  • Winners emerge in Ribena/Lucozade’s ‘Back to School’

    The first set of winners have emerged in the 2017 edition of Ribena/Lucozade’s “Back to School” promotion, exciting shoppers of the products.

    Five lucky winners of N100, 000 scholarship were given their winnings  at the head office of Suntory Beverage and Food Nigeria, Lagos, in the presence of regulatory officials of lottery promos.

    Suntory Beverage and Food Nigeria Managing Director, Chinedum Okereke, said the promo was designed to help children return to school and alleviate the burden of school fees payment by parents in these challenging times.

    Okereke said:“The promo embodies Ribena’s motto of Goodness made fun, as we strive to make the high-pressure, back-to-school period more fun for children and parents.

    “This is our own little way of thanking our esteemed consumers for their continued loyalty and patronage over the years, and also reinforcing our dedication to helping the Nigerian child achieve his/her dreams.

    “We also want to use this as a platform to reach out and encourage patronage from new consumers, mummies, daddies, uncles and aunties are all enjoined to participate,”he added.

    Ribena set to award 1200 children for exhibiting good values

    Suntory Beverage and Food Nigeria Ltd under The Ribena Bridges to Goodness School Project, makers of Ribena, a nutritional fruit drink, on May 27th – Children’s day, will be recognizing and awarding 1,200 children across 600 schools who have over the last months displayed good values and exemplary character and inculcated them in their everyday living.

    Ribena initiated this life impacting good values intra-school program over a month ago in partnership with Bridges To Goodness Projects to further entrench good values and healthy living among children in schools across Nigeria.

    The 1,200 children to be celebrated were selected from participating schools and were awarded based on a pedigree of the good values and exemplary character they have inculcated and exhibited. Ribena is putting this event together with the hope of making the world and our society a better place.

    Speaking on the forth coming maiden edition of the “Ribena Good Values Awards”, the Brand Manager, Ribena, Mr. Essien Ekemini said we have chosen to mark this year’s children’s day by celebrating and awarding one thousand and two hundred children from various schools across Lagos who participated in The Ribena Bridges to Goodness School Project an initiative aimed at helping young children learn to make better life choices and lead value-driven lives that would mould them into better individuals and citizens in future.

    According to Ekemini, “Ribena believes that goodness takes hold when it is made fun and interesting. Ribena believes that fundamentally, imbibing and building good values in children will ultimately translate into a better society with responsible citizens. Ribena also believes that when these good values are delivered in a fun manner, they stick better with children easily. This view expresses Ribena’s new positioning of “Goodness Made Fun”. This is why we will be awarding 1,200 children on Saturday.”

    Announcing the programme earlier, the Marketing Director, Suntory Beverage and Food, Mrs. Rosemary Akpo, said the programme is a national initiative that is strategically important particularly now that young people in Nigeria are faced with several issues and external influences, which are challenging their development.

    According to Akpo the initiative will go a long way in helping to mould right leaders for tomorrow. We are working at ensuring the programme spreads across the nation and that is why we are partnering with B2G in this first of its kind, program. We are proud that we are supporting the efforts of the parents, guardians and the government to produce young people that will grow with the kind of values that will positively affect lives and also make them relevant in the scheme of national development” Akpo said.

    The “Ribena Good Values” School Programme was flagged off recently with a mandate to interface with public and private schools that desire to participate in the programme.

    Suntory enters Nigeria beverage market in style

    Suntory Beverage & Food Nigeria has announced its decision to enlarge its footprint into the Nigerian food and beverage market. The new owners of the globally popular beverage brands, Lucozade and Ribena promised to sell affordable products to Nigerians of different classes.

    According to the Managing Director, Suntory Beverage & Food Nigeria, Chinedum Okereke, very soon, different classes of Nigerians will be able to get Ribena and Lucozade products at affordable prices ranging from N50 to N200. His words: “Don’t be surprised if you later find a Suntory product at the rate of N25. We want everybody to be able to afford our.”

    This development follows the recent completion of the divestment of the drinks bottling and distribution business between GSK Consumer Nigeria Plc and Japanese global beverage company, Suntory Beverage & Food, which ranks third after Coca-Cola.

    Speaking at a press conference held in Lagos to officially announce the Company’s new acquisition, Okereke, described Suntory’s investment in Nigeria as a development that will yield many positive results.

    “This is a clear demonstration of Suntory’s confidence in the Nigerian economy. The company relies on the strong connection between the Nigerian consumers and its Lucozade and Ribena brands and is especially confident of the nation’s immense potential for economic growth and the impressive productivity level of its people. Our conviction in the Nigerian market is responsible for the company’s decision to invest in the country and contribute to human resource empowerment to run the business as a wholly Nigerian company” he said.

    “As a company, our desire is to consistently provide some of the country’s best quality drinks through well-researched market insight, expertise and dedication and to also deliver high-quality innovative products. Lucozade and Ribena have enjoyed impressive patronage over the years, so with a promise of continuous improvement and providing better value to our consumers, we are convinced of an improved and more rewarding relationship.     Commenting further on Suntory Food & Beverage Nigeria’s entry, Okereke explained that the development is also an expression of the company’s trust in Nigeria as a nation.

    He added: “Suntory Beverage & Food Nigeria is a wholly Nigerian Company both in its operations and its people, we are glad to take off with a dedicated and committed team of Nigerians that will be consistently challenged to create bigger and better brand ideas for our loyal consumers.”

    Addressing Journalists on Tuesday, Okereke observed that although many people are complaining of recession in the country, “Suntory sees great opportunities in the crisis. Nigeria remains a huge market that cannot be ignored with the strong economic indications. We decided to seize the opportunity to backwards integrate.”

    He stressed that the company has been in Nigeria for over 30years, manufacturing from Agbara industrial area of Ogun State. He, however, noted that the company usually import some of its raw materials for production, but has put structures in place which now allows it access to raw materials within Nigeria.

    Okereke stated that Suntory now has local manufacturers that have been trained and empowered to produce raw materials for production. According to him, the global management board plans to have a wholly Suntory Nigeria company to ensure local participation and be able to connect with the people.

    GSK seeks shareholders approval to sell Lucozade, Ribena

    The board of directors of GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria (GSK Nigeria) Plc has called an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders to seek approval for the disposal of the company’s drinks business to the Japanese group, Suntory Beverage and Food Limited (SBF).

    SBF, a leading soft drinks company with total sales of £6.6 billion, is seeking to buy over GSK Nigeria’s drinks business, which included the two iconic brands-Lucozade and Ribena, through its Nigerian subsidiary Suntory Beverage & Food Nigeria Limited.

    The general meeting, slated for July 4, was sequel to receipt of a binding offer from Suntory Beverage & Food Nigeria Limited by the board of GSK Nigeria.

    According to a regulatory filing submitted yesterday at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), shareholders would be requested to approve the proposed sale of the company’s business of  manufacturing, bottling, marketing, distributing and selling of the Ribena and Lucozade brands in Nigeria and all assets attached to or deployed in connection with the business to Suntory Beverage & Food Nigeria Limited.
