  • RCCG parish commissions road at 13

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Royal Assembly Parish, Ogba, Lagos, last Sunday commissioned a 144-metre road to mark its 13th year anniversary.

Pastor-in-charge, (PICP) Lagos Province 60, Pastor Ephraim Osunde, said the gesture is in line with the church’s vision on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

His words: “We believe in giving back to the society where our church is located. We thank God for the completed project and we are also grateful to the community and those who supported in making the project a reality.”

The Assistant Pastor-in-charge of Province (APICP Admin), LP 60 and host, Rotimi Davies, stated the suffering of the host

community ignited the desire to embark on the project.

According to him: “When I was transferred to this parish, the road was completely bad; neither residents nor church members could use it.

“People were parking outside, on the other street which wasn’t encouraging. As a result, I approached the PICP and asked that we execute a CSR project in collaboration with the street’s landlord association and as you can see today, the road has been constructed”.

Chairperson Babalola Street Landlord’s Association, Chief Samuel Afeni, said: “This July, will make it 42-years that I have been living on this street. There has been no touch of government whatsoever. Whatever little we do as regards the road is usually destroyed by erosion. But by the divine grace of God, the RCCG, Royal Assembly parish approached us and intimated that the church would like to construct our road in collaboration with us and we agreed, did our part which was to repair the drainage on both sides and the church tarred the road.

“We are grateful for what the ministry has done for us and pray that God will continue to bless the pastor and every member of the church.”

“We go to markets, communities, prisons, hospitals and we are in a Police station.  We go with things to make life a little better for others and to give hope. We also go to schools and give scholarships to indigent students; we renovate class rooms, we buy laboratory equipment’s in schools and we pay WAEC fees for some indigent students, among other things.

He said the church is committed to making life better for others, saying they will to do more. “We also feed the hungry and we teach people how to use their hands to make a living. When people have what they do to make a living, criminality will reduce. We put drug addict’s n rehabilitation centers, we provide traffic lights, and we encourage people to vote and be law abiding; all of these reduces the job of the police,” he said.

The Acting Area Commander, Area F Ikeja, John Ajigidi thanked the church for the gesture, saying it is well appreciated.

He said it was the first time on the job of over 33 years to see a church beautify a Police Station.

“I am surprised and happy. The gesture is going to be of immense contribution, because other people, churches and nongovernmental organizations will throw see the Police as their friend.”

He urged the police to use certain discretion in carrying out their activities.

“You should not collect illegal money from anyone; you should sometimes let them go on warning. Who do you arrest Okada riders and collect money from them.  We the police are the ones that swears for ourselves by collecting money from someone you are better than. Do the right thing, help others, and change your mind and start doing good.

“I know there is a ban on Okada in major roads and streets, but not all of them commit the offence purposely.  When you tell them to pay N10,000 it is sometimes not fair. In the police, discretion is allowed; there are some certain things you can overlook. Some people carry expired papers unknowingly, you can sometimes warn them and let them go,” he said.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Alausa Police Station, Kromkyes Bakfur, said Alausa Police Station is likely to be the only interlocked Police station in the state.

“We are honoured and humbled by this gesture and we assure you that we will not let you down. With this, the church has helped us to set a high standard for other police station and we have shown ourselves as being pace setters,” he said.

  • There may be no Nigeria or general elections in 2019 – Adeboye

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye has warned that there might be no Nigeria in 2019, not to talk about a general election.

The cleric was quoted as saying on Friday, at the May 2018 Holy Ghost service that there was no way he could continue to keep quiet while the killings, which had been counted in thousands this year alone, went on.

It came against the backdrop of the recent killings of two Catholic Church priest in Benue State, a fortnight ago and several attacks on churches, which prompted US President, Donald Trump to vow before President Muhammadu Buhari in Washington that he would do something, very quickly to end the killing of Christians in Nigeria.

Adeboye, speaking on the theme, ‘Stronger Than Your Enemies – 5 (Habitation of the Almighty)’ said: “There is no father that will lose 19 children in a day and be quiet. It doesn’t matter the denominations. All Christians in Nigeria call me daddy, so when anyone of them dies it’s my son that is dead.

“We need to pray because unless these killings stop immediately even Nigeria may not live. We are not talking about individuals we are talking about Nigeria itself.

“A bishop asked me sometimes ago what God has revealed to me about 2019 election.

“I told him I am not sure there would be an election because unless these killings stop, there may be no election next year, I’m mot prophesying but this is so because no one will go out to vote if not sure they will return home safely.

“I have seen war at a close range, there is nothing good about it. A nation may survive a civil war but no nation can survive a religious war and remain the same.

“That Nigeria may live and not experience religious war these killings must stop.”

Speaking on how Samuel was discovered at the Redemption Camp, Mr. Adeniyi said “This is not the first time that he has done long bible recitations. He has done four previous presentations before.

“I just prayed in January, asking God to give him the grace to recite Psalm 119 in full, and here we have it now.  He was just called upon, and he recited it.

Mr Sofoluwe finally thanked the members of the Parish who gave a honorarium offering for him, and also expressed thanksgiving to the wife of the General Overseer for the scholarship.

Responding to those who have accused him of being silent on the issue, the General Overseer said “I am a Christian and I belong to the Christian Association of Nigeria which has a President. So whatever the President says is what I say. I am also a Pentecostal and I belong to the Pentecostal Association of Nigeria. So whatever the President says is what I say. • Deolu Adeboye celebrates

    Deolu Adeboye celebrates

As the eldest child of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), and one of the most influential religious figures in the country, Adeolu Adeboye has pretty big shoes to fill. Every word or action of his is taken as reflective of his upbringing. And this extends to celebrations. Hence it was no surprise when the CEO of Wisemen Apparel and Duchess turned a year older and celebrated in a low-key fashion.

Not for him a grand and expensive shindig which may be construed as a frivolous display of vanity. Not for him also the preening blares of vuvuzelas and klaxons crowing of his achievements. Rather, he spent the day in the company of his close family, thanking and praising God for another year added to a wonderful life.
