    Lagos govt shuts Quilox for causing traffic congestion

    Lagos State Government has shut popular nightclub, Quilox, on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island.

    The Nation learnt it was closed down for causing severe traffic congestion in the vicinity.

    Lagos State Environment Update – @enviupdatelasg via ‘X’ on Sunday had tweeted: “This is Quilox Club as of today, the 24th of December, 2023. At 7.30 am….

    “When the government takes a FINAL decision on the traffic and environmental nuisances caused by this club, nobody should cry a witch-hunt.”

    This is not the first time the state government will be shutting down the club.

    On December 26 last year, the popular nightclub was closed down over non-compliance with the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency’s (LASEPA’s) directive and organising events without obtaining a sound control permit.

    Last month, it was also sealed off for noise pollution and other environmental infractions.

    LASEPA officials then stated that the club was shut due to multiple concerns, including severe traffic congestion in the vicinity and a flagrant disregard for the agency’s directives infraction

    However, the government later opened the club following a commitment by its operators to adhere to safety rules.

    Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC) on their official X handle on Sunday, confirmed the latest shutdown.

    According to LASEPA, both agencies have warned social centres to ensure that their operations do not affect the safety and wellbeing of other citizens and vowed to sanction any of such erring.

    LASEPA added that Quilox Restaurant Bar Night Club had been found in non-compliance with essential environmental regulations set by the agency.

    The agencies also warned Sol Beach, The Good Beach and Landmark Beach over environmental violations and safety measures.

    LASEPA tweeted: “Lagos State Government Seals Quilox, strongly warns Sol Beach, The Good Beach and Landmark Beach over Environmental and Safety infractions.

    “A joint enforcement operation between the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC) sealed Quilox nightclub over environmental and safety infractions.

    “Recall an earlier press release, where both agencies have warned social centres to ensure that their operations do not affect the safety and wellbeing of other citizens and vowed to sanction any of such erring.

    “The agencies also warned the operators of Sol beach, the good beaches, landmark beach and other social centres across the State to ensure that adequate considerations are made towards the safety and wellbeing of their neighbours and citizens of the State during the Yuletide.”

    UK rapper, Stefflon Don, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Ice Prince and a host of others joined Afro-fusion artiste, Burna Boy at Club Quilox to celebrate his BET win.  Burna Boy was recently announced the winner of the Best International Act award at the just concluded 2019 BET Awards.

    Stefflon Don, who is visiting Nigeria for the first time, supported her boyfriend. Stefflon Don and her boyfriend, Burna, met earlier this year when she missed her flight while on a trip to Ghana and decided to attend a show where Burna Boy performed. The lovebirds have been together since and even attended the BET Award show together.

    Whilst speaking at the celebration, Burna Boy said: “Thank you everyone for supporting me and standing by me all these years. As Africans, we need to stick together and have a unified voice. This BET award is for Nigeria and Africa.”

    The celebration which was put together by the BET Nigeria Team, also had in attendance Sammy Walsh, Ernest Rabbi Audu, Larry Gaga, Sensei Uche and Nenny B who also joined in celebrating the African giant.

    Congratulating Burna Boy, Country Manager, VIMN Africa, Bada Akintunde-Johnson stated “We are indeed ecstatic to celebrate Burna Boy and his incredible win at the BET Awards today,” Akintunde-Johnson said.

    “This win further reiterates the fact that Nigerian music is a force to be reckoned with in the global industry and cannot be overlooked.”

    The 19th annual BET Awards show held on 23rd June 2019 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony celebrates the achievements in entertainment and honours music, sports, television and films.

    QUILOX nightclub, according to its management, may be shut down for a month by the end of June.

    Sources close to Shina Peller, owner of the night club, revealed that the break might be during the Holy month of Ramadan.

    Peller, according to the sources, is a devout Muslim who always observes the Holy month of fasting with strong religious principles.

    Findings revealed that the club had a schedule in place that includes seasonal breaks during the Holy Month and other special events spread across the various seasons of its calendar.

    Quilox is expected to re-open after the break in grand style, as is customary for this elegant and exclusive nightclub.

    The nightclub, which is popularly known for its Las Vegas-style theme, has held many successful events and parties in the past years.

    Reason, we gathered, is not unconnected with the coming Ramadan. The Managing Director, Shina Abiola-Peller, who has just returned from the recently held Nightclub and Bar Convention, in Las Vegas, U,S., is a devout Muslim.

    Since Quilox opened its doors for business in December 2013, it has set and maintained a very high standard in the Lagos nightlife.
