  • Rotary renovates LASPOTECH facilities

    Rotary club of Isolo has renovated the male and female toilets, fixed mosquito nets in the student’s clinic and donated medical equipment’s to the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Isolo Campus.

    According to the Club’s President, Adedayo Dauda, the club also empowered some of the community members by donating grinding machines, generating set, hairdressing equipment and wheel chair to disable person. He added that the club also embarked on free eye screening, noting that glasses were given to those who needed it.

    Dauda said the projects were part of the activities to mark the visit of the District Governor of Rotary International District 9110 Nigeria, Kola Sodipo to the cub.

    Dauda said it is the plan of the club to carry out impactful projects that would add value to the lives of the people in Isolo community, adding that the projects are in line with the six areas of focus of Rotary International.

    They are water and sanitation; maternal and child health; disease prevention and treatment; basic education and literacy; economic and community development as well as peace and conflict resolution.

    He thanked Sodipo for the visit, while also extending his appreciation to the club members.

    Sodipo, while commissioning the projects at LASPOTECH, urged the staff and students of the school to ensure that projects are maintained and always in good condition.

    “Once projects are being maintained in the proper way, it will encourage us to do more beyond what we have done,” he said.

    He also commended the Club for what they have done in the institution.

    Osolo of Isolo Oba Kabir Agbabiaka, thanked the club for the numerous projects.

    He said the projects have impacted the community positively, assuring the club of his support and prayers.

    Chairman of Isolo Local Council Development Area Shamsideen Olaleye, who was represented by Community Development Deputy Director Alhaji Lekan Otukoya, hailed the club for erecting the 4-way Test in the council premises.

    Total Nigeria Plc has opened two blocks of classrooms at Ibafon Primary School in Apapa, Lagos State.

    The company also furnished each of the six classrooms with desks and chairs, magnetic boards, fans and electric fittings.

    At the ceremony, Managing Director of Total Nigeria Plc, Mr Jean-Philippe Torres, represented by the General Manager for Human Resources and Corporate Services/ Company Secretary, Mrs Bunmi Popoola-Mordi, said the project would reduce overcrowding of pupils and provide a better learning experience.

    According to her, a conducive learning environment plays a crucial role in the development of a child.

    The company chief said access to education was one of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillars.

    Torres said: “Ibafon community is a host community to one of our depot facilities, the Apapa Depot. Education is important to the development of a society, as it contributes towards the economic and social growth of the people.

    “At Total, we have adopted a global societal approach to CSR, which aims at building strong relationships with our stakeholders through structured and constructive dialogue and addressing identified need areas from shared perspectives.

    “We believe that cumulative community actions over the years will ensure an economically viable society, a sustainable environment with a crop of educated population that guarantees a brighter tomorrow for our future leaders and the community.”

  • 1992 Alumni renovates UNILAG’s College of Medicine

    As part of efforts to return the College of Medicine (CMUL), University of Lagos (UNILAG) to former glory, the 1992 Alumni set of the school has renovated one of the students’ hostels.

    This is  to mark their 25 years anniversary as professional doctors. They, in addition, renovated one of the hostels’ toilet, bathroom and the kitchen.

    Shedding light on the efforts o f the alumni, chairman of the group,   Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye, praised the contribution of the 1992 set to embark on such laudable project.

    Dr. Adeyeye said; “It is applaudable to see people doing well. And one can say the 1992 set of this great institution, has done well for the school at large. Though, the government is not funding the school so well, yet there’s a need to keep the school at the same standard where we left it. Other Alumni set of the school should take a que from this and others that have done something similar, to improve the college infrastructure, and keep the standard where it used to be when we were students.”

    Collaborating Dr. Adeyeye’s statement, one of the 1992 set, Dr. Adebimpe Adebajo acknowledged the influence of the institution on her career and her peers, “As a group, we realised some years ago that we all left medical school nearly 25 years ago. At least, some of us are dead and the many of us that are much alive are doing well- in and outside the shores of this country. If not for this college, we won’t be where we are. And we just want to thank God and give back to the college which is why we renovated the school’s toilet, bathroom, and the kitchen in one of the hostels.”

  • Firm renovates HoS complex in Calabar

    An Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) firm in Cross River State, First Rhema Solutions Limited, has renovated and restored electricity to the Office of the Head of Service (HoS) complex at the new secretariat in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).

    The firm also supplied security gadgets to security workers of the complex.

    The company’s General Manager Mark Osim Awa said First Rhema Solutions also renovated many other government offices.

    He said the company trained civil and public servants in the use of the ICT to enable them become more useful to their offices.

    Awa said: “It is part of our company’s corporate social responsibility, as a way of paying back to where we do our business, to improve the business environment. We do this in all the states we have our operational offices.”

    The company chief said First Rhema Solutions was established to respond to provide computer services and skill training to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in line with modern technological demands.

  • Nigerian Breweries renovates PHC

    It was excitement all the way as residents of Akerele, Surulere on Lagos Mainland, trooped out for the inauguration of the renovated Akerele Primary Health Care Centre (PHC) by the Nigerian Breweries.

    Majority Leader at the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabia-mila, was there.

    The sections renovated were the general outpatient, child welfare and cold chain office. The maternity was renovated two years ago.

    According to the Corporate Affairs Adviser, Nigeria Brewries Plc, Mr Kufre Ekanem, the rationale for the project was the fact that “effective primary health care is important for the country. Effective delivery of vaccinations, maternal care and treatment of common diseases, such as malaria is essential for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

    He added: “This year marks the 70th anniversary of our operations in the country. Through these decades, we have partnered with and supported the development aspirations of the people of Lagos. This project is a fulfillment of out bewing a better world initiative. In particular it fits into one of the six focuses of the sustainability agenda: Grwoing with com-munities.”

    Gbajabiamila thanked the company for the gesture, saying after 70 years of utilising resources and partnering with the area, there was nothing too big to give back.

    “Surulere is a peaceful area of the state. The residents deserve the very best. Your effort is recognised. You can do more for a community that has hosted you for 70 years,” he said.

    Akwa Ibom renovates 10th Anniversary building

    Once a hide out for miscreants and destitutes for many years, The Tenth Anniversary Hotel Complex in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital is now back to life.

    This comes on the heels of a massive renovation executed by the Akwa Ibom State government.

    With this renovation, The Tenth Anniversary Hotel Complex, located on the Sir Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, has left many in awe considering its previous state.

    Governor Emmanuel Udom, while inspecting the complex, expressed satisfaction at the level of work carried out on the building.

    He praised the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal, Mr. Enobong Uwah and his counterpart in the Ministry of Special Duties,  Etido Inyang, for a job well done.

    Udom said with the completion of the renovation, ministries, agencies and parastatals occupying rented apartments would be accommodated in the building.

    He, however, declined to disclose the cost of renovation of the once moribund complex.

    Fidelity Bank renovates school in Lagos

    Fidelity Bank Plc has handed over a renovated, fully equipped block of classrooms to Ibafon Primary School, Ibafon, Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area, Apapa, Lagos.

    The lender said the education sector remains critical to driving socio-economic development. The school project was initiated and implemented by the staff of Apapa Region of Fidelity Bank Plc., under the auspices of the Fidelity Helping Hands Program (FHHP).

    Speaking at the occasion, Managing Director/CEO, Fidelity Bank Plc, Nnamdi Okonkwo said that the project is  part of the banks efforts aimed at improving the education sector in the country.

    Okonkwo said Nigeria’s  quest to be among the leading global economies  will be a mirage without a formidable workforce, a spin -off  of a sound education sector . He explained that  the FHHP is the Bank’s approach to giving back to the society.

    Okonkwo, who was represented by Obaro Odeghe, Head, Apapa Regional Bank, enjoined other private organisations to partner with the government in its efforts to revive Nigeria’s ailing educational system and bring back its lost glory. Odeghe promised that the Bank will return next year to renovate the other blocks of classrooms and equip them with state-of-the-art furniture and equipment.

    In his remarks, the Local Government Education Secretary, Solomon Aboluwodi commended Fidelity Bank Plc., for undertaking such a monumental project in the local government,. He noted that the  financial institution is already trailing the blaze in the CSR space and called on other corporate bodies to emulate Fidelity Bank. According to him, “if we have up to five organisations like Fidelity Bank in our different communities, the society will be a better place”.

    Corps member renovates school, donates furniture

    A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Lateef Babatunde, has renovated a block of classrooms in Mararaba Primary School in Lafia, the state capital.

    After the renovation, Lateef painted the classrooms and donated furniture to the facility.

    The classrooms had been abandoned for years, without roof, doors and louvers.  All the chairs and desks in the classrooms had also broken before the Corps member’s intervention. The school is the only primary school serving three communities of Mararaba, Gandu and Akunza.

    The project, according to Lateef, gulped N352,000 and it was unveiled last Thursday in a ceremony well-attended by residents of the three communities.

    The Deputy Governor of the state, Hon. Silas Agara, represented by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Mrs Phoede Onje Gywado, said the Corps member’s gesture would not be forgotten, describing the school renovation as “selfless service”.

    She said: “We appreciate the Corps member’s kind gesture towards lifting the communities. This is a landmark achievement and a testimony that he is doing well in serving his fatherland.”

    The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia, which is the Corps member’s place of primary assignment, Prof Ekanel Braide, represented by Dr Chris Echeta, said other Corps members should emulate Lateef’s gesture.

    He said: “If there are 1,000 Corps members that can replicate this kind of gesture in their places of primary assignment, the country would have been better than this. Lateef is not from this part of the country but he expends his strength, energy and initiative to develop another man’s community. He should be rewarded for the action.”

    The NYSC Zonal Inspector in the council, Felix Tomori, said the Corps member was undaunted despite challenges he faced to source for funds for the project. He urged community leaders to always partner Corps members in carrying out developmental projects.

    Lateef, a graduate of Political Science from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, said: “I am happy that God used me to solve a six-year problem facing the three communities. While I faced challenge of funding, I am able to complete the project because of my passion for education.”

    He advised Corps members to embark on life-changing project, saying they should not be discouraged by challenges.

     

  • Firm renovates LUTH facility

    The Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Construction, Sijibomi Ogundele has renovated the Male Orthopeadic Ward E2 of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Mushin in Lagos, in fulfilment of part of its corporate social responsibility initiative

    Speaking at the unveiling of the renovated facility, Sijibomi said he was born in the hospital and therefore wondered what he could actually give back to it.

    He said he visited the hospital’s Male Orthopedic Ward E2 and decided to upgrade the bad condition of the toilet facilities.

    Sijibomi further said that one of the heads of departments told him that about one thousand people make use of the facility every month, which really inspired him to offer the gesture.

    The entrepreneur, however, promised that his company would continue in goodwill activities that will have a strategic impact in the life of people.

    The Head of Department, Nursing Services, Adetayo Taiwo, lamented that the place is always flooded with water, adding that patients did not enjoy good toilet facility until when Sijibomi came to their aid.

  • Corps member renovates toilet

    A corps member serving in Bakassi in Cross River State, Johnpaul Nnamdi, has renovated the toilet of Community Secondary School in Esighi Bakassi.

    The youth also donated toilet facilities to the school.

    Johnpaul  said the renovation was necessary because the toilet was in a deplorable condition.

    He said the pupils and staff of the school deserved a good environment to promote learning, noting that as part of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) initiative of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), he would ensure a clean environment in the school to achieve the MDGs and impact positively on his host community.

    In promoting the MDGs, Johnpaul has held hand washing campaign across various schools in Bakassi and trained volunteers to achieve the objective. He also donated clothes, bags and sporting kits to schools in the community.

    When the toilet was unveiled, the school principal and teachers praised the corps member for the effort.

    Johnpaul said: “I carried out several projects in fulfilment of my duty as a MDGs volunteer and I believe it will lead to sustainable development in my host community and beyond.”

    He added that he actualised the projects with the help of the community residents, political and traditional leaders.
