  • Ernest Azudialu fades off social radar

ON first encounter, Ernest Azudialu, comes across as a hard worker and a resilient entrepreneur. But while he loves his job and perhaps works harder than most other entrepreneurs, he also parties as hard as a rock star. Surprising, however, his face has been scarce on the social scene for quite a while. These days, trying to find him at a social event or celebrity gig is akin to looking for boiled eggs in a Sallah stew prepared by a rich Muslim woman.

His sudden disappearance has led many to wonder what the multiple business award winner must be up to. The social scene could certainly do with the flamboyance and irreverence which made the fresh-faced founder of Obijackson West Africa once throw a party where things happened that could turn nuns to nursing mothers and make men of God forsake the good news.

But those days seems to have passed away for the top dog at oil and gas giant, Nestoil, as he seems to have swapped parties and bashes with business proposals and boardroom activities. The owner of four private jets, including a Gulfstream four, and no fewer than 20 exotic cars even confessed that he spends a lot of time in the air these days. No wonder he has faded off the social radar.

  • Ameobi not on Sheffield Wednesday radar

Ameobi not on Sheffield Wednesday radar

Sheffield Wednesday Manager, Dave Jones, has rejected speculation that the Championship side are considering an approach for Super Eagles Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi.

Jones has made it no secret that he wants to bolster his forward line before they travel to Queens Park Rangers on the first day of the new season.

And with Newcastle manager Alan Pardew in the market for a striker it was believed that Ameobi would be offloaded by the club after slipping well down the pecking order at St James’ Park last season.

Ameobi is reportedly earning around £22,000 a week at Newcastle, with a year to run on his contract at Tyneside, but Jones has told the Sheffield Star that the Nigerian is not someone he wants to buy.

“I don’t know where people keep getting these names from,” Jones told The Star. People keep linking us with players who are at clubs with far bigger wage bills than ourselves.

“One minute it is Kenwyne Jones and the next it is Shola Ameobi. It is absolutely ridiculous.”

In other news, a Martin Taylor goal was not enough to stop Wednesday heading to a 3-1 defeat in a pre-season friendly against Braga last night.

Next week the Hillsborough outfit will entertain Glasgow Rangers as all focus goes on preparing for the new season ahead.

  • Kojo Anan turns 40, goes off social radar

Kojo Anan turns 40, goes off social radar

Kojo Anan is the only son of the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Anan, and his wife, Titi Alakija. Blessed with good looks, charm and wealth, Kojo is a man with almost everything at his disposal.

The fun-loving dude turns 40 in a few weeks, and the social firmament is waiting for his initiation into the league of 40-year-olds.

The list of silver-spoon kids would not be complete without a mention of this handsome young man. Having grown up in Ikoyi, Lagos, he maintains thea same standing with other Lagos big boys like the Ladi Baloguns, the Maje Ayidas, the Laolu Sarakis and the Abi Kukus, to mention a few.

But one thing that makes Kojo different is his refusal to take a plunge into marriage. Although he was rumoured to be waving goodbye to bachelorhood sometime in 2012, the rumour has definitely not seen the light of day.

With 40 comes great responsibilities, and Kojo seems to share this belief as he seems to have abandoned his penchant for high society parties. As he now turns down virtually every invitation to social events, it could be safe to say that his active days on the social radar are numbered.

The graduate of Keele University appears to be taking life more seriously. With the look of things, marriage may feature prominently on the calendar of the highly eligible bachelor in the near future.

  • Lagos Airport radar equipment in order, say experts

EXPERTS in the aviation industry at the weekend confirmed the workability of the Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria (TRACON), which was installed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, about three years ago.

The confirmation of the effective operation of the radar equipment is coming on the heels of the facility visit by industry’s stakeholders including the Secretary-General of Aviation Roundtable, Mr Sam Akerele, and Captain Kola Abejide.

Akerele told reporters after the visit: “What we have now is a complete radical departure from the past. The old order cannot continue. The new radar is a good thing to happen to this generation as we can see that flights are properly vectored by the controllers without stress.”

He noted that comments by some stakeholders had been rather speculative as, according to him, they lacked technical knowledge on the workings of TRACON.

He stressed that their visit was to educate those members who had dismissed TRACON as a mere terminal radar and let them see that the radar covers the shores of Nigeria and beyond.

He described the new radar as a state-of-the-art equipment that could compete favourably with those in developed countries in Europe and America.

He added that the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) “should be commended for the efficient and optimal performance of its radar and communication system.”

Aviation Roundtable, is a non- profit-making professional body. Its membership, he said, includes air traffic controllers, pilots, aircraft&system engineers, technicians and marketers.

The Secretary-General, who led members on a fact-finding tour of facilities at the agency, said their visit became imperative, following embarrassing comments made to journalists by some stakeholders who, according to him, had not been privileged to visit TRACON and hence, might not know how the radar works.

Akerele expressed gratitude to the Managing Director of NAMA , Mazi Nnamdi Udoh, an engineer, for granting them access to the facilities. He also expressed the hope that their visit would educate misinformation and enlighten misinformed members about the safety of the Nigerian airspace.

Also in his remarks, another member of the organisation Capt. Kola Abejide, said he was very excited at what he had seen and that he was grateful to God that “this milestone is happening in our generation.”

He urged NAMA to continue to improve on its good job.

The new radar, it was learnt, has four main locations in Lagos,Portharcourt,Abuja and Kano Airports with five remote stations at Ilorin, Maiduguri,Obubura, Numan and Talata Mafara.

  • Haruna on CSKA Moscow’s radar

    Haruna on CSKA Moscow’s radar

Dynamo Kiev’s Lukman Haruna could be the second Nigerian player at CSKA Moscow in the coming months, to join Ahmed Musa in the Russian capital.

According to reports on FootballTransfer.com.ua, a leading voice on the Ukrainian transfer market on Thursday, the Russian club are targeting the former Golden Eaglets skipper as reinforcement in the winter transfer market.

A source of the Army Team confirmed that the club is willing to do business with Dynamo Kiev for Haruna.

”Lukman very early showed good match quality, but lately he has not been able to reveal all his possibilities. While the probability of transfer is too early to say, it is possible that Haruna will be in CSKA. On what terms, it’s too soon to speak, but it’s quite possible that the player maybe rented (signed on loan),” the source was quoted as saying by footballtransfer.com.ua.

Haruna is not guaranteed playing time at Dynamo Kiev. After 11 matches in the Ukrainian championship, the central midfielder has made only two appearances for the Kievites.
