The management of the institution made this known when it hosted dignitaries, including Muslim scholars, Quranic teachers, friends, parents and associates at the centre.

Alhaji Hassan stated that the centre offers teaching on a wide range of subjects including nahw, tajweed, sarf, tawheed, fiqh, akhlaaq, among others but the memorisation of Qur’an remains the primary focus at the institute.

Alhaja Hassan said Fajr Centre was borne out of her husband’s passion for training young people.

She said: “We have been on Fajr Centre for a while. Even before formalising it to be a centre, we had always been training boys here. This is because of my husband’s interest in training children. I have also developed that interest.

“My husband is known for training people. But responsibilities and assignments do take him away from it. When we brought up the idea of Fajr, we registered it and commenced in 2019. Surprisingly, that was when he was given an appointment, and he told me to carry on.”

According to her, the pre-graduation event was organised to mobilise public support for the centre.

  • Knowing the Qu’ran

Reading any book has a purpose and a method. No good reader will ever read a book without taking note of its author, its publisher and its date of publication. And to read any new book, the very first point of call is its contents which tell you the topics and the subjects you will read about in it.

The word Qur’an means continuous recitation. It is so called because of its inimitable origin which makes it a compelling daily reading throughout the world, across nations and ages. It is the unsurpassable word of Allah not only in the grandeur of its diction and splendour of its rendition but also in the depth of its meaning, substance and profundity.

The revelation of this Glorious Book to mankind through an unlettered desert Arab, Muhammad son of Abdullah and Aminah, began in 610 CE. It lasted 22 years and three months (10 years in Makkah and12 years plus three months in Madinah). The book contains 114 chapters and 6236 verses (not 6666 verses often taught by most Imams and Alfas). Of these 114 chapters, 86 were revealed in Makkah and 28 in Madinah. But the 28 chapters revealed in Madinah constitute two thirds of the Book. And this is because the Makkah chapters are short and rhythmic while those of Madinah are long and prose-like.

Although the Qur’an was revealed orally, its writing began almost immediately the revelations started. The writing was however done on primitive materials like wood, animal hides, back of trees and other materials of the like which were then readily available. It was only much later, after the demise of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), that those writings were rendered into a book form. And one of the wonders of recording the Qur’an is the classification of those revelations into chapters and verses by the Prophet himself despite his illiteracy.

Qur’an’s main appeal is to man’s intellect, feelings and imagination. But it also gives insight into some natural phenomena like sphericity and revolution of the earth (Q. 39:5) the formation of rain (Q. 30:48); the fertilization of the wind (Q. 15:22); the revolution of the sun, the moon and the planets in their fixed orbit (Q. 36:29-38); the aquatic origin of all creatures (Q. 21:30); the duality of the sex of plants and other creatures (Q. 36:35); the collective life of animals (Q.6:38); the mode of life of the bees (Q. 16:69) and the successive phases of the child in the mother’s womb (Q. 22:5 & 23:14). Yet, the purpose of this Book is not to teach history, astronomy, philosophy or sciences. That is the Qur’an for you, an incomparable divine book of all ages and times.

  • Commissioner urges stakeholders collaboration on ending fuel scarcity

Commissioner urges stakeholders collaboration on ending fuel scarcity

The Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr Abdul-Hakeem Abdul-Lateef, has appealed to stakeholders in the oil industry to collaborate in addressing the current fuel scarcity in the country.

Abdul-Lateef made this appeal on Thursday in an interview at Odosengolu, near Ijebu-Ode in Ogun.

The commissioner was speaking on the side-line of the formal closing of the 24th National Islamic Training Programme ( NITP ) organised by The Muslim Congress ( TMC ).

The theme of the NITP training was “Witnessing Unto Mankind”.

He described the fuel scarcity as “man inhumanity to man’’ and challenged fuel marketers to be sincere, just and avoid inflating the price or hoarding the commodity.

“Some people, because of the desire to increase the fuel price, have started to hoard the commodity and begin another chapter in our unimpressive attitude.

“I think the marketers and all the stakeholders must have the fear of God in mind and understand that life is not all about money.

“Life is about the happiness of all; because if we continue to impoverish Nigeria at the expense of so many people, we will continue to give birth to criminality,’’ Abdul-Lateef said.

Earlier, the President of TMC, Dr Luqman Abdur-Raheem explained that the NITP was a camping programme designed to build the spiritual, intellectual and social capacities of Muslims.

“At NITP, we learn Quran, Hadith, Fiqhu, Current Affairs and Issues around the Muslim world.

“It provides a platform for knowledge-sharing, socialisation and networking.

“This is the 24th edition, during which members and leadership of TMC rub minds on peaceful coexistence, nation-building and the development of Islam in all ramifications,’’ Abdur-Raheem sai.

He noted that the Muslim community was in a trying period when the Muslims, the mosques and Islamic symbols of Hijab for female Muslims are under attacks.

“We advise all Muslims to protect Islam with all resources at their disposal.

“But bombing, sabotage and killings of innocent persons are not lawful means for calling and witnessing unto mankind.

“These are methods of terrorists. Terrorists in Nigeria and in the Arab world have stolen our physical appearance and pretend to be Muslims.

“They have satanic and cultic ideologies, which are antithetical to Islam – a phenomenon of Muslim Identity Theft.

“We restate our organisation’s commendation to the Federal Government in its fight against corruption, economic sabotage, indiscipline, terrorism and impunity.

“The government is making appreciable progress but there is need for the Muslims and Non-Muslims to provide workable template from our heavenly revealed religions to the three tiers of government.

“We should also accompany this with prayers and cooperation for national development,’’ Abdur-Raheem said.

  • Niger wants parents to feed, pay for children seeking Islamic knowledge

Niger wants parents to feed, pay for children seeking Islamic knowledge

Niger government says that parents of children sent to the state to seek Islamic knowledge will now come along with foodstuff for feeding of their children and pay fees for their upkeep.

Mrs Mairam Kolo, Director-General of Niger State Child Rights Protection Agency, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Tuesday.

Kolo said the government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Islamic school teachers against street begging.

She said Gov. Abubakar Bello had approved that the agency enter an agreement with teachers that parents whose children were sent to the schools bring along  foodstuff and pay a fee to stop them from begging.

“This new development is to make sure that children are kept off the street and ensure that they are treated properly and their rights enforced and protected.

“The agreement reached is between the state government, teachers of Islamic schools and parents who bring their children to learn.
“If these children are sent to learn, then they should not be seen on streets begging, therefore, the agreement is that, the children will not be put to beg and will be properly taken care of,” she said.

Kolo noted that the essence was to provide decent accommodation and food for the children for effective learning.

She added that the teachers had been directed to get accurate numbers of pupils in each school to enable the government to know the number of children sent to learn in the state.

“The governor is not saying he does not want Islamic schools in the state but that the rights of these children are protected.

“We don’t want strangers coming into our state littering our streets and becoming nuisance. Every child sent to learn in the state must be properly documented.

“And so far, there has been compliance from the teachers as they have been coming to sign this agreement with us.

“The teachers will now go and reach a unified agreement with parents on the fee to be paid and the amount of food they will provide on monthly basis,” she said.

The director-general stressed that street begging was not Islamic and added that the agency would ensure constant monitoring of the schools to ensure compliance by teachers and parents.

She warned that any teacher who failed to comply with the agreement would be prosecuted in accordance with the law against street begging.

“There is need to properly educate the public because in the Qu’ran, it is allowed to travel far to seek Islamic knowledge but street begging is not allowed.

“These children sent to learn should do so in conducive  environments like any other child;  they should have basic right to good health, good place to study, good food and good place to sleep,” she added.

Kolo said the agency had  commenced sensitisation in various communities on the need to protect the rights of children.

  • ‘Use Qur’an to solve problems’

An Islamic scholar, Alhaji Abdul Azeez Kuranga has urged Muslims to exploit the power of the Holy Quar’an in finding solutions to their problems rather than engage in unorthodox practices.

Kuranga said through constant recitation of the Holy Qur’an and regular prayer the problems of a believer will be solved.

He spoke at the Ramadan Lecture of Asejere Quranic Prayer Movement of Nigeria.

He regretted that many Muslims have been misled by some scholars that indulge in associating partners with Allah (Shrik) and deceive them that they have super natural power to solve their problems.

According to him, no human being can solve problems except through constant prayer to Allah. It is Allah that creates problems and it is only He that can solve it, he emphasised.

The scholar said prayer can lead to for forgiveness of sins; triumph of truth over falsehood; destruction of oppressors; increase of knowledge; deliverance from the torment of the enemy; peace of mind and abundance of provision and mercy of Allah and His guidance.

He said through constant prayer, the socio-economic problem facing Nigeria can change for better and the country will bounce back to its former glory.
