Bournemouth had already gained wins over Arsenal, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest this season and had almost taken the lead against the Reds when it was goalless, only for Antoine Semenyo’s shot to bounce off the left post.

Semenyo then had a great chance to equalise early in the second half, only for Alisson to make an excellent save with his legs to keep out the well-struck effort.

The chances kept coming for the hosts and substitute Marcus Tavernier hit the inside of the post, with Justin Kluivert wastefully shooting the rebound over the bar.

Klopp wants Salah’s stay at Liverpool

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed hope on that Mohamed Salah will sign a new contract to stay at Anfield beyond the end of this season.

“I hope he stays. He is a fantastic player, a fantastic human being, an outstanding athlete, the best ambassador your country could have. So I hope he will stay at Liverpool,” Klopp replied to a question about Salah from an Egyptian journalist during a press conference in Austria.

Klopp was speaking at his unveiling as Red Bull’s head of global soccer, a role in which he will oversee the energy drinks conglomerate’s football empire.

The German is starting out in the position having left Liverpool at the end of last season, after close to nine years as the club’s manager.

Red Bull controls clubs in several countries around the world, including RB Leipzig in Klopp’s native Germany, while it recently acquired a minority stake in French second-tier side Paris FC.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have enjoyed a seamless transition to life without Klopp, as they sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League and top of the Champions League standings under his successor Arne Slot.

Klopp reiterated that he felt it was the right time to step down at Anfield and said he did not miss the daily grind of club management.

“I am more than happy not to be there,” he said. “It is really great that they are doing so well, I wish them all the best. I watch as many games as I can.

“It is great football. Even if you don’t support Liverpool right now you had better watch them because it is really top football, maybe the best balanced in the world right now.”

The former Borussia Dortmund coach added that he hoped Salah’s fellow stars Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold would also choose to extend their contracts, which expire at the end of the season too.

“I am so happy I am not in charge in that situation, having to answer these questions,” he sighed. “From my point of view I would love all three of them to extend their contracts but I don’t know, they didn’t tell me.”

Asked if he could try to sign any of them for the Red Bull empire, which includes New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer, he responded with a touch of irony:

“Oh yeah. Virgil I am sure would love to have five more years at Liverpool and then play from 41 to 44 for New York Red Bulls because he probably underestimates US football.

“Mo, yes I would love to, but I don’t think we have a chance to pay him to be honest.

“I am just really happy I am no longer a part of it.”

  • Salah picks UCL  Final loss to  Madrid toughest moment

Salah picks UCL  Final loss to  Madrid toughest moment

Anfield will be the epicentre of the Premier League this weekend as Liverpool clash with arch-rivals Manchester United in a titanic showdown. Ahead of the game tomorrow , which will be shown live on Showmax Premier League at 18:30, Showmax caught up with the man of the moment, Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah, to chat about his incredible season so far. Salah is currently the Premier Leagues top scorer  with 17 goals  and also with the most assists  (13).

You’ve had an amazing season so far, scoring 20 goals and getting 17 assists. Do you agree that if the season ended right now you would be favourite to be crowned player of the year and to win the Ballon d’Or?

I don’t know. People see it in different ways, some people prefer me, others prefer other players. So far, I’ve had a good season. But again, the most important thing is to win the Premier League and for me to play a big part in doing so.

Combining goals and assists, you have reached the same number already as Vinícius Júnior did last season. You voted for Vini Jr  for the FIFA Best Player award. Firstly, why did you vote for him and secondly is it amazing that you have his numbers and we are only half way through this season?

Of course,  it’s very good to have those numbers in January. It’s something incredible. I voted for Vini Jr because I like him, and he was great last season. I think it was between him and Rodri last season. Some people preferred Rodri and some preferred Vini Jr so I voted for him and Rodri. Vini had a good season and ended it in a very good way, scoring in the final. They both deserved it, to be honest. I see Vini Jr as a great player. He’s doing good, he just needs to keep going. We text sometimes and I wish him the best. He needs to keep going and enjoy his football.

You scored 44 goals and created 14 assists in your debut Liverpool season. How did you do it? And do you think you can beat it this season?

Hopefully. The plan is to beat those numbers. So far, my numbers are good, so hopefully I can beat it. But again, I don’t want to beat those numbers and not win a trophy. I just want to have a trophy, even if my numbers are a little less.

You have been crowned top scorer in the Premier League three times already. Do you think you can make it number four this season?

The fourth would be quite tricky. We have many good strikers that are scoring lots of goals this season, so it won’t be easy. Winning it three times is something incredible because usually wingers win it once, maximum. I don’t take it for granted. I am humble and privileged to have won it.

Who has been your favourite attacker to play alongside at Liverpool so far?

I like all the guys, to be fair. But Roberto Firmino will stand out as the best. I think myself and Sadio Mane could have been better, but it wasn’t the way I wanted it to end. I like Darwin Nunez a lot. He lights up something in me that no attacker has ever done. He is always running, making those moves for the pass and to receive the ball. He is a different kind of footballer. His movement is amazing, so he may be my favourite.

What is the toughest moment you have endured in a Liverpool shirt?

It has to be the Champions League final against Real Madrid when I got injured. Only footballers will understand just how tough it is to work your hardest the whole season only to get injured in the most important moment of the season, so it was tough.

You won everything you could with Liverpool. How do you feel about the journey and the club?

It’s been an incredible journey. I have enjoyed every moment at this football club, even when we struggled. I have enjoyed the good and bad moments. Some people run away from the bad moments. I don’t. I take in every moment, because I know once I am no longer a footballer, I will never experience these moments again. Also, there are lessons to be learnt in both good and bad moments. So, I take it all in.

Do you feel like you are still improving as a player at 32?

I think so. To this day, I still ask players, the young and the more experienced players, which areas I can improve in. This is part of me. Some people see the things you can’t and so I am always asking where I can improve.  I always feel like there’s improvements in many things in my game.

How has new Liverpool manager Arne Slot been for you and the team as a whole?

The team is really good, and I think we have all improved. We all needed a fresh approach after seven years with Jürgen Klopp where we achieved everything. Hopefully with the new manager, we will win everything too. I am very happy for the team because we are doing so well.

January transfer: PSG table mouth-watering offers for Salah

Mohammed Salah’s contract with Liverpool is set to run out in six months’ time and the Egyptian superstar is now free to negotiate a free transfer with any potential suitors. The Premier League’s top scorer has been very vocal about a lack of progress in negotiations over a renewal at Anfield, with Paris Saint-Germain now aiming to capitalise on the situation.

As per French journalist Romain Collet Gaudin, PSG have already offered Salah a lucrative three-year contract at Parc de Princes. The Ligue 1 giants are prepared to pay the 32-year-old €500,000-per-week in wages as they bid to make him their first marquee signing since the departure of Kylian Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid in the summer.

The  report claimed Liverpool are only willing to hand the Egyptian forward a new two-year deal. Additionally, their wage increase offer to Salah comes in lower than PSG’s at €400,000-per-week.

Liverpool will likely have to up their standing offer if they want to keep Salah at Anfield beyond the end of the season. He is due back in action for Arne Slot’s side in a huge Premier League clash against Manchester United on Sunday.

  • Salah ‘far away’ from new Liverpool deal

Salah ‘far away’ from new Liverpool deal

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah says he is “far away” from signing a new deal at the Premier League club.

Salah, 32, is out of contract at the end of the season and can enter negotiations with non-English clubs on 1 January over a free transfer once his deal expires.

The Egyptian scored his 20th goal of the season as Liverpool beat West Ham 5-0 at the London Stadium on Sunday to extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points.

Asked about his future following the victory, Salah told Sky Sports: “No, we are far away from that [contract] and I don’t want to put anything in the media.

“The only thing on my mind is I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be part of that.

“I will do my best for the team to win the trophy. There is a few other teams catching up with us and we need to stay focused and humble and go again.”

Salah, club captain Virgil van Dijk and England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract at the end of the season.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot says he is not concerned that the trio can, in theory, sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs from 1 January.

“I think I have a lot of control over what they do,” Slot said. “If they’re on a training pitch, if they’re in a meeting with me… but talking about the private lives, I don’t have control about them.

“I have control to a certain extent over them, from what I expect from them on the pitch, and I’m really pleased to see what Virgil brings, what Trent brings and what Mo (Salah) brings.”

Earlier this season, Salah said he was “disappointed” by the club’s failure to offer him a new deal.

After Liverpool’s win against Manchester City earlier this month, Salah said he played the game against Pep Guardiola’s side as if it were the last time he would face them.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy says he is still confident Salah will remain at Anfield.

“I hope it’s a little bit of gameplay in terms of the negotiations (with Liverpool),” Murphy told Match of the Day.

“Every Liverpool supporter wants him to stay and I’ve got a really positive feeling that he’ll stay and they’ll get it done.

“They’re just taking their time – these things do when you’re talking about huge amounts of money.

“He’s the most important player Liverpool have at the moment. They’ve got to get it signed off.”

Salah ‘disappointed’ by lack of Liverpool offer

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah says he is “disappointed” by the club’s failure to offer him a new contract – and looks more likely to leave than stay.

The 32-year-old, Liverpool’s top scorer this season with 12 goals in all competitions, is out of contract at the end of the season.

Salah scored twice in the 3-2 win against Southampton on Sunday, including the winner from the penalty spot, to take Liverpool eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The Egypt forward, who joined the Reds from Roma in 2017, told reporters, external after the win at St Mary’s: “We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club.

EPL: Salah goal sends Liverpool top of table

Liverpool came from behind to beat Brighton at a rocking Anfield and go top of the Premier League on the day their two title rivals both suffered defeat.

Brighton had looked set to move up to third in the table when Ferdi Kadioglu’s fine strike from 16 yards flew in via the inside of the post in a first half they dominated.

But Cody Gakpo’s left-wing cross went straight into the net for Liverpool’s equaliser, his third goal against Albion in four days after his Carabao Cup double.

And Mohamed Salah curled a beauty into the far corner from the right side of the box to completely turn the game around three minutes later.

It was an especially impressive comeback because Brighton had been playing so well – and keeping the home crowd quiet at times.

They could have led by more but Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher saved Georginio Rutter’s effort – before the second-half comeback.

Liverpool, who have won 13 of their 15 games under new manager Arne Slot, are two points above Manchester City after their shock defeat by Bournemouth, while Arsenal were beaten at Newcastle.

‘Trophy-hungry’ Salah hints at Liverpool stay

Mohamed Salah said Liverpool “will fight like hell” to win trophies next season as the Egyptian hinted he will at least see out the final year of his contract at Anfield.

Salah has just 12 months remaining on his deal and has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

The Reds reportedly rejected a £150m offer from Al-Ittihad for the 31-year-old last September.

“We know that trophies are what count and we will do everything possible to make that happen next season,” Salah posted on social media. “Our fans deserve it and we will fight like hell.”

Liverpool won the League Cup in Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge but missed out on the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League.

Klopp’s departure after over eight years in charge of Liverpool has raised doubts over the futures of a number of star players, who rose to prominence under the German’s reign.

Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also entering the final year of their contracts.

Former Feyenoord boss Arne Slot was confirmed as Klopp’s successor by Liverpool on Monday.

Salah: ‘There is going to be fire if I speak’

Mohamed Salah has refused to reveal the reasons behind the touchline disagreement he had with manager Jurgen Klopp during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday, saying: “There is going to be fire today if I speak.”

Klopp and Salah appeared to have a disagreement as the Egypt international waited to be introduced from the bench with 13 minutes remaining, with fellow substitutes Darwin Núñez and Joe Gomez stepping in to defuse the situation.

Salah declined the opportunity to speak to reporters in the mixed zone following the full-time whistle in East London, saying: “There is going to be fire today if I speak.”

The draw dealt a further blow to Liverpool’s fading hopes of winning the Premier League, with Klopp’s team now two points behind Arsenal, who can extend their lead at the top of the table when they face rivals Tottenham on Sunday.

Klopp had earlier declined to elaborate on the reasons behind the disagreement.

“We spoke about that in the dressing room and it’s done for me, that’s all,” the Liverpool boss said.

Salah’s contract at Anfield is due to expire at the end of next season. In February, sources told ESPN’s Rob Dawson that the 31-year-old was one of a number of top Premier League stars who will targeted by Saudi Pro League clubs in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool face Tottenham next Sunday in the Premier League, the first of their three remaining matches of the season, by which time they could be as many as eight points behind Arsenal if the league leaders win their next two of their final four games.
