    Suspected ritualist kills three-year-old boy, hides mutilated body in sack

    A suspected ritualist was apprehended by community youths yesterday over the alleged killing of a three-year-old Muslim boy at Aritalin area of Ovom community in Yenagoa Local Government Area.

    The suspect popularly known as Bobby, an indigene of Ovom community, was apprehended at about 8 pm with the mutilated body of the boy while trying to escape to an unknown destination.

    The discovery of the mutilated body angered some Muslims who attempted to mob the culprit but were stopped by Muslim elders and the suspect was handed over to the police.

    A joint delegation of the national leadership of the Association of Women Against Gender Based Violence (AWAGBV) and the Federation of Muslims Women Association (FOMWAN), Bayelsa State Chapter, who visited the family of the deceased boy, said despite the temptation to resort to violence, the peace loving Muslims community would only demand justice.

    A member of the deceased’s family told the delegation that the deceased boy had visited Yenagoa to celebrate Salah, but his life was cut short.

    Chairperson, FOMWAN in Bayelsa State, Hajia Aisha Abeki, who is also a member of the Association of Women Against Gender based violence expressed sympathy over the incident, declaring that women in the state were saddened by the incident.

    The groups condemned the killing and called on the Bayelsa State Police Command to ensure that justice was done.

    Also speaking, the President of the National Association of Women Against Gender Based Violence, Dr. Dise Ogbise Goddy Harry, also condemned  the act and called on relevant agencies to come together to ensure justice.

    The spokesman of Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Musa Mohammed, a Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the incident.

    He added that the matter was under investigation and had been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

    Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has moved Miss Ukamaka Okonkwo, the girl that was rescued from the dungeon of Obi Levi Obieze, the alleged ritualist and kidnapper at Ndiagu Umumba in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state, to a government facility in Enugu for therapy and rehabilitation. 

    The governor also awarded Ukamaka a university scholarship.

    Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, broke the news yesterday.

    The commissioner said the government’s delegation, which included the Deputy Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Council, Nkiru Ugwuagu, and Head, Child Department, Ministry of Children,Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Clementina Ogbu.to Ndiagu Umumba, Ezeagu Local Government Area, at the governor’s instance visited the parents of Ukamaka, and to bring her to the state capital.

    She said her ministry would provide therapy and counselling to Ukamaka before reintegrating her into the society.

    “This is just a way of reassuring her and her parents that they are not alone and to equally put smiles on their faces. The government wants to ensure that she fulfils her glorious destiny because this is a destined child,’’ the commissioner added.

    The delegation also visited Mr. Theophilus Ezih and Mrs. Chinenye Ezih, parents of the deceased boy, Chimaobi Ezih, at Agba Umana, “to commiserate with them over the unfortunate incident. We share their pains”.

  • Suspected ritualists kill, remove breasts of 80-year-old woman

    Confusion prevailed in Arigidi, Akoko Northwest local government area of Ondo state Friday following the killing of an 80-year old woman by suspected ritualists.

    The mother of five, Mrs. Kojusola Mogaji had her two breast clinically removed after smashing her head with dangerous weapon in IMO compound, Arigidi-Akoko.

    The deceased who was an active member of Anglican Church was killed in the night when the other co-occupants of the house had travelled.

    The chewing stick of the old woman was beside her remains.

    It was learnt that neighbours woke up to see her lifeless body in the pool of blood which later attracted many sympathisers.

    One of the deceased’s daughters who is a local government official, Mrs Kehinde Adewumi wept profusely on the callous manner her mother was killed.

    She described the killing as gruesome, urging security agents to do thorough investigation to unravel the mystery surrounding her death.

    A junior brother to the deceased Vincent Sunday, a retired top civil servant described her late sister as God-fearing and peaceful, stressing that she would be sorely missed by the entire family.

    The Divisional Police Officer for Okeagbe-Akoko, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ibitayo Adetaranmi was on ground to convey the corpse to the Mortuary at Ikare Akoko State Specialist Hospital.

    The DPO said police would get to the route of the matter.

    In the past few months, about six women had been killed in Akoko area by suspected ritualists in similar circumstance of removing their breasts.

  • Police rescue six year old child sold to ritualist

    The Police Command in Anambra on Monday paraded one Monday Onyikwa from Umuefi Village, Nteje in Oyi Local Council Area for allegedly selling a six-year-old girl for ritual purposes.

    CP Rabiu Ladodo, who briefed newsmen in Awka, said the suspect was arrested in the bush with the victim, Chisom Egbunu.

    Ladodo said Onyikwa confessed that he was taking the child to one Nnamdi, a native doctor in Nando Village, Anambra Council Area who was also arrested.

    He said the man also confessed that he was paid N100,000 for the trafficking business, adding that the matter was still under investigation.

    The CP also paraded the masterminds of the viral video of a nude woman, Ogochukwu Okafor, who allegedly visited her Facebook friend, Ifeanyi Azotani and was humiliated by his wife and her friend.

    Azotani, his wife Toochukwu and her friend Nwankwo posted the nude video on the internet after the victim refused to pay them the sum of N60, 000 they demanded from her to kill the video.

    The command said it recovered seven cars including one black Toyota Venza, three Toyota Corolla, two Lexus-350 Jeep and a Toyota Rav 4 Jeep from an Asaba based robbery syndicate led by one Paul Chukwuezugo and an accomplice Michael Obinna.

    The commissioner said the syndicate had earlier robbed one Chinyere Onwuzulike of her Lexus Jeep in Orumba North council area.

    Items recovered from them include one Barreta pistol, three IPhone and a Samsung phone.

    He said the suspects have voluntarily confessed to the crime.

    Ladodo said a total of 113 suspected cultists were arrested with 45 of them already charged to court and 33 under investigation.

    According to him 35 of the cultists were screened out. (NAN)

    An-18 year old boy, Samuel Akpobome Emobor, has confessed that he killed his mother and slept with her corpse for the purpose of money ritual.

    Samuel who hails from Oghara in Delta State committed the act at their rented apartment in Ologbo community in Ikpoba-Okha local government area.

    Speaking to newsmen when he was paraded at the Edo State Police Command, Samuel said he was pushed to commit the act by a ritualist who sells drugs in the community.

    According to him, “I wanted to use my mother for ritual. I am 18 years old. My father is dead. It was one man called One Love that told me to use my mother for money ritual. He promised to give me N50,000 if I killed my mother and sleep with her. He said I should cut my mother’s ear and fingers and bring them to him.

    “I wanted to cut the ears and fingers before the people came in. I slept with my mother only once. I pressed my mother’s neck to kill her while she was sleeping. The One Love sells drugs. He put something inside the drink he gave and he told me to go and kill my mother.

    “The day I went to his house with policemen, the man has ran away. I hail from Oghara. I work in a pure water factory.

    “I now feel very bad because I was beaten badly by people. I did what the ritualist told me.”

    Police Commissioner, Babatunde Kokumo, said the suspect would soon be charged to court.

  • Police parade five suspected ritualists with 11 human skull

    The Kwara Police Command has arrested 5 suspected ritualists caught with 11 human skull, various human bones and hair at Aromaradu Area, Adewole Ilorin.

    The state Commissioner of Police, Aminu Saleh disclosed this on Friday, while parading the suspects at the police headquarters in Ilorin.

    Saleh gave the suspects names as: Azeez Yakub, Salima Azeez, Isah Wasiu, Abubakar Isiaka and Soliu Yakub.

    He said that the suspects were arrested by the police on Oct. 5, following the information received from residents of the area.

    He also said that one Segun Akande was arrested on Sept. 22 at Sapati Area Ilorin over alleged theft of one Toyota Serena Bus with registration number KSF 626 XR belonging to KASMAG Transport LTD.

    He added that investigation into the matter was ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court as soon as the investigation was concluded.

    Man apprehended with fresh human head, other parts in Osun

    A 38 year old man, Rasheed Ajibade has been arrested by Osun State police command for being in possession of a fresh head of an unidentified woman.

    Other parts of the woman found on him include her virgina, liver and intestine, two palms, lungs and blood.

    Parading the man with the fresh human head dripping blood at the state Police headquarters, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Wednesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, said policemen on surveillance arrested the suspect at Oluode market, in Osogbo.

    He said:  “He was bringing the fresh human head and other vital organs of his victim from Aagba, a community in Boripe local government area of Osun State. We want to establish the identity of the victim and get to know where and how the victim was killed.”

    The Police boss, who assured that his men would get to the root of the dastardly act, said an accomplice to the suspect, who was in the vehicle, in which the human head was found escaped and efforts were ongoing to arrest him.

    According to him, the fresh human head and other vital organs, severed from the body of the unidentified woman were found in one red colour Isuzu Rodeo Jeep, marked LSD 987 DJ after the suspect was arrested by the police.

    Speaking to journalists, the suspect, Rasheed Ajibade, a native of Ikirun said: “I am an Alfa and herbalist. Somebody, who is known as Olorungbede came to me and said he wanted to do money ritual. I told him the materials for the job, which include fresh human head, private part of a woman and others and he said he would get it by himself.”

    Ajibade, who said he was observing fasting, explained that “the man brought the fresh human head to me today. My plan was to keep the head and other parts in my place till the end of Ramadan fasting before using it for the money ritual.”

    Speaking further, the suspect said the vehicle in which the fresh human head and other parts were found belonged to his brother, adding that “I did not kill the woman. It was that man that brought the human head and other parts to me.”

    Police arrest woman for selling grandson

    The Abia Police Command, on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of a woman, who allegedly sold her three-year-old grandson to a ritualist.

    The Command’s spokesman, DSP Udeviotu Onyeke told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the woman was in the custody of the police in Umuobiakwa, as investigation continues.

    He said that part of the investigation being carried out was to determine the sanity of the woman.

    The woman, who hailed from Onitsha Ngwa in Obingwa Local Government of the state, had left the village with the child and returned a week later to report that he was missing.

    Sources in the village said that when the suspect was questioned about the missing boy, her response triggered suspicion, thereby prompting the villagers to invite the police.

    The suspect allegedly told the police that she sold the boy for N100, 000 to a native doctor in Akwa Ibom and wanted to use the money to buy a motorcycle before end of the year.

    The police spokesman, however, said that the woman had since changed her statement, claiming that the boy was with her sister in Aba.

    Onyeke assured that the police would thoroughly investigate the matter to unravel the whereabouts of the three-year-old boy.

  • Suspected ‘ritualist’ dies in his room in Ondo

    A thirty-year-old suspected ritualist mysteriously died in his room in Ondo State at the weekend while trying to perform a rite.

    The  incident occurred at Igbalaye Street Akure, the state capital.

    He was found dead in his sitting room with one bottle of gin, one bottle of disinfectant, a knife and two dead fowls.

    His body has been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure for further examination.

    The suspected ritualist, who was said to be an auxiliary nurse in a hospital, allegedly locked himself inside his sitting room during the ritual activity, which eventually led to his death.

    A source in the house revealed that they had been suspecting the activities of the deceased for more than a month.

    The source alleged that he had turned the house to a mini hospital, where he used to performed abortions.

    Another source said around 11am on Sunday morning, his wife raised alarm about the incident.

    Other residents stormed the man’s room after breaking the door, where they met him naked on a chair.

    Efforts to speak with the wife proved abortive, because the family and friends prevented her from speaking to reporters.

    Confirming the incident, police spokesman, Mr. Wole Ogodo, said the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for proper investigation.

    Ogodo said it was the man’s wife that came to the station to report the incident, after she discovered that the leaving room was locked.

     

  • Ritualists’ cell found in Ogun

    A cell suspected to be where ritualists house their victims or severed human parts has been discovered in Iyana Egbado village, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

    A young man identified as Gbenga who was found bearing human parts was arrested Wednesday by the police in connection with the cell located under a dual carriage bridge at Ewekoro – Itori stretch of the Lagos – Abeokuta expressway.

    The discovery of the underneath – the – bridge – cell followed the intervention of a good Samaritan who rescued a woman on the verge of being abducted and killed for ritual purposes by the suspect – Gbenga.

    It was gathered that the good Samaritan after rescuing the woman from her would- be -attacker, became suspicious of the cellophane bag the suspect was carrying and upon ripping it open forcefully, sliced pieces flesh believed be human parts poured to the ground.

    The Nation gathered that the Good – Samaritan quickly raised the alarm which attracted  the Egbado villagers but fearing that the angry and curious villagers were about to mob him, he pleaded for mercy, saying he would confess.

    A witness said Gbenga who said he hails from Ado – Ekiti in Ekiti State later brought out his handset and made calls across to some people and thereafter, was whisked away by the police.

    Items which included human parts sliced into pieces, plastic containers filled with human blood, ladies pants, braziers, ladies and men shoes and blood stained dresses.

    Other items included knives, various non – functioning electronics parts, assorted soft drinks.

    When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said it is too early to establish any allegation of ritual – related case against the suspect or ascertain correctly the nature of the strange pieces of flesh found on him.
