    ANAMBRA State Police Command has arrested five persons for armed robbery and ritual murder. Some of the items recovered from them are one pump action revolver gun, blood soaked clothes, charms, cell phones, one locally made pistol, cartridges among others. While parading the suspects yesterday at the police headquarters, Amawbia, the new state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Baba Umar, said there would be no hiding place for criminals in the state. The suspects include one Emeka Anorunso (25 years), a vigilante man attached to a brewery depot in Aguata.

    The suspect allegedly killed a yet to be identified person, chopped off the head and buried the remains in a shallow grave within the premises. According to the CP, it was the stench that became unbearable for the workers that warranted the search leading to the arrest of the suspect.

    The suspect is said to be making useful information. The police also paraded two other suspects, Michael Nwokedi (18 yrs) and Praise Okoli (18 yrs) arrested in a blood stained bus marked Awk424X when they were allegedly robbing passengers along New Parts, Nkpor. They were also said to have gone to an old generation bank at Nkpor using a drilling machine and one sawing machine.

    The battle to bring criminals to heel in Imo State is yielding fruit. No fewer than 36 kidnap and armed robbery suspects have been arrested, the state police command said.

    The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, who paraded the suspects at the police headquarters, assured that the offensive against criminal elements in the state will be sustained until heinous criminal activities are curtailed.

    He said that apart from tracking down kidnap and armed robbery syndicates, the Command will also initiate massive onslaught against cult groups who have taken delight in harassing and maiming innocent residents of the state.

    Describing cultism as the “root” of other criminal activities, Ezike said that cultists will be traced to their classrooms, hostels and homes, where they will be apprehended to face the law, even after escaping from the scene of their crime.

    He said, “I am delighted this morning as we showcase our modest achievements in crime management in Imo State since my last parade of suspects in April. Permit me to mention however, that we have also in between the period made public some arrests and recoveries which we thought were very urgent importance.

    “As we approach the second half of 2017, the Command expects increased business activities and human relationships in Imo State. These activities come with its good, bad and ugly baggage. We must therefore continuously be on the red alert so that the less than 7% criminal elements in our midst do not cause us avoidable pains”.

    He continued, saying, “Consequently in the coming weeks and months, our Tactical Operational focus shall be to sustain the momentum in the current operation of identification, arrest, detention and prosecution of suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, cultists and other notorious criminals.

    “To commence the urgent vetting and profiling of communities, organizations, hotels that have shown uncommon notoriety in the provision of safe haven and passages for armed robbers/kidnappers with a view to holding their leadership and owners accountable for their acts or omissions .

    “To sustain high visibility policing as a crime prevention measure and employ forensic technology as a fundamental aid to criminal investigation and detection and to expand the frontiers of police and community partnership through strategic communication and relationship that will continue to stimulate our whistleblowing policy”.

    The Commissioner of Police, attributed the success recorded within the time under review to “the workability of our whistle blowing policy which has encouraged the residents of Imo state to expose criminality and other vices that torment our society, renewed partnership with all segments of the Imo community and good inter-agency cooperation and collaboration, as well as the commitment and renewed zeal of the personnel of Imo state Police Command, using intelligence-led policing platforms and high visibility policing models to achieve efficiency and effectiveness”.

    Some of the criminal syndicate that were busted include a notorious four-man kidnap gang led by a 34-year-old father of seven, which has been terrorizing residents of the state, especially around Avu community in Owerri West Council Area of the State.

    Other members of the gang that was said to be behind the abduction of a female magistrate that was later rescued by the Police recently, were Chima Agujo (20), Tochukwu Chima 27 and Desmond Akano (25).

    Also paraded were members of child trafficking syndicate that specializes in abducting and drugging pregnant women who are kept till they deliver and their babies sold by the gang.

    Names of the members of the gang were given as Chinedu Onyeakosi, Chinaza Onyeakosi and Chidi Donatus, all male.

    The Police also paraded students of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) who were arrested for alleged armed robbery and cultism.

    Items recovered from the paraded suspects, include stolen vehicles, AK47 Riffles, locally made pistols, pump action guns, axe, machetes and other dangerous weapons.

  • Suspected robbers shoot dead corps member in Yenagoa

    Gunmen, suspected to be robbers, at the weekend shot dead a 30-year-old corps member and dispossessed him of his money and other valuables in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

    The Police Public Relations Officer at the Bayelsa Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, confirmed the killing to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday.

    Butswat said preliminary investigation showed that the killing was cult-related adding that detailed investigation was ongoing to unravel those behind the dastardly act and apprehend them.

    According to the Police, the incident occurred on Saturday evening on Melford Okilo Road, INEC/Kpansia area of Yenagoa metropolis.

    The victim, Samuel Collins, was a graduate of Engineering from the University of Benin.

    Collins was accosted by the hoodlums at INEC Road junction on his way to the Nigerian Content Development and Management Board’s office on Isaac Boro Expressway, where he was undergoing training.

    According eyewitnesses, the young man was gunned down when he tried to drag his phones and valuables with his assailants.

    An eyewitness, who wished anonymity, said Collins was shot by the gunmen at a close range on his head.

    He said the bullets from the hoodlums’ guns shattered the victim’s head.

    The gunmen abandoned the lifeless body of their victim, fled the scene after making away with his phone, money and other valuables.

    Some of his friends described Collins as an easy-going and brilliant young man.

    They confirmed that the Police had since removed his body and deposited it at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre,Yenagoa.

    According to them, arrangements were being made to take his remains to his hometown, Port Harcourt, Rivers for burial.

  • Man killed as police engage robbers in Ibadan

    A middle aged man whose identity could not be ascertained as at  the time of filing this report, was killed in Ibadan when operatives of Oyo State Police command engaged a two-man armed robber gang in a gun duel . The incident occurred around 5pm at Adelaja junction, Mokola Ibadan on Friday.

    The victim was said to be dressed in a white shirt and a blue Jean trouser. An eye witness said  that the two armed robbers were on the run with a  bag containing a huge amount of money believed to have been stolen when the police gave them a chase and shot into the air severally to stop them.

    A source said the robbers must have collected the money from one of the “Bureau de change” merchants in Sabo area of Mokola while another source said the robbers snatched the money from a customer of one of the new generation banks in Mokola area of the state.

    When our correspondent visited the spot of the incident on Friday evening, residents gathered in groups to behold the lifeless body of the slain victim before the police took the corpse away.

    An eye witness, Mr. Kabiru Adeoye, who spoke with our correspondent, said the armed robbers were on a motorbike while the police were pursuing them with a white Hilux van. He said the police were shooting sporadically  to scare the robbers when the victim was shot by the fleeing robbers.

    “I was in my shop when I heard the sound of the gun shot. When I came out, I saw people running helter-skelter. I can’t really say who killed the man between the robbers and the police but people said it was the robbers,” he said.

    When contacted, the Police Public Relations office (PPRO) Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the incident, adding that the police recovered a motorcycle and a locally made pistol from the robbers. He said the police had intensified investigation to arrest the fleeing robbers.

    Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives have arrested a suspected armed robber, Nurudeen Kazeem, 27, alias Onyabo, who allegedly injured a policeman in April.

    He was alleged to have killed two persons along Lasu-Igando Road in the past.

    Kazeem, said to be an executioner in Eiye confraternity, was arrested last Wednesday together with Wilfred Ehis, 30, the gang’s alleged armourer, Yusuph Bello, 33, and its rider, Sunday Hassan, 26.

    Kazeem was said to have shot his victims in an attempt to dispossess a delivery man, who brought some phones he (Kazeem) ordered online.

    The suspect, who claimed to be a trained tailor, was said to have shot the policeman twice on the leg to evade arrest.

    A statement by RRS quoted Kazeem as saying: “I have killed two people in the past. One was to complement my initiation into Eiye Confraternity. I was led to a beer parlour in LASU/Iyana-Iba axis, where I was asked to kill a man.

    “I shot the guy there and I escaped. The second guy I shot, I also macheted him. He was a member of Aye (Black Axe) confraternity in LASU/Iyana-Iba area.

    “I and a friend were forcefully initiated into Eiye cult. We were asked by some guys to use our motorcycle to take them to a naming. Those guys changed the route after bringing out guns to scare us and led us into a bush where other innocent young men were to be initiated into the confraternity.

    “In the bush, they beat us mercilessly. That was how we were initiated. Since then, they armed me with gun and cartridges to kill people, particularly, rival cult members. It was while doing this that I was invited into robbery by Cali (Wilfred Ehis).

    “He invited me to assist him in collecting phones from delivery men. He would order the phones online, give them delivery address and we would ambush the delivery man and collect the phones at gun point.

    “I have done this three times for Cali. I took the phones to him in the hotels he stayed. The first operation, he gave me N60,000. The second, he gave me N50,000 and the third, N45,000. The fourth one was the one I shot the police officer.”

    Ehis, in whose possession a short gun was recovered, police sources said had been arrested in April for his involvement in various armed robberies.

    The suspect, the police said, usually lodged in different hotels in the area with his gang members.

    According to the police, all the suspects have been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Sqaud (FSARS), Ikeja for further investigation.

    Two persons suspected to have robbed an East bound luxury bus at the Ogbere (Ogun State) stretch of the Sagamu-Ore Expressway, were shot dead by men of the  Anti-robbery squad attached to the Ogebere-Ijebu Divisional Police Headquarters, Ogun State.

    Their suspects’ remains were dumped at the premises of the Ogbere Police station along with  the three Pump Action rifles, two local pistols and a machete recovered from them.

    Also, the sum of N166, 000:00k, handsets, laptop, wristwatches and other valuables snatched from the victims were recovered by the Police.

    The 34 passenger bus on the fleet of  the Chisco Investment company and marked Lagos AAA 649 XN, was said to have been attacked by the robbers around 1.a.m, who broke the windshields of the bus, forced their way in and evicted the driver before commandeering it into the bush.

    It was gathered that the robbers first used an 18 seater bus to block the access way of the luxury bus, compelled the driver to pull – up and used their weapons to smash their way into it.

    A victim, Donatus Adie, told journalists that the bus took off at  Jibowu in Lagos enroute Aba-Owerri-Port-Harcourt, and that it was when they got to the J4 area of Ogbere around 1.08.a.m that the  robbers struck and dispossessed the passengers of their valuables.

    He said for over two hours the operation lasted, victims were held in terror by the robbers and that even after the suspects had vanished into the bush, the fear – stricken victims stay put in the bush until police rescue team arrived.

    Also, Kunle Apanishile, who said the suspects snatched N30,000 and wristwatch from him, added that he was beaten by them.

    The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told journalists that the police got a tip off that a bus carrying passengers had been hijacked and attacked  at the J4 Junction, prompting the DPO of Ogbere division, Agunbiade Adeyinka and  his team to storm  the area.

    Abimbola said although, the robbers had left the scene when the Police arrived but they traced them to their hide – out in a bush, where two of them  were shot dead while one other escaped with gunshot wound.

    The Police Image maker revealed that the sum of N166, 000 was recovered from the robbers, and said it would be shared among the victims.

    The Abia state Commissioner of Police (CP) Leye Oyebade says his command has upgraded its operational structure resulting in successes in the war against heinous crimes.
    Oyebade also said that the call for the people of the state to come out and give useful information that could help in fighting crimes has been yielding good results as the crime rates in the state has dropped drastically.
    Speaking in Umuahia while parading seven suspected armed robbers and five snatched vehicles which the command recovered, Oyebade said that his command will do everything possible to reed the state of criminal activities.
    Oyebade said that the operatives of SARS attached to Obehie acting on a tip off arrested Iheanacho Enyinna aged 28 years who hails from Ogwe Asa and recovered from him a Passat V/W car with a fake registration number AGL 687 AQ and some parts of Barreta pistol, “Which was used to snatch the car”.
    “The suspect has confessed snatching the vehicle which has KRD 289 AW as its original registration number which was snatched last February at Arochukwu, the suspects is helping us to arrest his colleagues”.
    The Abia police boss also said that his command at Isuochi division arrested Chijioke Okeke of Lokpanta, Umunneochi council area with bullet wounds inside the bush and he confessed to being shot by police patrol team when his gang blocked the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.
     “His arrest and interrogation led to the arrest of one of his colleagues John Nwankwo of the same village while one locally made pistol was recovered from him including a live cartridge, we are working hard to get the rest of his gang”.
    Oyebade said that the patrol team attached to Aba central police station, “While on patrol along Ibere street Aba accosted the duo of Wisdom Benjamin 18 years and Okoro Isaac 23 years who were in possession of a 100 kg bag”.
    “When searched the bag was containing materials already cut for the sewing of boxer shorts and when questioned the suspects confessed to have burgled the tailoring factory of one Christopher Okeke who is their employer”.

    Robbers kill apple seller in Edo 

    An apple seller simply identified as Gideon has been killed by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers.

    The victim was killed at his resident at 7b Egbede street, off New Lagos Road, in Egor Local government of Edo state

    Witnesses said the victim was accosted by the gunmen when he wanted to ease himself at his backyard at about 10pm.

    He was said to have been shot while his cell phones and money were collected.

    Neighbours said late Gideon had collected money from his customers which was to be used the following (today) morning to purchase more goods from Lagos.

    Other residents living in the street were also robbed of money and valuables.

    Edo police spokesman, DSP Moses Nkombe could not be reached.

    The corpse of the victim has been deposited at the Central Hospital morgue by  men of  Okhoro police division.

     

  • Robbers attack Aba residents

    Four  armed men reportedly invaded 63 Erondu by Osusu in Aba North Local Government Area of Abia State, stealing valuables and cash.

    The incident, it was gathered occurred at 1am  yesterday.

    Though no life was lost,  residents said  the robbers had a fill day, as they were  unchallenged by security agents.

    A resident, who gave his name as Chima, lamented the absence of neighbourhood vigilance group.

    He said efforts to reach the Aba Central Police Station (CPS)  failed.

    Police spokesman Geoffrey Ogbonna could not be reached for comments but a source at the Aba Area Command said the matter was yet to be reported.

    Robbers kill policeman in Anambra

    A policeman was killed on Tuesday when a nine-man gang operating on motorcycles attacked some policemen at Nkpor market under the fly-over on the Onitsha/Enugu Expressway, Idemili North Local Government of Anambra State.

    The robbers made away with the dead policeman’s rifle.

    It was gathered yesterday that the robbers, who came on three motorcycles, stormed the police sand bag team stationed in the area and opened fire at them about 8.30pm.

    A source said another policeman, who was shot in the leg, took cover inside the gutter.

    Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ogidi Hassan Musa confirmed the incident.
