  • Everton’s Moshiri increases ownership stake in club

Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has increased his ownership stake in the club from 49.9 per cent to 68.6 percent, the Premier League side announced on Tuesday.

Moshiri purchased the additional 18.7 pe rcent through his Blue Heaven Holdings Ltd. and the club said the British-Iranian businessman’s share should rise to 77.2 percent by July 2019.

“Everton today announces that major shareholder Farhad Moshiri has further committed to and increased his shareholding in the club,” the club announced on it websites.

Since taking over in February 2016, Moshiri has underlined his commitment to Everton by delivering on his promise of increased investment in the transfer market.

Everton spent more than 150 million pounds before the start of last season but produced poor results.

The club struggled in the opening stages of the league campaign before finishing eighth under their second manager of the season Sam Allardyce, who took over from Ronald Koeman.

Everton continued their big spending this year with new coach Marco Silva, bringing in forward Richarlison from Watford for a reported 40 million pounds and defender Lucas Digne from Barcelona for 18 million pounds, among other players.

The 63-year-old Moshiri has also stated plans to help the club move into a new ground at Liverpool docks.

Everton have won the English title nine times and the FA Cup on five occasions, albeit not since 1995 when they last lifted a major trophy.

The Merseyside club is seventh on the Premier League table with six points after four matches of the current campaign.

  • Everton appoints Silva as manager

Everton have appointed Portuguese Marco Silva as their manager on a three year-contract, the English Premier League club said on Thursday.

The 40-year-old former Watford and Hull City manager replaced Sam Allardyce, who was sacked after six months in charge at Goodison Park.

Everton finished eighth in the English Premier League under Allardyce, but the supporters were unhappy with the quality of football on display.

Now Silva has a huge task to revive the fortunes of the nine-times English champions who last won the title in 1987.

“I’m really proud to be the new Everton manager,” Silva told Everton’s club website www.evertonfc.com.

“I know the huge history of Everton as a club and what the fans expect. I’m sure with everybody working together I will be ready for this challenge.

“We have a lot of work to do in this next month and it is important to prepare everything in the right way. But there will be even more important work to do from the start of pre-season into the first Premier League match of next season.”

Silva led Olympiakos to a record 43rd Greek league title in 2016, a year after winning the Portuguese Cup with Sporting.

He was unable to secure top-flight survival at Hull.

But six home wins in 18 matches under his guidance kept them alive in the relegation battle until the penultimate game of the 2016-17 season.

Silva was dismissed by Watford in January, with the club blaming Everton for their “unwarranted approach” for him last November.

  • Everton part ways with Sam Allardyce

Everton Football Club can confirm that Sam Allardyce has left his role as manager, the club said in a statement on its website “www.evertonfc.com” on Wednesday.

Denise Barrett-Baxendale, deputy chief officer of the club said: “On behalf of the Chairman, Board of Directors and Moshiri, I would like to thank Sam for the job he has done at Everton over the last seven months.

“Sam was brought in at a challenging time last season to provide us with some stability and we are grateful to him for doing that.

“However, we have made the decision that as part of our longer-term plan, we will be appointing a new manager this summer and will be commencing this process immediately.

“Again, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sam for his work with us over the last few months and wish him well for the future,” the statement said.

Everton ended the season 8th on the Premier League log.

Walcott grabs brace as Everton beat Leicester

Theo Walcott scored twice in his second appearance for Everton as they beat Leicester City 2-1 at home on Wednesday to move further clear of English Premier League relegation danger.

Walcott, who joined Everton from Arsenal for about 20 million pounds in the current transfer window, converted Gylfi Sigurdsson’s low cross from close range after 26 minutes.

He then volleyed home before half-time to double the lead.

Jamie Vardy reduced the arrears from the penalty kick spot deep into the second half.

Dejected Koeman yet to recover from Everton sacking

Former Everton manager Ronald Koeman is yet to get over the disappointment of being sacked by the English Premier League club and has rejected multiple managerial offers since his dismissal.

Koeman was fired in October, after 16 months in charge of the Merseyside club, as significant transfer spending failed to inspire Everton.

The Merseyside club had dropped into the relegation zone after winning just two of their opening nine league games.

“I had started something at Everton and I really wanted to finish it in a good way. This is why my disappointment is bigger than ever before.

“I have to be realistic and I am not moaning about it,” the Dutchman said.

The 54-year-old was touted to take over at several vacant managerial roles at Premier League and European clubs, including West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United, but turned down the offers.

“I need to put those feelings of disappointment away first,’’ Koeman added. “This is the reason why I’ve not taken any of the offers — the offers were there immediately after leaving Everton.

“I had a few offers from the Premier League and a few more elsewhere in Europe.”

Everton have climbed to 10th in the standings under the guidance of interim boss David Unsworth and newly-appointed permanent manager Sam Allardyce.

They travel to fourth-placed Liverpool for the Merseyside derby on Sunday.

Allardyce flags off Everton reign with victory

Sam Allardyce began his reign as Everton manager by overseeing a win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday

Midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson’s third Toffees goal this season fired Allardyce’s side ahead shortly after half time

By the final whistle, the favourite old anthem was booming from the speakers. The players in Blue were sporting beaming smiles, a promising young striker had bolstered his reputation and the man on the touchline was punching the air in delight.

Sam Allardyce will certainly be wondering whether too much had been made about the ills Everton had endured, as his opening day went exactly how he would have wanted with goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and the outstanding Dominic Calvert-Lewin securing a 2-0 win over Huddersfield.

The result means that Everton have now won back-to-back Premier League games for the first time in the 2017-18 season

Back-to-back victories in the space of four days have propelled Everton into the Premier League’s top 10 and they are now, remarkably, just seven points and four places behind Tottenham Hotspur. No wonder Allardyce was rubbing his hands about the task ahead.

Allardyce insists public perception doesn’t bother him but, privately, he would have wanted a flying start to settle the situation further and make Goodison the buoyant arena it should be. What he got in the first 45 minutes, however, was a contest that took tedium to new, head-shaking depths.

Huddersfield showed little ambition to attack, Everton lacked the gumption to impose themselves. The only attack point of note before the interval was a shot from Cuco Martina but Jonas Lossl, Huddersfield’s impressive goalkeeper, was hardly overstretched to deal with it.

Rooney has come to life again and the weight of his ball that allowed Calvert-Lewin to scurry away was glorious, the roll and pace resembling a crown green bowl.

Breaking news: Sam Allardyce resigns as England coach

Sam Allardyce has resigned his dream job as coach of England, after irreconcilable talks with English FA over an allegation that he agreed a payment of 400,000 pounds in exchange for information on how to beat transfer rules.

He was appointed into the three million pounds job on 22 July to succeed Roy Hodgson. He quit just after 67 days.

The English FA confirmed his departure, from a job that offered three million pounds a year, making him the highest paid national coach

In a statement, the FA said on Monday night: ‘The FA can confirm that Sam Allardyce has left his position as England manager.

“Allardyce’s conduct, as reported today, was inappropriate of the England manager. He accepts he made a significant error of judgement and has apologised.

“However, due to the serious nature of his actions, The FA and Allardyce have mutually agreed to terminate his contract with immediate effect.

“This is not a decision that was taken lightly but The FA’s priority is to protect the wider interests of the game and maintain the highest standards of conduct in football.

“The manager of the England men’s senior team is a position which must demonstrate strong leadership and show respect for the integrity of the game at all times.

“Gareth Southgate will take charge of the men’s senior team for the next four matches against Malta, Slovenia, Scotland and Spain whilst The FA begins its search for the new England manager.

“The FA wishes Sam well in the future.”

In a statement released moments ago, Sam Allardyce’s says he is ‘deeply disappointed’ to be leaving his job as England manager.

“Further to recent events, The FA and I have mutually agreed to part company.

“It was a great honour for me to be appointed back in July and I am deeply disappointed at this outcome.

“This afternoon, I met with Greg Clarke and Martin Glenn and offered a sincere and wholehearted apology for my actions.

“Although it was made clear during the recorded conversations that any proposed arrangements would need The FA’s full approval, I recognise I made some comments which have caused embarrassment.

“As part of today’s meeting, I was asked to clarify what I said and the context in which the conversations took place. I have co-operated fully in this regard.

“I also regret my comments with regard to other individuals”

English CEO, Martin Glenn: said, “A very difficult 24 hours. In the light of the media allegations that we’ve seen, we’ve concluded and Sam’s agreed that his behaviour’s been inappropriate and frankly not what is expected of an England manager, discussing a range of issues from potential contraventions of FA rules through to personal comments that frankly just don’t work when you’re the manager of England.”

    Glenn spoke on FATV Tuesday.

  • I’m not interested -Allardyce

    I’m not interested -Allardyce

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce writing in his column for London Evening Standard has reacted to news linking him to the managerial jobs of Nigeria, Sunderland and QPR.

“Big Sam” like the West Ham manager loved to be called, accepted the speculations are rife, because he is out of contract in the summer and so far an extension with West Ham is yet to be signed.

“At the last count I believe I’ve been linked with three jobs this week: Sunderland, QPR and Nigeria!” He wrote in his column.

“The first thing I have to say is that, in case nobody noticed, I still have a job here at West Ham.

“The season is far from over, there are 27 points at stake and it’s time we began helping ourselves to some of them.”

On the links to the Nigeria job Allardyce was however coy resorting to praising Austin Jay Jay Okocha, his former captain at Bolton Wanderers quoting he is the reason he is being linked to the Nigeria job, without categorically stating the reports are false.

SL10.ng reported Jay Jay Okocha met with the West Ham manager advisers in London when he visited with group, of Nigeria ex internationals on a match taking course in the United Kingdom.

“I presume the Nigeria connection, for example, is because Jay Jay Okocha, who played for me at Bolton, and is now involved in football is in that country,” he said.

“For me, Jay Jay is a top man, one of the best I’ve met and Nigeria’s equivalent to David Beckham, in his stature and the esteem he commands in his homeland.

“Here is a small example of the man. He can speak four different languages, he is seen as flamboyant on the field of play but off it, he is very calm, collected, family orientated and quite a religious person.

“He also has had the intelligence to learn valuable lessons from wherever life has taken him, from Nigeria to Germany, Turkey, France and then England.”

  • Allardyce hopeful on Carroll’s form

    Allardyce hopeful on Carroll’s form

Sam Allardyce has backed Andy Carroll to help maintain West Ham’s fine start to the campaign after his brace on Sunday.

Carroll, who only made his comeback from a series of foot injuries in November, scored his first goals since March in the 3-1 win over 10-man Swansea City at Upton Park.

The headed double came either side of the interval and helped West Ham move third in the top flight, having fallen behind to an early Wilfried Bony goal.

Manager Allardyce feels Carroll, brought in for a club-record fee last year, can play a role in keeping the club flying high.

“I hope we can carry on being this consistent,” he said.

“It was massive for Andy Carroll. He is unstoppable when he gets that space. Hopefully he continues to learn that way. It must be close to his best performance for West Ham.

“He’s 100 per cent fit, but there’s a little more to come on his match fitness.”

Allardyce also lauded Carroll’s style of play, with his brace of headed goals underlining his main threat.

“It’s got lost in the game somewhat today,” he added.

“People don’t seem to talk about the technical ability you need to meet a ball that’s in the air at the right time and guide it into the right place.”

  • Allardyce hopeful Carroll can stay injury-free

Allardyce hopeful Carroll can stay injury-free

Sam Allardyce is hopeful that Andy Carroll’s injury problems are behind him after the striker made his first start of the season at Everton.

Carroll has been plagued by fitness setbacks since arriving at West Ham permanently from Liverpool in June last year and underwent ankle surgery this July.

The forward came through 90 minutes in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Goodison Park for the first time since a 1-0 loss at West Brom back in April.

West Ham manager Allardyce turned to Carroll in the absence of Enner Valencia (knee) and Diafra Sakho (back), who have made an impressive start to life at the London club.

Allardyce had not planned to keep Carroll on for the duration on Merseyside, but was left with little option and hopes the 25-year-old will soon be firing on all cylinders as he builds up his match fitness.

“Andy’s fiancee is the owner of a gym and a yoga centre and many times in his striving for fitness he’s spent some time with her,” he told the club’s official website. “She’s helped him not so much get fit, but stay in good condition.

“We didn’t want to play him for 90 minutes as he’s not quite ready for 90 minutes, but because of circumstances it had to be that. He coped with it well and we know he’s going to get better the more match fit he gets.

“With the opportunities of other strikers putting pressures on Andy he’s got to get on top of his game. The way Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho have played this year, they’ve put big pressure on Andy and even Mauro Zarate’s performance as sub was really good.

“Andy doesn’t feel any pressure – he looks after himself and thinks he should play every week and rightly so. At this moment in time he has a little way to go to find his full match fitness. He did very well for us to complete the 90 minutes.

“We hope this final operation will be one of the major reasons for him not having the same injury problems as he’s had over the last couple of years.”
