  • FG threatens to revoke Mubi-Michka-Madagali highway contract in 14 days if…

    Disturbed by the slow pace and poor quality of work on Mubi-Michika-Madagali highway, the Federal Government has served a 14-day revocation ultimatum to the construction firm handling the project.

    The Federal Controller of Works in Adamawa, Mr Salihu Abubakar, confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Friday.

    Abubakar said two other construction firms currently carrying out road projects in the state were also recommended to be served with the revocation notice.

    ” Due to slow pace and low quality of the ongoing Maraba Mubi-Michika -Madagali Federal Highway construction being carried out by Ras Construction Company Nigeria Limited, the Federal Government on March 10, 2019, served the company with 14-day notice for the termination of the contract ,” Abubakar said.

    He said the road project was awarded in the first quarter of 2017 and has a total of 90 kilometers.

    In addition, he said contract for two other road projects may also be terminated due to poor performance.

    The controller listed the roads as Numan-Jalingo and Mubi-Maiha -Sarau with a distance of 103 and 38km respectively.

    He explained that there were six ongoing federal road projects in the state awarded in 2017, excluding Mubi-Maiha-Sarau road, which was awarded in 2015.

    Abubakar stated that about N90 billion was earmarked for the six road projects.

    He listed the projects to include Cham-Numan on Gombe-Yola federal highway and Numan-Jalingo road with a total of 103 and 46 kilometers respectively, being handled by CGC Nigeria Ltd.

    Others are Yola-Hong-Mubi and Mayo Belwa-Jada-Ganye-Toungo federal highways being handled by AG Vision and Triacta Nigeria limited with a total of 185 and 102  kilometres, respectively.

    Others are the Maraban Mubi-Michika-Madagali and Mubi-Maiha-Sarau highways handled by Ras and Pacific Construction companies.

    He warned that the federal government would no longer tolerate any unnecessary delay from construction firms in the execution of its projects.

    Warri Wolves and Akwa United have been drawn to kick-off the first round of the 2016 NPFL Super 4 Tournament at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.The first leg of the Super 4 tournament will get underway on January 20  and end on the 24th; with the second round to be played at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo, from February 1 to  5.

    In the draws for the first-leg released by the Office of the Chief Operating Officer of the League Management Company, (LMC), NPFL champions, Enyimba FC will take on Nasarawa United for the second fixture of the first day.

    The clubs will observe a rest day on January 21 and return to action again on Friday, with a late kick-off by 5pm when Akwa United tackles Enyimba FC in the first game while Warri Wolves and Nasarawa United file out in a night game from 7pm.

    The LMC’s Chief Operating Officer, Salihu Abubakar spoke about the late fixture.

    He said: “We have scheduled the late kick-off on that Friday to enable Nigerians watch the Super Eagles play their Tunisian counterparts in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda. We consider it as part of the development of the league for players in the NPFL to watch their team mates represent the country in international competitions.

    “Seeing their mates will fire up their own aspiration to up their game and also be in a position to make the national team.”

    On the last day of the tournament, Nasarawa United and Akwa United will play in the first game at 2pm while the closing fixture will be between Enyimba FC and Warri Wolves play the last game of the tournament.

    LMC wants ex-internationals in Premier League

    The League Management Company has introduced an innovative scheme called the “Elite Players Project,” which aims to lure experienced ex-internationals back to the Glo Premier League.

    KickoffNigeria reports that details of the scheme have already been listed in the 2013/14 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Framework and Rules, and were explained to all the 20 clubs in a circular signed by the LMC’s chief operating officer, Salihu Abubakar, on April 20.

    The circular listed the major objective to include the improvement of professionalism in the NPFL by permitting clubs to register a maximum of two ex-international players in addition to the maximum 35 allowed in a season.

    “The LMC hereby brings to the notice of all participating Clubs of the NPFL the commencement of its ‘Elite Players Project’. This project is pursuant to Rules 9.65, 9.67. 13.60.1, 13.60(viii) and 15.21 of the NPFL Framework and Rules 2013/14 season,” the circular read.

    Further explaining its benefits, Abubakar said the scheme is expected to increase the level of experience in the Glo Premier League.

    “It has been designed to increase and deepen players-experience pool of the league, bolster the morale and confidence of younger players in the NPFL, project the image of the league as a welcoming and conducive playing environment for the return of Nigeria’s finest crop of international professional footballers and boost the mass appeal of the league for commercialization.”

    Similar initiatives already exist in South American leagues, as well as in South Africa and the MLS in the United States.

    LMC EXPLAINS KADUNA UNITED VERDICT

    THE League Management Committee has explained the reasons for the decision to hand out bans and fines to Kaduna United. In a statement signed by Salihu Abubakar, and made available to futaa.com, the LMC said that: “Kaduna United is responsible for the conduct of their fans as provided for under Rules 115:16 and is therefore fined N250, 000 as a first offender to serve as an appropriate deterrent to all others” Abubakar wrote.

    The Club was also held liable for access of unauthorized persons to Match Officials and thereby exposing them to danger. The LMC ruled that Kaduna United failed to secure areas leading to the Dressing Rooms thereby allowing unauthorized persons access to match officials, who were then exposed to potential danger.

    “For this; Kaduna United shall pay a fine of N100, 000 and undertake to conduct a Supporters’ Enlightenment seminar to which leaders of their Supporters Club must be invited to before their next Home game. “This seminar must be observed and approved by the LMC. Abubakar informed that Supporters of Kaduna United are being reprimanded for rowdy behaviors after the match and have therefore:

    “Have been put on notice of possible heavier sanctions should this type of behaviour repeat as envisaged by Rules 13:22”
