  • Christ’s School 1978-80/79-81 set reunites

Over 250 students, males and females, met in 1979 at Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti when they constituted the Lower and Upper Six HSC classes. The encounter was uniquely distinct because the two classes paraded students from various secondary schools of repute in the old Ondo-State and other parts of Nigeria including those that had their first five secondary classes at the school.

Another interesting thing about the two HSC sets is the fact that a considerable number of us were friends from secondary school days and the HSC created an opportunity to reunite again while we made new lasting friends in the school and built enduring relationships till date.

For the past 17 years, we had a yahoo-group  platform for the two sets where we exchanged views through emails. However, since June 2017, it has been refreshing for 130 of us to have a Reunion Platform called Christ’s School HSC 7881 family, where we compare notes and reach out to one another. It is a joint forum for the two HSC sets that parade professionals who have distinguished themselves in their respective callings.

Christ’s School experience remains indelible in our minds that those who spent few days, weeks, months, a term, a session and the two sessions together remain bonded in the spirit of Up School for life.

Consequently, members of HSC 7881 decided to hold an exclusive reunion this Easter in Lagos primarily to give thanks to God for keeping us alive for the past 40 years since we met at the great School on Oke Agidimo and to see as many faces as possible that can make the event.

Our Special Guest of Honour is Chief Mrs Oyin Ade-John, nee Odesanmi, of Usi-Ekiti. Mama is the founder and proprietress of Omoleye Group of Children Schools in Lagos. The octogenarian was of the 1946 set with school number 46/001.

God willing, we will plan our maiden Homecoming and a bigger reunion that will hold at Christ’s School premises at a later date. It is our hope that we will be able to consider lending our support to the collective effort on the restoration of the lasting values that made the school great with the hope that the handing-over scheme would happen soon under the leadership of our distinguished Alumni President, Dr Justus Uduimo Itsueli.

Up School – Not in Name Only But in Deed and in Truth.

Ogun reunites 22 additional Libya returnees with families

The Ogun State government has again reunited 22 additional Libya returnees with their families.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Bolaji Oyeleye, who welcomed the returnees at the June 12 Cultural Centre at Kuto in Abeokuta, the state capital, said they comprised 19 females, one male and two children.

The commissioner said Governor Ibikunle Amosun had approved a token to facilitate their journeys to their homes.

He recalled that the state, in January, received 64 returnees from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and reunited them with their relatives, adding that the government would ensure that the fresh returnees are safely reunited with their loved ones as well.

In a statement yesterday by his Press Officer, Mr. Goke Gbadamosi, the commissioner expressed optimism that the lessons the returnees learnt during their travail would deter other youths from trying to cross to Europe at all cost.

Oyeleye said: “We are happy that the returnees have been brought back safely. As you can see, most of them are being welcomed by their relatives whom we had earlier contacted to come and receive them.

“This is the second batch. As you know, we received 64 of our people earlier in January. We hope to continue with this process until all our people have been safely returned from Libya.”

The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Kunle Osota, thanked God for sparing the lives of the returnees.

He assured them that they would be well rehabilitated and properly reintegrated into the society.

Osota urged the returnees to be part of Nigeria’s positive evolution, adding that it is essential for them to contribute their quota to building the nation.

One of the returnees, Miss Christiana Olatoye, described her experience and those of several others as harrowing.

She said the evacuation showed that the Federal and state governments cared about the safety of Nigerians abroad.

She didn’t crave for the limelight; she just stood with the crowd downstairs. I admire that. But I didn’t see @rudeboypsquare yesterday, he didn’t come on stage.”

M.I reunites with Jesse Jagz in new single

Recently, Chocolate City President, Audu Maikori, revealed that the quartet of MI, Ice Prince, Jesse Jagz and Brymo might reunite. That dream, it appears, might just be underway.

Days after the release of the cover of Drake’s Pound Cake, MI has released another single, Summer Time, but this time, it features established rappers, including Ice Prince, Loose Kaynon as well as his brother, Jesse Jagz.

This gives credence to Maikori’s recent statement on the possibility for Ice Prince, M.I, Jesse Jagz and Brymo to work together. The Choc City boss led the signing of all the artistes, but Jesse Jagz and Brymo left the label in 2013, creating a void in its ranks.

“Break ups and estrangements in this industry is nothing new and what is important is the essence of what brought us together, which is music, and as long as it is music, there would always be that togetherness…Let’s wait, there may be a few surprises very soon,” he had said.
