    Lufthansa, Royal Air Maroc renew NAHCO’s deals

    Two of world’s leading airlines, Lufthansa and Royal Air Maroc, have renewed their ground handling contracts with the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) Plc, West Africa’s largest ground handling service provider.

    The contracts, which will run for five years, will see NAHCO providing ground handling services to the two global airlines in Nigeria.

    The contract with Lufthansa, a leading European carrier, will run from May 01, 2024, through April 30, 2029.

    The contract with Royal Air Maroc is a comprehensive one; for both Lagos and Abuja destinations. The Royal Air Maroc – LOS will run for five years from May 01, 2024, through April 30, 2029. For the Abuja contract, a new location for the Airline, the contract runs from May 01, 2024, through April 30, 2029 as well.

    Group Executive Director, Commercial and Business Development, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) Plc, Prince Saheed Lasisi, said the new contracts were coming at a time when NAHCO is massively increasing its capacity with the recent purchase of new ground support equipment.

    “Lufthansa and Royal Air Maroc have made the right decision in staying with NAHCO, evidently the largest handling provider in the country. We just took delivery of billions of naira worth of equipment which would be deployed to service these valued partners. It is a thrilling development,” Lasisi said.

    Group Managing Director, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) Plc, Mr. Indranil Gupta said the new contracts were great partnerships at work.

    He assured the airlines of exceptional service delivery noting that NAHCO has been doing a lot in the area of manpower development and equipment purchase in order to be able to give incomparable service.

    “We are always happy to serve clients who depend on us to further grow their businesses. We will always go the extra mile to ensure that we support them to keep their promises to their clients to offer the best service,” Gupta said.

    He pointed out that the company recently announced the deployment of several new equipment to some of its stations. The deployed equipment comprised several units of pushbacks, ground power units, aircraft cooling units, aircraft air start units, tractors, reach trucks, forklifts, cargo and baggage carts, and pallet dollies.

    According to him, the deployment would be the first in a series of massive equipment replacement embarked upon by the company which has set for itself an ambitious target of excess ground support equipment in two years.

  • Moroccan carrier cancels 10 flights due to “tension’’ with Pilots

    Morocco’s Flag Carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), announced that 10 of its flights on Friday have been cancelled due to “social tensions.’’

    RAM tweeted that the cancellations concern flights between Morocco’s largest airport Casablanca and several cities in France and Italy.

    Tensions between RAM and its pilots have intensified since Monday, after the failure of reaching an agreement between the pilots association and RAM’s administration.

    The association said in a statement on Friday that a “heavy social climate’’ prevails over the company, adding that it has “exacerbated by 20 months of sterile social dialogue.’’

    On Tuesday, RAM Director Abdelhamid Addou criticised in a letter to the association in what he termed as “the absence of willingness to see the company developing,’’ stressing that organising a strike “will have devastating effect’’ on the company.

  • Honour for Royal Air Maroc

    Liberian President Mrs Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has presented the medal of Commander of the Order of the Star of Africa to Royal Air Maroc, for the services performed during the crisis of the epidemic of Ebola that hit the country. The award was received on behalf of the company by Mrs.Habiba Laklalech, Director General Adjoint.

    The exemplary attitude of the crews of Royal Air Maroc, taking off every night to ensure regular connections between Morocco and African countries exposed to Ebola epidemic, is the current illustration of the sense of responsibility that drives Morocco under the leadership of majesty King Mohammed VI, noted the president.

    Royal Air Maroc had announced in August 2014 its decision to maintain its flights to countries affected by the epidemic of the virus: the Guinea Conakry, Liberia and Sierra Leone, in a responsible solidarity approach.

    The company provided transport for more than 150,000 people at this time of crisis on flights between the countries affected by the Ebola virus. The maintenance of flights of Royal Air Maroc allowed to open up the populations of these countries and to contribute to the struggle against the epidemic

    Royal Air Maroc has been awarded the 4 stars label by Skytrax at the Paris Bourget Exhibition. Skytrax is an  organization known worldwide for its audits and assessments of the level of services in various aviation trades. The award was presented by the president of this international organization, Mr. Edward Plaisted to the President of the national company, Mr Driss Benhima.

    This recognition comes only one year after the awarding by Skytrax to Royal Air Maroc of the 3 stars label . This denotes the great efforts made during these last months by the national carrier to enhance, in record time, the level and the quality of its services. This distinction propels Royal Air Maroc among the major international companies in the African continent.

    Highly coveted by the airlines, the Skytrax award is a worldwide reference in the air transport sector.

     

    Based in London Skytrax is a reputable organization worldwide for its serious investigations, scientific and objective classifying which result in penalizing the quality of services within the airlines. Its awards are sort of barometer of excellence in the air transport industry.

  • Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc begin joint business

    Qatar Airways has signed a business partnership agreement with Royal Air Maroc, a statement by the Moroccan carrier has said.

    The statement quoted the Qatar Airways’ Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Akbar Al Baker, and the Royal Air Maroc’s Chairman, Mr. Driss Benhima, as saying that the agreement involved commercial cooperation, which would result in significant benefits for passengers of both airlines.

    According to the statement, Royal Air Maroc will operate three weekly flights between Casablanca and Doha.

    The agreement was signed at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai in the presence of journalists and travel trade partners.

    It said the join business would benefit passengers by providing better links between Qatar and Morocco, greater choice of flights to more destinations and enhanced frequent flyer benefits, adding that with the new agreement, passengers would be able to purchase a single itinerary combining flights on both carriers’ global networks, affording them the ease of one stop ticketing and baggage check in.

    The statement read: “Royal Air Maroc will be operating three weekly flights with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner to Doha complimenting Qatar Airways’ existing seven times weekly to Casablanca, giving passengers the flexibility of using a combination of flights from both airlines and aligned fares on their journey to and from Qatar and Morocco, significantly increasing their options.

    “Qatar Airways and Royal Air Maroc will also be improving flight transfers for passengers through enhancing and expanding the code share network beyond their respective hub cities of Doha and Casablanca”

    The Royal Air Maroc boss was quoted as saying that “the Moroccan company is pleased to conclude the historic partnership that consolidates fraternal relations between the two countries”

    He said:“This agreement is a crucial phase in the history of the Royal Air Maroc since it allows a bridge between Asia and African that will facilitate the movement of customers in the best conditions due to the extensive network of Qatar Airways in Asia and the dense network of Royal Air Maroc in Africa by transiting through the hubs of the two companies”.
