    Hefty transfer fee demand by River United stalls my Europe career, says Okpe

    Rivers United attacker, Andy Okpe, has revealed that he decided to stop playing for the Nigeria Premier Football League side because of their outrageous demands that is threatening to scuttle a foreign deal of his.

    Okpe was one of the outstanding players of the Pride of Rivers last season after he joined them from Remo Stars.

    He  has reportedly received several offers from top teams from the continent and Europe but the deal  has been stalled due to high demands by  Rivers United.

    The attacker, via his social media handle, said Rivers United is asking for too much money and scaring his suitors away and as such does not want to have anything to do with them any longer.

    “For those of you asking why am I not playing for Rivers United F. C. This season. They have been making it difficult for me to travel abroad and make good money,” Okpe disclosed on X formerly Twitter. “I told them already I’m done playing for them. I worked hard to get to this level I am. They should accept the offer and let me go.”

    USM Alger  coach  Juan Carlos  Garrido  has tipped his side to grind out a positive result against Rivers United on Sunday in their  CAF Confederation Cup’s quarter final first leg tie in Uyo.

    The Algerian side will face Nigeria’s representative Rivers United in the first leg tie of the quarter-final of the second tier competition this weekend in Uyo and Garrido disclosed that USM Alger would do everything legitimate to secure a good result in Nigeria.

    “We will do everything to come back with a win from Nigeria, ” Garrido disclosed.

    USM Alger topped Group A with 13 points from six games while Rivers United came second in Group C with 12 points from six group games.

    Meanwhile, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced the dates for the Finals of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2023/24 season.

    The Finals will be played on home and away basis in May 2024.

    The First Leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will be played on Sunday, 12 May 2024. The Second Leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will be played the following weekend, Sunday, 19 May 2024.

    The TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Final First Leg will be on Saturday, 18 May 2024.  The Second Leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Final will be played on Saturday, 25 May 2024.
