RUSAL ALSCON Preserves a Team with Valuable Competencies

We are confident that our readers will find it interesting to learn that RUSAL is represented in numerous parts of the world. For example, the company is actively operating in Guinea, where approximately 1,400 people are employed, and annual bauxite production is close to 7 million tons. In January 2015, RUSAL opened a modern Center for Antiviral Diseases in Guinea, which includes an infectious disease ward, a mobile laboratory, a blood transfusion unit, and a 60-bed hospital. Over $10 million was invested in the construction and equipping of the center. It played a crucial role in the battle against Ebola, with a 62.5% recovery rate among patients. In June 2020, a modern center was opened at the Friguia Hospital, which has 38 beds and is organized according to international standards. It includes an infectious diseases department, isolation units, and an intensive care unit with more than 100 beds.

RUSAL’s assets are spread across many parts of the world: in Europe, Australia, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. Its production facilities include electrolytic and foundry plants, mines, enrichment plants, bauxite and alumina production quarries, and iron and motor roads. In 2024, aluminum production reached 4 million tons and bauxite production reached 6.4 million tons. RUSAL employs approximately 50,000 people directly and up to 150,000 indirectly across its operations. In 2024, RUSAL also acquired a stake in the Wenfeng plant in China, which focuses on alumina production.

In Nigeria, RUSAL ALSCON operated an aluminum production facility. However, production was halted due to gas supply interruptions. From 2007 to 2013, the plant produced approximately 76,000 metric tons of aluminum and employed 800 people. In 2008, the plant produced over 9,000 metric tons, in 2009 over 10.5k metric tons, in 2010 more than 17,500 metric tons, in 2011 around 15,000 metric tons, in 2012 more than 21,000 metric tons, and in 2013 over 2,000 metric tons.

RUSAL’s Efforts to Revive Aluminum Production

The leadership of RUSAL is putting in significant efforts to resume aluminum production. High-level negotiations are ongoing. The volume of work related to maintenance and restarting production is increasing, and RUSAL ALSCON is expanding its contractor staff, with a focus on developing local communities. A large amount of attention is being given to the healthcare of employees and their families. The clinic currently serves 600 people, including both employees and their family members, with approximately 60 daily visits.

This program includes in-demand industrial disciplines such as Fork Lifting, Welding, and Mechanics, along with initiatives in IT and Telecommunications. There is also a focus on the newly established vocational training center for acquiring domestic specializations and qualifications. In June, the leadership decided to install solar panels at the center, ensuring that training can continue regardless of power supply issues. Computer literacy classes for the local population are also being conducted.

RUSAL hasn’t forgotten the young members of its employees’ families and the local community. A playground has been set up for the children.
