    Stop trying to clone me, Rema drags record label

    Afrobeats singer Rema has expressed his frustration by calling out his record label, Mavin Records, for what he perceives as “fake” PR.

    Mavin Records had posted on their X page, announcing Rema’s involvement in a new project.

    Rema, expressing surprise, retweeted the post and questioned its authenticity by asking, “SMH, tf is this?”

    He further took to his page to drag Mavin Records for their lack of creativity while urging them to cease using him to garner attention with their false PR tactics.

    He tweeted: “Labels get creative, stop trying to clone me. No new music. Sorry, I’m too big for a fake PR bye!”

    Record producer and singer, Pheelz is shooting a shot at raving afrobeats singer, Rema, saying they can dictate the future of the music industry/Afrobeats.

    He said he is also open to working with the ‘Calm Down crooner,’ stressing that he believes that their collaboration would impact the music world.

    Pheelz was featured as a guest in the latest episode of the ‘Menisms’ podcast.

    “I think Rema and I can dictate the future [of Nigerian music/Afrobeats]. I would love to work with him. I think our collaboration will change the world,” he said.

    The Nation reported that Pheelz in a recent interview disclosed that Rema inspired him to make the switch from a producer to a singer.

    The ‘Finesse’ crooner said he came across a tweet from Rema during the COVID-19 lockdown that says, “The world paused for you to catch up,” and he took it personally.

    Rema walks off stage at DreamVille festival over poor sound

    Afrobeats singer Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema walked off the stage during the 2024 Dreamville Festival in North Carolina.

    The artist ended his performance midway, leaving fans and organisers stunned.

    Rema was performing his hit song “Calm Down” on day 2 of the festival at Dix Park in Raleigh, however, his performance was marred by persistent sound issues.

    The poor audio quality disrupted the flow of his set, leading to his decision to halt the show.

    Rema took the microphone and addressed the audience where he advocated for equal treatment of African artists on international stages.

    He said: “Hold on, there are too many sound issues. It’s messing up my whole performance. I’m seriously not feeling this sh*t. I’m representing Africa, and this is too messed up.

    ” If the sound cannot be perfect for every artist that gets on this stage… Africa is in the house, and you are messing sh*t up”.

    Award-winning afrobeats singer, Daniel Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has promised to give back to the youths following his immense breakthrough in the Nigerian and global music scene. 

    Rema revealed this during his visit to his state’s Governor, Godwin Obaseki at the Government House in Benin City, Edo State.

    The singer revealed that while he was performing on the global stage, he was able to export Benin culture through his artistic works.

    He said: “This is the time to do something for youths. I just want to do things. I have been able to make a breakthrough in the music industry. I went out there to perform on the global stage and took Benin City with me. I carried the city on my back and on my shoulders and expressed my culture in the best way I could.

    “The government will make moves and it is also time for the youths to make moves, re-educate themselves, ready to accept new rules for the betterment of the community and for the evolution of the entertainment industry as well.”

    While thanking the people of Edo State for being supportive throughout his musical journey, Rema commended the governor for caring for young people in the state.

    He said: “The lunch was great and we spoke about a lot of important things, especially his programme for the young people. It’s very beautiful to see a governor who cares for the future. He does not only have a vision for his tenure but beyond the eight-year period.

    “We have so much in stock for the young people of the State. I would not be here in the first place if not for the youths in Nigeria. They are the people I am part of, live for, the people I inspire, and motivate. They are the next generation.”

    On his part, Obaseki assured support for upcoming artists in the state to enable them to compete favourably with their peers across the globe.

    Obaseki said: “He is here for a private lunch. We had an opportunity to chat and catch up with him. He has not been here since I became governor. Rema left Edo just as I was getting into office as governor. It’s nice to have him back after six years.

    “We had an opportunity to tell him all we have done and how we are interested in supporting young people in the arts, culture, and entertainment sectors. We have commenced the conversation with him on an iconic art project for this city and this part of the country.”

    Prior to signing with her record firm, Ayra Starr admitted that she was attracted by Rema’s talent, astonished at how a teenage boy could have such extraordinary musical skills.

    Ayra Starr went on to reveal Rema as a source of inspiration in her artistic journey.

    “I play him almost all the sings before I release them. I looked up to Rema even before I joined Mavin, he is a very good friend and an amazing artist. I’m very inspired by him,” she said in an interview.

    Burna Boy, Asake, Rema lose out at Brit Awards

    Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy and his colleagues, Asake and Rema failed to clinch an award at the UK’s highest profile music awards ceremony, Brit Awards. 

    The Nation reported the duo of Burna Boy and Asake was nominated in the Best International Act of the Year category but lost to American star, SZA.   

    While Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ also lost the gong for the Best International Song of the Year to Miley Cyrus ‘Flowers.’

    This year’s edition held at London’s 02 Arena over the weekend. 

    Despite the loss, Rema closed the ceremony with an electrifying performance of his hit song, ‘Calm Down.’

    He became just the second African artist to perform at the BRITs after Burna Boy who performed at the ceremony in 2019.

    Meanwhile Raye has extended her record as the artist with the most wins in one year in BRITs history.

    She garnered six awards last night, including Best New Artist, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best R&B Act and Songwriter of the Year.

    Afrobeats pop star, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, will perform at this year’s edition of the highest profile music awards ceremony in the United Kingdom, the BRIT Awards.

    The organisers made the announcement via their X page on Thursday, February 15.

    “Stay calm, @heisrema will be performing at the #BRITs 2024.

    “let’s gooooooo,” Brit Awards wrote via X.

    The award ceremony will be held on 2 March, 2024. 

    He will become the second Nigerian artiste to perform at the Brit Awards.
