Not-too-young to prostitute: Rhodes-Vivour makes it to ADC harem

    By Seye Oladejo

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) wishes to remind Lagosians that the latest comic relief in our politics – Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour’s defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) – is nothing more than another desperate hustle by a man who has made political prostitution his career path.

From his forgettable beginnings in the obscure Kowa Party, to his short-lived PDP romance, to his opportunistic hijack of the Labour Party’s ticket in 2023, and now to ADC, GRV has jumped more parties than a restless frog hopping from one lily pad to another. Each move leaves behind chaos, betrayal, and laughter from the people who see through his charade.

Let us be clear: Rhodes-Vivour is not building a political career; he is on a political scavenger hunt. He is forever in search of the next platform to abuse and abandon, the next slogan to parrot, and the next crowd to mislead. His politics has no ideology, no direction, and certainly no loyalty – only the blind pursuit of personal ambition.

This is the same individual who famously confessed, “I don’t think in Yoruba.” No wonder he cannot think straight in politics either. A man who disowns his roots at the level of language cannot be trusted to honor commitments at the level of leadership. Today ADC, tomorrow who knows? Maybe the Nigerian Association of Town Union Criers – anywhere that will give him a microphone to shout slogans he doesn’t even believe in.

The Labour Party now crying that his exit was “hasty” should be the last to complain. What else do you expect from a man whose only political strategy is haste – haste to jump ship, haste to cut corners, haste to claim what he has not worked for?

For the avoidance of doubt, Lagos is not a laboratory for serial defectors and confused apprentices. Governance is serious business, not a reality TV show where Gbadebo can change costumes every season.

The Labour Party needs not cry over a candidate who arrived on a night bus, snatched its gubernatorial ticket and left before dawn. We, however, emphatize if the party feels used, violated and dumped.

The question to ask is how will Lagosians risk their mandate with a young man whose only claim to political experience is traversing four different political parties in a short but uneventful political career?

He needs to be told that a rolling stone gathers no moss.

However, he appears to have learnt from the best during his last sojourn.

Rhodes – Vivour will do well to hasten to pay off the rented crowd for his last outing  who are protesting on various social media platforms about the failed promise for service rendered.

History will not remember him as a statesman or a leader. It will remember him as a cautionary tale  – a classic case of “Not Too Young to Prostitute.”

Rhodes-Vivour declares interest in 2027 Lagos guber race

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2023 Lagos governorship election has hinted at running again in 2027.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, he said he wouldn’t give up on actualising his ambition to be Lagos Governor.

He, however, didn’t indicate if he would still use the LP platform or contest under another political party.

In the 2023 election, Rhodes-Vivour secured 312,329 votes to place second behind the winner, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who got 762,134 votes.

“By God’s grace, yes,” he confirmed when asked if he would join the 2027 governorship race in Lagos State.

“I believe that if all parties do not come together, it is going to be a waste of time running in 2027 because there is a full state capture happening in this country now.

“We cannot afford for the opposition to be separate. For now, my job is to ensure that I have a strong party – Labour Party.”

APC vs LP: Rhodes-Vivour’s comment has vindicated Kalu, says group

The Democratic Vanguard of Nigeria has stated that the recent declaration by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State, that the party will “take over” the State in 2027, has vindicated Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu.

In a statement by its President, Dr. Usman Haruna Gambo, the group flayed Obi Aguocha, the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia-North/Umuahia-South Federal Constituency of Abia State and other Labour Party leaders and their supporters for attacking Kalu who they criticised after he called on Abia Governor Alex Otti to rejoin the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in a viral video.

Gambo stated that Aguocha and other LP members, who attempted to defame Kalu for urging his Governor to rejoin APC should now reconsider their actions, given that their party member has publicly boasted about taking over Lagos in 2027 without considering the will of the people.

He urged Aguocha and the other LP leaders to apologise to Kalu, emphasizing that political marketing should not be used as a means to tarnish the reputation of others.

“The Democratic Vanguard of Nigeria, an umbrella organization of apolitical groups dedicated to upholding democratic principles in Nigeria, wishes to categorically state that the recent boastful comments by the 2023 Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, that his party will ‘take over’ the state in 2027 has vindicated the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu,” the statement began.

“Ironically, Rhodes-Vivour made these remarks in Abia State, where Kalu had called for Governor Dr. Alex Otti to rejoin the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that was criticized by the Labour Party.

“The hypocrisy surrounding Rhodes-Vivour’s comments demonstrates the biased and sentimental approach of the Labour Party. It is concerning that the party criticized Kalu for suggesting Governor Otti rejoin the APC, while applauding Rhodes-Vivour for his vow to take over power in Lagos in 2027. This highlights a lack of regard for the people, who ultimately hold the power to choose their leaders.

“Furthermore, we call on Obi Aguocha, the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia-North/Umuahia-South Federal Constituency of Abia State, as well as other Labour Party leaders and supporters, to reflect on their unjust criticism of Kalu and issue an apology to the Deputy Speaker if they have any integrity.

“The same people who sponsored e-rats to attack Kalu over his comment have suddenly gone dumb now that Rhodes-Vivour has said worse. Labour can say they will take over Lagos Government House in 2027 but APC cannot say they will take over government house in Abia in 2027; what’s different from what Rt. Hon. Kalu said? The wailers should be seen now attacking attacking Labour Party. Their failure to do that means they were all paid e-eats. Rhodes-Vivour came to Abia and boasted that the Labour Party will chase APC away in 2027, and we are watching to see if the self-acclaimed ‘defenders of democracy’ will drag each other for sounding ‘undemocratic’ like they accused Hon Benjamin Kalu.

“We wish to commend the Deputy Speaker and his supporters for the maturity they demonstrated during the unjust attacks from LP leaders and their supporters.”

Shun tokenism, address challenges sustainably, Rhodes-Vivour urges Sanwo-Olu

The 2023 Lagos governorship candidate of the Labour Party(LP) Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has challenged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to frontally address challenges facing the State.

He was reacting to Sanwoolu’s media chat where measures including a 25% reduction in public transportation costs, daily feeding initiatives and a shift in the work schedule for civil servants were unveiled.

He argued the measures fell short of addressing critical concerns such as stagnating real wages, productivity and improved living standards.

According to him: “The decision to reduce civil servants’ workdays to three will potentially impact negatively on productivity.”

He proposed wage adjustments to combat inflation, subsidised transportation and meal tickets for workers to provide more comprehensive support and avoid potential productivity shortfalls.

Rhodes-Vivour also criticised the government’s decision to initially eliminate subsidies on public transportation despite increased revenue from FAAC.

He advocated for direct state intervention in public transportation, involving the purchase of government-operated CNG-powered buses and effectively subsidising for a specific class of citizens.

He urged the administration to “move beyond tokenism and short-term solutions as sustainable efforts are necessary to address the multifaceted problems faced by households and businesses in Lagos State.”

Rhodes-Vivour’s wife apologises, thanks husband for paying debt

Ify Aniebo, the wife of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party‘s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 election in Lagos State, has issued a public apology to a former employee who recently accused her of not paying his salaries.

Following her husband’s intervention in the matter, she expressed her apology on her X account on Thursday, January 25, stating that a different approach might have resulted in a different outcome.

She wrote: “I have taken time out to reflect and now it’s clear to me I should have handled events differently. It didn’t have to come this far and I sincerely apologise.

“This is a teachable moment for me and I strongly appreciate the constructive criticisms. I will handle things better going forward.

“Forget all this ‘shalaye’ on the timeline, you’re eating well this week – and I’d also be on the menu.”

The Nation reported Rhodes-vivour apologised and requested a resolution of the matter as he proceeded to pay off the debt and the matter was laid to rest.

Lagos LP Gov candidate Rhodes-Vivour pays wife’s debt after social media backlash

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Lagos governorship candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, has paid back his wife’s debt after receiving backlash on social media.

Chike Jones, an X user who worked for Ify and GRV’s project Afroscientric.com as a writer and social media manager, claimed to be owed for over eight months.

Reacting to this, Rhodes-Vivour, wrote: “I have spoken to Chika and extended an olive branch in acknowledgement of an episode that I hope we can put behind us and look to better days ahead.

“I believe this episode to have been an exception, rather than the norm, at least considering the context.

“The situation has been rectified and his due paid. I also want to express my gratitude to everyone who offered their support in de-escalating this situation.

“I thank Chika for his understanding and willingness to move forward and also thank him for his support during the campaigns.”

Jones provided an update on the situation, on Tuesday stating that Rhodes-Vivour contacted him and settled the debt.

He wrote: “Someone I know who also knows #GRVlagos reached out and arranged a call a few minutes ago. On the call was GRV, his media manager, myself, and the mediator.

“The media manager started by apologising. Then #GRVlagos came on and said he wanted the matter resolved and he would pay the money before today ends. I said no problem but I asked #GRVlagos why #IfyAniebo refused to pay me. The reason given was: She felt unhappy with the work I had done.

“I made it clear that it was both a lie and a wicked thing to say, and there the matter closed. I will be expecting my payment as promised, and once I receive it, I will update this thread with a screenshot.

“Thanks to everyone, friends, strangers, and acquaintances for raising your voice. When you need help, I hope people will raise their voice for you too.”

Sharing further updates on Tuesday, Jones wrote: “I have received payment from #GRVlagos. Screenshot here.

“A final update on this. I have been paid by #GRVlagos. I appreciate him stepping up in a difficult situation. The debt is paid. Ozoemena.”
