    Rite Foods gets waste reduction award

    Food and beverage company, Rite Foods Limited, has clinched the ‘Waste Reduction Initiative of the Year Award’ at the Social Impact & Sustainability Awards (SISA 2024).

    According to the award organisers, Rite Foods’ recognition with the award is “For innovative efforts in waste reduction, setting a benchmark for environmental responsibility and promoting sustainable practices within the industry”.

    Specifically, three initiatives by the company this year qualified it for the award. They include: Rite Recycle Initiative, which is designed to educate children on the importance of recycling in building a sustainable world; Rite-on-the-Beach, which focuses on clearing plastic waste from coastal areas in partnership with Popbeach Club; and its partnership with Sterling One Foundation to carry out extensive clean-up exercises on Lagos beaches.

    Presenting the award to Rite Foods, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CSR Reporter, Eche Munonye, congratulated Rite Foods for its commitment to sustainable practices, adding that “SISA recognizes organisations and individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to social impact, environmental stewardship and ethical business practices”.

    Corporate Communications Manager of Rite Foods Limited, Innocent Adulugba, in his remarks, said as a responsible organisation, environmental sustainability is integrated into the Company’s business strategy and expressed fulfilment that the Company’s initiatives and partnership efforts have been recognized by the wider public, including CSR Reporters.

     “The feat attests to the company’s commitment to sustainable practices geared towards creating more sustainable communities along the Lagos shorelines through Rite-on-the-Beach which was launched in August 2021”, he said.

    He affirmed that ‘Rite-on-the-beach’ sets up recycling ecosystems for plastic collection in coastal communities that lack disposal infrastructure and aims to combat ocean plastic pollution, improve literacy, and create employment opportunities by facilitating the exchange of waste plastic for education scholarships for children in disadvantaged coastal communities.

     “Rite Foods has an unwavering commitment to environmental conservation and has been supporting the Residency Project of the Lagos Eco-Resort, Popbeach Club for students of tertiary institutions in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Law faculties, to keep them enlightened on the values inherent in ecological preservation”, Adulugba added.

    Rite Foods, Sterling One clean-up beach

    Food & beverage manufacturer Rite Foods Limited has partnered Sterling One Foundation to carry out clean up exercise on Alpha Beach at Lekki, Lagos.

    The initiative, which is through the Sterling Environmental Makeover (STEM) programme, caps off the National Sustainability Week Programme of Sterling one Foundation.

    The beach clean-up had participants from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment as well as volunteers including community residents who assiduously worked the perimeter of the beach to remove plastic waste and other pollutants.

    The essence of the exercise was to preserve the shoreline of the beach and raise awareness about the importance of sustainable living.

     CEO of Sterling One Foundation, Olapeju Ibekwe, said: “The Sterling One Foundation has been on this clean-up crusade since 2008. We are encouraged by the partnership and support from Rite Foods Limited at such a short notice.

    “I believe we will do great as the partnership progresses. Again we thank the Baale, Chief Yusuf Elegushi Atewolara, and his people for always opening their doors to us. The Foundation will continue to do more. A clean environment is a healthy environment.”

    Ibekwe also said the beach clean-up is part of the Sterling One Foundation’s commitment to sustainable development through its Beach Adoption Programme launched in 2021.

    According to her, the Programme has empowered local women and youth by training them in waste collection and recycling and by transforming plastic waste into valuable resources that support the economy.

    He disclosed that “The Clean-up events are ongoing in Abuja, Katsina, Asaba, Minna, Enugu, and Port-Harcourt, among others with Coordinators to manage volunteers and logistics, to ensure seamless execution.

    Addressing participants of the clean-up exercise, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Manager, Rite Foods Limited, Dennis Aideloje, said the company is keen on making the best of clean-up efforts in the communities.

    “The focus of Rite Foods Limited is to encourage residents to actively engage to manage wastes responsibly in their communities.

    “As a responsible organisation in the manufacturing sector, Rite Foods Limited is concerned about a clean environment and continues to seek partnerships and collaborations towards environmental sustainability,” he said.

    Aideloje stated that as a manufacturing entity, “we partner to clean up the environment including plastic collection and crave innovative systems for recycling as a means of creating jobs and enriching the community including providing school supplies for children living along the Lagos shorelines.”

    He added that “Through innovations, Rite Foods Limited reinforces the consciousness of responsible waste management which supports sustainability, preservation of aquatic life, and a cleaner environment”.

    Similarly, Mr. Adeoye Babajide from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment & Water Resources acknowledged the efforts of private organisations such as Sterling One Foundation and Rite Foods Limited for such a great initiative.

    He stated that, “The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the good people of the State are pleased to host private organisations that demonstrate high responsibility towards environmental sustainability.”

    The festival was organised by The Bug Detective for young Nigerians who are software developers, quality assurance testers and engineers, software engineers, mobile engineers, as well as those in the technology ecosystem.

    The event, which was held recently at the Charis Centre, Oregun, Lagos, provided a platform for aspiring software developers, testers, and engineers to connect, learn, and develop their skills.

    Chairman Ojude Oba Festival 2024 Planning Committee, Chief Olu  B. Okuboyejo said the highlight of the event will include 90 Age Grade performances dubbed “Regberegbe,” both male and female, with the prizes for the winning team, and the first and second runners-up, and 25 families of warlords, showcasing their dexterity in a peaceful and orderly manner that depicts their experience in warfare.

    He stated that the rich cultural heritage dates back about two centuries and is widely cherished by the indigenes at home and in the diaspora. This year’s edition themed: “Ojude Oba: Peace, Unity and Harmony, Our Gifts”, according to him, re-echoes the pristine objective of Ojude Oba, which is to foster unity and peaceful co-existence in the community.

    Consumer-packaged goods company Rite Foods Ltd has announced the appointment of new members to its Board to propel growth.

    The new Board members include Mr. Kunle Elebute and Isa Mohammed Inuwa, as Independent Non-Executive Directors; Raheem Owodeyi, as Non-Executive Director, and Dr. Kehinde Onijingin, as Executive Director.

    This strategic move was aimed at positioning the business for accelerated growth and enhanced market presence as the Company takes giant strides into the next phase of its growth strategy.

    Chairman of Rite Foods Ltd, Dr. Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa, in a statement, said the Board was “delighted to welcome a distinguished and experienced group of individuals to the Board of Directors.”

        He said the collective intelligence, expertise and experience of the new Board members, working with the old members of the Board, will be instrumental to guiding Rite Foods to new heights of success.

        The Board members are professionals with varied experience from both the private and public sectors in Nigeria and beyond.

        Mr. Elebute is a Chartered Accountant with over 40 years’ experience in consulting. He was Senior Partner/CEO of KPMG Nigeria and Chairman of KPMG West Africa. He has served on the Board of several not-for-profit organisations.

        Mr. Inuwa is a former Deputy Managing Director of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited and former Chief Operating Officer/Executive Director, Support Services at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) where he retired.

        Inuwa, with experience spanning over 35 years, has a degree in Accounting and Masters in Accounting and Finance. He has served on the Boards of many organisations in the Education, Banking, Food & Beverage, and Oil & Gas industries.

        Mr. Owodeyi, an Economist, is currently an Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer of Sterling Bank Ltd. He comes with over 32 years’ experience in the Financial Services Industry.

        On her part, Mrs. Balogun, an Accountant with over 25 years’ experience, is the Chief Financial Officer of Rite Foods. She has a first degree from the University of Lagos in Computer Science and trained as an accountant in the UK.

        She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK as well as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. She also holds an MBA from Cass Business School, UK.

        Dr. Onijingin is currently the Chief Operating Officer at Rite Foods. He has two doctorate degrees in Human Resource Management and Strategic Management and comes with over 21 years’ experience in manufacturing and financial services.

        Board Chairman Dr. Adegunwa is an accomplished industrialist of 60 years’ experience with diverse interests in Photography, Food and Beverage, Insurance, Agriculture and printing. He has served on several Boards and was the Chairman of Sterling Bank Limited from 2007 to 2014.

        Adegunwa is the MD/CEO of Rite Foods. With 27 years’ experience in leadership and business, he has a first degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in International Business from Birmingham City University and the University of Bristol, respectively.

        His leadership and business acumen have positioned Rite Foods Ltd as a household name in the Food and Beverage sector.
