Remo Stars regaining confidence, says Mbaoma

Victor Mbaoma believes Remo Stars are regaining their confidence after a difficult start to the season.

The Sky Blue Stars welcome fellow relegation strugglers, Wikki Tourist to the Sagamu International Stadium in their next topflight encounter on Sunday.

And Mbaoma is looking forward to building on the result of their last outing on their home ground when they face the Bauchi Elephants.

“We aren’t looking down at our opponent but I can say here that we are gradually getting back the confidence needed to win games,” Mbaoma told Goal.

“We may have struggled to record wins in the past but things have changed. We have now won some games and even picked up points on the road.

“That’s a huge one for us. The biggest was the win against ABS in front of our home fans. That win has raised our confidence level, we shall be inspired by that win to go all out against Wikki Tourist on Sunday.

“We are not in the good position on the league table and that means we can’t afford to make any mistake, neither should we in any way drop points.

“We now have some real confidence going into matches with a positive mindset to pick up a win. So come Sunday,  we shall target a win and then take it up from there.”

Fatai Osho: No more freebies at Remo Stars

Returning Remo Stars head coach Fatai Osho has said that the newcomers will no longer give away points on home soil in the ongoing Nigerian top-flight competition.

“Of course, I want to start my second coming at Remo Stars on a winning note against Lobi Stars. Good enough Lobi Stars are not newcomers to me as I have met the side severally in the past so I’m quite conversant with their playing pattern.

“Lobi Stars are not strangers and if for any reason I lose sleep over a clash involving Lobi Stars what will I do when confronted with other teams. Right now we see ourselves as strong contenders not mere competitors in the top-flight.

“We have resolved to stop being a ‘Father Christmas’ to other teams, the era of throwing away points on home soil has stopped. I cannot be under pressure working at Remo Stars as the players there know their qualities to turn things around positively for themselves.

“If we grabbed the maximum points against Lobi Stars it will help the players to stabilise as well as gain confidence in other matches. We are no longer looking at the negatives but positives as negatives will always weigh us down. I’m certain there is no team without its own negatives,” said the former Crown FC coach to supersport.com.

The Sky Blue Stars have already lost two home matches to leaders, Plateau United and Niger Tornadoes in the eight-week-old top-flight.

Remo Stars not for sale – Soname

Amid speculation that newly promoted Remo Stars of Remo land’s slot in the professional league could be up for sale, Club Chairman  Kunle Soname has vehemently denied the rumour.

According to him: “I have been inundated with calls about the news making the round that Remo Stars slot in the league would be sold. This is not only untrue, but against our aspirations. It is also against laid down principles which we stand for. This is an unnecessary distraction to our plans for the up coming season, but we remain resolute in our preparations for the next football season.”

Soname affirmed that, “Ikorodu United or any other club for that matter have not contacted me about the sale of Remo Stars, so I wonder where this unfortunate rumour emanated from. This defiles any  logic to speculate that a club that threw everything into the fray would suddenly want to sell its hard earned promotion. We won’t be distracted by this type of unfounded speculation, “he said.

  • Remo Stars fault refs for walkout

The final of the Ogun State FA Cup ended in a fracas as Remo Stars failed to continue the match with what they perceived as biased officiating by match officials.

After dismissing DG Babes 3-1 via penalties in the semifinals, Remo Stars set a date with Gateway FC who also beat Juvenile FC 3-0 via penalties, but an anti-climax wasn’t what fans bargained for.

The final was marred by ugly confrontations after Remo Stars walked out and failed to continue the game after Gateway FC scored their third goal.

Remo Stars opened scoring in the encounter through Samson Paul, but Gateway equalised when Michael Okoro turned his marker in to hit a rasping shot into the Remo Stars net. Gateway sped into the lead just before the break through an Afolabi Seun header.

Matters started getting heated up when Saheed Lasisi of Remo Stars got his marching orders and then Gateway FC hit Remo Stars on the break as Remo tried to conjure an equaliser.

Bamgbose Rasheed then scored what seemed to be an offside goal. This irked Remo Stars, who walked off the pitch in protest.

There was a bit of confrontation and pandemonium, as tempers flared with accusations and counter-accusations trading places.

The match officials later awarded the game to Gateway who were declared the 2013 champions of the FA Cup in Ogun State.
