    Rotary Club to renovate school

    The Charter president of Rotary Club of Minimah Estate District 9112, Gen. Anthony Onibasa, has reaffirmed the club’s decision to renovate and blocks of classrooms at Military Primary school Ikeja Army Cantonment and Children Recreational park at Minimah Estate Ikeja

    He noted this at the club’s Investiture and Fundraising Ceremony, held at Officers Mess, Ikeja Army Cantonment.

    The Charter President, who had already executed the maternity and child’s health project, said that the Fundraising would further help the club carry out more humanitarian works.

    “We are restoring the children’s recreational park at Minimah Estate and we are doing a complete renovation of ten classroom blocks of Military primary school at Ikeja Cantonment.

    “We are looking forward to executing these projects which we have estimated to cost N25 million,” Gen Onibasa revealed.

    Onibasa also urged like-minded philanthropists to always support humanitarian works and make Nigeria a better place.

    The District 9112 Governor, Lanre Adedoyin, noted that such an event, enables the club to raise substantial funds to execute their projects and make more impacts in the society.

    Mr. Adedoyin, urged Nigerians to be positive and work towards making the country better. The Director General of Nigeria’s National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM) Dr. Olushola Odusanya, lauded the Charter president for executing productive projects in the club,

    Odusanya advised Nigerians to be smart to know that there is a lot within themselves to improve the country. “Believe in Nigeria because we don’t have another place.

    “The good thing about Rotary is that whatever investment is made here, they ensure it’s well utilized. It’s one of those efforts that needs to be supported and Rotary Club has really done well worldwide and their efforts in Nigeria is wonderful. They have really impacted humanitarian lives in Nigeria. It’s voluntary. ,” he said.

    Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Mr. Tunbosun Aruwe, also lauded the club for its generosity towards the LG by providing maternity maternity to the Health Center.

    TGI Group, Rotary promote school sport competition

    The Rotary Club of Minimah Estate District 9112, in collaboration with Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group, has taken humanitarian work to Military Primary School Ikeja Army Cantonment.

    They sponsored the school’s Year 2025 inter house sports competition, held at the Cantonment.

    Speaking at the event, the President of the Club, Gen. Anthony Onibasa (Rtd), said the gesture was part of the Club’s humanitarian work and a corporate social responsibility for TGI Group.

    Gen. Onibasa (Rtd), buttressed the importance of sports in helping to boost coordination, academic dexterity, good health and vitality.

    “Traditionally, Rotary has seven areas of focus: one of them is basic education and literacy. We also adopt a community where we demonstrate Rotary values. This school is one of the communities we have adopted for Rotary work.

    “For good health and vitality, sport is a key factor. So we decided to sponsor their inter-house sports. And in their words, this is the best inter-house sports they ever had. And we are going to do more for the community,” he noted.

    Club seeks greater value for society

    Rotary Club of Gbagada South has pledged more commitment to offering greater value to humanity.

    President, Niyi Adegbite, gave the promise at his installation in Ikeja. Lagos.

    Adegbite, the 23rd president, said during his tenure, attention would be given to the seven focal areas of Rotary; education, empowerment, maternal and child heath, among others.

    He said: “We are committed to react to the idea of service. We are addressing the ones that offer the greater value to humanity. We are committed to accelerating education and literacy. And to that end, under my leadership, we have donated to schools and their libraries in Gbagada.”

    He said he gave out N1 million interest-free loans to some women to empower them and items to expectant mothers.

    He planted trees as well as sponsored youths to Rotary Youth Leadership Academy.

    Adegbite promised to further raise membership from 86 he meant in 2020, adding that 15 would be sworn in at the event.

    While thanking his colleagues for the honour, he urged them to assist him in building a virile club.

    He promised to build on the legacy of his predecessor, Oluwasegun Sanu.

    Sanu equally thanked the club members for the opportunity to serve and that he was leaving behind a strong association. He noted and listed the laurels the club won during his tenure, saying without them, he would not have succeeded. He urged them to support Adegbite.

    Adedoyin said: “And the club has been doing a lot and I’m happy that the club has given effect to the service project delivery that it sought to do from its partners and non-Rotarians.

    “So, for us, today is the day of celebration and I believe that at the end of the day, the club will be the better policed. We have been able to raise money and also we have also inducted 15 new members into the club. I want to congratulate the president of the club and the members for the giant strides that they have attained since the inception of the club.”

    On his expectations from the new president, he said, “My expectation from him is that he will continue to sustain the tempo of service, deliver on the promises or the pledges that he made to members of his club and our friends are well with us and I believe that he will be able to do that.

    “So, my expectation is that he will fulfill the object of Rotary and make an impact during his time.”

    The Installation Committee, Ezekiel Balogun, a past president of the club, said the event was two-fold: the inauguration of the president and fundraiser for their programmes.

    Chairman of the occasion/ Executive Chairman, Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) Ayodele Subair, advised the club members to be alive to their financial obligations. He said this became important as Rotary depends on them to fund its projects and programmes.

    At the event were Alaketu Kingdom, Oba Isiaka Oyewo Balogun, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State governor on Tax and Revenue, Abdul-Kabir Opeyemi Ogungbo and Iranola Ayodeji, Chairman, Netfors Solutions Limited, who was the keynote speaker, among others.

    Rotary Club of Omole-Golden in Lagos State has donated school bags, water bottles and exercise books to pupils of Ajuwon Senior High School, Ajuwon, Ogun State.

    The initiative is one of many projects carried out under the leadership of Subcommittee Chairman for Basic Education and Literacy, Juliana Odekhian, in collaboration with Project Chairman/Vice-President, Sam Imonode.

    The President, Adekunmilola Adio-Moses, represented by Imonode, delivered a welcome address, setting the tone for a memorable event. Boluwatiwi Ayo-Opaleke gave an inspiring speech that encouraged pupils to remain focused, dedicated and hardworking.

    Headteacher, Mrs. Omolara Osewa, thanked Rotary Club of Omole-Golden for its support in the past decade.

    She shared stories that confirmed the club’s commitment to the school and the impact its efforts had on pupils and community.

    The school’s Interact President, Kehinde Fathia, thanked the club for its generosity, noting the impact the donations had made in the lives of pupils and the school.

    ‘’This donation is not only in recognition of the Basic Education and Literacy Month, but also reaffirms Omole-Golden’s dedication to fostering education and empowering young minds.’’

    Club sinks borehole, eases water shortage

    Rotary Club of Egbe in Lagos State has inaugurated a borehole project in Bolorunpelu, Ikotun, to alleviate the area’s water scarcity and enhance access to clean water.

    The project, executed under the President, Nneka Anaemena, was inaugurated during the visit of the District Governor of Rotary International District 9111,  Henry Akinyele, at Egbe Road, Ejigbo.

    Anaemena said the initiative was conceived following a needs assessment by the club in communities and schools.

     She said the survey showed that Bolorunpelu had no functional water source, leaving residents dependent on vendors.

    “We discovered this community did not have good water; in fact, they had no water because the well they had dried up. The only way they got water was by paying Mallams to fetch water for them. So, we concluded that they needed a borehole in Bolorunpelu,” Anaemena said.

    She added that the club had taken measures to ensure sustainability of the project by handing it over to the community’s Baale, for proper management and maintenance.

    “We wanted a project that would last long in the community. The people are excited about it, and we are happy to see their joy,” she added.

    The Baale of Bolorunpelu, High Chief Sanni Lateef Babatunde (Ogunyomi Asambe I), expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Egbe for what he described as a compassionate and impactful intervention.

    “We thank Rotary for this project. It will go a long way in easing our water challenges and improving our quality of life,” the Baale stated.

    In his address, District Governor Akinyele commended the Rotary Club of Egbe for its commitment to community service and for implementing projects that address pressing social needs. He reiterated Rotary’s mission of advancing sustainable development and improving living conditions across communities.

    The event also featured economic empowerment activities aimed at supporting residents’ livelihoods, underscoring Rotary’s dedication to fostering community growth through humanitarian initiatives.

    District Governor-elect, Bukola Bakare, said their journey for the year had started.

    She urged them to live to their responsibilities and formulate the learning needs of the district and fashion out ways of maximising learning experiences of members.

    Rotary Club honours OESCAF for humanitarian service award

     For its outstanding contribution to humanitarian service and public health advocacy in Nigeria, the Rotary Club of Gbagada has honoured the Okeoghene Eterigho Sickle Cell Awareness Foundation (OESCAF)  with a recognition award.

    The award was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester and Erezi Eterigho, founders of the foundation, in acknowledgment of their relentless efforts in creating awareness on sickle cell disorder and supporting individuals and families affected by the condition.

    OESCAF,  in recent years embarked on several free medical outreaches across Lagos and other parts of the country, offering healthcare, education, and relief materials to vulnerable communities.

    Its interventions, the Club noted, have continued to bring hope to many battling the burden of sickle cell disorder.

    At  the presentation, the President of the Rotary Club of Gbagada described the honour as well-deserved, adding that organisations like OESCAF are filling critical gaps in healthcare delivery and community development.

    The recognition, stakeholders observed, underscores the impact of non-profit organisations in complementing government’s efforts to address pressing health challenges and improve the well-being of Nigerians.

    For the Eterighos, the award is another milestone in their journey of transforming personal experiences into purposeful service and advocacy for the common good.

    Rotary Club donates furniture, sanitary items to primary health centre

    The Rotary Club of Alakuko, under District 9111 Nigeria, has donated durable wooden benches and essential hygiene items to the Abule Titun Primary Health Centre in Alakuko, Lagos State.

    According to the club, the donation was made to support and celebrate Rotary International’s Maternal and Child Health Month and the International Breastfeeding Week, in order to enhance the comfort and dignity of nursing mothers accessing healthcare services at the facility.

    The club noted that the iron-reinforced wooden benches will replace worn-out plastic chairs and ensure nursing mothers have a safe and comfortable space for breastfeeding and postnatal care.

    The club also distributed sanitary pads, washing detergents, and packs of yoghurt to support the health and nutrition of nursing mothers.

    Speaking at the event, the Club’s president, Oludare Oyegbola, said:  “We discovered that the plastic chairs were no longer durable, so we decided to donate sturdy benches that will allow mothers to breastfeed their babies with ease and comfort,” he said.

    He explained that maternal and child health is one of Rotary International’s core focus areas, with July dedicated to this purpose, highlighting the organization’s global efforts to improve healthcare access and outcomes for vulnerable populations.

    The immediate Past President of the club, Idowu Makinde, praised the execution of the project, describing it as “an applaudable gesture” that reflects the club’s dedication to community service. He also commended the Lagos State Government for its ongoing efforts to strengthen primary healthcare infrastructure, while urging further expansion across local wards.

    The club’s President-elect, Saheed Olaogun, encouraged hospital staff and beneficiaries to care for the donated items, pledging continued support for primary healthcare centers in the community.

    Receiving the donations, the hospital’s Matron, Mrs. Bosede Oladipupo, expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club for its consistent support over the years. She emphasized the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a child’s life, noting its critical role in child development and maternal bonding.

    “Mothers should understand that exclusive breastfeeding is not just a health recommendation—it’s a foundation for a healthier future,” she said.

    Rotary club of Port Harcourt Gateway gets new president

    Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Gateway has inducted Rotarian, Ben Emeruwa, as its new president, ushering in a new era of service to humanity. 

    Speaking at his investiture ceremony and induction of Board of Directors in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, Emeruwa outlined his vision, emphasizing its commitment to community service and humanitarian projects.

    While reeling out his vision for the club in the years ahead, the new President said his administration would focus more on community impact, collaboration, and leadership development.

     He said the club’s primary focus will be on providing clean water to areas where access is limited, aligning with Rotary International District 9141’s water and sanitation initiative. 

    This, he, said aimed at reducing water-borne diseases including diarhhea and dysentery and improving the health and well being of the people. 

    Emeruwa said the club though based in Port Harcourt would be extending his long arm of hope to areas within Rivers State and other states including Abia state where its flagship project tagged “Project Free Water for All”, a 4,000 litres solar power borehole project would be executed. 

    He pledged to work tirelessly to ensure that the club’s projects and initiatives make a transformative and meaningful impact in the communities.

    While acknowledged the  remarkable leadership provided by his predecessors, Emeruwa promised to sustain the tempo of excellence as well as setting a high standard for the club.

    Rotary club raises N80m to equip fire service in Ikoyi

    Rotary Club of Ikoyi, District 9112, has raised over N80 million to support firefighting in Ikoyi, Lagos State, in addition to healthcare projects, and others.

    The funds were raised at the installation of the 41st President, Clare Omatseye, and induction of 2025–2026 board, at MUSON Centre, Lagos.

    Omatseye is managing director of JNC International Limited. She has been a dedicated Rotarian for over 22 years and a Paul Harris Fellow, including International Service director, committee chair, Rotary Foundation chair, vice president, and president-elect.

    The fundraising, chaired by Spencer Onosode, attracted former Group Chairman of Seplat Petroleum, Dr ABC Orjiako; former Minister of State for Petroleum, Odein Ajumogobia; Prof Fabian Ajogwu (SAN); Managing Director of Access Bank, Roosevelt Ogbonna, who pledged support for the project, and others.

    New District Governor of District 9112, Lanre Adedoyin, hailed the club on installation of its president and board, assuring them of his support to ensure the project’s success.

    A key highlight of the ceremony was unveiling of Omatseye’s pet project, to equip Ikoyi Fire Service with a borehole, personal protective equipment, and other firefighting gear, costing millions of naira.

    Onosode said Omatseye’s professionalism, commitment, and passion for human capital development is excellent platform for donors to partner the club’s humanitarian services.

    In his valedictory address, the immediate Past President, Emmanuel Efuntayo outlined the club’s achievements during his tenure, citing the provision of a N9.2 million solar-powered device to the Motherless Babies Home in Lekki, a gesture that earned commendation from the Lagos State Government.

    Delivering the keynote address on ‘Building Sustainable Communities through Collaborative Action,’ Prof. Ajogwu emphasised that sustainable communities thrive across generations by addressing multiple human needs simultaneously, empowering diverse voices in decision-making, and ensuring shared prosperity.

    He noted that such communities integrate environmental stewardship, economic inclusion, and social equity into comprehensive, long-term plans, adding that: “they must meet today’s needs without compromising future generations’ ability to meet theirs.”

    Guests also commended the club for its longstanding commitment to humanitarian causes and pledged their continued support.

    The occasion also featured the induction of honorary members into the Rotary Club of Ikoyi, including Chairman Onosode, Professor Ajogwu, and Mr Ajumogobia.
