religious and weapons not the kind of weapons given to our youths by unscrupulous politicians to cause mayhem in our societies.

    ” If you love Buhari, the only way you can ensure his success is obtaining your PVCs and same thing with Governor Tambuwal and other aspirants,” he said

    Sultan made the call in his message to Muslims on the occasion of Ed-el-Adhan.

    The religious monarch also reiterated his call on them to shun acts of thuggery or violence, saying no election worth a precious life of any Nigerian.

    He maintained that traditional rulers have no favourite party or candidate other than the choices of their subjects.

    However, the royal father appealed to politicians and political parties not to take politics as do or die affairs, stressing that only God gives power to whoever He wishes and at the time He wishes so.

    “We should therefore play the game by its rules. We should avoid making inflammatory and divisive statements in our politicking. And after the election whoever God gives the office we should support him to succeed,” he said

    He further urged Nigerians to continue supporting their leaders with prayers and advices in order to deliver on their mandates successfully while reminding them of the need‎ to also pray fervently for a sustained peace across the country as according to him, no country would progress without a permanent peace and tranquility.

    In the same vein, the religious leader commended the efforts and resilience of security agencies in their drive towards securing the country.

    A Food and Beverages Entrepreneur, Mr. Sunshine Anifowose  has congratulated the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba (Dr.) Rufus Aladesanmi Adejuyigbe on 2018 Idiroko Festival, wishing the first class traditional ruler good health and grace to witness more of such celebration on earth.
    The Udiroko festival is celebrated in Ado-Ekiti. It is the only festival apart from Ogun or Oitado according to Ado-Ekiti tradition that brings all Ado-Ekiti citizens both at home and in the Diaspora together. It was established around 1310 AD during the reign of Oba Awamaro, the first Ewi of present day Ado-Ekiti and marks the first day of the year for the town’s inhabitants.
    It is a day people set aside to give thanks for their creator, Olorun hence its nickname, the Olorunborun festival. The name Udiroko is derived from the venue of the festival, which is beneath the big Uroko (Iroko) tree at the Ewi’s palace.
    The festival comes up on Tuesday 21st August 2018 at the palace of Ewi, situated around the popular old garage, Ado-Ekiti, the capital city of Ekiti State.
    Anifowose, who is also the Personal Assistant to the State Governor, Peter Ayodele Fayose on Administration, Human-capital Development (popular known as Stomach Infrastructure) and Special Duties also extended the tentacle of his greetings to all Muslims faithful in Ado-Ekiti on this year Eid al-Kabir celebrations.
    In a statement personally signed by him, a copy of which was made available to news men on Monday in Lagos, the Ado-Ekiti born trained Geologist urged his kinsmen to use the period of Idiroko and Eid al-Kabir celebrations to pray for sustenance of peace and unity of his community, Ekiti State and Nigeria in general.
    He urged his kinsmen who were yet to register to vote or collect their permanent voters card (PVC) to do so without delay, stating that it is only through their votes that good governance can be enthroned and bad governance can be rejected in Ekiti State and across the nation of Nigeria.
  • INEC releases 9, 750 PVCs in Ilorin West

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ilorin West, Kwara, has released a total of 9,750 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for those that registered in 2017.

    Alhaji Abu Uffene, Electoral officer, Ilorin West, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in his office, on Monday.

    He said that out of 9, 750 PVCs that were released by the Commission, 5, 354 had been collected by their owners, while 4, 396 PVCs were yet to be collected.

    He, therefore, advised those that registered for PVC in Ilorin West to come forward to collect their cards.

    “We are going through stress keeping PVCs for people, as we do physical counting of PVCs every day.

    “3, 273 people applied for transfer as a result of change of location of residence, to enable them access polling unit easily, on election day.

    “While some have relocated to another state, so they will have to seek for transfer to that place, in which another PVC will be issued to them, with the new address on it, and the old one will be retrieved,” he said.

    The electoral officer said that INEC started registering people for PVC since April 27, 2018 and there are lots of people that are yet to register for the card.

    “Ilorin West has the highest number of population in Kwara, so when we started, we were given only one machine for registration, but due to the population, it has been increased to four registration machines.

    “We have registered 23, 711 for PVCs and there are still many people that are yet to be registered, so we decide to work on weekends.

    “There are 12 wards in Ilorin West, so we divided them into two wards per day, while three wards register on Thursday and Friday, to enable us register people across the 12 wards, and on weekends, anybody from the 12 wards can register,” he said.

    He said that their major problem was the crowd, saying that they were disorganized and not patient, which has resulted into fight among the people wishing to register on many occasions and thereby disturbing the official work.

    The electoral officer called for more presence of security agencies to maintain order at the registration centres.

  • INEC urges collection of PVCs in Akwa Ibom

    The Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ) in Akwa Ibom has urged electorate in the state to mobilise themselves in order to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

    Mr Mike Igini, Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC), told our reporter in Uyo on Monday stressed “that without PVC one cannot vote in the 2019 general elections.“

    He further advised political stakeholders in the state to mobilise the electorate by providing them with transport to enable collect their PVCs at various local governments.

    “You all know how you assisted to mobilise the people to register by mobilising them from various local governments, using vehicles to bring them to the centres.

    “Please do well enough to mobilise them to various local governments, offices are open as a matter of fact because of the need to suspend the exercise on Aug. 17,“Igini said.

    The REC noted with concern that the state had not attained 50 per cent of PVCs collection in the state.

    “No individual can vote without PVC but unfortunately there has been very poor response to collection, this should be a matter of concern to all stakeholders.

    “So far, only 24, 420 have been collected out of 145, 737 PVCs printed and delivered to the state.“

    According to him, 17 per cent of PVCs has been collected in the state.

    He said that there was urgent need for critical stakeholders to sensitise and galvanise voters to collect their PVCs because “no PVC no voting” in 2019.“

    Igini said that the commission had earlier announced the extension of Saturday and Sunday for the collection of PVCs across the 31 local government areas to accommodate as many people as possible.

    He implored political parties to commence the process of identifying who would be their party agents at various polling units across the state.

  • Kraks Media staff collect PVC on work free day

    With a day off from work, staff of KRAKS MEDIA now have their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

    The management of the humour/viral content company gave its staff Monday, July 16 as day off to enable them collect their cards from registration centres of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

    KRAKS MEDIA, in a statement urged fellow Nigerians to “not just talk about PVCs and rant about the present administration but to also take a step to get their PVCs and vote in the right leadership for our country Nigeria.”
