    Rotary Nigeria urges FG to grant tax waiver to donor companies

    Rotary International, Nigeria Chapter, has appealed to the federal government to extend tax waivers to all its donor companies.

    The call was made by District 9112 Governor, Chief Olufemi Adenekan, during a press briefing in Lagos on Monday, as the organization marked its 120th anniversary.

    While commending government support at all levels, Adenekan emphasized the importance of granting tax exemptions on products and services donated for humanitarian efforts, to further strengthen the impact of Rotary’s charitable initiatives.

    “This group has grown into 55,000 clubs and over 1.4m membership gboball.

    “Rotary has always been a pace-setter in humanitarian services.

    “Rotary was instrumental in the formation of the UN and it still influences the activities of the world.

    “While we thank our government at all levels for their support, we want to appeal to the Federal Government to grant tax waiver on products and services donor firms and agencies are donating to assist our services.

    “The tax waiver is necessary for us, I mean our partners whenever they support rotary events.

    “And these are events that are transforming life and changing the world.

    “So, when rotary is put on the list of organization that are given task waiver waiver, it will help us get more support from funding partners, and this will help us in doing more to our community and community beyond.”

    On what the group ha done in the Rotary year, Adenekan said it budged above N500m out of which his administration through various programmes had expended about N200m.

    He said the world and Nigeria in particular needed more people to join Rotary family to make the country better.

    As part of what his administration intends to do, is to build a vocational centre in Lagos. This is to boost skill acquisition drive for Nigerian youths.

    “As we speak, we are on a mission to build a skill acquisition centre in Epe, Lagos. This is to boost skill acquisition of our teeming youths. 

    “We are doing this in conjunction with the Lagos State Government, which had given us a landed property, and we’re currently working towards perfecting its documentation.”

    He praised the founder and all partners for their unrelenting support towards their their ideals and activities.

    Speaking earlier, Chairman, Planning Committee, Mr. Gboyega Bada, a past president of Rotary, said the District decided to review its milestones since Rotary was established in Nigeria.

    Bada, in his welcome address, itemized activities for the week to include a webinar dedicated to the youths, linking up with 120 countries all over the world, 

    visiting the homes for the old people and a medical outreach, anniversary walk among others, said the event was meant to tell their stories.
