The chairman of the Obio-Akpor local government area, Chijioke Ihunwo, has appointed 130 individuals to serve as his special assistants.
Ihunwo announced the appointments on some of his social media platforms, stating that the appointments would take immediate effect.
The appointees were named without portfolios in a list that has attracted mixed feelings from various stakeholders.
Most people wondered what the chairman intended to do with such a large number of special advisers, while others concluded it was merely political patronage.

A Facebook user, Jude Ojei, queried the appointment, describing it as excessive.
He said: “What do you need 130 personal assistants for? I know it is for political patronage, but I think it’s too much because you have other political appointees. This is my personal opinion, though.”
Another stakeholder, Chidiebere Dike, wrote: “I love you, Chijioke, and I want you to succeed, but at this point, you are losing it. What does a local government chairman need 130 special assistants for, plus the others you appointed initially, plus your vice and councillors? What is all this nonsense?”
However, Faith Feghelo praised the appointments, describing them as well-deserved.
She said: “Ever since I have known you, you are a detribalised man. Carefully taking a look at your appointments, I see they all deserve the appointments. Congratulations to you and Obio-Akpor Local Government Area for a shift to a higher dimension under your leadership.”
