No crack in Rivers APC, says chairman

•Party chiefs help two events same time

RIVERS State Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Davies Ikanya has affirmed that there is no crack in the state’s APC.

He insisted that it’s unfair to conclude that there is a division just because leaders of the party held two events in the state on the same day.

The chairman said APC  would conduct free, fair and credible primaries in the state.

Ikanya, who spoke yesterday in Port Harcourt, through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media/Public Affairs Consultant, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, maintained that the events in Port Harcourt and Bori-Ogoni showed that APC was united, cohesive and ready to reshape the politics of Nigeria in 2019.

On Saturday, Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor; Director-General of Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr. Dakuku Peterside, governorship candidate in 2015; and other leaders were in Bori-Ogoni to inaugurate the Free Rivers Development Initiative.

On the same day, representative of Rivers Southeast, Senator Magnus Abe, an indigene of Bera-Ogoni, and six APC lawmakers were having in Port Harcourt, a thanksgiving service and reception. It was attended by Governor Nyesom Wike and Rivers APC chairman, among others.

Senate President Bukola Saraki, who was at Abe’s show, expressed displeasure that two events could be held by APC leaders same day.

He called for unity and reconciliation in the party.

Ikanya said: “The two events that took place in Rivers State last Saturday, involving APC faithful, though significant, were organised for two different purposes. While that in Port Harcourt was to entertain friends of the party, to pave way for some PDP bigwigs who are looking for soft-landing to join the party and save their necks, knowing the woes that await them in 2019 and mainly organised to thank God for the victories he granted the party during the last rerun elections in the state against all  odds, including the killing of many of our members.

“The event in Bori, the traditional headquarters of Ogoniland, was held in continuation of the rebuilding and strengthening of the APC, ahead of the 2019 general elections and principally to receive thousands of PDP members that defected to APC.

“We do not have any crack in the APC in Rivers State, as erroneous stated by some of the visitors. The party is now more repositioned to achieve its aim for 2019 general elections, which is mainly to root out the current evil administration in Rivers State, under the watch of Wike.”

Rivers APC chairman stated that no matter the challenges and misinformation peddled by persons who wished members evil, they would be firm in their determination to effect a power change in 2019.

He said: “We know the strategy of Wike, which is to weaken and destabilise the APC in Rivers State, in order to enable him to have an easy ride to the Brick House (Government House), Port Harcourt, but we will like to reassure him (Wike) that his plots have failed.

“Rivers APC’s move to free the state from the shackles of misguided administration and rotate power from upland to the riverine area of the state is a task that must be achieved, no matter the odds.”

Ikanya lauded the elders, political and religious leaders of Ikwerre extraction for accepting that it will be unfair not to support the move to shift/rotate power from the upland to the riverine part of the state, after two of their sons (Amaechi and Wike) would have governed the state for 12 years.

He urged all members to keep faith with the APC, under the leadership of Amaechi, and disregard the few persons disparaging and abusing the minister.

  • Rivers APC urges Wike to aid stranded final-year medical students abroad

RIVERS State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Davies Ikanya has urged Governor  Nyesom  Wike to aid  16 stranded final-year  medical students from Rivers on overseas scholarship.

Ikanya, yesterday in Port Harcourt, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Public Affairs,  Chief Eze  Chukwuemeka Eze, urged Wike, a former Minister of State for Education, not to abandon the Rivers youths.

He noted that the governor refused to pay the fees and allowances of the students, despite his 2015 campaign promises.

All students of All Saints University, St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Canada, they were suspended in September 2016, two months to their graduation, and have not received their allowances for two years and 10 months.

It was learnt the affected students had been at home since their suspension, with their landlords threatening legal actions to recover unpaid rent.

Rivers APC chairman said: “As we prepare to ensure the ouster of the visionless, misguided and opportunistic  Wike government from the BrickHouse (Government House, Port Harcourt) in 2019, I plead with our elders, traditional and religious leaders to intervene and prevail on Wike to save the stranded children of Rivers State from further punishment and suffering, by paying their fees and allowances.

“If not for any reason, let Wike act on humanitarian grounds, if he still has any human feeling, which we know he lacks, in order to save Rivers State from further embarrassment.”

Last week, the parents of 22 final year medical students on overseas scholarship, under the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA), urged Wike to show compassion on their children, by fulfilling his promise.

They admonished the governor to pay the fees and allowances for the 2017/2018 medical final year students of the University of Debrecen in Hungary, to enable them to complete their programmes, obtain their certificates, settle their creditors and return to Nigeria.

The parents solicited the help of Rivers elders, chiefs, religious leaders, men and women of goodwill, as well as human rights organisations to plead with Wike to bring an end to the agonising plight of their children.

Rivers APC celebrates Buhari’s return with solidarity rally

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State yesterday celebrated President Muhammadu Buhari’s return from medical leave, with a solidarity rally.

The party was joined by members of a coalition of civil society and community-based organisations.

APC Chairman in Rivers Chief Davies Ikanya told reporters after the rally in Port Harcourt that the party was happy about Buhari’s return.

Ikanya said the party was thankful to God for bringing the President back and healthy.

He said God disappointed and shamed those not wishing the President well.

“Nigerians voted for Buhari to recover the nation’s economy, fight corruption and fix insecurity. But few individuals, who want to pocket Nigeria, are not happy.

“When corrupt Nigerians saw that Buhari is serious with the fight against corruption and their loot being exposed, they started praying for him to fall ill.

“When he took ill and travelled for medical attention, they prayed he never comes back home. But God shamed them and brought Buhari back hale and hearty,” he said.

The APC chairman alleged Rivers government was operating without a budget for the last two years because the people in authority thought President Buhari would not return.

“Rivers government officials thought Buhari will die and nobody will know their corrupt act. But thank God, he is alive,” he said.

Lucky Worlu, who chairs Emuoha’s  youth organisation in Ikwerre, urged Governor Nyesom Wike to release the statutory security fund to Caretaker Committee (CTC) chairmen.

He said: “He should release money meant for security in local government areas, to Caretaker Committee (CTC), chairmen he appointed for security. Wike should release security vote for Emuoha police division to the DPO. Criminals have taken over councils, nobody is safe here.

“That man representing us in this state is representing himself and his pocket. He is buying out the state, building mansions; visit his father’s compound, you will confirm what I am saying.

“Scores are being killed in the state everyday. Robbery, kidnapping cultism, name it, all manner of crime and criminal activities are going on daily.”

The commander, Civilian Peace Task Force in the Niger Delta, Joseph Ijede, appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the President, saying the economic difficulty will soon be over.

“We are here in solidarity with the President, who returned in good health. We are happy he is back to continue his work. We are hopeful that in no time, everyNigerian will rejoice.”

  • Why Osinbajo should not honour Wike’s invitation, by Rivers APC

Why Osinbajo should not honour Wike’s invitation, by Rivers APC

    Governor attacks ruling party

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has declared that the bad governance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has  left the  country divided.

Speaking while launching the reconstruction/rehabilitation of Abuloma, Fimie, Ozuboko and Amadi-Ama community roads  in Port Harcourt yesterday, Wike said:  “Nigeria is divided because of the APC leadership style.

“Wherever  you  go today in this  country, there is one problem or the other. Is that how Nigerians want it? Certainly not. We need people who will promote peace through quality  leadership.

“The change  they said they are bringing  is fake  change. No person resident in Rivers State who sees what we are suffering from the APC  Federal Government will ever support APC.”

But responding, APC’s State Publicity Secretary Chris Finebone said Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in the state were confused.

Finebone said: “ The bravado you see in Wike and PDP leaders will pale into insignificance as 2019 approaches. Their sins will seal their lips before Nigerians. They will be free but unable to talk; they will be free but unable to campaign. The wrong they have done will go after them.”

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) not to honour Governor Nyesom Wike’s invitation to inaugurate projects in Rivers State tomorrow.

It noted that Wike is capitalising on Prof. Osinbajo’s joke during his earlier visit to Rivers  to inaugurate projects when he referred to the governor as “Mr. Project,” to castigate, taunt, ridicule, insult and abuse leaders and members of the ruling APC.

Rivers APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Chris Finebone, yesterday in Port Harcourt, declared that Wike and his government did not deserve the Acting President’s attention.

The main opposition APC in Rivers said: “The feedback we are getting from our numerous members in Rivers State is that Wike has invited the Acting President to commission some low-profile projects, just to score cheap political points.

“Of concern to us is the fact that the projects are manifestly demeaning for a President to travel more than a thousand kilometres to inaugurate.

“We are of the strong opinion that the Acting President should either reject or decline the invitation. Wike cannot always resort to using APC leaders to ridicule APC members in Rivers State.

“The reference to the Rivers governor as ‘Mr. Project,’ jokingly made by the Acting President the last time he was in Rivers State is still being used by Wike to taunt, ridicule and insult APC and its members in Rivers State to this day.

“We cannot encourage him (Wike) with further materials to continue his anti-APC propaganda against us, in addition to many of our members being gruesomely killed and beheaded in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area and other councils in Rivers State by the killer gangs that Wike activated for the 2015 elections.”

The Rivers governor, at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Monday, while receiving Anglican bishops of Province of the Niger Delta, said Prof. Osinbajo would inaugurate on Thursday, key projects executed by his administration.

The projects, according to Wike, include Chokocho-Umuechem-Ozuzu Road in Etche LGA, IgboEtche-Chokocho-Rumuokwurusi Interchange Road, Rukpokwu Market Junction to Aluu Road in Obio/Akpor council, Rumuokoro Market and Park in Obio/Akpor council and  Ogbunabali Internal Roads in Port Harcourt City council.

Wike said: “As far as God has given us the opportunity to serve the state, we must continue  to partner the church. It is  by God’s grace that we are here. We will do everything to support the church.”

Archbishop of Anglican Niger Delta Province, Most Rev. Ignatius Kattey, earlier in his remarks, stated that the Rivers governor had laid the foundation for the continuous development of Rivers State.

Kattey urged other leaders to come to Rivers to witness the rapid development taking place under Wike’s leadership.

  • No crack in Rivers APC —Caucus leaders

CHIEFTAINS of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers State have advised party members to stop listening to rumours about cracks in the party following the recent reshuffle of caucus members by the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. It will be recalled, that Amaechi through the Implementation Committee on Restructuring of Rivers APC under the leadership of Engr. Sampson Ngenebara dissolved the old caucus members and replaced them with the new members. Though, the dissolution of the old caucus members did not affect the party structure in the state but some of the old members were not happy with the Minister’s action which led to alleged grumbling and discordant tunes among members.

But at a Unity rally/ Thanksgiving organized by the new caucus leader of Obio/Akpor local government area, Hon. Chikordi Ogwurie Dike, top state and national leaders of the party who witnessed the ceremony stated that there was no crack in Rivers APC. From one speaker to the other, the leaders of the party maintained that the change in the caucus members was to strengthen the party and reposition it for 2019 glory, which they said had nothing to do with political witch-hunting or leadership disloyalty as being speculated by some persons.

They called on the old caucus members to support the leadership of the new caucus and work for the progress of the party, adding that for the party to succeed in 2019 the recent restructuring was necessary. Those at the event include, Chief Oji Ngofa, Nigerian Ambassador to Netherland, Chief Andrew Uchendu; Hon. Osita O. Osita; 2015 APC Deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Emeka Bekee; State APC Secretary; Hon Azubike Wajoku; President –General Ikwerre Youth Movement, Hon Lucky Ngozichi Worluh and the Deputy National Secretary of APC, Victor Gidom, and chairmen of the party in the 23 local government areas of the state.

Explaining the reason why Amaechi reshuffled the caucus members, the chairman of the Implementation Committee, Mr. Ngenebara said the reshuffle had nothing to do with anybody but to strengthen the party. He said those who are angry over the decision of the implementation committee should see the change as an act of God for the development of the party. He said: “I want to thank the former leader of Obio/Akpor APC caucus, Hon. Tony Okocha for being here today. His presence at this occasion indicates that there is no problem in Obio/Akpor APC and indeed in Rivers APC. We must work as one and place the interest of the party above our personal interest. “The crowd here today means that the action we took in Obio/Akpor and other Local government areas of the state was in a right direction. I was two years ahead of Amaechi in the university but I respect him so much.

We must follow our leader, Amaechi’s vision.” Hon Tony Okocha, the former Obio/Akpor caucus leader and the new leader Chikordi Dike told the leaders of the party that there is no division in Obio/Akpor APC and that they have only one leader which is Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. The Nigeria Ambassador to Netherland, Chief Oji Ngofa and Chief Andrew Uchendu who has just reclaimed his mandate at the tribunal against Senator George Sekibo of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) noted that APC in Rivers State is intact and only waiting for 2019 to take over the government house. They said many people are not happy with them for not winning the 2015 governorship election in Rivers State, adding that the state has become a thing of disgrace and mockery due to leadership style of the present administration. Ngofa who narrated how he started as a local politician and now as a global personality said Amaechi as a charisma leader, has grown leaders and empowered many people who are now at the peak of their political career.

  • There is no crisis in Rivers APC – Ikanya

There is no crisis in Rivers APC – Ikanya

•Amaechi, Abe feud can destroy party in the state, says Timi Frank

Rivers State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday denied claims of face-off between the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi and the Senator, representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe.

In a press release signed by the state chairman of the party, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, and made available to The Nation, the party described reports of the alleged disagreement as “fake, inaccurate and misleading.”

The statement reads in part: “Our attention has been drawn to all the hullabaloo, fake news and mostly distorted, inaccurate and misleading reports in the media, especially in the social media about a non-existent crisis due to some purported changes in the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State. This is not true, entirely false and misleading. For clarity, we wish to state categorically that: All members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Rivers State are intact. From our ward officers to State party executives, no one has been removed or suspended from office.

“We are aware that our leader, the leader of the party in the state, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, is making some changes in his personal political group, team or caucus in the state. It is his right and prerogative to make any leadership changes within his own political team, group or caucus. Amaechi created the caucus, team or group, appointed its members and leaders and so can make any changes he deems fit with this is personal group, team or caucus. But we must emphasise that these changes by the Honourable Minister of Transportation within his personal political team, group or caucus has absolutely nothing to do with the party leadership structure and does not affect the party leadership structures at all levels in the State.”

He also said “contrary to fake wild speculations and deliberately misleading insinuations, no member of the party in the State is being stopped or prevented from having ambition or wanting to seek for any elective office. And we must reinstate here that no APC member will be stopped or prevented from seeking any elective office.”

The party however reminded and appealed to all APC party members in Rivers State that “we are just half way into 2017, and campaigns for the various 2019 elections are yet to commence.”

Reacting to the development, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has warned against allowing the disagreement between Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, and the Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe, over 2019 governorship ambition to degenerate, saying it may destroy the party in the state.

Reacting to the widely reported sack of some loyalists of Senator Abe by the APC leadership in the state over the Abe’s 2019 governorship ambition, Frank called on the national leadership of the party to urgently resolve the impasse and not allow a repeat of the Kogi experience.

He said: “Our leaders need to be proactive in resolving some of these crises. What is happening in Kogi, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Kano and many other states today is as a result of lack of capacity by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) under Chief John Oyegun, which I have always warned about.

“That of Kogi State has started claiming lives of people we will need their votes tomorrow. Therefore, Rivers State should not join the league of crisis bedeviled APC state chapters when we urgently call the political gladiators involve to order.”

He urged Ameachi, who is the leader of APC in Rivers State, to allow internal democracy to thrive and follow due process if any of the caucus members is to be removed as alleged, saying, “the era of imposition is far gone.

“I believe that it is only God that can give power and not man, despite the power tussles. The imposition that has destroyed other parties should not be allowed in APC, not only in Rivers but across the country, the popular candidate must be allowed to fly our flag if we are truly practicing democracy,” he said.

Rivers APC blasts Wike, others for linking Amaechi to recovered $43m

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, his Ekiti State counterpart, Ayodele Fayose and a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, for linking the recovered $43 million to Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi.
In a statement yesterday by its Chairman, Chief Davies Ikanya, through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Public Affairs, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, the party described the accusation as mischievous, wicked, diabolical, evil and a desperate attempt to run down an innocent man (Amaechi).
It insisted that the transportation minister’s only crime was that he led the APC to defeat a party that prided itself as the largest in Africa.
Rivers APC berated Wike and his “inglorious co-travellers” for allegedly attempting to denigrate and disparage Amaechi over the Ikoyi, Lagos $43 million saga.
It said: “It is very sad and unfortunate that over two years that Amaechi led APC to dust the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general elections, the PDP leaders, up till date, have refused to forgive Amaechi for disgracing them out of power and salvaging our nation from a system whose corruptive tendency is not only contagious, but legendary.
“It is on record that apart from the Abuja residence of Amaechi, he has no other single plot of land in any part of this country. So, linking him to the ownership of the contentious Ikoyi estate and the huge sum of money found in it are nothing but an invidious plot to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it.
“It is sad and shameful that a frustrated and disgraceful group with Wike and Fayose as the key actors should attempt to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of Amaechi, just because he collaborated with other patriotic Nigerians to oust a regime that is now exposed as the most corrupt ever in the history of Nigeria.
“We sincerely sympathise with Wike, Fayose and Fani-Kayode in this failed plot, which has once again exposed them for their lowly type of life, even as we wish to remind them that one day, we all shall stand before God Almighty to give account of the type of politics people like them are promoting in Nigeria, devoid of integrity and ideology.
“It has become very obvious that Wike and Fayose now derive pleasure from mentioning Amaechi’s name whenever any negative thing happens, in order to remain relevant and revive their dwindling political fortunes.
“Instead of Wike and Fayose to face the myriad of problems they have created for themselves, PDP and their states, they prefer to preoccupy themselves with how to drag the name of Amaechi into every imaginable controversy. Their thinking is that by pulling down Amaechi, PDP will come back to power in 2019 to continue with their looting spree and destruction of our economy.
“They (Wike and Fayose) truly deserve sympathy, because they are living in a fool’s paradise, as Nigerians are now wiser and will never entrust their fate in the hands of wicked and shameless looters like Wike and his co-travellers.”
The main opposition party in Rivers also insisted that the former Rivers governor (Amaechi) had nothing to do with either the Ikoyi estate and the huge sum of money discovered there by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
It urged Nigerians to ignore the antics of the likes of Wike, Fayose and Fani-Kayode.

Rivers APC said: “Now that the revealing facts in the public domain disassociate Amaechi from recovered money and luxury apartment, we hereby request the three rabble-rousers (Wike, Fayose and Fani-Kayode) to formally apologise to Amaechi for the false accusation within two weeks or we may be left with no other option, but to brief our lawyers.
“Wike and his confused government in Rivers State should carry out their threat to sue the Federal Government, if by the end of seven days the contentious huge sum is not returned to the Rivers State government or else they should hide their ugly faces in shame, if they should fail to do as threatened.
“We urge the Federal Government for once take the continuous threat from Wike against the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration seriously and call him to order, to avoid the confused undemocratic mind from aborting our hard-earned democracy abruptly.”
The main opposition party also described as unfortunate, Wike’s claim that the recovered $43 million was part of the proceeds of the Rivers State gas turbines sold by the Amaechi’s administration, despite knowing that the money realised from the sale was in the coffers of the government and budgeted accordingly.
It said: “Nigerians can now attest that Amaechi stands as the most vilified and persecuted politician in Nigeria, for his bravery, patriotism and commitment to work for a better future for our country.
“We remain convinced that God who has seen Amaechi this far, will always safeguard him from the Wikes and Fayoses, whose favourite pastime is their obsession to plot Amaechi’s downfall”
Rivers APC also stated that the plot against the transportation minister by Wike and his co-travellers was a satanic project, which Almighty God would continue to frustrate, to the shame of the plotters.

Peterside: no disagreement in Rivers APC

The Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State is united under the leadership of former Governor Chibuike Amaechi.

Peterside, who addressed reporters yesterday in Port Harcourt, the state capital, said there was no disagreement in the state’s APC.

He said: “There is absolutely no disagreement in the APC. APC in Rivers State is united under the leadership of Mr Chibuike Amaechi.

“All of us in the party subscribe to his leadership and we have all agreed to subject ourselves to his leadership.”

Peterside, the party‘s governorship candidate in the 2015 election in Rivers, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) used propaganda to create the impression that there was a disagreement in the APC.

He said: “What is going on is that the PDP has been churning out cheap, stale propaganda to paint a picture that there is division in the APC.

“It is easy to sell the story that Magnus Abe, the Senator representing my Senatorial district, has formed his own camp of the APC. I am in regular touch with Abe and I can say there is no such thing. APC is one, united big family, driven by the passion to offer Rivers people good governance.”

The NIMASA chief said APC was not talking about the governorship candidate for the 2019 election.

  • PDP crisis: Wike’s boast about Supreme Court vindicates us, says Rivers APC

PDP crisis: Wike’s boast about Supreme Court vindicates us, says Rivers APC

The Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) has said Governor Nyesom Wike’s boast of getting justice at the Supreme Court in the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) leadership tussle has vindicated its position on how he was declared governor last year.
Rivers APC, through its Chairman, Chief Davies Ikanya, yesterday in Port Harcourt, said: “The certainty and finality in his (Wike’s) tone and language confirm our position that he bought the governorship judgment and this time round he is ready to buy a favourable judgement for his faction of the PDP at the Supreme Court.
“Indeed, what has become clear is that our consistent position that he (Wike) paid for the Supreme Court judgment that declared him governor of Rivers State is an incontrovertible truth, given facts that emerged after the Rivers governorship judgment, his utterances during his victory church service and his Sunday’s boasts on national television.
“The APC is pleased that the Federal Government is doing the needful by cleansing the judiciary of the rot that allowed the likes of Wike to bribe judges and weaken an all-important state institution such as the judiciary. We believe that Wike targets three major institutions of state which he weakens with bribe money, in order to obtain and retain political power. Those institutions are the judiciary, electoral umpire (INEC) and security agencies.
“For now, whereas he (Wike) is unable to effectively pocket security agencies as in the past, his hold on the electoral umpire and judiciary is still conspicuous, as can be gleaned from the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris’ Panel Report and the widely-circulated audio clip, in addition to his verbal incontinence about the Supreme Court.”
