    Ex-minister Sadiya to return to EFCC today 

    Embattled former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, was on Monday grilled for hours by crack detectives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged laundering of N37,170,855,753.44.

    But in line with the new policy of the commission, Sadiya was asked to go home on bail.

    She is expected to return today, Tuesday, January 9, for further clarifications on sundry issues that the anti-graft agency flagged in the course of its preliminary investigations.

    Another source told the Nation,“We have been grilling her for many hours on all the issues we have isolated for her.

    “In line with our new policy, we will allow her to go home.

    “She will however come on Tuesday for another round of interrogation.”

    N37b probe: Ex-minister Sadiya appears in EFCC to beat ultimatum

    Following the adamant posture of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the 72-hour ultimatum for her, a former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq has reported for interrogation. 

    The ex-minister was invited by the EFCC over alleged laundering of N37, 170,855,753.44 in her ministry during her tenure through a contractor, James Okwete.

    She has asked for a three-week grace to appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

    But the EFCC on Thursday approved only three days for her to attend to her health and appear for interrogation.

    In order to avoid being declared wanted, the Ex-Minister reported at the EFCC’s headquarters a few minutes ago. 

    “She has complied with our 72-hour ultimatum, her investigation by our team has started,” a top source confirmed.

    Sadiya Umar-Farouk, the former minister of social development, disaster management, and humanitarian affairs, has arrived at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters over alleged fraud.

    The ex-minister would be interrogated regarding an ongoing investigation into the N37,170,855,753.44 that was purportedly laundered during her time in office through a contractor named James Okwete.

    It was confirmed that Umar-Farouk finally honoured the EFCC’s invitation at about 10 am on Monday, January 8.

    She also revealed at about 10:20 am, on her X page that she was present at the EFCC headquarters.

    She wrote: “I have, at my behest, arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to honour the invitation by the anti-graft agency to offer clarifications in respect of some issues that the commission is investigating,” Umar-Farouq tweeted on Monday morning.

    The Nation reported that, citing health issues, the former Minister had earlier officially written to the EFCC seeking an extension of the deadline to meet with EFCC interrogators over an ongoing probe into the N37,170,855,753.44 allegedly laundered during her tenure in office, through a contractor, Okwete.
