  • Ondo youths rally support for Buhari, Boroffice

Scores of youths, under the aegis of Concerned Ondo North Youths (CONY), met on Monday in Akure, the state capital, to back President Muhammadu Buhari and the senator representing Ondo North, Prof Ajayi Boroffice.

They passed a vote of confidence in the two All Progressives Party (APC) stalwarts seeking another term in office.

The group, led by Olusuyi Ajayi, eulogised President Buhari and Senator Boroffice.

They noted that the President had lifted the country in the last three years, while Boroffice, with his achievements, should be allowed to consolidate his “enviable work”.

The youths said their resolve to support Boroffice for a third term was based on his performance and his support for the Buhari administration.

The group expressed their support after a roadshow in Akure attended by market women, civil servants and students.

Ajayi promised to replicate the meeting in each of the six local government areas in Ondo North before the APC senatorial primary.

CONY members said Boroffice’s proactive representation resulted in the construction of Emergency Obstetrics Hospital,  skilla acquisition centres, bio-fuel ethanol plant,  provision of potable water in the six local government areas, interest-free loans and his assistance in securing Federal appointments for graduates, among others.

The group hailed the Buhari administration for its anti-graft crusade, adding that the country would have collapsed if the President had lost the 2015 election.

It urged the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, to repair the Owo-Ikare, Akungba-Isua and Ipele-Kabba roads, which they said have become almost impassable.

At the meeting, a motion for endorsement of President Buhari and Boroffice was moved by a youth leader, Olakoyenikan Williams, and supported by Alhaja Modupe Akadiri, with over 1,000 youths present.

  • Assembly by-election: Ajimobi, others rally support for APC candidate

Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi has urged the electorate in Ibarapa to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in tomorrow’s House of Assembly by-election, Mr. Olukunle Adeyemo.

The governor described him as the best among the candidates.

The seat became vacant following the death of the former Speaker Michael Adeyemo on April 27.

Addressing a crowd of party supporters at a campaign rally at Eruwa, the governor urged the people to reciprocate the good gesture of his administration, as exemplified by the several completed and ongoing projects in the area.

Ajimobi led the campaign train of the APC leaders and supporters, including his wife, Florence, APC State Chairman Akin Oke, members of the House of Representatives, Assembly members, led by Speaker Olagunju Ojo, members of the State Executive Council (Exco) and Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN).

He said: “Ibarapa people are very close and dear to me. I can unequivocally say that Ibarapa has taken a front burner since I became the governor of this state. The access road to Ibarapa, which had long been abandoned, received the needed attention under my administration.

“Past administrations had merely patched the road. But when we came on board, we decided to reconstruct and dualise it. Similarly, Ibarapa Polytechnic used to be a satellite campus of the Polytechnic in Ibadan. But today, it has become an autonomous polytechnic, courtesy of our administration.

“Apart from these, we are also working on the provision of potable water for Ibarapa, which is located at Ayete. We have nearly completed the project, and it will certainly extend here. Ninety per cent of the work has been completed. It will serve several communities around here.

“But I am hearing certain things from the grapevine about Eruwa. Some people are complaining that we created more local council development areas (LCDAs) and reviewed the existing boundary delineation.

“Whatever the case may be, these are minor issues that should be resolved through dialogue. Let’s settle them amicably. When our father, the Alaafin of Oyo (Oba Lamidi Adeyemi), pointed out some of our oversights during a similar exercise in Oyo, we resolved the issues peacefully.

“This won’t be different. I’m a man of peace and I’m appealing to our people in Eruwa to embrace dialogue on the matter.”

The campaign train had visited the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola, to seek royal blessing for the APC candidate.

  • Tinubu, Aregbesola, others rally support for Ajimobi

Tinubu, Aregbesola, others rally support for Ajimobi

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday led chieftains of the party to the historic Mapo Hall, Ibadan to rally support for Governor Abiola Ajimobi and other candidates of the party in next month’s election.

Tinubu highlighted the reason Nigerians must vote for the APC next month, listing stealing of 400,000 barrels of oil daily unabated and poor performance as among the major reasons.

The former Lagos State Governor accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of spreading poverty through its poor performance and corrupt practices, saying the only solution is for Nigerians to reject all its candidates in the coming and election and vote for the APC’s instead.

He urged Oyo State voters to allow their conscience to guide them in determining the best candidate that deserve their votes.

According to him, the great feat of the Ajimobi, the APC governorship candidate, are unparalleled in the state.

He listed the rebuilding of Agodi Gardens, dualisation of roads, massive infrastructural development and welfare packages for the people as among the reasons Ajimobi deserves their votes.

“They steal 400,000 barrels of oil every day. Yet, President Goodluck Jonathan said he could not see this and he claims he is still in charge.

“He is no longer fit to rule this country. Let us send them packing on February 14 by voting for the APC at the national level and for Ajimobi on February 28,” he said.

He added: “Governor Ajimobi has demonstrated that he has vision, capacity and capability to make people the cornerstone of his administration. This is what Ajimobi represents in Oyo State and he has been consistent with it.

“Today, when you drive through Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, you see beautiful scenery, clean environment, good road network, new flyover, Asejire waterworks, Agodi Gardens, new markets, you will be proud of having somebody like him in the saddle. Indeed, Oyo is now a huge construction site.”

Tinubu said it was regrettable that in spite of all entreaties to former Governor Rashidi Ladoja to team up with Ajimobi to develop Oyo State, he (Ladoja) insisted on floating a party that lacks regional or national spread.

Describing the Accord Party governorship candidate as an ingrate, he said that he had nothing to offer the people of the state, having demonstrated gross incompetence during his tenure as governor.

In his own speech, Aregbesola also accused the PDP of funding President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign team, the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) through proceeds from fraudulent handling of sale of kerosene.

According to him, the federal government deliberately sells a litre of kerosene to cronies at N40:90 while the cronies sell to marketers at N95 per litre. The huge difference, the governor said, is what PDP is using to fund campaigns and enrich cronies.

He challenged the PDP to sue him to court over the facts.

While addressing the people, Ajomobi rubbished criticism of his administration, saying he has outperformed his predecessors, two of who are also in the February 28, 2015 race.

Ajimobi listed six major projects undertaken by his administration, which he said are unprecedented.

He also pointed out that no fewer than eight big companies have opened shops in the state due to the investor-friendly nature of his administration’s policies.

These include the largest cooking oil factory, largest bread factory, largest Shoprite store, 100,000 production capacity chicks producing factory and Nigeria’s largest Information and Communication Technology (ICT) service providing firm.

Besides, Ajimobi listed his achievements to include recruitment of 20,000 youths, construction of modern markets for traders with provision of interest-free trading capital, free buses for civil servants and students as well as improved welfare package for workers and restorers.

The governor listed sustenance of a peaceful environment and massive infrastructural development as chief among his achievements.

He challenged his predecessors to show their own score cards.

Also at the rally were other leaders of the party including Chief Bisi Akande, Eng. Segun Oni, Dr Kayode Fayemi and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola who also addressed the mammoth crowd.

The entire Mapo hill beamed at the seams with crowd of supporters and enthusiastic residents who came to witness the campaign.

  • Youths rally support for governor’s re-election

Some youths under the auspices of the Youth Traders’ Association have launched a campaign to rally support for the re-election of Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi.

The campaign was launched by members of the association in the popular Erekesan Market, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, with a visit to the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe.

The youths also visited stalls within the sprawling ware point to  widen the support base of the incumbent governor among traders.

Waving banners with various inscriptions on the landmarks of the Fayemi-led administration, the youths urged traders to return the government to office with their votes on June 21.

Their spokesman, Mr. Opeyemi Fakayode, said the mobilisation became necessary because of the innovation Dr Fayemi has brought into governance and turning Ado-Ekiti to a befitting capital city.

Backing the youths, an apolitical organisation – Modupe Adelabu Support Group, noted that the state has witnessed tremendous progress under the Fayemi administration.

The Group’s Coordinator, Prince Diran Aladesanmi, said the state capital has been a major beneficiary of transformational programmes  since Fayemi mounted the saddle as governor.

Aladesanmi described as laudable legacies the infrastructure provided by the government.

  • Aregbesola, Oshiomhole, Afe Babalola, Adebayo rally support for Fayemi

Aregbesola, Oshiomhole, Afe Babalola, Adebayo rally support for Fayemi

Before a massive crowd of eminent citizens and ordinary folks, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi rededicated yesterday his administration to the people’s service.

He got support from among others, Governors Adams Oshiomole (Edo) and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun); former Governor Niyi Adebayo; founder of the Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) and National Assembly members from Ekiti State.

They urged the people to support Fayemi to enable him continue the “good work he started three years ago”.

They spoke yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, during a rally marking the third anniversary of the Fayemi administration at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium.

Fayemi was inaugurated Governor on October 16, 2010.

Recalling how he and other indigenes fought for the state’s creation, Babalola said he would identify with any administration pursuing the vision of the founding fathers, adding that Fayemi, who is “doing that”, must be supported.

He said: “I congratulate you on this historic event. For about two decades now, I, the Ewi and some others fought for the creation of Ekiti State. The idea was to develop the state and make it the best in Nigeria, and for that purpose, Ekiti is my project. The project was designed to bring prosperity to Ekiti and whoever is doing that for us is my friend. Therefore, Fayemi is my friend for that purpose. Every reasonable and patriotic person must support whoever is developing the state and he (Fayemi) is doing that.”

Oshiomhole said Ekiti people were fortunate to have Fayemi as their governor; adding that with Fayemi in the saddle, “things are changing for good”.

He said Fayemi had delivered on the mandate given to him by the people, especially with the Social Security Scheme for the elderly and the “huge” investment in education and human capital.

Oshiomhole said: “I have come here to join the great people of Ekiti to celebrate as they move out of the era of lamentations of poor infrastructure to an era of infrastructural development. Fayemi has shown that everything is possible. As we speak, Ekiti is work-in-progress. It has moved from deficit to positive. If something is not broken, you cannot fix it. When we see what works, we associate with it.”

Aregbesola said Fayemi had justified the confidence reposed in him by the people. He said Fayemi’s interest in next year’s governorship poll was to consolidate on the development he started in 2010.

Adebayo said the transformation made by the administration was visible and urged the people to support Fayemi to continue beyond 2014.

Representatives of the state in the National Assembly canvassed Fayemi’s re-election.

Fayemi thanked the people for their support.

He said he rose to power through the people’s mandate and would continue to protect their interest.

The governor urged aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to return to the fold and support his administration in developing the state, “especially now that members of the opposition parties are defecting to APC”.

He said: “You have not seen anything yet. We are ready to bring everybody on board. This train of development is on the move and those who fail to join it will be left behind at the bus stop.

“We must not relent in the struggle to make life more abundant for our people through the implementation of our eight-point agenda, which is about empowering our people. We are your servants and not your masters. We will ensure that the development, which has started and is seen by everybody, continues.

“I am not tired, because there is more to come from the arsenal that has brought this development to Ekiti.”

  • Osun monarchs rally support for Aregbesola

Traditional rulers in the Osun Divisional Conference of Obas have rallied support for Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

They urged their subjects to support the Osun State Governor in his determination to transform the state.

The Obas, in a communiqué signed by their Chairman, the Orangun of Ila, Oba Kayode Oyedotun and Secretary, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdulrasheed Olabomi, after their meeting at the Akirun’s palace in Ikirun, said Ogbeni Aregbesola deserved to be supported because of the developmental projects his administration is embarking upon.

They said they have watched with interest, the governor’s passion and action in giving the indigenes a new lease of life.

They listed some of his achievements since assuming office on November 27, 2010 as the introduction of Opon-Imo (Knowledge Tablet), the hosting of Oduduwa Children’s Day, reduction in unemployment in the state and poverty reduction.

The monarchs, who described the Opon-Imo as revolutionary and the first anywhere in the world, said Governor Aregbesola brought children from the Yoruba-speaking states and beyond together to celebrate their ancestry through the Oduduwa Children’s Day.

They noted the governor’s effort in reducing unemployment, saying according to the record of the Federal Office of Statistics, Osun State has the lowest rate of unemployment.

The traditional rulers also referred to the Federal Office of Statistics that said Osun has the lowest rate of poverty, coming second after Niger State.
