    Four Justrite staff docked for alleged theft of Heineken beer

    Four men, Olumide Ogunwamide (30), Temitope Oluwaniyi (29), Vincent Azime (32), and Fatai Unman (30), were on Wednesday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly stealing valuables worth N125,000 belonging to their employer.

    The accused, whose addresses were not disclosed, are facing a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on December 27, 2017 at about 2.00 p. m. at Justrite Shopping Complex, Ota.

    He said that the accused, who are staff of Justrite Ltd, conspired among themselves to steal Heineken beer and other items valued at N125,000 belonging to their employer.

    Gbesi said the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol.1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

    Banwo said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.

    He also ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government and submit four recent passport photographs to the court.

    The case was adjourned until February 21, for hearing.

    Court arraigns man for collecting motorcycle under pretence

    A 40-year-old man, Samuel Misshoun, on Friday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly collecting a motorcycle under false pretence.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    He said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, swear to an affidavit of means and submit four recent passport photographs to the court.

    Banwo also said that the sorties must show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.

    He adjourned the case till Oct. 6, for hearing.

    Woman docked in Ota for threatening neighbour’s life with cutlass

    A 56-year-old woman, Blessing Oyetu, was on Monday arraigned in an Ota Magistrate’s Court in Ogun, for alleged threatening a neighbour’s life with a cutlass.

    Oyetu, who lives at No. 16, Fatade Street, Akeja, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and threatening of life.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 19 at about 5.00 p. m. in Akeja, Ota.

    Gbesi said that the accused conducted herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace, by using a cutlass to threaten one Bode Olabisi and forcefully entering the complainant’s compound to make trouble.

    He said that the offence contravened Sections 80 and 249 (d) of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted her bail in the sum of N150, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Banwo said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means of livelihood.

    The case was adjourned till Oct. 10 for hearing.

    Court jails 45-year-old man for stealing motorcycle in Ogun

    An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, on Monday sentenced a 45-year-old man, Anthony Ogbodu, to one year in prison for stealing a Bajaj motorcycle valued N150,000.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, who gave the ruling, did not give the convict any option of fine.

    Ogbodu, whose address was not disclosed in the court, had pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of stealing.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 10 at about 1 a. m. at No. 32 Ajala Close, Temidire, Ota.

    Gbesi said that the accused stole the motorcycle belonging to one Taiwo Ige, but was caught by a security guard and handed over to the police.

    Gbesi said that the action contravened Section 390(4) of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun.

    Court jails man eight months for stealing cement

    An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Tuesday sentenced a 45-year-old man, Anthony Ukpe, to eight months imprisonment for stealing 90 bags of cement valued at N229,500.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, who gave the ruling, did not give the convict an option of fine.

    Ukpe, whose address was not disclosed in the court, had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, had told the court that the accused and others at large committed the offence on July 15 at Onihale, Ota, Ogun.

    Gbesi said that the accused and his accomplices stole 90 bags of cement valued at N229, 500 belonging to one Fatoki Sunday.

    He said that the offences contravened Sections 426 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun 2006.

    Woman docked for N650,000 fraud

    A 38-year-old woman, Ajoke Akinleye, who allegedly defrauded one Adetula Ayodele of N650,000 was on Tuesday charged before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

    Akinleye, who lives at No. 14 Shobayo St., Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, Ogun, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence.

    Police prosecutor Chudu Gbesi told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others still at large on June 21, at Ifeoldun St., Owode, Ota, Ogun.

    Gbesi said the accused collected N650, 000 from the complainant to purchase a Mitsubishi car, an agreement she failed to fulfill.

    ”All efforts made by the complainant to get the accused to fulfill the agreement or return the money proved abortive,” he told the court.

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Banwo said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should swear to an affidavit of means.

    He ordered that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and present evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

    Banwo adjourned the case till August 28, for hearing.

    Man jailed three years for theft of church’s drums

    For breaking into a church and stealing a set of drums valued at N75,000, a 44-year-old man, Prosper Onaka, is to spend the next three years in prison, an Ogun court ruled on Monday.

    An Ota Magistrates’ Court ordered that Prosper Onaka should be sent to jail for three years for breaking into a church and stealing a drum set worth N75,000.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, who gave the ruling, did not give the convict an option of fine.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Prosper, whose address is unknown, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of stealing and burglary brought against him.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 11 at 6.30.p.m. at
    Iyana-Iyesi near Ota.

    Gbesi  the accused broke into an Apostolic Church and stole the set of drums valued at N75,000.

    The offences contravened Sections 390 (9) and 415 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
