  • Police nabs kidnap syndicate, recover arms in Katsina

    The Katsina state Police command yesterday announced the arrest of a notorious Cattle rustling and kidnapping Syndicate, recovering in the process an AK 47 riffle with breech no. 1977. A press release which was signed by the Public relations Officer in the state Superintendent Gambo Isa, said the arrests was based on a tip off.

    He listed those arrested to include: Umar Usman alias “ORI”, aged 45, of Garin Dan -Gambo village, Rugu forest, Safana LGA, alleged to have been terrorizing Safana and Batsari LGAs of Katsina state.”In the course of investigation one AK 47 rifle with breech No. 1977 was recovered in his possession.  The suspect is assisting the police with useful information that may lead to the arrest of other members of his syndicate,” he said.

    In a related development, the State Command has also announced the recovery of one Ak 47 rifle breech no.89-11825 with two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, just as a fire wood cutter, one Aliyu Sani, aged 25 of Sabon Layi village, Faskari, was reported to have been attacked by armed bandits in the forest.

    The release further stated that the Police patrol team was immediately dispatched to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, with the team succeeding in dislodging them and recovering one AK.47 rifle with breech number 89-11825 and two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition abandoned by the hoodlums.

    Also the Command arrested the duo of Sanusi Sani, aged 30 of Landan-Ketare village, Kankara LGA of Katsina state and one Bello Abdullahi,  aged 30 of the same address, who while armed with dangerous weapons, blocked Tashar Kawu – Unguwar Zaki feeder road, Kankara and robbed one Abbas Halilu, aged 25 of Bada’u village, Kankara of his Techno Handset valued at ten thousand naira  and another unregistered motorcycle Bajaj valued one hundred and eighty thousand naira (180,000:00K) after beating him to a state of coma.

    The release disclosed that In the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to have sold the motorcycle at the cost of one hundred thousand (N100,000:00K) in Kano state, and also  confessed to other series of armed robbery incidents, terrorizing Kankara and its environs.

    The PPPRO assured that all the arrested suspects will be diligently prosecuted in a law court.

     

     

  • Troops kill five bandits, recover arms in Kaduna

    Troops of 1 Division in Kaduna State eliminated five bandits and recovered arms in Birnin Gawri Local Government Area of Kaduna State, it was learnt yesterday.

    In a statement by the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Col. Muhammad Dole, said troops, under Operation Whirl Punch, responded to a distress call about a robbery on the Birnin Gwari-Funtua road.

    The statement reads: “While on pursuit of the robbers, they were ambushed by suspected bandits. However, they fought their way and overpowered the bandits who hastily withdrew into Kwuyambana forest in Zamfara State.

    “Among the eliminated bandits was a notorious bandit from Zamfara, identified as Sani Danbuzuwa.

    “Regrettably, we lost one soldier and two were injured. The injured have been taken to a military hospital in Kaduna.

    “After a thorough search of the ambush area, the following items were recovered – one AK-47 rifle; three magazines; 87 rounds of 7.62mm (special); 1 G-3 rifle; four magazines and 61 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO).”

    Col. Dole added that a wanted kidnapper and expert in negotiations for ransom, Yinusa Suleiman, from Sambuwa, was arrested on August 14.

    “He is currently assisting security operatives in further investigations,” he said.

  • Police arrest four suspected kidnappers, recover arms in Zamfara

    The Zamfara State Police Command said yesterday it had arrested four suspected kidnappers and recovered 16 locally made guns and five cutlasses in Gusau and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of the state.

    SP Muhammad Shehu, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command said in a statement in Gusau that the suspects  were arrested on July 19, by the joint operations patrol of the IGP Special Tactical Squad in conjunction with the command’s tactical teams at various criminal hide-outs in Zawuyya, Badarawa and Birnin-yero Villages in Gusau and Shinkafi local government areas respectively.

    “The suspects arrested were alleged to be engaged in various criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery and culpable homicide, among others,” he said.

    On July 15 the command arrested 72 suspected bandits and kidnappers at some identified criminals hideouts and recovered 73 unregistered motorcycles.

    He said 43 of the 72 have been charged to court, while the remaining 29 were undergoing investigation at the command.

  • Police arrest suspected notorious bandit, recover arms in Zamfara

    The Zamfara State police command said it has arrested a suspected notorious bandit (name withheld) in Gurusu town in Bukkuyum local government area of the state.

    The Public Relations Officer of the command, Muhammad Shehu, stated this in a statement in Gusau yesterday.

    Shehu said the arrest was made on Friday after receiving information on presence of bandits in the area.

    “We received distress call from the area that there was presence of bandits in the bush near Gurusu village.

    “The area commander of Anka Police Area Command mobilised and led a team of mobile Policemen for bush combing operation in the area, which lasted for hours and led to the arrest of the suspect.

    “A locally made gun with two live cartridges and one operational motorcycle were recovered from the suspect,” he said.

    Meanwhile, the command said it had also arrested a woman, Salamatu Shehu, from Rafin-Gona village in Anka local government area, for allegedly killing her husband.

    He said the incident occurred on June 27, when the suspect and her husband were fighting and she was alleged to have used a stool to hit her husband to death.

    According to him, all the suspects are in police custody and will be charged to court after investigation.

    He appealed to communities in the state to always provide information to help the security agencies fight criminals.

  • Troops arrest five ‘militias’, recover arms in Nasarawa

    Troops of 177 Guards Battalion have arrested five suspected militias at Ugyi, Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

    Army spokesman Brig.-Gen Texas Chukwu said the troops recovered arms during a raid.

    Chukwu said a Daihatsu Sport Utility Vehicle; seven motorcycles; six dane guns and locally-made revolver were recovered.

    Others are four 9mm rounds of ammunition and cartridge; 26 daggers and a list containing phone numbers, sword, 40 pieces of customised regalia; N1,205; and assorted charms.

    Chukwu added that preliminary investigation is on and the suspects will be handed over to the appropriate authorities.

    The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Andoma of Doma, Alhaji Aliyu Ogah, has called for peace among farmers and herdsmen.

    Ogah spoke yesterday in Doma during a peace talk with CAN officials.

    According to him, peaceful co-existence among communities would boost food production.

    He said: “When farmers and herdsmen co-exist peacefully, the situation will enhance food security and socio-economic well being of the people and the economic development of the state.

    “Peace is priceless and non-negotiable, that is why I am suing for peace among my people, especially among farmers and herdsmen so that both of them will enjoy the fruits of their labour.

    “Peace is also a necessary requirement for the development of any society, hence the need for all of us to see ourselves as our brothers’ keeper in the interest of development.

    “More so, no society will develop in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion.”

    The monarch, who lamented the crisis in some parts of the state, advised communities against retaliation.

    CAN Chairman Rev. Joseph Anzaku said the visit was aimed at partnering the Emirate Council to promote peace in the state.

    Anzaku advised communities affected by the mayhem against reprisal attacks, saying all religion preached peace and unity.

    He assured the monarch that he will continue to advocate peaceful co-existence among religious groups for sustainable development.
