    Adamu, Mustapha get CAF appointments

     

    The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Samson Adamu  and Abdulhakeem Mustapha as new Director of Competitions and President of Appeals board respectively, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced.

    The NFF made the announcement in its twitter handle @thenff on Friday.

    The appointments were made at the 40th Ordinary General Assembly in Casablanca, Morocco.

    Meanwhile, Amaju Pinnick, NFF President on his twitter handle @pinnickamaju said: “ I wish to announce with pride that Mr Samson Adamu is the new CAF Director of Competitions  and Mr A. U. Mustapha is the new President of the CAF Appeals Board’’.

    Morocco, however, is playing host to 16 teams participating in the 5th African Nations Championship (CHAN), where the Super Eagles is billed to take on Morocco in the finals on Feb. 4

    Adamu selects 10 players for COPA Lagos

    Ten players have been selected at the Brinin Kebbi camp of the Super Sand Eagles for the COPA Lagos Beach Soccer Tournament, opening in Lagos on December 8.

    The Head Coach of the team, Audu Adamu, said in Lagos on Thursday that the new team would represent Nigeria at the CAF Beach Soccer tournament, billed for Egypt next year.

    “These selected players will represent us at the World Cup qualifiers in Egypt. I have so much hope in them and I’m confident that they will deliver.

    “Our performance in COPA Lagos will further reveal to us where we need to work on and improve on,’’ Adamu said.

    The players selected are Paul Danjuma of Kastina United, Arome Isah of Sambrin FC Kogi, Victor Tale (Captain) of Kogi United FC, Emmanuel Oweferia and Taiwo Adams both of Owibeseb FC Ojo.

    Others are Ekujumi Eganosi and Emeka Ogbonna both are of Lead UTD FC in Ojo, Lagos, Abu Azizz of Rangers FC Enugu, Suleiman Muhammed of Ifeanyi Uba FC and Bulangi Umar of Kebbi Beach Soccer.

    The four new players, who made the team are Muhammed, Umar, Eganosi and Ogbonna.

    The Managing Director of Kinetic Sports, Samson Adamu, the organizers of COPA Lagos, said that this year’s event would be huge because of the partnership with the Lagos State Government.

    “We have come a long way and with our partnership with Lagos State, we know things will only get better.

    “Already because of this partnership, one of the most renowned coaches in the world Tehina Rota of Tahiti would help train our home-based coaches,’’ he said.

    The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Steve Ayorinde, said that Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode was partnering with the tournament organizers as part of his commitment to making Lagos a centre of attraction.

    “Tourism, arts and sports are sectors that our amiable governor understands to be the oil sector, we have seen Kinetic Sports manage COPA Lagos and the tournament has all these traits.

    “We believe in the future of COPA Lagos and we are ready to continuously work harder to ensure that we tap into every area this tournament comprises of.

    “Talking about sports, fashion, music, tourism, all these and more are embedded in COPA Lagos and will keep our youths engaged during the festive period,’’ he said.

    The Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports, Deji Tinubu, said that Lagos State was proud to be a part of the success story of Kinetic Sports.

    “Samson is a Nigerian youth that has single-handedly organised a tournament of this magnitude for almost a decade now; because of his consistency he is a success story.

    “I want our youths to challenge themselves, nothing is too small as long as you have passion for it and you have a vision that sees beyond your challenges.’’

    The COPA Lagos tournament is to hold from December 8 to December 10 at Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island, Lagos.

    COPA Lagos 2016 holds December 11

    The 2016 edition of the annual global beach soccer tournament, COPA Lagos, organized by Kinetic Sports will hold on 11th December at Eko Atlantic City.

    Like in previous editions, this year’s edition will feature a combination of sport, music, dance, fashion and celebrity entertainment.

    This year’s event will feature three matches namely, the Club Challenge between Enyimba FC and the Pepsi Football Academy, a Celebrity Match between Super Eagles Ex Internationals and popular Nigerian celebrities. The final game will be between the Nigerian beach soccer team, the Super Sand Eagles and the National beach soccer team of Switzerland, led by Dejan Stankovic, 2016’s beach top soccer scorer in the world, with 63 goals in 28 matches.

    Since its inception in 2011, COPA Lagos has moved from being the first ever international beach soccer event in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa to being a prominent sporting event in the region.

    Speaking at a press conference heralding this year’s edition of the event at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos on Thursday, Samson Adamu, Managing Director of Kinetic Sports, said, “This year’s edition is a one day event because of the upcoming CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations tournament – which also serves as the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup qualifier for Africa. Our dream is to make Copa Lagos bigger than just a beach football tournament, and a major spectacle that will put Nigeria in the global tourism space and promote beach lifestyle in Lagos.”

    He promised that this year’s edition of the tournament will be more exciting than the previous ones as organisers have diversified its scope beyond beach soccer games to include an experiential event for all participants and attendees amidst the multi-faceted activities to be enjoyed. He said the multi-dimensional focus was as a result of Kinetic Sports management’s desire to showcase and support the ever-increasing Nigerian music and entertainment Industry.

    As a prelude to COPA Lagos, Kinetic Sports has also lined up several interesting activities including a CSR event, tagged “Clean the Beach”, which is aimed at conserving the beach, encouraging cleanliness in the environment and preserving marine life. The exercise will involve over 200 people, including football players, staff, sponsors and other volunteers.

    A Beach Soccer Kids Clinic – a training and mentorship programme for kids in Lagos State is also being organised. The initiative will bring together over 100 kids between the ages of 8 and 14 years to the beach to play football with Beach Soccer Stars and Celebrity Players acting as coaches and will teach them the importance of sports for mental development and education. The exercise is in partnership with the Lagos State Sports Commission who will bring the kids from various schools in Lagos State.

    Other activities include a Grand Reception, Media Tour, After Party, Fashion Show, Flash Mob, Ride with Me, After Party and a Concert.

    Organisers of the Copa Lagos Beach Soccer 2013, Kinetic Sports will honour the late Nelson Mandela in a very special way during the championship between December 13-15.

    The C.E.O of the organisers Samson Adamu said Mandela stood for all the ideals of national transformation that Copa Lagos hopes to consistently achieve.

    He began: Yes, history clearly shows that sports can be used to achieve national transformation. Mandela employed a combination of strategies in confronting South Africa’s system of institutionalised racism and sports ranked high on the list. Mandela realised that sports had a transformative and unifying power that could bring about changes in a way that demonstrations and diplomacy could not.

    “Mandela said: ’Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair. It is more powerful than government in breaking down racial barriers.’”

    Samson Adamu then revealed the plans to make the 2013 edition the best so far in all ramifications. His words: “COPA Lagos is what we call sports tourism because it is an event that beautifully combines the game of beach soccer as well as strong elements of tourism including our music, fashion, food and our unique hospitality. It is an international tournament which draws beach soccer teams from Africa, Europe and South America competing for the coveted trophy. The competition enjoys massive international and local press coverage including Super Sport and CNN. Through COPA Lagos we are uniting people and redefining our country’s international image.

    “The event is scheduled for December 13-15, 2013 and is the third edition of this thrilling international beach soccer tournament tagged ‘Africa’s biggest beach soccer event’. For lovers of conventional football, beach soccer is an exhilarating presentation of the world’s favourite game and COPA Lagos is an exciting weekend of non-stop action that caters to both sports enthusiasts and fun seekers. Players from Germany, Senegal, Nigeria and Lebanon, will compete for the championship title. We have the celebrity football match featuring likes of Ali Baba and D’ Banj. There is the fashion show and of course the musical concerts with the likes of Olamide. Finally, as part of giving back to our community, we are organising a ‘Clean the beach’ campaign and also school clinics for kids.     December 2013 will once again see the lifestyle event of the year as organisers of COPA Lagos Beach Soccer, Kinetic Sports Management (KSM); have officially announced the launch of this year’s edition. From the celebrity line up, artist performances to the top-notch fashion show, this year’s entertainment line up this year will surpass all expectations.

    According to Samson Adamu, the CEO of Kinetic Sports: “Our tagline was carefully chosen to ensure people understand that we are committed to bringing an annual lifestyle event –it’s much more than football it’s a lifestyle. It is a promise we have made and we intend to keep it.”

    As the plans for the 3rd edition kick off, extra attention is being paid to the entertainment angle of the event. The organisers are optimistic to bring the best beach Soccer teams to Lagos to compete with defending champions but that football will definitely compete with the huge side attractions. Improvements are being made to the line up of the previous years. And additional details are being added.

    The first two editions saw cheerleading squads from the UK and Spain – Scottish Rockets and Personal Plus, numerous top artists such as WizKid, Burna Boys, Dammy Krane, Ikechuwku, Neato C, Davido, Sauce Kid, Sound Sultan, Skales, Eva, Black Magic, Black Magic, Solid Star. The fashion show has exhibited world-renowned labels such as Eki Orleans, Grey, Clan, Republic of Foreigner, Tebalize, Kola Kudus and Sunny Rose. Not to forget the celebrities and dignitaries that graced the event; David Dein, Ladi Balogun, Aminu Maigari Ali Baba, Stephanie Okereke Linus.

    While still keeping most of the details under wraps, KSM has promised that there will be reoccurring artists and celebrities.
