RNI delivers health, hygiene and hope with volunteers rally for change in Lagos

On March 1, 2025, the Alaguntan community in Ajah, Lagos, experienced a remarkable transformation as Refuge Network International (RNI), also known as Refuge Charitable Network Nigeria (RCNN), led a social impact project aimed at improving healthcare, environmental sustainability, and hygiene.

With a team of nearly 100 volunteers, RNI successfully executed a multi-tiered approach to community development.

Residents had access to free medical check-ups, health education, and diagnostic tests. Doctors and medical professionals volunteered their time to ensure quality healthcare services were provided. “This is the first time my children have had a proper medical check-up,” said a grateful mother of three.

Charles Gimoh, the founder of RNI, emphasized the importance of healthcare interventions in underserved communities. “We cannot build a thriving society if people are struggling with preventable diseases. Our mission is to reach the forgotten and provide them with the care they need.”

The initiative also emphasized environmental sustainability through a tree-planting campaign. Volunteers planted trees across the community, contributing to climate action and long-term ecological balance.

“Trees give us oxygen and shade. This is a small step towards a healthier future,” said one volunteer. Gimoh highlighted the broader vision behind the project. “Our commitment to nature is part of our commitment to humanity. A healthier planet means healthier people.”

RNI also spearheaded a sanitation drive to improve hygiene and waste management. Teams were assigned to clean up public areas and educate residents on proper sanitation practices.

Residents joined the effort, and many expressed hope that such projects would continue. “This has inspired us to keep our surroundings clean,” said a community leader. Gimoh urged communities to take charge of their environment.

“We can’t wait for the government or external agencies to do everything. We have to own our spaces and make them better for ourselves and our children.”

Through this initiative, RNI once again demonstrated its commitment to making a tangible difference in Nigerian communities.
