‘How septuagenarian was raped to death’

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court yesterday heard how Jelili Lawal allegedly raped a 78-year-old woman to death.

Led in evidence by Lagos State counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, an Investigative Police Officer (IPO), ASP Babatunde Ashifat, told the court that he was assigned the case for investigation on January 2, 2019.

The witness told the court that the victim, who had problem with her ears, had been declared missing by her family.

The witness said the old woman was with the defendant on January 1, 2019, at Maryland bus stop in Lagos State, where she told him to help her locate her residence.

He said: “The defendant gave her N500, and they boarded the same bus.

“On getting to a bus stop, the defendant told her to come down, took her to an uncompleted building in a bushy area, assaulted and raped her at night.

“The victim was crying for help when two women heard her and caught the defendant in the act.”

He said the women called the attention of a policeman on night patrol, who arrested the defendant.

The IPO said the victim sustained injuries from the rape and later died from excessive bleeding due to the rape.

“The victim was bleeding from her private parts and I gave a medical form for her to be taken to Mirabel Medical Centre.

“The doctor, who examined her, confirmed that there was forceful penetration into her private parts.”

“I was later told that the victim died due to the bleeding,” the witness said.

The IPO said after the report was made, he recorded statements of the victim and the defendant.

He said he visited the scene of the crime, which was bushy and abandoned.

Justice Rahman Oshodi adjourned the case till October 27 for the continuation of trial.

  • Girl, 6, relives how man, 39, raped her

Six-year-old girl in Ikorodu has told The Nation how she was raped by a 39-year-old neighbour, Benjamin Akande on July 27.

The incident happened at their Ikorodu, Lagos residence where both Akande and the girl’s parent live as tenants.

The girl said Akande sent her groundnut and raped her in his room after delivering the goods.

She said: “He asked me to buy him groundnut and when I got back, I told him I want to ease myself, but he didn’t allow me to; he said I should come relax. I heard people calling my name and I told him I wanted to go, but he did not let me go. He laid me on the ground, removed my trouser; he also removed his own trouser and laid on me. When I heard people still calling my name, I told him I wanted to go but he didn’t allow me and he covered my mouth with cloth.

“He later took me to a school compound in our area and warned me never to tell anyone what happened, else he will beat me. He poured sand on my head and told me to tell those calling me that I was playing in the school compound.”

The Nation gathered that Akande was arrested by officers from Owutu Police Division.

The girl’s mother, Kudirat Olaniyi, a food vendor said she normally keeps her children with the landlord’s wife when she is going out and pick them from there when she returns.

“On that Friday, I set out for work around 12:30pm. Her father, a commercial bus driver, had left around 4am. We returned around 4pm that day. I was told that they were looking for my daughter at a point, but that she had been found, though she refused to tell anyone where she was.

“Around 7pm, while I was preparing their food, I asked my daughter where she went to but she said nothing.  When I slapped her, she said it was Brother Benjamin that sent her to buy groundnut and asked her to come into his room. She said he undressed her and also himself. She said he laid her on the ground and laid on her. I asked her what she did when she heard people calling out her name, she said she told him she wanted to go and meet them but he covered her mouth with cloth. She told me that when people stopped calling her name, he took her to a school at the back of our house, put sand on her head and told her if people ask where she was, she should tell them she was playing in the school.”

Mrs Olaniyi said when Akande was been arrested, he threatened her that he would retaliate.

The landlord’s wife, who simply identified herself as Alhaja Akoninikewu, said: “The girl and her brother were playing with my children in our shop because I was attending to visitors in my house. When it was time to go to the mosque, we noticed that this girl was nowhere to be found, we searched for her, shouting her name everywhere but all was to no avail. I told the children to go to the mosque and we later found her in a school compound with sand on her head. We asked where she had been and what she was doing but she said nothing, until her mother spoke with her later in the day.”

The Deputy Coordinator of Child Protection Network (CPN), Alhaji Lateef Akinborode, said his organisation took the matter up immediately the information got to them.

“Immediately the father of the girl informed us about the case, we informed the Lagos State Police Command and the case is now in court,” he said.

  • How I was abducted, raped repeatedly and brutalised for five days, by undergraduate (II)

It’s by far one of the most horrific experiences any young girl could be subjected to. Five days of abduction, rape and the worst of brutalisation. This is the concluding part of the story of Cece (not real name), and her roommate, undergraduates of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU who were abducted by a supposedly movie producer. By DORCAS EGEDE.

    DAY four, Friday, 25th May

“The morning of Friday, my roommate came to tell me that Taylor said he needed N20,000 and was asking how we could arrange for the money. I told her that I would call someone. She went to tell him. But he came into the room and said, ‘You that told your roommate, don’t come, don’t come, you want to call someone else and say, don’t send, don’t send.’ I told him I wasn’t going to do that, but he got angry, said I was arguing with him because I could speak English and slapped me so forcefully, my head hit the wall. I couldn’t understand what I did to earn that slap.

“He then gave me my phone to call. I called a friend of mine and told him I needed money for school stuff, but he said he had just stocked his shop and could only part with N10,000. Taylor switched on my roommate’s phone and a call came in from one of my 100-Level roommates. He asked my roommate to put the phone on speaker. The caller said my dad had been trying to reach me for the past few days that I should try and get back to him. She asked if my roommate had seen me, and Taylor told her to say no. She did. He now ended the call and asked me to call my dad. My dad didn’t pick at first, but he called back. He sounded worried. He asked where I had been and I told him my phone was bad and I was repairing it.”

As it were, it was as if Taylor’s prayer was being answered. Cece’s father informed her that he wanted to send her tuition fee. Despite her insistence that it wasn’t time to pay her fees yet, as the portals were yet to be opened to those of them that switched department, he told her he would send the money anyway, and she could keep it till it was time to pay. All along, Taylor who had just been discussing about raising N20,000, was smiling as he listened on. “When I dropped the call, he said, ‘oh, you wanted to trick your father not to send the money? I knew you were going to do something like that. That’s how you told your friend not to come; now you’re telling your father not to send the money. Instead of you to be happy that your father wants to bail you out with this N20,000.’ “I tried to explain why I didn’t want my father to send the money because I couldn’t pay the fees as a result of changing my course. He got angry again and asked Segun to remove the wire connecting his bulb in the parlour and used it to flog me. He went and brought one walking stick and flogged me with it. As he did, he hushed my roommate to silence with the threat of beating her too. My roommate urinated on her body where she stood helplessly watching him beat me.

“He told me that the friend I called wasn’t going to send the money, that I called someone as stupid as myself. He threatened to call my father and blackmail him into paying N1.5m. I didn’t know what to say. At some point, my roommate and I thought this was the way we would end, but we kept telling each other that everything would be fine.

Soon, my father sent the N20,000. After my dad sent the N20,000, he told me that if by 4:58, my friend didn’t send the N10,000, he was going to kill me and would have no choice but to kill my roommate. He asked her if she contacted the police before coming, she told him she didn’t have an idea anything was wrong and didn’t tell the police anything.

“Now, there was N30,000 in my account. But instead of that to placate him, he started another issue ‘How can your father just send the money like that? You haven’t called your father throughout this week and he just sent you money? Does any father send his child money without the child disturbing him? You and your father have conspired to call the police, right? You don’t know I’m the one that designed the first ATM machine? If someone is at your back holding a gun to you that you should withdraw your money, just press your pin backward; in the next five minutes, the police will be behind the person.’”

“When we told him we didn’t know this, he called Segun and told him to leave the ATM machine immediately if it does not respond to his command. Thereafter, he and Segun left. He locked me and my roommate in the room till nightfall. We got dressed and waited, hoping that when they returned, he would give us some money to return to Ife as he promised. However, when he returned at night, he took another look at me and said, ‘I want to treat your fuck-up.’ He said he wanted to treat my-fuck up because up till that time I still wasn’t scared of him. He then told me to remain in the room: ‘I don’t want to see your face. I am irritated by your face.’  I was in the room when I overheard him saying he was going to call someone to treat my fuck up.

“I later heard him calling a guy he told to ‘show,’ because he has money. While I was still in the room, he told my roommate that he was going to take her out to see how she would act in public; that he couldn’t take me out because he didn’t trust me. He kept a screw driver in his pocket. He took her out and locked me in the room. In less than five minutes, they returned. He continued the talk about treating my fuck-up.

Soon, his friend showed up. The girls soon learnt that the new guys name was Ola. “Taylor introduced my roommate to the guy as his girlfriend. He then asked my roommate to bring me from the room. She did. When she brought me to the parlour, Taylor told the guy that I said my greatest fantasy was to be gang raped by 10 guys. The guy looked at me as if to ask if I really said that. Then, the guy asked me if I wanted to speak with him privately. I said yes.

“This apparently angered our abductor and again he gave me another ferocious slap. He asked what I wanted to talk to his friend about. He faced the guy and asked, ‘Ola, what do you want to talk to this girl about?’ Ola said he just wanted to talk to me privately, but Taylor refused and reiterated, ‘I said this girl wants to be gang-raped by 10 guys, she doesn’t need talking to. She wants to be treated like a dog…’ he tried to rip off my shirt in front of Ola. He hit me as I tried to struggle with him. He unbuttoned my shirt, brought out my breast and said, ‘Can’t you see, she has beautiful breasts?’

“Ola asked me why I wanted to be gang-raped by 10 guys; I told him it is out of peer pressure. At this point Ola stood up and said he wanted to go home. He left. Then Taylor came to me and said, ‘You see, you’re possessed. Nobody wants to sleep with you; even Segun that is an illiterate said you’re dirty. I must still treat your fuck up this night. He continued hammering on why I told my roommate, ‘don’t come, don’t come.’ and brutalised me on every occasion.

“Later that night, I was sitting on a chair close to him while he was eating moi-moi. This Stevie, he eats raw pepper. The moi-moi he was eating, apart from being hot, was also very peppery. He tried to slap me and as I tried to block him, he put the moi-moi in his hands into my private part! The pain I felt, I cannot explain. He mocked me that I’m dancing, and that by the time he finished with me, he would leave a mark on my body that I will always remember him for.

“He then forced me to write down my parent’s home address. I didn’t write the correct address. I just wrote down whatever came to my mind. He called one number he saved as Agbara and told him he had a mission for him, ‘I want make this girl fear me, hope I’m covered?’ he said. I was crying and begging. The guy he called asked him to send him the address. When he ended the call, he told Segun to tear the paper. He did and I thanked him.

“Still not satisfied, he instructed his partner to tie me hands and feet. “Segun dragged the rope so tight that my hands hurt. After a while, he told Segun to release me, that a human being is not meant to be treated like that. Yet, he said he wasn’t through with me.

“That same night, he asked me and my roommate what we thought of gays and lesbians. I said, “I don’t know, but I guess it’s bad. Then he proceeded to lecture us on it, and forced me to go down on my roommate. I don’t have the words to describe how I felt. We were both crying. He was slapping my head with the cutlass, saying I wasn’t doing it well enough. Meanwhile, my roommate was telling him, ‘She’s doing it, she’s doing it’ but he didn’t listen. He kept hitting me to do it better and was videoing it. “After this, he asked my roommate to convince Segun to sleep with me, if we really wanted to go home the next day. I was in the room later and Segun came in and said, ‘The boss said if I don’t do it, he will not allow you people to go tomorrow.’”

“Segun slept with me that night!”

    Day five, Saturday, 26th May

“The next morning, Ola came with ori (shea butter) and abokini balm (mentholated cream). Before Ola saw me, Taylor told him that we’ve gone so that Ola will not arrange 10 guys to gang-rape me. Ola was just nodding in agreement and laughing. He told Ola that he wanted to take me and my roommate to Ado-Ekiti. This information made me really scared, because if no one could find us in Ilesha that is so close to Ife, who would know our whereabouts in Ado-Ekiti, a place I’ve never been before? He said he was not going to force us, that we would talk about it.

“My roommate and I went into the room to talk about it. She said she’s not sure about this Ado-Ekiti, and I said neither was I, but then, we both knew we had no say in the matter, whether we liked it or not, we would go to Ado-Ekiti if Taylor wanted us to. We went back to the parlour.

“When we returned to the parlour, Taylor took my roommate to a corner in the room to talk to her. Ola then asked where my parents were. I told him. He asked me where I schooled. I told him. Then, he said, ‘How did you find yourself in Ilesha?’ I told him I didn’t even know. Then he asked, ‘Do you really want to go to Ado-Ekiti?’ I told him I didn’t have any choice. Then he asked one last question before Taylor returned with my roommate, ‘Do you want to leave here?’ I told him yes. Taylor asked what we were talking about and Ola told him nothing.

“Ola stood up and told Taylor he wanted to go and eat amala somewhere in the area. Taylor told him Segun was cooking, but he insisted that it was amala he wanted to eat and left. Less than 30 minutes after that, the police arrived. We were meant to leave for Ado-Ekiti at 2:00pm, but the police came around past 12noon.”

    Unveiling the rapist

A BACKGROUND check on Taylor via his social media accounts revealed a normal everyday person. His posts are not suggestive of the kind of behavior and evil he allegedly perpetrated on poor Cece and her friend, while his photos of studio gadgets and guitar, suggest someone active in the entertainment industry, hence one could hardly blame Cece for falling prey.

In one of his posts, he wrote: “I got my first guitar when I was fourteen, now I am in my forties, and still wearing jeans. Happy birthday to me jare”

He further wrote: “”While growing up, I had special meals cooked for me on my birthdays. I was pampered and indulged. On other days, ‘Jay Tees’ (sorry that’s what I call my Father) ever waiting cane was handy when I erred. My mom’s hard scolding was never restrained. But sincerely, those were the ice that smouldered my putrescence. I actually wished then that everyday would be 6th of April. So the indulgence would last forever….”

I’m yet to come out of the trauma – Cece’s dad

SPEAKING to The Nation, Cece’s dad said, “Thank God I’m gradually coming out of the trauma. I have not been able to tell people the full detail of what transpired, not even my wife because I don’t want them to be stigmatised. It is necessary they are protected. The idiot that abducted them is in custody and has been charged to court.

Before she went to school, both dad and daughter had agreed that he would send her tuition fees at some point. “On the 21st of May, which was a Monday, she called me to send her a little allowance, so I sent her N5,000. I didn’t call her on Tuesday. When I got the money, I called her on Wednesday, but her phone was switched off. I called the second number, it was switched off. I then called the roommate; her own phone too was switched off.

“On Thursday when I got an alert, I wanted to send her the school fees, so I called again to alert her that I was sending her tuition fees so that it would not enter late registration. When I called that Thursday, her phone was still switched off, even her roommate’s.”

Being someone who speaks often with his daughter, he naturally sensed that something was not right. “It was then I became worried that something might be wrong. I kept calling both of them till day break, but it was not going. I couldn’t sleep.”

Unable to reach her, he checked his phone for numbers of her other friends. After trying several, one belonging to her roommate in 100-level went through. “The girl said she saw my daughter in church on Sunday and on campus on Monday, but hadn’t seen or heard from her since Tuesday. I asked her to help me check on her and let her know that I needed to send her tuition fee. She later told me that she didn’t meet them in the hostel, but that she learnt they hadn’t had light for three days. I believe she said that to assuage my fears about their disappearance.”

“Eventually, she was able to reach her roommate’s Glo line, but nobody picked; so she sent an SMS. Those guys saw the SMS, switched on my daughter’s phone and asked her to call me. When she called me I was with my doctor, I had gone to see him because of the way I was feeling. The doctor was asking me if I was hypertensive because my blood pressure was high. We were still discussing when her call came in. I couldn’t pick immediately, so I called her back.

“When we spoke, she spoke in a way to tell me she was in danger, but I was not decoding. She told me her phone was bad and needed to be changed. I told her that I would change it, but that I wanted to send her tuition fee. She began saying that she changed department and the portal had not been opened, I shouldn’t send the money. I insisted that I would send the money anyway. I felt better having heard her voice.

“I missed her call again on Saturday. When I called back, she told me what she went through. I ran down to Ilesha on Sunday. The police told me that they had taken them to the hospital, but I still brought her home to see my doctor.

    Entreaties

He also revealed that someone, apparently a family to the perpetrator, has been calling from Germany to beg them not to take the matter far. “The first time he called, I dismissed him because I was very mad. He didn’t call me again until the day we went to court, that’s how I know that he’s being fed with information or he’s working with them. I told him, ‘Young man, I don’t know where you’re calling from. I don’t have any case with your uncle, brother or whatever. He has a case with the government and I’m only just a standing witness. So, stop calling me.”

  • Teenage girl raped to death in Anambra

The deceased, said to have just finished her West African Senior Secondary School Examination (WASSCE), was attacked about 7pm on her way to buy garri for dinner.

  • 13-year-old girl raped by 8 men pregnant with twins

13-year-old girl raped by 8 men pregnant with twins

A 13-year-old girl allegedly raped by eight men including an Imam, is said to be five months pregnant with twins in Kubau Local Government, Kaduna State.

Head of Arridah Foundation, Hajiya Rabi Salisu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Kaduna that the case was brought to the organisation to assist the girl in getting justice.

She said that the foundation would mobilise support and follow up the case in court “until justice is done.’’

NAN learnt that the Imam is a neighbour of the girl’s parents.

Rabi said: “We have received the case, and I must say in our years of advocacy during which we have treated over 400 cases of rape and child abuses, we have never come across this type of inhumanity.

“It is devastating to see eight men raping a 13-year-old. She is pregnant, she hasn’t even developed breasts at all and her parents are threatening to abort the twins to avert public embarrassment.

“The fact that the rapists are eight in number might even expose her to HIV/AID or sexually transmitted diseases and other dangerous infection as a result of forced sex.

“We need justice for this girl and that is why we need the support of Kaduna state government, all human right organizations and religious leaders to quickly intervene and bring succour to the poor child that is facing daily challenges.”

The father of the girl, Mu’azu Shittu, said he had already taken the case to Upper Sharia Court in Ikara.

According to him, he had contemplated abortion but was advised against it.

“She is too young to be carrying twins and there is no single one among the rapists that is ready to take responsibility for the pregnancy,’’ he lamented.

The girl said the men usually give her N500 and warned her not to tell anybody.

“They usually call and give me N500 when I came back from school and went out hawking; they forced me into it.

“And they have been warning me not to tell my parents, they promise to kill me if I dare tell my parents, that is why I refused to tell my parents, I was so afraid.’’(NAN)

  • UNILAG student was raped, doctor tells court

UNILAG student was raped, doctor tells court

An Ikeja High Court heard yesterday how two brothers, Bright Nwachukwu and Chijindu Nwachukwu raped and defrauded an undergraduate of the University of Lagos (Unilag).

Bright, 32 and Chijindu, 24, are facing a three-count charge of obtaining under false pretences and rape before Justice Josephine Oyefeso.

They were alleged to have accosted the 21-year-old undergraduate on February 12, 2016, on her way to the campus for medical clearance.

Led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel, Mrs C. K Tunji-Carrena,  Dr Alagbe Oyedeji of the Department of Family Medicine, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH)  said he was testifying on behalf of one Dr Sholaja, who   prepared a report dated February 13, 2016.

He described Sholaja as his colleague, adding that the doctor was no longer with LASUTH.

The witness, a consultant/examiner with Mirabel Centre, which handles rape and related cases,  said his job entailed “examination, treatment and writing of reports or examination findings on victims of sexual assault.”

“Being an examiner and also someone experienced in the day-to-day activities of the Mirabel Centre, I’m here to interpret the examination findings,” he said.

The  findings, he said,  started from when the client entered into the examination room,  pointing out that she was found to be quiet and willing to give information. He said the victim was in good state of mind, alert and well-oriented about time and place.

“The gross physical findings indicate that there are no significant injuries to her physical structure. Significant findings on her genitalia indicate injuries; there was a focus of injury to the entrance of the urethra. The hymen had injuries called  lacerations and the posterior forcet had superficial lacerations”, he stated.

Oyedeji explained that the doctor concluded that his  findings were consistent with the victim’s claim that she had forceful penetration into her private parts,  adding :  “the force in this case, as described by the victim happened to be the male organ.”

Under cross-examination by Mr Oganihu Nwosu, the defence counsel, the doctor admitted that the complainant never  named the defendants as those who raped her.

He also noted that the examination report revealed that the victim had a genital infection before the rape.

“Part of the report said that there was a copious discharge on the client’s genitalia. Analysis was not done on the discharge and it was observed that the client had a staphylococcus infection,” Oyedeji said.

The trial resumes on February 19.

  • ‘My nephews ‘raped’ two of my daughters’

‘My nephews ‘raped’ two of my daughters’

A woman identified as Rachel yesterday told detectives how her nephews allegedly repeatedly raped her underage daughters.

Rachel said she and her 13 and eight-year-old daughters sought refuge at her elder sister’s two-bedroomed apartment at Bariga, after their home was overtaken by a flood.

But, according to her, her nephews took advantage of them.

The suspects, Saviour Philip, 35, and Paul Philip, 17, were brought to the Gender Office of the police at Ikeja, from Bariga Division and charged to court yesterday.

Rachel said: “I was compelled to move into my elder sister’s house because my one-room apartment was taken over by flood. I used to live at the Sawmill area of Bariga.

“My sister’s sons started raping my daughters three weeks ago. They took turns to rape them and threatened to kill them if they told anyone about it.

“But I knew about it when my eldest daughter was rude to my sister’s sons. When I asked why she said: ‘Why won’t I be rude to uncle after he had repeated sex with me? How can I stop crying?’

“I saw what I can only describe as a shadow come across my child’s face. It was devastating to witness her distress.”

According to Rachel, the eight-year-old victim was her twin sister’s daughter. She said her twin confronted the boys when she learnt of the abominable act but was beaten up.

She said: “When my twin sister got to the shop, Paul’s mother and two of her relatives pounced on her, inflicting injury on her. My 13-year-old daughter was taken to Mirabel Centre for treatment where it was established that there was penetration.

“But I got the shock of life there when my eight year old niece opened up that Saviour also ‘fingered’ her.”

One of the victims said the 35-year-old suspect usually had anal penetration and the younger one “entered through the front.

“They threatened to kill me if I told anyone about it. Saviour brought out some charms and said he would use them on me,” the minor said.

According to the older victim, Paul was the first to defile her, adding that she was arranging clothes in the room when he grabbed her from behind and put her back on the floor.

She said: “Paul started it. One day while arranging my siblings’ clothes, after my mother had gone to the shop, he came from behind, lifted me and landed me on the floor. He covered my mouth when I wanted to shout. When he was done he threatened that if I told my mother or anyone, he would kill me.

When he finished with me, he would use his fingers on my younger sister. He usually did it in the afternoon when most tenants were away.

“Saviour penetrated through my anus. He also told me not to tell anyone and that if I told my mother, he would drive us out of the house.

“I refused to tell anyone because I was scared of death. One day, when I could not bear the pains from my private part, I told Paul I would tell my mother. He said my mother would not do anything even if I told her.

“Two Sunday ago, my mother overheard me insulting Paul. She picked up a stick and hit me with it and at the same time reminded me that Paul was not just a relative but my senior.

“I didn’t know where the boldness came from but I said ‘mummy you want to know why I am insulting him? It is because he has raped me several times.’ At that point my mother descended on Paul and demanded to know the truth.”

  • Police arrest commercial driver who raped student of Ekiti college

Police arrest commercial driver who raped student of Ekiti college

Operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old commercial driver, Tope Ojolo, who allegedly raped a student of the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti on September 17.

The committed the crime at about 8.00 p. m while conveying the victim, who was said to be coming back from a hospital where she had gone to receive treatment for malaria.

Ojolo suddenly veered into the bush and forcibly had a carnal knowledge of the victim, who was the only passenger inside the mini bus, known in local parlance as “akoto,” at the time of the incident.

The violation of the girl by the driver sparked a riot in Ikere, the following day when students of the college went on rampage and attacked commercial drivers.

  • How two brothers raped me, by victim

How two brothers raped me, by victim

A 22-year-old woman, Emmanuela Zaccheus, yesterday told an Ikeja High Court how two brothers, Bright and Chijindu Nwachukwu, raped and defrauded her of N19,000.

Bright (31) and Chijindu  (23) are being tried by Justice Josephine Oyefeso for alleged rape and obtaining money by false pretence.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, Mrs C.K Tunji- Carrena, is contrary to Sections 135 , 137 and 312 (3) of the Criminal law of Lagos State, 2011.

Led in evidence by the prosecutor, the victim, a Biology graduate and an entrepreneur, said she met Bright for the first time on February 12 at Iyana Ipaja, on her way to the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka.

She maintained that she had never met him prior to that day.

The witness said the defendant spoke to her in French and asked her where Diamond warehouse is. She said she did not know where it is.

She said there was a man with Bright who asked her to describe the place to him if she knew there.

The witness said after she left the men she realised that she could not meet up with her appointment and decided to return home.

According to the witness, she saw Bright and the other man again on her way home and he asked the same question. She said she maintained that she did not know the place.

“I wanted to be on my way but the other man that was with him pleaded with me to help him. At this point, Bright handed him some foreign currencies. He held my hand and said that we should follow him.

“At that moment, I didn’t know what I was doing again, I just followed them and we crossed to the other side of the road at Iyana-Ipaja and boarded a bus towards Sango. I paid the transport fare for the three of us and we later alighted at a bus-stop which I didn’t know the name.

“We took a tricycle to another place where we met the second defendant  Chijindu who disguised as a store-keeper. We entered the place and they brought out something that looks like a photo-film and washed it in a liquid and it turned into a N1000 note.

“ He folded the money and asked me to take a bite and take an oath that if I tell anyone about what is taking place, I would die,” she said.

Chijindu, the witness said, told her to bring some money so that they could print more money but she did not have cash on her.

“He collected my Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card, pin number and headed to the bank. While they (second defendant and storekeeper) were away, the first defendant asked me if I eat fish and I replied in the affirmative. He again reminded me that I would die as a result of the oath I had with him earlier if I tell anybody about what happened.

“I became so scared and I started crying and I pleaded with him that I don’t want to die. Bright then told me that the only option to avoid death is to have sex with me. I started begging him again not to have sex with me but he eventually had his way.

“When Chijindu came from where he had gone to withdrew the N19,000 that I had in my bank account, he ordered me to delete the alert message sent by my bank. He also came back with another man who claimed to be a pastor.  He brought in a bucket of water and after looking through it, he said my mother has some money in her drawer and I should go home and bring the whole money. He instructed me not to talk to anyone until I accomplished the mission”, Zaccheus.

The witness said she caught a glimpse of a sign post “Toluwalase” and memorised it.

She said when she got home, she met her mother and her brother who later told her that she was acting strange and restless.

“My mother later came to me and held me, seeking to know what happened to me and I told her I don’t want to die. She was shocked and we were both crying. My mother told me that God is the owner of my life and I came back to my senses and told her all that happened.”

According to the witness, her mother called her pastor and she was taken to the family hospital because of the sexual assault. The witness said she was referred to St Leo hospital in Ikeja.

Zaccheus said the matter was reported at Area G Police Station in Ogba from where she was referred to Mirabel Centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for check- up and counselling.

Under cross-examination by the defence counsel, Mr. Ikenna Okoli, the witness insisted that she gave her ATM to the second defendant and money was withdrawn from her account.

She also insisted that the first defendant had sex with her without her consent.

The matter was thereafter adjourned till October 10, 2017 for continuation of trial.

  • Teenager narrates how her father, half-brother ‘raped’ her

Teenager narrates how her father, half-brother ‘raped’ her

For seven months, my father, Sunday Adimawu, and his step-son, Kenneth took turns to rape me. They even infected me with sexually transmitted diseases. The first time it happened, Kenneth crept into where I was sleeping and tried to force himself on me. I woke up and rushed to complain to my father but he chased me back and said I should allow him do whatever he wanted to do with me.”
Those were the words of a 12-year-old Junior Secondary School (JSS1) drop-out, whose father and his son serially raped at Ilogbo in Lagos.
The victim’s travail started last May when her father allegedly abducted her from their residence at Alhaji Azeez Kalore Street, Isheri Olofin in Idimu to his lover’s place.
She was returned to her mother last December after family members complained that while her mates were in school, she was made to hawk oil bean (Ugba) at Alaba International Market, Ojo, for the said lover.
Adimawu was arrested last Thursday by policemen attached to Idimu Division after a lawyer, Sir barth Ozoana filed a complaint.
The suspect, a commercial driver, however denied raping the girl, adding that he took her away because his wife had ‘mental’ problem.
According to the victim, her father and his lover that first night, opened her legs for Kenneth to penetrate, adding that Adimawu also sexually assaulted her the following day and warned her to not tell anyone about it.
She said: “My father’s mistress’ son, Kenneth, crept to where I laid on the floor one night and started touching my private part. I woke up and rushed to inform my father, who was sleeping on the bed with his mistress. But he drove me back. He said I should allow him do whatever he wanted to do with me.
“My father came to where I was, parted my legs, with the assistance of his mistress and instructed his step son to have sex with me.
“After everyone had gone out the next day, my father called me inside, locked the door and had sex with me. He warned me not to tell anyone what happened, threatening to kill me if I did.
“Since then, my father and his step son had taken turns to rape me. At times when I went to sell Ugba at Alaba, his step son would take me to an uncompleted building, where he would place some cartoons on the ground and rape me”.
It was gathered that the sexual assaults on the teenager was uncovered by her mother, Mrs Adimawu, who noticed she was acting strangely.
Her suspicion, she said, was borne out of past experiences, where she allegedly caught the man putting his private part in the victim’s mouth when she was nine-month and six-years-old.
The woman admitted to have pressured the victim into disclosing what transpired at her father’s lover’s home, adding that Adimawu had her beaten up severely when she confronted him about the rape.
She said: “I discovered something strange about the way my daughter was walking when she returned home. When I asked her initially she did not talk until I involved one of her teachers who was taking her extra moral classes before she opened up. “When I confronted him (Adimawu), he beat me to stupor and drove me and my daughter away. We have been staying with a relative since December last year.
“I had gone to the market to buy food stuff, only to return and discovered that my daughter was nowhere to be found. When my husband came back, I asked him, he denied knowing where our daughter was, saying I should go and look for her. The matter of our missing child was reported to the police, yet he denied knowing where she was until December, when he opened up. He said he took her to learn a trade. It took the intervention of the police and relatives before he brought her back last December.
“I was never mad, neither was I sick. The emotional and psychological effect during the period I was searching for my only child made him conclude that I was mad. Did you notice any trace like that in me? He is trying to chase me out of the house we built together so that he can bring his mistress in.”
Although Adimawu insisted the allegations were false, a source at the station said the suspect earlier admitted that Kenneth had carnal knowledge of his daughter.
The source said the case would be transferred to the gender unit at the state Police Command for further action.
