The list was last Tuesday unveiled by the African Union Commission, AUC, and the International Jury of AFRIMA, at the Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The released nominees list covers the five Regional Categories divided into Female and Male categories.

Cameroon takes up four of the eight spots in the category for Best Female Artiste in Central Africa, followed by DRC (2), and Angola (2). In the category for Best Male Artiste in Central Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) takes the lead with five spots followed by Cameroon (2) and Chad (1). From Eastern Africa, the female category Kenya holds three spots while Uganda takes two with Ethiopia, Rwanda and Tanzania occupying one spot respectively. In the male category, Kenya and Tanzania maintain three nominations each, with Ethiopia and Uganda registering one nomination apiece.

The Algerian female artistes occupy four out of the six spots in the category for Best Female Artiste in Northern Africa, with Tunisia and Egypt holding one spot each. The Male category has Moroccan artistes occupying four of the eight spots, Algeria (2), Egypt and Tunisia earning one nomination each. The Southern African region is dominated by South African artistes both in the male and female categories, with a total of nine spots, followed by Zimbabwe (3), while Swaziland, Namibia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe take one spot each.

The Western region Male category is having great contenders between Nigeria and Ghana. Holding up 4 spots is Nigeria, closely followed by Ghana (3), while Guinea and Cape Verde hold 1 spot each. The spokesperson for the International Jury of AFRIMA and the Programme Director, Cameroon TV and Radio, CRTV, Mr. Robert Ekukole (representing Eastern Africa) said: “The AFRIMA Nominees list we arrived at reflects and represents the top-notch creative expressions of music talents and professionals within the relevant regions and validity period. However, we also have a challenge where some artistes failed to enter for the awards and as such missed the opportunity to be evaluated or possibly nominated for AFRIMA.”

The AFRIMA adjudication is carried out electronically via the proprietary AFRIMA Adjudication Software, which was designed by AFRIMA in 2014, has been deployed for use since the 2015 annual adjudication process.

Public voting opens on the AFRIMA website, www.afrima.org, on Monday, August 27, 2018 to determine who wins the coveted 23.9 carat gold-plated AFRIMA Trophy in 38 categories.

Other activities scheduled for the main awards events is the Africa Music Business Roundtable and the AFRIMA Music Village, a music concert and cultural festival that accommodates over 40,000 music lovers to witness live performances from African artistes.

  • ‘N130b loot’: Govt may release more evidence against Jonathan

More evidence of corrupt practices by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration may be tendered following a challenge by the former leader, it was learnt yesterday.

Federal Government sources said although there was no immediate plan to arrest or quiz the former President, the government had not ruled out the option.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo last week said N150 billion was withdrawn by the Jonathan administration two weeks before the 2015 election.

A fact-sheet by the Presidency revealed how some funds were illegally transported from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to the private residence of the former President.

A former National Security Adviser (NSA) personally supervised the physical transfer of the money from the CBN vaults to the private residence of the former President.

The document said: “In one particular instance, over N70 billion was released in parts from the national treasury between January 8 and February 25, 2015. The over $289m, which was also referenced last week by the Vice-President, is said to be included in this particular series of illegal transactions.

“Besides that, in another illegal disbursement, the minutes of the Central Bank board meeting of 25th August 2014 indicated the board endorsed another N60billion requested by the former President and released by the apex bank.

“The sum which was okayed by the CBN board, was not tied to any project or procurement, and was meant and disbursed purely for campaign purposes, through the office of the then NSA and the DSS leadership at the time.

“Specifically that N60billion that was okayed by the CBN on August 25, 2014 was said to have been shared between the two security agencies thus: N40billion went to the NSA while N20 billion was released to the State Security Services (SSS).”

A top government source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The Federal Government will release more evidence of looted funds either approved or traced to ex-President Jonathan if he continues to play to the gallery. The government is not out to persecute Jonathan  but it may be compelled to lay the facts bare before the public.

“We have more evidence of approvals, withdrawal of funds, diversion of cash and other financial misdemeanors committed during Jonathan’s administration. The N130billion or N150billion in the public domain is a child’s play. And some past government officials did not even waste much time in returning looted funds to the treasury through plea bargain in court.

“There will soon be more revelations and more trials in the next few months. The official records are there for Nigerians to judge.

“Jonathan has been accorded enough respect due to his status as a former President but if he wants this administration to prove beyond reasonable doubt, he might have to face the consequences.

“While there is no clear plan to either arrest or quiz him, we cannot say that the option is not off- the-table completely. Some of the suspects on trial for $2.1billion arms deal have confessed that they acted on Jonathan’s instructions.”

The source added: “The disclosure by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on looted funds during Jonathan administration were only to point out the fact that this President Muhammadu  Buhari’s administration is different.

“It is incontrovertible that Jonathan administration made more money and wasted a lot. But the Buhari government has earned less but it is doing much more.”

Dr. Jonathan alleged a plot to tarnish his reputation.

In a post on his Facebook page, he said:

“It has been brought to my attention that while I am away promoting democracy in Sierra Leone, a campaign will be unleashed against me to falsely impugn my name, using both faceless and identified persons.

“When I was in power, I said my ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. Even out of power, I continue to hold that belief.

“What I will say, however, is that no matter how far and fast falsehood has travelled, it must eventually be overtaken by truth.”

The source also clarified that while Jonathan was busy defending himself, his wife, Dame Patience had reached out to the government for “amicable resolution of all suspicious transactions and funds traced to her”. “We may be forced to release this evidence of rapprochement,” he said.

“In fact, the wife of the ex-President at a stage opted for an out-of-court settlement with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC). This is incontrovertible because her lawyer wrote the anti-graft agency. About 31 individuals and companies paid  over $11,489,069.03 into her two domiciliary accounts.

“Besides the cash, the EFCC traced 12 choice properties and a plot of land under construction to Mrs. Jonathan.

“This government has been modest in managing issues relating to looted funds identified with the former First Family. If Mrs. Jonathan had not gone to court to challenge the freezing of her accounts, she would have concluded the out-of-court settlement by now.”

UN demands release of 110 Dapchi schoolgirls

    Probe panel begins sitting

    Air Force explains action

    ‘Don’t withdraw pupils’

The United Nations (UN) yesterday demanded that the abductors of the 110 pupils of the Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State should release them immediately.

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he “very much hopes that the perpetrators will be brought to justice, and just as importantly, that the girls will be found and returned to safety”.

“I think the fact that these young women were abducted in an educational setting, where they should have been safe, where they should feel safe, just adds to the horror of the story.”

In a statement by his spokesperson, Mr Stephane Dujarric, Guiteres said he was gravely concerned over the situation.

The UN chief urged the Nigerian authorities to swiftly bring those responsible for this dastardly act to justice.

Guterres reiterated the solidarity and support of the UN to the Nigerian Government and other affected countries in the region in their fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

The UN had earlier described the abduction as “another horrific incident where young women and girls are targeted by terror groups”.

Yesterday in Abuja, National Security Adviser (NSA) Babagana Monguno inaugurated a 12-man panel to look into the circumstances leading to the kidnap of the girls, which he said  did not portray Nigeria in good light.

Monguno said: “The abduction of the schoolgirls by the terrorists is a worrisome incident that requires deliberate, urgent and relentless efforts on the part of government.

“There has been conflicting reports from various quarters on the event that led to the abduction, the number of persons abducted, as well as their identity.

“This does not portray the country in good light. There have also been reports, especially in the social media, which tend to support some level of inactivity by relevant organisations.

“Therefore, there is a need to verify the circumstances surrounding the abduction of these girls from the Government Girls Secondary School.”

Monguno listed the committee’s terms of reference. They are:

    • determine the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the students from the school on the 18th of February;
    • determine the exact number of persons abducted alongside their identity as there are conflicting reports in this regard;
    • confirm the presence, composition, scale and disposition of security emplaced in Dapchi, as well as the school itself before the incident;
    • ascertain the existing communication in the Dapchi and their functionality;
    • suggest measures that can lead to the location and immediate rescue of the abducted girls; and
    • to recommend measure to be emplaced in preventing future occurrences, and any other detail the committee may deem necessary.

“Considering the importance of the issue and the urgency required to promptly address the terms of reference and associated concerns, you are to commence sitting immediately and submit your report to me in two weeks, “ Monguno told the committee.

He urged the members “to be objective in their findings in order to address this ugly development”.

The NSA went on: “I must emphasis here also that there is a lot of cynicism outside in the wider society.

“This is not the first time such incident has taken place. On the 14th of April, 2014, a lot of girls were abducted from a secondary school in Chibok.

“A committee was set by the previous administration to look into the circumstances that led to the abduction of those girls.

“What I want to emphasis to you is that this investigation has to be done with all the seriousness it deserves. This is not going to be another exercise in futility. We are using the money of tax payers to carry out this assignment and they are entitled to getting results for whatever this committee does.

“Again, the inclination to push things under the carpet, to be sympathetic to groups or organisations will not be tolerated. You must unravel everything. Where people are culpable, it should come out in your report.”

The NSA said “the report also will be followed by a white paper”. “The President is extremely concerned about this incident which I have already told you, is beginning to cast a dark shadow on not just the administration but the country.

“The truth of the matter is that security is all-embracing. It is not just for agencies of government.

“There is always an interface between the wider society and security agencies, especially in the context of the 21st  century issues of insecurity. This time around, your work is going to permeate into the population, not just in Yobe State, probably in Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe states and so on and so forth.”

He added that “the basic motivation in this very exercise is to get result. I want results; this is not just going to be something theoretical, paper or suggestions that will end up on someone’s desk without anything happening.

“We must let the people of Nigeria know that we have taken this incident with all the seriousness it requires and we are going to solve this problem.

“I wouldn’t want a situation whereby you are going to be suppressed by any individual, any group or organisation or agency because we are not going to allow anybody to cover up anything in this matter.

“These are people’s children, our children and we must be seen to be doing the right thing.”

The chairman of the committee, Real Admiral Victor Adedipe, assured the NSA of the members’ commitment to ensuring that the findings are authentic and unbiased.

Chindinma debuts in weekend release ‘The Bridge’

The much anticipated cross cultural movie, ‘The Bridge’, brings director Kunle Afolayan, Muka Ray and Bank of Industry’s Nollyfund to the spotlight again, in an effort planned to blow the minds of movie lovers this yuletide season.

Set for cinema release on Friday, December 8 across Nigeria, the romantic movie also scores a landmark as the first feature film to launch the acting prowess of Nigerian singer and songwriter Chidinma Ekile, as she plays alongside a galaxy of veteran and contemporary stars such as Demola Adedoyin, Binta Ayo Mogaji, Zack Orji, Tina Mba, Adebayo Salami, Lere Paimo, Wole Olowomojuore, Lanre Hassan, Jimoh Aliu, and Mama Ray-Eyiwumi.

Produced by Lasun Ray and directed by Kunle Afolayan, the BoI-powered film tells the story of Stella (Chidinma Emile), a young lady from a distinguished Igbo family who falls in love and secretly marries Obadare (Demola Adedoyin), a Yoruba Prince against her parent’s wish.

The relationship became threatened by tribal prejudice and the consequences shook the very foundation and unity of both families.

Silverbird Distributions announces the cinema release and a star-studded premiere billed for Saturday, December 9, 2017.

The film distribution company, in a statement, describes “The Bridge” as a culturally conscious film with an equal touch of modernism, and pristine standard.

  • “Women Laughed at me because of my small manhood and quick release in 40seconds” says 45-Year Old Banker

“Women Laughed at me because of my small manhood and quick release in 40seconds” says 45-Year Old Banker

My name is Dave Taidi, and I will be sincere with you some months back, my marriage almost crashed and became a sexless marriage…

all because of my inability to perform during sex like a real man

Let me tell you what really happened:

My wife and I have been happily married for about some years ago, but our sex life was disappointing.

The major reason was due to the problem of releasing too quick during sex.

Sometimes within 40seconds of penetrating my wife’s vagina, I would look down and see that I am already releasing my sperm all over her.

During foreplay with my wife like caressing her, or kissing her… I would notice that suddenly I have poured out my semen.

But you know the worse part?

Several times before sex, I was unable to get an erection that could last even 1 minute. And my manhood would just fall and be unable to rise again.

It was embarrassing and shameful thing to behold because sex with my wife was so boring and always ended within 2minutes.

At first, my wife was very supportive so I started trying several drugs from pharmacy, using sprays and depressants… just so I could get an erection or even last say 5minutes during sex, but it all came to nothing.

    My condition became much terrible.

At a point, I thought that this condition was spiritual, I contacted my pastor and I started praying and fasting but no changes in my body system… so I gave up on that.
The breakthrough finally came when I ran into one of my ex-girlfriend that we were very close during my university days.

During one of our encounters, she dropped the bombshell. She jokingly asked me…

‘Are you now a strong man on bed or you still release even
    before the show starts?”

I was embarrassed from her question.

But from the look on my face, she already knew that I was still suffering from the problem.

I explained my story to her that my condition was still the same thing and how it was almost tearing my marriage apart.

My ex-girlfriend almost moved to tears and told me that my poor sexual performance in bed was the main reason why she broke up with me and told me to move on because she could not stand it anymore.

But surprisingly instead of mocking me like she used to do, she gave me the contact of a men health specialist that helped her fiancée to cure him of the same sex related problem I was experiencing.

My Ex-girlfriends Laughed at Me Because of my tiny manhood and lasting just 40seconds. After Taking This Supplement, I Now Last Over 25minutes And My Wife Begs Me to Release During Sex, Click Here To See The Solution That Worked For Me!

At first, I was skeptical and later on talked with my wife and we decided to try the men health specialist.

The Men health specialist gave me a natural supplement (NAFDAC approved) that contains 50 capsules, to be used twice daily as a curative measure for my quick ejaculation and weak erection issues.

Truth be told, on the 5th day of using the herbal supplement, I noticed that my erections became stronger and harder in the morning when I woke up.

Before, I used to wake up and my manhood would just be like that without any erection… like a dead manhood.

But that day, it was different. I had much stronger
erection without any stress at all.

I continued using the capsules for 3more days. My wife and I decided to have sex, and I did not release the normal time before of less than 1minute.

Instead, we made love and had sex for good 15minutes before I released my sperm.

But even with that, my sexual stamina all through was so much and my wife was unable to stand up immediately after the sex.

My wife was overjoyed and she confessed that I have
never handled her that way in bed ever
    since we got married.

She praised me that during the sex, I performed like a strong, young guy in his early twenties.

I was still in much doubt, so I decided to give the same capsules to my very close friend that was complaining about his quick release issue and watery sperm.

After 7days, he too came back again that his condition has improved and he was lasting 20minutes plus in bed with a much stronger erections.

  • Re: FRSC, please release my driver’s licence

SIR: Sir, I want to use this opportunity to thank The Nation, for the publication of the above referred letter on Tuesday August 1,; barely two days sending same to the newspaper. As a matter of fact, I was called on by the officers at the Ekiti State office of FRSC, Drivers’ Licence Unit before mid-day of same day the publication came out, to come for re-capturing.

However, the previous data remained in the system exactly at the point the process got to, before the power supply interruption of February 15. Besides, seven of such cases were resolved (as I was told) alongside mine, that same day, as a result of the publication.

I hereby thank The Nation and the FRSC officers at both ends, for their prompt actions.

I also wish to appeal to other print media to which the same letter had been forwarded to, not to go ahead with the publication of same, having being issued my Temporary Driver’s Licence that same day, Tuesday, August,1.

Evans asks court to order his release or arraigned

Suspected kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a. Evans, has sued the Inspector-General of Police at the Federal High Court in Lagos for alleged violation of his fundamental rights.

He is praying the court to compel the police to charge him to court rather than detain him indefinitely.

In a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed on his behalf by a Lagos lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje,  the suspected kidnapper said his continued detention without trial was illegal.

He is praying for an order directing the respondents to immediately charge him to court if, there is any case against him in accordance with Sections 35 (1) (c) (3) (4) (5) (a) (b) and 36 of the 1999 Constitution.

The Police, Lagos Commissioner of Police, Special Anti-Robbery Squad and Lagos State Police Command are the other respondents.

Alternatively, Evans is seeking an order compelling the respondents to immediately release him unconditionally.

Evans is contending that his continued detention since June 10 without charge amounts to an infringement on his fundamental human rights.

He argues that the respondents ought to have charged him to court in line with Sections 35 and 36 of the Constitution.

A 27-paragraph affidavit in support of the motion deposed to by Evans’ father, Stephen Onwuamadike, averred that the applicant had been subjected to media trial.

The father said the media trial and news orchestrated by the respondents continued to generate reactions in both print and electronic media without his son being afforded fair hearing and trial before a court of law.

The deponent also averred that since his son’s arrest, all his family members have been denied access to him while media practitioners have been granted unfettered access to him.

The matter has not been assigned to any judge and no date has been fixed for the hearing.

Please release our kids, parents beg kidnappers

    •Pupils’ whereabouts remain unknown

    •Victim’s mother ‘collapses twice’

Where are the six kidnapped pupils of Lagos State Model College, Igbonla in Epe? Their whereabouts remained unknown yesterday, three days after they were kidnapped from the school by gunmen.

Their distraught parents yesterday accused the government and the school of being insensitive to their plight.

Likening their children’s kidnap to the 2014 Chibok school girls’ abduction, they appealed to the government to give it “the deserved attention”.

After a meeting in Epe, the parents expressed displeasure over what they called the school’s nonchalance to the incident.

Farouk Yusuf, Ramon Isiaka, Pelumi Philips, Peter Jonas, George Adebanjo and Judah Agbaosi were whisked away from their dormitories last Thursday by gunmen clad in police uniform.

The kidnappers, who contacted the parents on Saturday, demanded N400 million ransom.

They were said to have told the parents to brief the school and the government about their demand.

According to the parents, the kidnappers said they were aggrieved with the school and the government.

At yesterday’s meeting to discuss the kidnappers’ demand, tempers ran high when the school’s representatives arrived late.

The parents became enraged when the representatives – two vice principals – could not give them any update on the issue.

A source told with The Nation: “It seems we have been too quiet and that is why the authorities have not told us anything yet. No one has given us any update. When we call them, they say they don’t know any development.

“Two of the patents called the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education separately, before coming for the meeting we had at Epe and you won’t believe he told them to call the police because he doesn’t have any update. He told them he doesn’t know anything that only the police can give information.

“What kind of reaction is that? How can he ask parents who are already distraught and do not even have contacts to call the police? Are they not supposed to be briefing us daily on efforts being made to rescue our children?

“As I speak to you, my wife has collapsed twice and was revived.  She hasn’t stopped crying since Thursday. It is lives we are taking about. Six children cannot be accounted for at the moment and no one is saying anything.

“This is not different from the case of the Chibok girls. The only difference is the number. It seems government has been more concerned with celebrating Lagos at 50 than in helping us get our children back. Now that the celebrations are over, we are begging the government to bring our children back safely.

“The government did not send any representative to the meeting and the Vice Principals that came called a female permanent secretary but the woman said she was in a meeting.

“They now called another man, who was in charge during last year’s kidnap but has been transferred to Ikorodu. It was that man that promised to come on Monday. That was why the meeting was adjourned.

“Government needs to show concern and help us get the children back. Some of the parents came from Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu Mushin and there’s also a parent who came from Port Harcourt.”

Another parent said: “It is obvious the school doesn’t appreciate our pain. They don’t care about what happens to our children.  Our children have been kidnapped from their care since Thursday and yet, we haven’t heard anything concrete.

“The kidnappers told us they have an axe to grind with the school. We were asked to tell the school and the government to provide the ransom, which we have done.

“We even fixed a meeting of all stakeholders but the school sent representatives, who came two hours late. We haven’t heard anything from the government either. We are not happy and want the world to hear our cries. The kidnappers should please release our children for us. We are begging them.”

The Nation gathered that security forces have been combing the creeks in order to rescue the pupils’.

It was learnt that Friday’s offensive against the militants was unavoidable because they allegedly attempted to snatch the Marine Police gunboats.

The kidnappers who were in three speedboats, were said to have run into the patrolling troops.

He said: “The kidnappers planned to snatch gunboats but they were unsuccessful. The marine police and the local vigilantes combing the areas engaged the militants. Three of their notorious commanders were among those killed.

“When they opened fire, the police returned fire. The gunboats were fully loaded with weapons and the policemen overpowered them. Their boats sank. As the fight was going on, they called for reinforcement and soldiers and naval personnel joined them.

“No policeman was killed but some of them sustained injuries. They have commenced mop up of the general area to retrieve the bodies of the militants. Nigerians need to support the police and other security agencies to achieve greater results.”

We’ll bring them back, says govt

Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule has assured parents of the kidnapped pupils of their children’s safe return.

Mrs Adebule, who visited the school shortly on arrival from Abuja on Friday, said efforts were on to get the children released unhurt.

“We are on top of the situation and the governor has directed all security operatives to move into action, details of which I cannot disclose in order not to undermine their operation,” she said.

Mrs Adebule urged the parents to be calm.

She appealed to the kidnappers to release the children to reunite with their families.

An Igbonla indigene, Mr Folabi Fakeye, called on the government to help the community facilitate the siting of a naval base around the creeks for security.

Fakeye promised that the community would provide land for the project.

Buhari to CBN: release N500b Paris Club cash

President advises governors to pay salaries, pension

STATES got a piece of cheery news yesterday.

President Muhammadu Buhari directed Minister of Finance Mrs. Kemi Adeosun and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele to quickly facilitate the payment of the second tranche of the London-Paris Club refund to – to ease states’ financial hardship.

Many Are not paying workers because they are short of cash.

The President said the money – about N500 billion – should be used to pay outstanding workers’ salaries and pension.

He gave the directive during a meeting with governors after the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting. The NEC is chaired by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

A statement by Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, quoted the President as telling the governors: “I will not rest until I address those issues that affect our people.  One of these basic things is the issue of salaries.

“It is most important that workers are able to feed their families, pay rent and school fees, then other things can follow.”

Although he did not mention the amount involved, The Nation’s lead story on Monday scooped that about N500billion is to be shared among the 36 states.

The Federal Government has given the conditions that the states must meet to get the cash.

Part of this is that they must give account of how the first tranche of the refund was spent.

The seven states being investiogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the alleged diversion of part of the money must be cleared by the anti-graft agency.

President Buhari, who went round the Council Chamber to greet the governors one after the other, praised the unity of the Forum of Governors.

He thanked them for displaying “love and respect” for him.

It was the President’s first meeting with the governors as a group since his return from a 50-day medical vacation.

According to him, he was overwhelmed by his recent experience in which states, irrespective of political differences, urged their citizens to pray in mosques and churches for his well-being. He apologised to governors for barring them from visiting him while he was in London.

“I didn’t want government to move to London. I wanted it to remain here and I am glad it did,” Buhari said.

After narrating his experience while on vacation, Buhari noted the suggestion by the governors for him to have more rest, but insisted that he would remain relentless in the pursuit of the interest of Nigerians at all times.

This, he said, is the only way to show his gratitude to the people who “had given so much to me.  “I was overwhelmed by the celebration of my return all across the country,” Buhari said.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Abdul-Aziz Yari, Governor of Zamfara State, assured the President, on behalf of his colleagues, that they would continue to support his policies and actions which they had adjudged as being in the nation’s best interest.

Governors Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa-Ibom), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) thanked President Buhari for saving the day for states through the first tranche of the London-Paris Club refund.

They also praised the trust the President reposed in the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who they said did not disappoint when he acted as President.
